Watched the walk from start to finish it was fantastic to see you on your knees sometimes but still going on showed massive commitment well done lad, keep it going son it's a brilliant watch ,beautiful places some of them me and the wife had been to so we could understand your enthusiasm,we stayed with you all the way bless you for sharing this experience.
I'm surprised tha dint get a sudden urge to wear a flat cap and start saying "hey up". Warmed my heart when it started and the first thing you mention is needing a brew 😂 you'll pass for a local with words like that. Yorkshire dales is a special place. Some of our rarest wildlife resides in the Dales as well as the north Yorkshire moors. Both have a very different feel to them. You should 100% check our the moors. Miles and miles of moorland,.especially in August when the Heather is out and it's just a sea of pink for miles.
I discovered walking, camping and map reading doing the Duke of Edinburgh scheme at school. I'm 64 and still backpacking. Currently doing the Coast to Coast.
Nah then, ey up me duck. This is one I've been looking at myself. Lovely first day fella and of course it's going to be nice as it's in Yorkshire, Gods country. 👍🙂
You have the most beautiful countryside, hiking trails, cute paths, lovely bridges and gates- so much history and culture ... love going on these hikes with you❤
Thank you for a lovely set of Yorkshire videos. I live half an hours ride away from Bolton Abbey and spent many days by the river with my son enjoying the scenery, water and picnics. I know he will do the same with his children. We are very lucky to have the gorgeous dales on our doorstep. Makes me proud to be from such a beautiful county. Do come again and check out The Strid - it's something to behold!
Thank you very much for your kindess taking us with you on your hiking❤ My husband and I love your hiking trips, the exploring of new ways in beautiful England.Never been there in real life .And we extremly love your waffeling. Please don't stop😅 It' s lovely ❤
Canadian Girl Guide / Ranger here. Big impact on my life. Camping and hiking, and selling… cookies! That was some years ago though, I have just turned 67. I do a lot of trail walking, I am a bit slow at it though because I have camera in hand and I don’t want to miss anything. Lol! Thank you for a wonderful walk this day, nice not getting wet and not too many cows. - Gaylin, Ontario Canada
I’m a UK girl guide who was lucky enough to go on an international camp in London, Ontario in 1991. I loved camping & also camped in the green canvas ridges tents. I’m now a brownie leader helping the next generation have adventures & make new friends, learn new skills
Loving the walk on the Dales way, it's good to see it again. Appletreewick is called App'trick by the locals. The swing bridge is a bit wobbly but the walk along the river is ace. My late hubby's local was the Devonshire in Grassington. It had the same affect on him too. Lol. Thanks Glenn. 🤣
It was great seeing this. I lived in Ilkley for 11 years - up until 2023. Then I moved to Northumberland for ten months. Now I'm in Arnside, across the river from Black Crag. The Dales Way is excellent. It follows the River Wharfe for most of the way. There is a Dales High Way, which is more of a challenge - it traverses the hills, rather than the valleys and river.
What has amazed me most, other than the scenery, your waffle and genuine excitement, is the fact that you managed to find a northern train actually running out of the furness peninsular. I'm looking forward to part 2 .😊
I have to say, I was half expecting you to have realised in the edit that I am incredibly boring and cut me out 😂 I just hope that being pitched next to me didn't put you off doing another long walk: maybe High Way next time? All the best!
I'm so glad to have discovered your channel. Your videos transport me to places of the utmost natural beauty. This helps me enormously to unwind as your calming therapeutic mannerisms & your zest for life are what is so captivating. Thank you 👍
Great video! The scenery and the architecture is so beautiful. I'm getting a very different perspective of Great Britain watching your videos. It's a very beautiful country. I really enjoy these multi day treks. Great job!
Thanks Glenn. Grassington brings back happy memories...it was the start of my first (of many) walking holidays with my father and two brothers...happy days.
