This might sound crazy but Dallas made me LOVE Zuko after watching this episode. I’ve always liked him in ATLA especially in book 3, but I love him in this.
There we go, the best rated and most people's favorite episode. They did alot things right in this one including expending the lore and Dallas Liu performance was next level. ❤
Yeah, I really noticed that about Zuko’s actor from the very first episode. He’s what I like to call a “face actor” and he’s fantastic at it. What I mean by that, is the micro-expressions and subtle movements and twitches that give real depth to reality, and it’s so often missing even with some of the best actors out there. Robin Williams was another one of those face actors, and it’s why he always came across as so genuine and real in every role he played.
The way ozai broke those chains. I love that iroh stepped up and said hold on. Zuko didn’t get up in the cartoon and at least dogged here out up a good block even through some hands I give them credit
Oh snap zuko and aang having a heart to heart right there back. They didn’t do this talking at this point in the story. What sucks is the last time zuko showed comparison he got burned and scarred.
This was definitely my favourite episode. I was sceptical when they had Zuko fight in the agni kai instead of refusing, but having thought about it a couple of days I actually don't mind too much. Also, the change with the 41st division was a great addition.
That statute is mother of faces in comic she's the one zuko mom went to change her face and wipe her memory after leaving. She gave new face to people and wip their memories but i am surprised she's koh mom never new that.
By far the best episode, the most emotionally taxing, most well written, and the one that focuses on character building for Aang, by proxy, and effective at doing it.
Funfact: The mother of faces spirit is canon. It comes in book 4 of ATLA which was unaired in anime... there's a arc where zuko searches for his mother.... turns out after she left the palace (she was exiled for helping ozai poison the firelord azulon) she went to meet her ex (she had a lover before she was brought to palace to marry the firelord) and they together went to the mother of faces who's mother of koh and has the ability to give new face and identity to people, but it consumes their past memories. She then starts a new life and has a daughter with her lover (zuko's not crazy, kind step sister).
This was by leagues my favorite episode out of the bunch. Dallas is absolutely wrecking my tear ducts with his Zuko portrayal. If we never get anything else from the live action, I will always hold his performance here as the best thing we got from it. PS: If you've never read the comics, you should. They actually pulled the Mother of Faces from The Search.
They did a pretty good job here. "The Blue Spirit" and "The Storm" are two of the best episodes from Book 1 of ATLA, so all the beats are there. And I don't think we missed too much by combining some things. As cool as June and Nala are, the Bato episode is pretty inconsequential. So having her be the one to find him, works fine. The scene with the 41st bowing to Zuko might be the most powerful scene in this series, though it seemed a little rushed. I think they were trying to play it off as Iroh was telling Jee the story of what happened to Zuko throughout the episode, but that didn't really come across much, until Jee went "The 41st? but *we're* the 41st."
Your reactions are so beautifully pure, I'm crying all over again with the two of you watching it again. If you put on the subtitles, and do a re-watch later, there's some fairly inaudible dialogue that happens in the background of a few episodes that refers to storylines in episodes of the cartoon that didn't make it to the live series. It's a lovely little secret kind of tip of the hat to those of us who adore the source material. I love it.
In the eyes of Ozai, Zuko's sense of "compassion" will result to the end of the fire nation. The 100yrs of tyranny has caused vengeance running down generations of their enemies, hence every successive firelord necessity to ruthlessness. The moment you take your foot off the tiger's neck, you give chance to attack your ( citizens, territories, resources or allies) Zuko's incapacity to that level of cruelty, unlike Azula is very concerning, to him.

I really appreciated hearing about Jaby's background in casting - it helps me understand your analysis more and it put words to how I felt about Gordon's acting, he's doing a good job and he really got better the deeper into the season we go. And you're both right, his best moments are when he's quietly observing, this episode when he's being dragged away in the cart, and he looks back to Zuko and Iroh really tugged at my heart. And he works best with Gyatso and Zuko's actors so far for me, maybe it's a comfort thing or something with those two. Overall, ep6 is my fave episode, so much depth and so much packed into the run time but it didn't feel stuffed the way some of the earlier episodes did. And I must say, I actually appreciated time away from the water siblings - those two are fine and I do enjoy them but I think the real heart of this show is Aang, Zuko, Gyatso and Iroh, and these two episodes (5-6) show us why.
