What a gent! When a lot of people would have spent their time kicking back, he has taken the time to share his knowledge. Kudos sir!

dont do you first ironman in salt water if you are not used to rough open water swimming (Train open water as much as possible, although I swim 4km every day, open water in neoprene is still always "frightening" for me). Train eating&drinking as much nutrition as possible on the bike. Run three times a week, minimum one long run (>1h30). Get used to looonnnngggg training session, not so much HIIT. (Relax, have fun and enjoy the show)

Don’t eat and drink too much make you go to the toilet?

Great tips! I'm starting my prep for my first 70.3 this October.
Did you go with a personal coach or did you leverage a general training plan for your first Ironman? I'm kind of stuck between the two, mainly for cost reasons.

Awesome! I got a coach, which I highly recommend. You should be fine following a general training plan, but you will unlock a lot more potential with a triathlon coach.

Thanks a lot for the tips ! How often did you do long run sessions (>1h15) during your 70.3 prep ?

I do a long run once a week - with a slow increase in km (2-3 km) every week.

    It's a fun distance

What was your regular brick distance for half iron training

I would do a short run (5-10 km) after a long bike ride (2hrs) once a week. Just to get a feeling of what it's like to run on tired legs.

I have my first one coming up this September! How long was your training period leading up to race day?

Hi Ian! My traning started about 6 months before the Ironman. I started with small and quick sessions and slowly increased the volume as the Ironman was getting closer.

@@Treningsprat thanks for the reply! That’s about what I was thinking of doing. Being in September it gives me a good summer to increase volume. Great video!