Love the Dales Way, I am a Yorkshire Lass and I adore some of the places. Burnsall, Grassington are gorgeous. Buckden is lovely too, hiked up Buckden Pike for some fab views along the valley. Sedberg has of course the Howgills which are amazing. Bolton Abbey also has the Valley of Desolation up to Simons Seat that is gorgeous! Grassington is where they film All Creatures Great and Small, great walks round there too, Barden Moor, Linton Falls, Conistone Dib and Kilnsey Crag, Mossdale Scar
First time I did that walk September 1980 , it rained non stop till I got to Grassington. Many years later I did some of the Cumbrian way, again 6 hours of rain till I got to Conistone. ☔
I know the DW from Ilkley to Grassington quite well. If anyone is thinking of doing this I've got to say this video is a really good navigation guide and worth a close watch. Looking forward to future parts of bits of the trail I don't know.
Scouts and ventures……same for wife. Kids now in scouts and explorers. Love heading over to the lakes, Scotland and our beautiful Northumberland. Off to Aviemore for half term as loads of great stuff for kids to do up there. Definitely think scouting helps foster that love of being outdoors. The camps, incident hikes, wide games etc are still very much part of scouting and our local units have waiting lists. Popular and as cheap as ever. Love getting the kids away from the dreaded screens.
Just finished watching this first section and I’m already thinking it’s one for me. Walking along that river through what is idyllic and typical English countryside looks more appealing than the first leg you did on the Cumbrian Way.
Hello Glen, Beautiful walk! (Hello to Andy! Lovely to meet you! ) What a nice surprise to see we are going on a walk about! And a new adventure to see things even you have not seen. You did encounter ALOT of people but this walk goes through more villages. We are looking forward to part two. AND we are looking forward to van trips as well…maybe with Finn! Cheers, Mike and Barb in North Idaho, USA…
Nice to meet you too! You're going to love the walk. The Dales are amazing, even though I'm a little skewed that way seeing as I live just outside them.
Did the Dales High Way in July 21 and what a fabulous place Yorkshire is, this vid brought back so many wonderful memories - Glen I think you have to the best job in the world, and here's hoping you get to 100k subscribers real soon, you absolutely deserve it !!
Really enjoyed this Glenn, although I’m having fomo right now after reading all the comments about the Strid 😂 It is such beautiful, gentle countryside, so different from the harsh Aussie bush! I was a Brownie and a Guide and it had a huge impact on my life. I’m still out in the bush every chance I get. Thank you for sharing your adventures 💜
You're knocking out of the park mate, excellent! What a great episode! Definitely with you on the Scouts being a fantastic way to learn about and get interested in the outdoors 👍👍👍
Your video brought back great memories of my husband & I doing this walk back in April. The river was a lot higher then. You film so much of the route and I appreciate how much work goes into doing this. Keep doing what you do, in my opinion the best TH-camr out there!
The Scouts, Guides etc are a fantastic way to introduce kids to the joys of outdoors. My daughter loved it and has continued to love walking, canoeing etc and her kids the same. Sadly there are waiting lists for packs as there aren’t enough adults to run them
I walked the Dales Way last summer and loved it. Similar to your first day I enjoyed 6 days of sunshine. It’s a fantastic part of the world and I’m pleased you’re showcasing its beauty for everyone to see. Looking forward to episode 2.
Another fabulous video, you are a great source of uplifting spirit. Your videos are fun, inspiring and from a scenery perspective, captivating, thank you.
I was a scout then became scout leader then onto being a venture scout. I live in Norfolk and the later introduced me to the hills , then I started climbing which let to exploring the Alps and long distance walking . I’m 70 now but still do walking !. Scouts started this for me !.
So glad to see you covering the dales way. I did this in April and loved it then in may I did the Cumbria Way and in July the Cleveland Way which was my favourite.
@@avpmobi No don’t. The current at the surface looks relatively mild, and it is, but the main current is channelled and funnelled underneath the surface and is absolutely lethal. Somebody measured the pull of the undercurrent once and nobody has or would have the physical strength to overcome it, especially so if you get pulled down into one of the crevices.
