If you have the money, buy the Q3 and don't think about any other compact camera. If you don't have the money, buy the x100VI and think about the Q3 until you have the money for it. Currently I don't have to think about any other camera.
Hm…not as easy as you made it to be, Q3 not compact at all for one and also Fuji’s film emulation is nice if one just shoots JPEGs and post on online. But if one doesn’t care about the size and wants even more resolution to play with then yes, I would go for the Q.
@@Phat-rj3jo Yes, that's right, I didn't want to say with the post that the X100VI is a bad camera and that there are many people who prefer the Fucji precisely because of its even more compact size and the film simulations. thanks so much - that was exactly what I was looking for. As an owner of the X100V I'm always running back and forth upgrading to Q3 or X100VI. Problem with Lightroom and the Fuji files is always the sharpness. Therefore I've converted the Fuji files with DXO pure raw 4 to DNG and now you could absolutely find the sharpness on one level or even better with the Fuji file. If you convert both Leica and Fuji via DXO Leica is again a tack sharper but not as much as before. give it a try with the test version . For me it's now to upgrade to X100VI whenever I'll get one... in the meantime I'm very happy with my X100V
I have both X100V and Q3… Q3 is used for about 95% of time… it’s not the sharpness induced by Lightroom… the unique thing about Leica is its sharp and legendary lens. Sorry but Fuji is not even close…
I have both q2 and x100vi - q2 perfect point and shoot vs. x100vi point pray and shoot. Thanks for putting in the time to show this. This confirms my findings too.
I have the same setup and Fuji does have a hit or miss issue with AF at times. But it’s only with portrait shots. Which would seem to be the easiest for the camera??
@@AshBashSneakers Same here. I almost thought my Fuji VI had a broken lens in a GOOD way. Excellent comparison and review. Much appreciate sharing the files for comparison. Looking at the urban street crossing view, the detail and the real life presentation of the Leica Q3 is almost mindblowing, whereas the Fujifilm X100VI looks somewhat bland in comparison, although the Fujifilm did well. However, I notice the file size of the Leica DNG is almost twice (!) that of the RAF-file from the X100VI. I was fortunate to get my Fujifilm X100VI from the first batch of deliveries, and confess to being a "pixel peeper" and seriously consider selling the Fujifilm and save up for buying the Leica Q3. My favorite combo would be a Ricoh GRIIIx for ultimate portability paired with the Leica Q3. Although I have sold my Ricoh GRIIIx, I still miss it as the pictures were super sharp. The camera was however lacking in low light for my type of photography. Cheers and once again, cudos for your great review.
Q3 is a great camera and should really beat this fuji anyway. 2 things to consider: Leica service/repair is beyond bad in US, everything has to go to Germany, if something goes wrong, you wont have a camera for 2-3 months, I dont understand why they cant have a repair shop in the US (they have several stores?) also: Fuji raw files are just better in capture 1, color, noise and especially detail. this has been an ongoing story and adobe has come a long way but Capture 1 is still better...for Fuji files!
Hey Alex good video. I know that takes a ton of time to put these together. I did notice that many of the 100VI photos that where the softest are at F2. I do not think that 23mm lens resolves the 40MP all the way. I shoot an xt-5 and I have a few lenses that have this soft glow to them that others do not. However on my XT3 they have better clarity, contrast and dare I say sharpness. It might be a closer comparison all the way through if you left them both on f2.8. However at that point it makes the Q3 that much more attractive being just as sharp at 1.7 as the VI is at 2.8. I would love to get a Q3 just to try side by side with my XT-5 and 18mm f1.4 I think that would be really neat to see. I would not expect the XT-5 to win however I do not see how you could improve on it. But I have never shot a Q3.
I has been Leica M user for almost 12 years from M9 to M11. Q3 is my first Q. Q3 is everything as you said. But the price $6,000 is just not worth for me at all. Q3 is good but the image quality or character are not different from any brnads of Japanese camera. I watched your last video comparing Q3 and Sony A7Cr and I totally agree. It is not like M. Leica M is special and outstanding and I am willing to pay for it. So I decided to sell Q3 after 4 months. And I save that amount of money to buy a new M mount lense and Fuji X100VI and still have chang for my Japan trip last month.. Now I have Fuji X100VI as my everyday camera. It is very good enough to go with me everywhere for daily life photography and memory. And I will take M11 when I wan to take photo seriously. Again thank you so much for nice video.