Dang Jaby, that laugh of yours is amazing. I got a flashback from the first time I saw Michael Jackson's "Thriller" music video and heard Vincent Price's laugh. You have that same iconic level to yours. If you haven't started doing voice acting you really should. I think you and Achara will be excellent voice actors. I enjoyed seeing Aang and Zuko teamed up. If Zuko was able to use his powers in combination with Aang they would be a problem. I've thought of a few power combos that would be so badass for them. Achara's right about how they've hit you in the feeling seen episode 4. Episode 4, 5 and 6 got me at different levels, Basically, episodes 4 and 6 came closest to getting tears because of the Zuko and Iroh stories. However, I didn't get actual tears until I saw the reaction when Achara or both of you cried. I get hit harder when other people cry especially when I see women cry since I was a kid. I had to work on that because there are women that are not nice who will use that against you. This show keeps getting better and better for me. I'm definitely going to be watching Season 2 and 3 if Netflix continues making the show. They'd have to start really messing up on the show to change that. The theme of the episode about everyone wearing masks in their life to protect themselves emotionally is true. I know that I tend to use comedy to deal with a lot of messed up stuff in my life. When things tend to suck or I'm just not happy I prefer to do things to make myself feel better and making myself laugh or others laugh always works for me. Personally, the Fire Nation isn't my favorite, but they're interesting. The nation I like is the Airbenders, but they were killed off. I'd love to see a spin-off Season 1 called "Nomads: Chronicles of the Airbenders" that tells about the Airbenders before Aang was born. Maybe even about the previous Airbender Avatar. Most likely won't happen, but I can dream. This show keeps getting better and better for me. I'm definitely going to be watching Season 2 and 3 if Netflix continues making the show. They'd have to start really messing up on the show to change that. Enjoyed the reaction 👍👍✌ out.
Also, imagine how heart breaking it would be, when Zuko betrays uncle at the crossroads in the crystal mines since we already starting to like him more
Shame they swapped out Avatar Roku's scene at the temple for Avatar Kyoshi. Though they could have still shown her badassery liberating her people from the mainland. Splitting the continent and pushing it out to start a new land against a tyrant would have made for an awesome live action scene a better realization of power.
This LA was good. People should stop hating the show just because they didn't see it how they wanted it to be. Coz if they do, it will definitely affect the rating which determines whether there'll be another season or not. Funny thing is, they will also be the ones who will complaint if the show didn't get another season.
Roku making Aang hop on one leg is as out of character if Kyoshi, Kuruk or Yangchen made him do it too. He is the Avatar whose actions (or lack of) led directly into the conflict of this show. He should be showing regret that this is the Avatar who is only a kid has to shoulder this burden. He is the Avatar who should be raising the stakes.
Avatar Roku was the one who interacted with Sozin the guy they decided to show in the first fifteen minutes of the live-action version. Roku is finally meeting the Avatar who has to shoulder his burden for the first time in over 100 years and sees that it is only a kid. He should feel a huge pit in his stomach the moment he saw Aang.
This show is doing a lot of things wrong, but it's doing some things right. The 41st change is a great idea. And there's nothing stopping it from being canon in the real show as well.
seeing Overrr Reacting 😭 I remembered a viral meme in which a girl standing on a stage gives a smile in between when she is crying. But her acting of crying looked real.
Some people don't like the casting at all, I think it's good the only pick I don't like is Azula's actress, I don't think she's bad she's just not threatening in the slightest imo
Yall have to remember azula is playing the good school girl. Over achiver in season 1. I dont even remember azula much in season 1 animated version. So yall are expecting too much from her rn. In season 2 she starts going crazy and become a sociopath. And in season 3 she completely looses her mind.
Now that I think about it. Zuko's mom haven't been cast in season 1. So season 2 is getting me hyped up for how they'll break it down. Plus it's OK for me that Ang grows older each season. I feel like season 2 will focus on Ang's training with water and earth bending. Plus don't tear bend CINEPALS or you'll make me tear bend. I NEED MEAT!!!
I waited so long for this live action to come to netflix! I will say, as an og fan of the animated series I did'nt quite enjoy my binge. I really wanted too but I didn’t, idk maybe after a second watch I might enjoy it more... I think they wrote out a handful of core character narratives that come into play later down the line which is what made the original so great! Because of that I think the LA is a 6/10 for me, and not because of the visuals, the visuals are great! At the end of it all, it all comes down to how it was written. 6/10
@@hassansulaiman3848I did enjoy some things. The action Choreography was really good and the visuals. I liked the portrayal of zuko too but that’s it. They did a lot of exposition dumping and thats just bad writing. Hey, it’s like Sokka said… “at least the effects were decent…”

1 of the few things I can say the Netflix series did better than the original Nickelodeon series was expanding upon Ozai & Iroh's relationship as brothers. In the original series they never are on screen together, but here there are multiple times they interact with each other, which adds more to their backstories & character developments. Also, having the 41st Division be Zuko's crew was a nice detail that I'm glad they included.

