I know Selim didn’t have much of a choice, but I just know if Cihangir was telling Bayezid he wanted to leave, Bayezid would sneak him out of there in like 5 minutes
@elzbietabetlej4085 Selim was afraid of death. He was a liar and a coward. In a way Hurrem was also responsible, because she wanted both sons to survive. Even when told, one son will kill his brother. If she told Sulieman, what happened. Perhaps Bayazid would have been Padisha. But history made Selim the victor. So Bayazid had to die. Shame. 😭 He was the stronger after Mustafa. And if Mehmet had lived. He would have been Padisha. No doubt. Mehmet and Cihanger the nicest princes. Mehmet was the most, honest and faithful prince. And strong as well as had a beautiful heart. Unfortunately, Mustafa had mahinobrain for a mother.
@avrexin7287 also a liar and a coward. He said he was scared of his father. He was not worth the Sultanship. He also said Cihanger was afraid of Hurrem. Rubbish!!! He loved very much his parents. It broke his heart when Mustafa was executed. He knew Selim and all his misdemeanours.
Cihanger knew Selim stopped him from trying to stop Mustafas death. Of course he didn't love Selim as much as Mustafa. Mustafa treated him as a normal not handicapped man. Selim always had little snide snippets at Cihanger. Selim was the reason Cihanger went to Persia. With his remark about him not being able to be like them. Cihanger loved all his brothers & sister. But Mustafa was his hero.
Selim had no idea that his father would execute Mustafa and he played NO part in it. He never stop Cihangir. Suleiman had ordered Selim to take Cihangir away for hunting when Mustafa comes but he never told Selim about his real intention of killing Mustafa. Selim obeyed the order and took Cihangir with him to hunt away from the camp.
@josephstalin331 then why did Selim try to stop Cihanger from going back. He knew what was going to happen. If he didn't he wouldn't have tried to stop him.
Cihangir adored Mustafa and had great love for Bayezid. They both treated him with respect. Mustafa’s death broke him. Mustafa was the strongest, and the bravest. Bayezid was fierce and full of fire but had a good heart. But Cihangir was the purest of them. I cried when he died. At 13:19, you see a flicker of rebellion in Selim. He was a breath away from saying it aloud - that Cihangir's poor state was directly the result of the death of Mustafa, which Suleiman ordered, and which did, indeed, make it his fault.
He was the wisest also, I think. He was able to observe everything because he was overlooked by others and underestimated. I've never understood pitting brothers against each other, for any reason. It only hurts everyone in the end.
This is the most heartbreaking scene. Cihangir got so high, he went to see his father, pushing out completely the memory of his brother's death. How devastated were Suleyman and Selim seeing him in this state. How he begged his father to end his suffering and let him go... it is a masterpiece.
Oh, Cihangir...poor, gentle Cihangir. How your heart broke when Mustafa died. At the end, even Selim's heart broke, seeing his little brother in such a state.
The most remarkable performance is that of the young actor playing Cihangir. I’m using English subtitles but I almost don’t need the words to understand his pain, his isolation and sense of betrayal. Such a a powerful depiction of an innocent person who won’t think the worst of anyone until he has no choice. His intelligence makes his innocence a tragic flaw.
That's how the universe works. Even Hürrem, Mirimah and Rüstem can't escape the cycle. To think that Mustafa died of slander but later it will happen with Bayezid.
Cihangar was the smartest of them all. An iffn he did not carry all their sins an was addicted to opium the addiction takes over an makes it impossible to live day to day without it. An cinagr dies with the weight of everyone's death on his shoulders. He should have been a real prince on the throne.
He was a great ruler but at the end he lost all the people he loved. It's sad how many times he was deceived by a red snake who made his paranoia worse.
I agree. It was Suleyman who made all the decisions. He ordered the executions of Mustafa and later on Bayezid. And he also ordered the executions of his innocent grandsons (the youngest son of Bayezid was only 2 years old).
No she wasn't; she cried for days after Mustafa's murder. She really didn't want him to die, but the law was clear: only one son may live to have the throne. So she had to remove Mustafa to protect her sons so that one of them would survive.

They were all caught up in too many calculations. Many lost their lives for no good reason. If the sultans had a system of succession things would have been smoother. No wonder their empire fell. Poor practices and mismanagement
It was intentional and well orchestrated nonsense. After all, if no one has absolute and defined claim to the throne. Then everyone and their mother has a chance at power literally. People are greedy for power. Unfortunately, the greatest flaw in this system became its own greed. It's like right now when most people are supporting billionaires politicians and rich men funding politicians, who do not have their interest at heart. Currently, poor people see themselves as rich people. They subconsciously think just through meritocracy they can get there. The leopards are feasting and the prey is offering itself willingly thinking it's higher on the hierarchy. The flaw in the Sultanate system was built in and left for a reason.
Poisonous intrigue that put zero value on human life or relationships by ego maniacs, driven by greed for money, power and influence, what tragedy dynasties are.

Because Mustafa is infinitely better and superior to Selim in every way and everybody knows that. I like Selim but everyone knows that he was absolutely nothing in comparison to Mustafa. If not for witch Hürrem's evil plots he wouldn't have even stood a chance at taking the throne