Great Video Alex! I made a video about the Q3 as well and I am so happy I brought it! As you say as well - the best everyday camera! Ive owned the Fuji X100 V and sold it again - my comparison when I speak to people is always like with cars: the Leica is a bit like a Mercedes or BMW - the Fuji like a Toyota. :D
If the Q3 is your dream camera just get it and be done to save money … is like luxury watches.. I started with calibre 36 Tag Heuer than upgraded to few Omegas and Panerai and when I finally found my dream Rolex in 2015 I have no craving for any other watches even till now in 2024
That's right, in 2022 I wanted the Q2, in 2023 I wanted the Q3, in 2024 I bought the Q3 and since then I haven't wanted another camera in the compact size. Of course it's not my only one, I have an a7IV with several GM lenses.
Ill take the X100VI paired with the GFX that absolutely stomps the Leica in image quality and resolution... As nice as the Leica is, if it takes pixel peeping to tell a real difference you already know your extra $4,000 (used car price) just is for a red dot, which to me in all honesty is purely ridiculous. Side note, the hybrid viewfinder in the X100 series is something of a marvel, and makes shooting with it very fun.
I will say with Fuji settings matter. I took a few continuous AF photos of my nephew on a swing and I got several in focus pictures. I wish I would have used a slower shutter speed for motion blur.
For the X100VI ..... Be careful not to use face/eye detection with AF-C as photos may be blurry. Apparently in AF-S + face/eye detection it's OK. Or AF-C + Tracking but WITHOUT facial detection. Let's wait for an update
Another great comparison! I actually thought the Fuji would be worse, pretty impressive. But Q3 is sharper indeed. If only Leica would make a 35mm version of the Q... 🙂
Wide angle folks seem to be driving the decision to stick with 28mm...with the concession of cropping to 35mm, 50mm, etc. at smaller MP resolutions. That said, I don't see why they cannot add a 35mm lens version. Lens size might even be smaller. There are thousands of us out there asking for this. Bag the James Bond or "reporter" versions (really.....?) and add a 35mm lens.
@@ellisson10 I agree! 35mm lux version of the Q would be insane! A best seller! Now all we have is APS-C options or an older camera (which I got recently) like the RX1RII
@@ellisson10 By the way, I think giving the option to see the frame cropped on the screen and evf instead of showing frame lines would already take us half way. Would feel more like shooting a 35mm!
@@Hdden-Beauty Agree: You can do this on their M rangefinder film cameras with the frame selector on the body, so why not the Q cameras? Seems like it would be an easy firmware tweak, a menu item with drop down menu to select 35, 50, 75, 90. Done!
I'm torn between purchasing a Bugatti, ($900,000 and a Toyota 4 runner $40,000. Price is no object but quality, prestige and performance is of utmost importance. I appreciate a list of pros and cons so I can, at last decide. Thank you so much! Oh yes, fuel efficiency?
I don’t understand why Alex keeps saying the Leica has higher resolution in these crops. I believe the size of a given subject is almost identical between the cameras due to the combination of pixel pitch and focal length yielding arc seconds/pixel that are within 2%. This means they should behave identically at 1 pixel = 1 pixel 100% zoom, the Leica just has way more field of view.
I was going to say the same thing... Both look very close in his demo, even though the lens on Leica is much better. For four times difference in price I can see why X100VI is so popular.
Thank you very much! I'm currently looking for a travel camera. Many people talk about Fuji X100 VI, but alas, I see a huge difference between APS-C and full frame in image quality. Looks like Fuji is not for me
What about night photos? This would sell me one camera over the other I’m looking for a point and shoot and so far Fuji seems like the go to choice , I already own a a7iv with several lens but I would like something more portable
Pure pixel peeping, the Leica Q wins hands down from the Fuji. the Fuji is a nice camera and you can have good fun with it. ultimately its down to the money.
Thanks for your work, but 1) you should have taken photos with the Q3 at f1,7 full open aperture too. No wonder that the fuji is not as sharp when comparing both, but one is full open and the other is not 2) at 13:17 the aperture of both is f2,8, that is the reason, why both are really sharp, not because of "no face in the photo" as you assume
I couldn't figure out the difference at first. Apologies. I love Leica. However, Fuji isn't bad, Its compact to carry. It isn't expensive, compared to Leica.
I think the portraits you are often shooting at F2, whereas other scenes (like 13:44) you are stopping down slightly - the lens on the Fuji is quite soft across the image at F2, but improves massively for F2.8 basically all the way to F8. Saying that, fuji's can often say they've got eye focus but seem to focus either just behind or just in front of the eye - they definitely need to improve it with firmware
What about the x100vi vs the q2? Which one would you choose? I recently picked up an x100vi I’m considering if I should sell my q2 and pocket the cash or not
I have the Q3. But I did miss my X100V. So I got a X100VI since release date. After a few days with it I returned it. To me theres no comparison. I sent the X100VI back. I found the autofocus no different than the X100V. I was disappointed that they rushed this camera out because of the demand. Made in China ( and yes this does make a difference), same lens, slow autofocus, and the same stupid battery. Don’t get me wrong it’s a great camera and I love fuji colours. But get a XT5 with a small prime and it’s pretty much same weight after you add a thumb grip and hand grip. Trust me I know because I weighed everything. The Q3 definitely wins in my opinion. On another note I have a GRIIIx coming in a few days to try. Cheers.
