7 Things I Did To Nail My Dream 70.3 Triathlon Race

  • These were the seven things I did for my triathlon training plan that allowed my to race a 4:36 half-Ironman distance race with roughly 8:30hrs average training each week. The things I focused on for the creation of my 70.3 triathlon training program were: the long ride, hill running, Vo2 Max or HIIT Intervals, and a properly designed swim training program.

Triathlon Taren is slowly becoming a tech youtuber, RGB all the way!!! Actually though, i would like to see a video of videos about the tech you use to train with. i log so many metrics, but sometimes don't know what to do with it.

I thought for sure this would be your Altantic City race. My fond memory of that race was us passing each other on the run. You were heading home around the 18 km point (heading out onto the 2nd pier), and I was (sadly) about 12 km into my run. When we passed, I remember thinking how strong you were looking and that your pace was very solid. It was a feel good moment to see a friend nailing the run and knowing you'd have a strong finish, so it put some energy back into me for the rest of my race. Loved that day, a real "feel good" race, a PB, all good things. And I have the training program to thank for it!

Great video as always, lowered my stress about the amount of hours I do in a week. I feel like too many people brag of 20+ hours of training a week!

Love these video's The tip in the slow to go fast vid about running on hills I'm definitely using to sharpen up when I'm back after surgery next week. Already selected a nice hill a nice warmup distance away, can't wait to get back out there!

New lighting setup is nice - well done. Only critique is the light coming though your windows becomes distracting since it's back lighting you in a different temp range.
I did want to say I feel like your recent before/after comments on your health are exactly that. You've been showing that to be healthy you have to be healthy all over. And some times the healthy thing is taking it easy for a week/month/season/year.

Interesting video thanks. Although surely long time trial efforts on the bike is what gets you ready for a hard iron man effort - I still see a place for a hard 3 hour plus ride as long as you prioritise recovery.

Great job and video. Question do you have a video about swim caps if not which one do you recommend and do you have a link

    The new lighting looks good!
On the schedule you displayed, it showed a 2-hour long ride on Saturday, but as you spoke about it, you said you were riding 4+ hours. It's not clear if that's while you were following that schedule or at a different time in the season. Can you clarify?

Love your videos, hoping for my first triathlon which because of the pandemic is a 70.3, all the smaller races I was going to do was cancelled..So nervous to say the least. But, seeing this video, I could swim 4-5 times per week, I have a pool close to me, is there a big benefit to that vs swimming what I see on a lot of websites, 3 times per week? Like say I add 2x30 minutes the extra two days with either drills or "just" swimming.

@triathlontaren team trainiac looks amazing. Is it just for triathlons as stupid as it sounds or do you do marathon training on the website. I've just started running.

Tried to sign up for a profile on your website Taren but on the cc part it keeps saying there is an error and for me to try again. Its using my normal method of payment for all my internet purchases so just curious if you have any tips/hints for me to get it to work. Thanks!
