Pretty reasonable first effort mate. You swam solidly, biked really well, and just had a shite time on the run. Importantly, you made the mistakes that are supposed to be made first time - learning your body’s fuel response, too exuberant on the bike, and cumulative fatigue, but those are everyone’s story… Simply by having this first one under your belt, the next one will organically see 5 mins off the swim, easier time with the fuelling, slightly faster trans, another solid bike, and sub-2 on the run, and before you know it you’re into the mid-5 hour total, which is spot on.
I was there, too! Congratulations for both of us. We made the same time on the swim but on the bike.... I came to europe on May and decided to do this IM (first IM i did and no other competition done before, not even a half marathon). I trained without my bike since I had to leave it at Argentina so I only trained with a gym static bike.. it took my 3:59 hours just to do the bike, it was embarrasing. Ended up finishin in 7:20 hours but it is what it is. Next time will be much better. Everything you said about the race and the place is on point, amazing review!
Not a bad result mate, just finishing is half the battle. Triathlon is 4 disciplines- swim, bike, run, nutrition. You’ve got to train for them all. Did IM Wales last year. 13 hours at 51. Hardest thing I’ve ever done. Planning on IM Mallorca 70.3 and IM Barcelona next year. Keep at it. Great sport 💪
Great job Dan, love the honesty of your approach and demonstrating that it’s ok for your race not to be prefect , but enjoy the process and experience. Top work mate Tom
Love this stuff brother! Having just completed my first 70.3 yesterday in Santa Cruz CA, this video hits close to home. Keep cracking on, looking forward to what’s to come!
Hi, I saw you in the swim-warm up area. Congratulaion! It was also my first 70.3. I got similar problems like you. My stomach started hurting after the first km of running. Swim was fine (39 min), biking also (3:23), but running 😥 (2:37). Overall 6:52. It's okay, but I try to do it better next time, and there will be a next time😁
For somebody that’s about to take part in their first Triathlon, this information is invaluable. The distance is different, however everything else is relatable. Cracking vid. 💪
bro I had such a similar first ever ironman 70.3. Had a 1:48:00 hm pb did 2:20 on the day on a hilly course, ugh so suffering. But the feeling in the end! Can't beat it.
Impressive performance, especially the bike. I just finished Ironman Knokke-Heist yesterday and already looking for a next challenge, Zell Am See is at the top of my list.
Nice one Dan. Just completed my first sprint tri in Ellesmere Shropshire. 100% can’t tell you how much difference brick training is compared to the real thing. Nothing compares to it! Looks like I’m watching the right videos though If I’m wanting to progress💪🏼 keep it up!
It was a great Event, I was there too for my first middle distance. Had the same feeling as you in the swim, it was a new experience when you are used to the normal pool training. Congrats from Germany!
All so true mate, great video. I did Tallinn and thought I would do the run in 1.45, fair to say that didn't happen. Loved the bike, the swim was absolutely traumatic though. Venice Jesolo next, god knows why 😂
Amazing video! It's so great that you share your love for water. Swimming is such an amazing sport and it's lovely to see you enjoy it, keep going with these great videos. If it doesn't bother you, I'd like to give you a suggestion, a tip for the next videos: Basically, you could try inserting some comic and funny stuff... to give everyone a pinch of humor that, in the world of swimming, can never be missing. Now, I don't think much of it, but the first thing I could think of in your sport might be peeing in the water. Once, my uncle, who is a scuba diver, peed in his wetsuit during a long diving session and that moment was absolutely funny, he even wrote "I’m peeing" on a waterproof notebook during the session. He has always been telling me that there are 2 types of divers and swimmers: those who pee in the water and those who lie. I know it may sound strange as a request but, in my opinion, these are moments of happiness and carefree that always make everyone smile. I hope you like the idea and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Don't worry I pulled my hamstring from a bad bike fit in my 70.3 and only trained 16 weeks. Only had 2/4 fuel bottles on the bike and all of that affected my run by an hour. Got a 5:57 finish. Good job either way.
Just when I thought I’ve watched every bit of Ironman content on TH-cam I watched your film and i really appreciate the cinematic filming and editing. Well done. What’s the new camera and filming mode?
Congrats man! I have my first one in 3 days and absolutely bricking it. Very similar expected 'ability' to you but also expecting a severe humbling. Any idea on your Average Watts compared to FTP?
@@Daaaanjj Yeah it is it's in Pennington flash reservoir in Leigh. It's s a fast course with great support and right on the doorstep. You would destroy the bike leg.
Big congrats on your first 70.3! I’m looking to do my first next year and was keen to do this one! Boring question, but how did you find getting there with your bike? Did you rent a car?
Need you to cut together a back to back of “it was the best ride I’ve ever had in my life” & “by far the worst run of my life” 😂 Amazing vid bro and smashing effort 👊👊
its all about the ability to run in the right zones for the right amount of time. that wasnt really possible after your great bike ride ;-) but hey you did it! well done!! but dont try that with a full distance.
Yeah the footage, editing and cinematography of this is TOPP
hero, appreciate it

There's no more IM Barcelona unfortunately (I wanted to do that one, too) but you could you the Valencia one. I'm planning on doing that one.
Well done brother 💪🏼
Wes Anderson eat your heart out. Cracking vid!

Great job Dan, love the honesty of your approach and demonstrating that it’s ok for your race not to be prefect , but enjoy the process and experience.

Well done mate great effort. You should come do one in Bolton not far away then and you'll get a massive PB

What’s that van rizz rcr helmet like?
Invest in some aero bars man, cheapest upgrade with the biggest impact ;)
🙌🙌🙌
Well done Mathe 🚀💪🏼 how many gramms of carbs per Hour did you have on The bike😅
thanks mate. Aimed for about 80g an hour but think I ended up taking on more (too much for me to handle) in the end haha. How about you?
@@Daaaanjj In the end 480g during the whole race so roughly 100g/h