The release of the X100VI was not rushed, on the contrary... more time passed between the V and the VI than between previous versions. The X100VI is made in China like almost all Apple products for over 20 years and no one is going to tell you that Apple is of poor quality. You are on beliefs. I had the X-T5 and the X-S20, which didn't fit in my jacket pockets (with pancake lenses) unlike the X100VI. I don't need a handle or thumb rest on the X100VI I just added a Smallrig arca swiss base that I modified (cut) to no longer have the handle which is useless. As for the GRIII I kept it for 1 week, for me it's really a scam, the Ricoh is way too expensive for what it offers.
@@NicolasBENOIT-l5f I think your bonkers. Why did I know you would use the Apple 🍎 analogy. I know Japan very well and yes anything made in Japan will always be better. I know so because I have lived there. Great pride is taken in everything. Unlike China. Yes I had the X100V and it was 4 years ago. I understand it was longer but remember everything was delayed because of Covid and supplies. Tic Toc and TH-cam so called camera reviews made it become a trend. Yes it was rushed. Why the hell did they go with same lame battery? I’m sure 99% of people would have had 2-3 extra millimeters on the camera than the 10 year old battery. Also same lens. Come on fuji. If you add a thumb grip and plate yes it’s heavier. Hardly any difference plus a much better camera.
@@skipper4114 pas compris votre histoire de déjeuner.... quand à votre commentaire qui a été supprimé c'est surement qu'il n'apportait rien si ce n'est de la désinformation comme votre post initial.
"The fact that this is a FF camera vs an APS-C camera and the bokeh is this close", uses just an APS-H section of the sensor..... Well cropped to 35mm the Leica Q3 is just F2.5 equivalent (when shot at F2 as shown here), that is not wildly different from the F3 equivalent of the Fuji
I think most fuji shooters wont have come across these focusing issues as i don't know anyone that really shoots at f2.. most use it for street and at f4 minimum.. i believe the fuji is its softest wide open also.. an f2.8 comparison would have been more interesting.
@7:15 "I cropped all the Q3 images to a 35 mm perspective for this comparison". You purposely handicapped the Q3 and it still wins. Shooting the Q3 at F2 CROPPED gives you effectively F2*(35/28)^2 = F3.125 equivalent which is less than the F3 FF equivalent that the x100vi has. And the Q3 will be down to 39MP instead of 60MP. If you shot the Q3 closer even with F2 you would get F2*(35/28) = F2.5 35mm focal length equivalent of bokeh and a much sharper image due to the 60 MP. Or just shoot it at F1.7 and get F2.125 35mm focal length bokeh equivalent. Don't give the Q3 a handicap and you will see more drastic results than what you did here
I had the same issue with portraits looking out of focus on the x100vi. Made me wish I had used the a7cii instead. I ended up changing my shooting mode from my custom settings to a default mode and saw a big change in sharpness. I did not take the time to investigate what was different yet.
Thank you for your efforts and knowledge. I use Canon R5 and I’m looking for that nostalgic look with the depth. I wish I could get the Fujifilm simulation for my canon. I do think if I switched, I would go for the Leica Q3. If you have any thoughts to share with me, I would be thankful. I also need to mention I love shooting homes and landscape.
If you love photography and money is no object go for the Q3 otherwise if you're middle class and need a travel camera the choice is clear, go for the x100v
Your commitment is peerless, Alex. Then again I respectfully digress a bit. Leica & Fuji have been, since the beginning, the Artisan's tool to create images. The contest about sharpness wasn't the matter in hand for the photographers using these cameras. Except on rare occasions. Some portraits required sharpness, such as the ones of an old man or woman. Those deep lines on their faces were tales of a life, especially in B&W. Not so when taking portraits of a young Lady. We even used to put a soft filter on the lens. Softness, even taken to extremes were flattering for the feminine images. Look at the works of the immortal David Hamilton. Then again, high definition was a must, in order to reflect character on the subject. Look at Richard Avedon and Sally Mann's works. Nowadays, I see photographers getting lost on such persnickety details such as bokeh... A picture could be perfect in technical details but would say nothing of value about its message. I'm just an old photographer from the 35mm. era. Keep on sharing, Alex. Have a great day!
Thanks for the video. The Fujifilm is called x100vI (six) and not x100 mark six. You don’t say Leica Q mark 3. This is per Fujifilm product managers. I watched an interview where they corrected the person calling it mark 6. Also, it is V and not 5 for the x100v.
the size is incomparable. Fuji much more portable. You can have both for differrnt purpose. Thats said, why not 1 fuji for casual or daily jpeg, and 1 sony for the rest? They together wont cost as much as a leica
Given the X-T50 is basically the X100VI with a lens upgrade, I'd love to see you replicate the Q3 test with that. Just to see if the lens can make a significant difference.
