    The cache recording is something I never knew! You are literally the only person I’ve heard talk about this and I’ve seen like 20 videos on it now at least. Absolutely insane that no one is talking about this

    • @theyrecord
      @theyrecord  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @austinwestbro yes that’s why I made this video. Everyone just says “Buy the fx3, it’s cheaper” and that’s such bad advice because spending a bit more and getting triple the value is the best deal. The Fx9 and some red cameras have cache recording and the fact that the Sony Fx6 has it up to 31 seconds is huge. And also saves my shoots all the time and streamlines my editing flow as everything is a banger.

    Great video! Reasons why I still keep my FX3:
    - I use a Gimbal a lot and it handles the FX3 way better
    - The FX3 can be squeezed in anywhere (behind my computer monitor for example)
    - I'm traveling a lot by train to shoots, so the smaller size matters a lot for me
    Love the FX6 a lot tho, used it for a documentary and the ND-Filter was insanely handy and working with it together with a view finder made it super comfortable to use.

    • @theyrecord

      @madoxbeatbox yes I agree. The fx3 is a great camera. Has its wins for sure over the Fx6. For me personally the ND’s and cache recording are things that I can’t live without.

    I agreed with all of your takes on the two. Great video.
    I own the FX6 and rent the FX3 often. After shooting with both a ton over the past few years, as well as a ton of FX9, I think any FX6 or FX9 owner should own an FX3 also. As a B or C camera, it's great and as a gimbal camera it can''t be beat. I have just about paid off my FX6 with day rates over the past three months and am saving to get an FX3. They are the perfect pair, best of both worlds.

      @@theyrecord I've shot quite a bit with the A7 SIII too as when rental houses are sold out of FX3s, that's what they give us. It's a solid video camera but being in the desert called California where we end up shooting in some serious Summer heat on some shoots, I like having the fan in the FX3, it's a bit of an overheating security blanket. But A7 SIII is a great cam.

    Super good comparison. Honestly to kit out a FX3 to compete with a FX6, it's gonna be about the same cost. Maybe one day I'll upgrade, but the one thing that's nice about the FX3 that I'm loving is how small/big it can be. I can travel with minimal space, or kit it out to film an all day event.

    Cache recording is worth every penny. The R5 II just got this, and after MANY years of having this with PlayStations, I’m blown away by why almost no cameras have this feature???? Even the Nintendo Switch is always recording the last 30 seconds, why don’t all cameras have this option????

    • @theyrecord
      @theyrecord  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @realworldreview yes! Cache recording has been a game changer for me. I didn’t know the canon r5 m2 got it as well. Now it sounds appealing lol. Really appreciate the time and comment. Thank you.

    • @BrunoMassao
      @BrunoMassao 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A lot of bigger professional cameras have the option,although not under "cache recording". Canon Cinema EOS cameras have it under pre-recording, and I think Panasonic Varicam cameras had it under pre-recording as well. RED, ARRI and Phantom cameras do have as well, but under different names.
      I agree that is a game changer and a it should be more common, but I do think the buffering on smaller cameras may be the problem.

    • @theyrecord
      @theyrecord  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @goodrebeledits hey the title is from my sales background. In short, the cheaper option isn’t in the price, it’s in the value you get for every dollar spent.
      And when I had a chance to buy a fx3 or spend more and get a Fx6 I wanted to know what more I get for the money. And it turns out it was a lot. @jonathanpalfrey yes! And I believe 11, 21, 32 second modes. I use it at 31 seconds, and have it mapped to a button on the body to toggle it on and off for things like interviews. That and the Auto ND feature has been a game changer and alone worth every extra penny.

    I own both the FX3 and FX6, I use the FX3 on a gimbal and the FX6 for tripod interviews and hand held (with stabilised lenses) work. They are really quite different cameras. The only downside of the FX6 is the lack of 10bit long GOP 4K.

    • @theyrecord
      @theyrecord  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow what a great set up. That sounds perfect. One thing that you should try with your FX6 for handheld work is a “cinesaddle” just search ‘Cinesaddle Review’. I use one all the time and don’t need stabilized lenses.

  •  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    For me personally, the biggest downside of fx6 is lack of IBIS, which especially when using cine lenses, that don´t have stabilization makes it much harder to do nice handheld shots, but from practical side of thing, i like FX6 because of capability of higher data rate thus higher video quality.

    • @theyrecord
      @theyrecord  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very good point. I’ve never really paid attention to to the ibis, but I usually use a cinesaddle or some form of it. And get smooth shots all the time.

    • @Realist-m9c
      @Realist-m9c 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I find the IBIS on the FX3 to be a bit jarring or it shifts suddenly. A stabilised lens provides a more natural stabilised image than IBIS.

    I have both. I shoot corporate video. I use the FX-6 as an A Cam for my tripod work and still subjects. I use my FX-3 as a B Cam (a second angle) or for moving subjects and gimbal work to shoot B-Roll shots. It works out beautifully having both cameras. If I had to run around a park shooting content I’d use my FX-3 because the ibis is more important to me than the variable internal ND whereas if I needed to shoot in an office all day or corporate event off of a tripod The FX-6 is my workhorse and go to camera.

