    Those who complained in your last video have no clue about millwork or crafting anything out of wood.
    I'm a designer for one of the largest custom furniture manufacturers on the east coast we have tons of waste every year, we do recycle but still waste is waste, your work is perfect thank you for sharing!

      Very true. I figured I'd see what I could do with a log, how far I could take it...and quite a ways, two nice vases! But it is so interesting to me that they complained about the waste from a bowl turned from firewood...wood that was to be completely destroyed forever...and failed to see the art that was saved. Thank you, I appreciate your comment, and it sounds like you have a nice job!! Cheers!

      @@RHumphrey Offer the so-called "waste" to bushcrafters, survivalists, or homesteaders for bedding and firestarters or make your own on the side and sell it for profit... Waste not want not and it'll twist their panties a bit more.

    As you were mentioning that yoy sloshed Danish Oil around the inside of the vase to coat it, I was mesmerized by the stunning flash of rotating segments. Turning the piece on a turntable at the end was truly the ultimate way to showcase the multifaceted nature of the Black Walnut wood ... And to think that someone was just going to burn it? It pains my heart to imagine

    I know I've commented on this vase before. It's still beautiful 😳! It's also good to know that you are conscientious and take time to read the comments. I've heard you comment on the lack of tools. Your work is amazing with you using what you have! I'm sure those who complain about waste sends you the wood you work with, other tools you need as well as the money for the electricity bill so you can share your amazing yet expensive hobby with us! I look forward to seeing more of your awesome work!

    • @RHumphrey
      @RHumphrey  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really appreciate that. I do read and respond to all comments, as much as I can...I've been overwhelmed at times, which is a very nice problem to have! But, yes, there's much more that goes into a project than what many think about...the power, the tools the sandpaper and finish...the time... and equipment for filming and editing...so many other things. When someone complains about the "waste" that comes from a wood turning project, especially a firewood rescue project, it's very clear they haven't thought things through. But, I took it as a challenge and made this vase and the bigger "brick vase" from one log and still had a pile of shavings (waste I guess) lol. Thanks for the comment and the nice thoughts! 😊👍

      @celestinedunn5855 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RHumphrey time is the most precious investment! It's something people truly don't consider. Are wood shavings used for starter logs? Resin is another costly investment, yet, you can mix wood shavings into it as well as make your own molds. Just a thought. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work!

    WOW!!!!! I love watching these videos. I don't have a lathe to turn wood, but do wood working projects all by hand until I can get power tools.
    I make a lot of "above average walking sticks"!
    I always get asked if I have a lathe and have "turned" them..."Nope, all done by hand!!" I tell them...
    I have some walnut logs and cedar logs I have been working with.
    They are about 7ft long by 6 to 7 inches in diameter.
    I use a rasp, a file, and sand paper to grind, file, and get them into the shape I want them in.
    Yes, it's a long, long, long process, but they turn out beautiful!!!
    I sand them down with the highest number sand paper I can get.
    For finishing, I just use mineral oil for now until I can afford something else....