Fujis eye af AF-C mode is really unreliable. I cant tell you how many photos of my dog ive tried to take where it missed focus far more often than it should. I have an xt-5 and tried the 33mm, 23mm and 18mm all LM motors. It’s frustrating considering its already on the 5th gen of cameras with the latest lenses but still has AF issues.
Un 28 mm à 6500 € qui se démode à la vitesse de la lumière non merci? j'ai toujours mon 100 F depuis 5 ans dans mon sac et pour le tiers du prix le VI le remplacera.
I sold my XT2 and whole bunch of Fuji primes due to the lame ass AF system. The Q3 would be the perfect camera for me if it came with a 35mm Summicron instead. Of well, I saved $6K.
Q3 images look wayyy more 3D. Every single time. Coming from shooting x100 cameras for years, before switching, I’m certain the IQ difference alone has been worth it
If you have the money, buy the Q3 and don't think about any other compact camera. If you don't have the money, buy the x100VI and think about the Q3 until you have the money for it. Currently I don't have to think about any other camera.

I recently picked up an x100vi I’m considering if I should sell my q2 and pocket the cash or not
I would still pick the Q2
@@NicolasBENOIT-l5f I think your out to lunch. Seems like someone removed my comment. Childish. Must be woke.
@@skipper4114 pas compris votre histoire de déjeuner.... quand à votre commentaire qui a été supprimé c'est surement qu'il n'apportait rien si ce n'est de la désinformation comme votre post initial.
@@NicolasBENOIT-l5f sorry no speak French.
I’ve been enjoying my X100VI since I got it last week. Only using JPEGs with the newest film simulation so far. I have missed a few shots since Fuji 😂
If in doubt you can automatically do focus bracketing on the Fuji
What’s your opinion on the viewfinders?
Even the Q116 still better IQ and colour to the new fujifilm X100 vi .
What’s the default setting?
I’ll take a deeper look and report back to what was different
A7cR with the 40mm 2.5 would be so nice as an alternative to my VI
Thank you for your efforts and knowledge. I use Canon R5 and I’m looking for that nostalgic look with the depth. I wish I could get the Fujifilm simulation for my canon. I do think if I switched, I would go for the Leica Q3. If you have any thoughts to share with me, I would be thankful. I also need to mention I love shooting homes and landscape.
I'd get the q3 if I didn't have an r5
I thought you sold your Q3? I saw it for sale last year and almost jumped on it!!
Who knows what happened 😂
The real power of Fuji is that it can fit in your pocket. You can take it anywhere and only take it out to snap.
Try shooting both against the light, you will see the real difference.
If you love photography and money is no object go for the Q3 otherwise if you're middle class and need a travel camera the choice is clear, go for the x100v
I got Q3 and X100f. Not touched the fuji since I got Q3. Fuji feels like a toy compared to Q.
Basically, it’s the difference between a full frame and an aps-c sensor. Why don’t you compare 2 full frame 60 mp cameras?
I have, check out the channel 😁
Q3 is a 3D camera. Yes, it has much higher price tag.
I got the X100VI and Im selling it to fund the Q3. Not really feeling the images coming out of that camera. From f2-f4 the lens is soft
The AF from Fuji x100vi is so damn bad. I sold mine 1 week ago. So I bought myself a used Leica Q3. Still very expensive.
Un 28 mm à 6500 € qui se démode à la vitesse de la lumière non merci? j'ai toujours mon 100 F depuis 5 ans dans mon sac et pour le tiers du prix le VI le remplacera.
Its not good at tracking, use AFC wide zone and it’s petty good.
I cannot stop looking at the arms 😟
No, buy a used Q2 - every day of the week.
I sold my XT2 and whole bunch of Fuji primes due to the lame ass AF system. The Q3 would be the perfect camera for me if it came with a 35mm Summicron instead. Of well, I saved $6K.
I can tell which is the Q3 from the Bokeh 😅
I prefer leica 🎉❤
Leica and Fujifilm are on a completely different league. If you know Leica you know Leica :)
i am selling my X100VI and get the leica q3
Q3 images look wayyy more 3D. Every single time. Coming from shooting x100 cameras for years, before switching, I’m certain the IQ difference alone has been worth it
Fuji if you are poor
Leica if you are rich
your smartphone if you are smart with money and is not a sheep
Your smartphone if you don't know much about photography and don't understand what an actual camera offers over a phone.
= dehumanizing others based off of what type of camera they use is super awesome. 😂
I guess I'll get both?😂