    Man after wanting one more review to pull the trigger on the FX3, I get recommended this! As a sports videographer, your reasoning made me reconsider!

    • @theyrecord
      @theyrecord  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @quanzki so I will tell you this. From filming sports without the Fx6 I would have to film an entire hockey game and in the edit find the great moments. Now with the Fx6 and cache recording I film the entire game without hitting the record button and only hit record when something incredible happens having the previous 31 seconds recorded to the card. Game changer. Keeps the files to a minimum, in post everything is a banger and I can record in the highest of qualities. That’s to me, is worth every penny and no single sports videographer talks about it.
      I have a video coming on why the Fx6 is the number 1 camera for sports. But I will say this, if you get the fx3. You’ll love it. It’s great. I just think the extra money on the Fx6 brings way more value.

    Solid points, indeed. Can't argue with these points. But reasons to buy the FX3 instead: Weather-sealed (extremely important for outdoor/wildlife filmmaking and general videography, IBIS, better codec flexibility as FX6 has a quirk where you film only in 8bit in some codecs, better on the gimbal, and has 3.5mm input jack so it's not 100% reliant on the handle like the FX6.

    • @theyrecord
      @theyrecord  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @larryeber thank you for the kind comment. Really made my day. To be honest, the Fx6 kicked the c70’s but in almost every single area. Better NDs. Better ergonomics. Full XLRs. Better frame rates. Cache recording on the fx6 is king. But the c70 has 2 areas it does really well. The dual gain output sensor is great paired with a speed booster and the C70 can do internal 12 bit colour raw.
      I left Sony for the c70 because of those 2 things. I really wanted to film everything in 12 bit raw and with Sony you can only do that trough a external recorder and in ProRes Raw, but DaVinci doesn’t play well with ProRes Raw and converting all the files was too long of a workflow so I got the c70.
      C70 does those 2 things really well. I don’t have the c70 anymore because I swapped it for the Ronin 4D that does 12bit ProRes 4444 in 6k. But I have pre ordered the c80 that looks great.
      Overall Sony’s have been the most reliable cameras I’ve ever had and they are great for any business. I’ve made the most money using Sony cameras for their reliability. I still have 2 Sony A7 iv’s as well. For sticks, interviews and podcasts.

      @austinwestbro I’m putting together a video on why the FX6 is the best camera for sports (nobody ever says that but I believe it is) but I’ll give you a bit of a spoiler. So when I filmed hockey games before the Fx6. I would film everything hoping a highlight hits and the editing downloads and uploads and editing process was a nightmare. Now, thanks to the Fx6 I use cache recording of 31 seconds. I film everything as if I’m recording but I’m not, and when a highlight happens I hit record and have the previous 31 seconds. How cool is that! And the editing is so easy as everything is a banger.
      There’s a lot more to it for sports, but that’s the main one for hockey.

    Everything you've listed I agree with, but I have to disagree that it's cheaper. The cost of support gear goes up quite a lot.
    If you're running a gimbal for any amount of time, you'll want a EasyRig with a Serene arm. Those cost a pretty penny.
    Mounting and grip becomes a bit more of a hassle.

    You are not using VN in the shots that you show in this video. All of those are in-door sports. The FX3 also has the base 12,800 ISO which come into play with that in-door hockey action. The FX3 also has better AF and IBIS which is amazing. So I can get 30% more shots compared to what you get with the FX6 so you aren't saving money at all because you can't get the shots that I can get with the FX3. You also can't argue with this point.

    Auto ND? Don’t need it - I shoot in studio and control all the lighting (and I have a set of Nisi on the rare occasions where I need ‘em)
    Cache? Nope - shoot off scripts so my recording work is trimmed as I write and/or rehearse - so no shoot and hope!
    Form factor? Once rigged up my FX3 only a Sony expert could tell what’s “inside” and IF anyone cares to ask “The camera they shot “The Creator” on and the Clients won’t care (and those who might… we’ll, no reason to compete with FX6ers)
    Top Handle ? Rarely shoot handheld but - when I do - it’s good to have my onboard mic
    Battery? Shoot with V-Mount
    Monitor? I have a Ninja for each FX3 (and I can shoot ProRes RAW in a pinch IF the Client wants that!)
    Sony Slog3 and Cineton are good enough for me!
    Finally, the FX6 probable has more ‘punch’ of a sensor but I haven’t seen any appreciable difference shooting 4K 10 bit for my target output.
    FX3 a camera so nice I purchased it twice!
    I stand corrected: the FX3 has the “punchier” sensor while FX6 is “smoother” - even though they are the same sensor (size) - but I want “punchier” so another win for me! 😉

      This video here isn’t me praising the Fx6 (although it’s a great camera). It’s simply stating it’s cheaper than the fx3 because of all the extra value you get for the extra money.
      I still have a Fx6 because of how great the camera is and shoot sports on it all the time because of the cache recording.

      @Awardtour93 so that’s why in my video I said nobody ever complained, although I have heard people that pay a lot complained to a number of people I know about better cameras for the job. But just because someone complains doesn’t mean they are super impressed either.