Enjoyed the reaction 👍👍✌ out.
An accurate blue spirit mask I like it!!!! Not that scary ass shit from the movie
Ikr in that movie it was so ugly
Daniel Kim is such a beast playing Ozai. Unlike that Indian King actor from Syhamalan movie
He’s not even Indian, he’s from New Zealand 😭
🤣🤣🤣
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩The way you guys are zooming through these episodes.
I love this episode
Best episode imo.
Also, imagine how heart breaking it would be, when Zuko betrays uncle at the crossroads in the crystal mines since we already starting to like him more
We feel you, Achara!
I absolutely love this series your reactions are fantastic the changes are great and make so much sense absolutely incredible series 😊❤🎉
Idk if its just me, but after seeing dallas with longer hair, i feel like he would play a good liu kang
This LA was good. People should stop hating the show just because they didn't see it how they wanted it to be. Coz if they do, it will definitely affect the rating which determines whether there'll be another season or not.
Funny thing is, they will also be the ones who will complaint if the show didn't get another season.
The 41st crew change is WAY better than the shows version
Blue spirit baby!!!!
We didnt get the mother of faces until the comics
Avatar Kuruk was the one who defeated koi for taking his wifes face
It never made sense as to how Zuko's own crew didn't know why he got the scar yet some random Earth Kingdom guy in Zuko Alone did.
Btw that mother of faces Roku gave to Aang is canon in the comics
This show is great why is every other youtube channel hating on it baffles me...
It's so validating to know I'm not the only one who's ugly cried through this entire season lol
I feel like they mixed young pre Avatar title Roku with old fully realized Avatar Roku. It felt out of place in that moment.
Did general Zhao so dirty😂😂
How 😂
Monk Gyatso is a heartbender
This show is doing a lot of things wrong, but it's doing some things right. The 41st change is a great idea. And there's nothing stopping it from being canon in the real show as well.
You’re pushing it… its great
seeing Overrr Reacting 😭
I remembered a viral meme in which a girl standing on a stage gives a smile in between when she is crying. But her acting of crying looked real.
Well when they were filming the first season they were very young and I feel like they are new to acting
Some people don't like the casting at all, I think it's good the only pick I don't like is Azula's actress, I don't think she's bad she's just not threatening in the slightest imo
I feel you on that. I think she’s a good actress as well but didn’t make sense to me for this role. But that’s based purely on bias.
Yall have to remember azula is playing the good school girl. Over achiver in season 1. I dont even remember azula much in season 1 animated version. So yall are expecting too much from her rn. In season 2 she starts going crazy and become a sociopath. And in season 3 she completely looses her mind.
I have the same pet peeve about doors not closing in movies. Also, not closing draperies in rooms when either going to have sex or are in hiding.
That ending, ouch 😢
Now that I think about it. Zuko's mom haven't been cast in season 1. So season 2 is getting me hyped up for how they'll break it down. Plus it's OK for me that Ang grows older each season. I feel like season 2 will focus on Ang's training with water and earth bending. Plus don't tear bend CINEPALS or you'll make me tear bend. I NEED MEAT!!!
AAwwww Achara is such a SWEET SOUL. Another banger ep so far all of them have been at least GOOD to Great!
So did u enjoy some parts and what parts did u not enjoy
@@hassansulaiman3848I did enjoy some things. The action Choreography was really good and the visuals. I liked the portrayal of zuko too but that’s it. They did a lot of exposition dumping and thats just bad writing. Hey, it’s like Sokka said… “at least the effects were decent…”
@@temtoonnefertem4131 I mean u can just stick with the original show
@@temtoonnefertem4131 That's not even close to bad writing, for you it might come across as such, because you already know the world, this show is meant for og fans and new people. Exposition is necessary
@@sheogorath979 exposition can be necessary at times but to much is just lazy writing in my opinion. Ever heard of show don’t tell, showing something rather than explaining it has a greater affect on the story
This show is doing “the show” justice.
They did outstanding job making zuko's backstory we feel bad for him this time around, Achara's heart is not ready for it someone will like to give Achara a hug 🫂🌹😘
I cried like 10 times in this ep. Its crazy
The mother of faces - was responsible for changing zukos' moms face and erasing her memory after she was exhiled by Ozai. Thats the reason why she never went back to find her kids. Zuko eventually finds his mom and her memory and her original face is restored.
