Some say Puerto Rico has no shells... it's NOT true!

- Some say Puerto Rico has NO shells... but that sentiment is simply not true.
I traveled to Puerto Rico a year ago, and over the course of 3 days, I filmed 8 episodes worth of shelling content at different locations. I will admit, I did a lot of pre-trip preparatory homework on what spots might produce the best finds...but it worked because I found TONS of shells.
On this episode we will visit the area around Fajardo in north east PR. I found literal handfuls of shells that had washed up from the nearby offshore reef. This day was particularly enjoyable for me not only because of the beautiful scenery, but because I actually didn't expect to find any shells at this spot. That's just how shelling goes sometimes - but that's also why the journey to find the shells we love, is so important.

The mini shells are so cool, I would love to spend hours combing through them, and the coral pieces are really nice, too. All that with the gentle sound of the waves makes for a paradise moment!

My husband was born in Puerto Rico. I asked him about shells that were there. He patiently and calmly said, "Honey, all I cared about then was baseball, certainly not shells!"

Hello friend! Yes, Puerto Rico is not known so much for white and pink sands, like other Caribbean Islands are. I will say though, that there are some beautiful black sand beaches in PR!

Every shell I found had an animal already living in it in PR. I just gave up because it’s someone’s home or abt to be someone’s home.

Hi friend! Yes I believe the sand here is made up mostly from finely ground up coral and shells, which gave it the pinkish appearance!
I went to PR but couldn’t find any shells. I ll look at this area next time
PR definitely has shells, you just have to look closely and have patience. If you go to PR and are looking for shells, I have heard that the island of Vieques(right off the east coast of PR, and accessible by ferry), has great and accessible beaches with shells.

I love to watch your videos. My 25th wedding anniversary is in December and we want to go to a great shelling and snorkeling area what beaches do you know of that we could look at?
Hello friend! On this trip, I explored NE and SE PR. Most of the places I went to were pretty remote and rugged(spots that I scouted out on Google Earth beforehand and had to hike to). Almost all of the content from this trip has been uploaded to this channel, so you could go back and watch some of those for context!
Some of the places I went to are Yabucoa, Punta Viento(where there is a reserve land), and the location of this video, Fajardo and Seven Seas area. Alternatively, I have heard that some of the best shelling in Puerto Rico is on an island off the east coast of PR called Vieques(serviced by ferry) - I can't personally speak to this place because I haven't been there.

What are the little pink shells you are not picking up?
Hi friend, these are called Coffee Bean Trivia shells. They resemble tiny cowrie shells, and can come in some bright colors!
