This is the first time I have seen a demonstration of a heart using a square illustration. It is actually a lot easier to understand. The way she describes and explains everything clearly and simple is just remarkable.

This was such a great explanation. I work as an RN at a level 4 and recently lost a baby to PPHN crisis (GA 25-->37wks). We tried absolutely everything. Baby was 2.1kg and just barely qualified for ecmo. She ended up being too small to cannulate (the surgeon tried everything). So thank you, this really helps me to understand what happened 😥
Oh I’m so sorry- those are really tough situations :( and after baby was 3 months old- makes it even harder. Poor baby and poor family and poor staff who definitely got close to the baby too. I’m glad this lecture helped in some way

Thank you again. All the parts in this lecture are praiseworthy. In the diagnosis part i am a bit amazed to knoe about right ventricular hypertrophy, because hypertrophy is usually a slow process, and right ventricular dominance to some extent is expected in neonates. Correct me if i am wrong.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! You’re right- the heart is right dominant after birth (on an EKG etc) but the RV shouldn’t be larger. It doesn’t take long for that right side to look thicker and become hypertrophied (days- weeks) but you’re right - the other stuff happens first.

If I may, I am having difficulties in understanding the pathophysiology of TOPS (twin oligoamnios polyhydramnios sequence), especially the neonathology consequences. I don t know if it was already specified by someone else, but I think it will help a lot of people with the approach after birth for this particular case. Thank you very much for all the work that you do, I am a neonates resident from Romania who practices in France and I can tell you that it is a relief to watch you and truly understand the pathophysiology.

Hi Tala, I am a pediatric cardiology fellow and this is a great video but I just wanted to correct one little thing the ductus arteriosus generally attaches to the descending aorta after the left subclavian artery has taken off the aortic arch and not after the right brachiocephalic.
Thank you so much!!! A couple of other cardiologists have written to me too!!! Thanks for taking the time to write! You’re correct and I definitely said that wrongly- most of the time (nearly always?) the Ductus is after the subclavian. With our babies we emphasize so much that the right hand is pre-ductal and I think I went down that pathway if trying to show why that is. (Whereas in reality the left hand is often pre-ductal too. But just because it’s not always! We don’t generally teach that as “pre- ductal”). I need to figure out how to change the video (without watching it cos can’t bear to watch myself!!!) Thanks!!!

And therapeutic bc I had these concepts loose and disorganized floating and fading in my brain, it feels so good to have a better understanding after watching your lectures! It seems like you've really tried experimenting and explaining this in different ways to see what makes the most sense to patients and your students. This is creme de la creme! Makes me want to go into peds! I only wish I could slow down time to have time watch all your videos and be more ready for rounds!
I don't know of any other peds specific youtube channels, but I do find it fruitful to watch Emma Holliday and Divine Anatomy's Peds content, and Dr. High Yield's as well.

Thank you again. All the parts in this lecture are praiseworthy. In the diagnosis part i am a bit amazed to knoe about right ventricular hypertrophy, because hypertrophy is usually a slow process, and right ventricular dominance to some extent is expected in neonates. Correct me if i am wrong.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! You’re right- the heart is right dominant after birth (on an EKG etc) but the RV shouldn’t be larger. It doesn’t take long for that right side to look thicker and become hypertrophied (days- weeks) but you’re right - the other stuff happens first.

If I may, I am having difficulties in understanding the pathophysiology of TOPS (twin oligoamnios polyhydramnios sequence), especially the neonathology consequences. I don t know if it was already specified by someone else, but I think it will help a lot of people with the approach after birth for this particular case.

Hi Tala, I am a pediatric cardiology fellow and this is a great video but I just wanted to correct one little thing the ductus arteriosus generally attaches to the descending aorta after the left subclavian artery has taken off the aortic arch and not after the right brachiocephalic.
Thank you so much!!! A couple of other cardiologists have written to me too!!! Thanks for taking the time to write! You’re correct and I definitely said that wrongly- most of the time (nearly always?) the Ductus is after the subclavian. With our babies we emphasize so much that the right hand is pre-ductal and I think I went down that pathway if trying to show why that is. (Whereas in reality the left hand is often pre-ductal too. But just because it’s not always! We don’t generally teach that as “pre- ductal”). I need to figure out how to change the video (without watching it cos can’t bear to watch myself!!!)
