Is the 2023 Nissan Versa SR a BETTER sedan VALUE than a Toyota Corolla LE?

  • Small sedans are becoming harder and harder to find but Nissan decided to continue with their Versa and make some changes. On the outside you will notice a new color, headlights, grill and front fascia and wheels. On the inside there is two-tone cloth interior, 8in infotainment screen and partial digital gauge cluster. Under the hood is a 1.6L mated to an inline-4. Is the 2023 Nissan Versa SR a BETTER sedan VALUE than a Toyota Corolla LE?

I took delivery of my 2023 Nissan Versa S with the 5 speed manual transmission back in January. Since I turned 18 years old I started building my credit for 1 year, and now at 19 years I was able to buy my first new car at a great interest rate. The knowledge of only 2 years working in the car industry allowed me to get a great deal on it as well. It is my first manual car, and I have had a lot of fun driving it for the past 6 months, and with 40+ mpg I cannot complain. Overall I would recommend this car to any young person on a budget, or really anyone for that matter.

Wish my step son took this option.. instead he bought a 2018 mazda 3 with almost 90k miles for around 18k after interest on his loan that he also had to have co-signed with his mom... terrible. I commend you for a very wise decision and to get the best value for your money.

    • @sawyermartin4434

@Lemonhead8890 Interest on any normal auto loan is not due up front. Auto loans are simple interest loans, meaning that interest is calculated daily based on the remaining principle balance. You said that he "paid" $18,000 "including interest" when he bought the car. That does not make sense.

    • @Lemonhead8890

I did have one of these as a rental little while ago and absolutely loved it. It is smooth, spacious and fun to drive. It lacks power a little bit but the fuel economy was great. We dove to Tahoe and it did pretty well on hilly roads and very comfortable. I love the look of it, very modern and wouldn't mind having one as a run around vehicle. And more importantly you can not beat that price!!

If you don’t want a hybrid and you commute long distance to work and are on some sort of budget then this Versa is for you!! I been commuting my entire life and the cycle of cars is unreal. Because of this going cheap with style is the best option. It loses value and within a few years depending on how you treat them they become junk and they go to the car cemetery. Save your coins people! Insurances love hybrids because of the cost of parts. Just stick to the basics and bills will be cheap owning a car like this.

I've heard the horror stories of the CVT now for over five years. However, I did the research and the newer ones 2019 and later have many improvements and are no longer the nightmares they were before. A CVT is cheap and efficient; that is why they are used and at this price point you can't avoid them. I bought one for my 17 year old daughter and was blown away by the interior and trunk space; their packaging designers are masters. Comfy seats, advanced driver assistance tech, heated front seats, CarPlay, and the stereo sounds far better than it has any right to at $21K. Done.

I'd consider this vehicle but good luck finding any on a lot. I did a search on Autotrader and it came up with 1 available within 250km of me in Ontario. Also, the manufacturer's recommended price is pipe dream. Even if you can find a new car like this, or an Elantra/Forte the dealerships are jacking the prices 3 if you're lucky but more like 5 grand and up above the manufacturer's price because they can. They aren't honoring agreed upon prices when you order a car either because they have a waitlist of people willing to pay more. It's a nightmare right now to find anything in this category or compact.

I just watched a review from the versa they sell here in Brazil. The guy said factory had some problems and for that reason they were producing less vehicles. Yes, here's in Brazil the versa was also out of stock pretty much. The top of the line version here is called "Exclusive" and goes for almost 26k. The base version is 21k (there's no manual version here). The base Corolla here is 29k, by the way.

I have a 2024 S manual . Bought it today 17,410 out the door . Will it hold up as well as a 2024 base Corolla? With careful maintenance I think the annual cost of ownership over seven to ten years will be close .

I love the Versa SR. It irks me a bit that Nissan Canada offers more options for the Versa than here in USA (e.g., fog lights that you mentioned). You were correct to start the review off by reminding the viewers to keep the oranges to oranges comparison in mind.
