Strictly commenting on the television series, if Suleiman would have stopped Mahidevran in the beginning when she beat Hurrem, tried to poison her, lied and so on and so on; the story would have been different but it would not have gained the popularity that it has. Mahidevran's character was downright petty, evil, jealous, narcissistic and vindictive. She was stupid enough to think she could win, she didn't realize that Hurrem was more than up for the game. Mahidevran lost everything because she could not let go of a man that did not love her anymore and it was all about the wrong she felt was done to her. I'm like are you for real! He lost everything including his soul when he killed his sons. So sad but glad history writes a different story. History reads after Suleman met Hurrem he got rid of his harem.
This is the best comment regarding the show I've read since my own. Mahidevran was the cancer that destroyed so many!!!! Had she been stopped in the beginning Mustafa could've had a happy life instead he had to watch his mother cry and be petty all the time.
I'd like to think she gave up on sullieman when Mustafa got his province however her hatred of hurrem kept distracting her, allowing Mustafa to make a lot of the mistakes he did. That and she seemed to think Mustafa was as favored by sullieman as he was the people.
Mahidevran was not inherently evil. She does things when she is threatened. Hurrem is much more evil and manipulating than mahidevran. And I believe that even mahidevran in real life wouldn't be like this much that they have shown. Mahidevran lived many years as valide in Mustafa's province but she didn't do anything evil there and all harem women were quite respectful towards her while hurrem has been quite cold towards her son's harem and even killed rana hatun (bayezid harem) by blaming her falsely for nurbanu' death. Nurbanu was hurrem's karma.

Indeed, Mehmet and Selim were the only princes who didn't rebel.