Hiya Glen ...so glad you did The Dales way ...its a trail that few people know about but different to the Cumbria mountains it may be but the scenery is so spectacular in a different way ..I loved it👍🏻😁👍🏻
Was a Guide and then a Ranger and brilliant memories of those big green tents… Two Raven weekends where we nearly froze to death in the snow and then had to rescue belongings in the next as the campsite flooded 😂. Thanks so much for your videos and they have inspired me to go camping and trekking again and so far I have completed St Cuthberts Way and the Arran Way this year and after watching this I think the Dales Way or the Cumbria Way might have to be next😂😂😂
This is fantastic, Glen. Beautiful countryside. Love your videos. Yes I’ve slept in (actually owned) a two-pole canvas tent with no fly and no groundsheet, back in the early 80’s. … As part of these “ways” walks, have you considered Joss Naylors “Lake, Meres and Waters”? He did it in 19 hours (105 miles!!!), but for mere mortals, it breaks down into 8-10 sections.
France! The Chemin du St Jacque! If not the whole way, start in Le Puy en Velay and head south through Conque (don’t miss that!!!) go for as long as you care…journey of a lifetime!!!
So pleased you decided to do the Dales way, lots of fond memories around that area, especially around Ilkley. Can't believe you did not go down to see the Strid though. Really looking forward to seeing the rest of the journey.
I love your enthusiasm for walking. The dales is a pretty part of the country. I have been to Grassington and have done many walks and waterfalls. Thank you. Look so forward to your walks. 😊
Good morning Craig And thank you for a beautiful walk in the dales ways looking forward to the next walk with you on my sofa oh and the double chocolate ice cream look nice to have a gd day Craig 😊x
Wow Ilkley looks beautiful and English. Soooo looking forward to this series and going along with you. Hope some nice b&bs we are staying at. Can’t wait ❤
Hey Glen what a beautiful walk that looks, at 71 Yrs old still in scouting and very much promoting the great outdoor life. keep up the good work gives me something to watch every night instead of soaps, will be getting my Explorers to watch your vlogs ✌⚜
Another great area and walk ,beautiful scenery. A place you could check out which my brother camped and walked a month or so back which seemed mountainous and beautiful is the Vosges its in France on the border of Germany, he saw Chamois a type of mountain goat
Oh come on, now you're doing the Dales Way!? Definitely not fair! 😛Another walk I want to do, I even bought Terry Marsh' guidebook a few years ago. Enjoy!
Been looking forward to this, watching you walk our regular routes.. Been up in Swaledale today, watched you in wharfedale and now watching borrowdale on countryfile, which is where we were last week. If you're interested in a "way" around Swaledale/Wensleydale have a look at the Herriot Way. There's also the Inn Way series which might appeal 🍻 can't wait for the rest.. Think it should take us up nicely to our short break we have booked in Sedberg 💚
I can vouch for the Herriot Way. I walked it a couple of months ago and loved it. It’s got a bit of everything and logistically it works very easily as it’s a circular walk.
Thanks for taking us on another walk, weather is much better, I would have had to look at the strid though, one of the world's most dangerous sections of river
Fantastic video, as always. Thank you! Fancy a 100 mile (ish) walk in north-east Scotland/the Cairngorms? The Speyside Way is a popular walk and my friends here in Tomintoul run a fab B&B and would be happy to do you evening meal as well. I'll buy you a pint of Belhaven Black in the local pub too! 😊
I'm very eager to find out how the shoes are. I've been looking at them for ages. Also, we need to give you some lessons in assertiveness( livestock).😊 Yes I was in the cubs then the Scouts and then the services and it definitely seeded my love for the outdoors. But also as a very young lad I had to wear callipers as my legs weren't very straight. So my Nanner use to take me and my sister tramping all over the N York moors to strengthen my legs witch worked a treat. This also had a big impact on my love of the outdoors.
Another great video , I thought you must be doing the Dales Way when I saw you in Grassington outside the pub , it was your voice I first recognised. It’s a walk I’ve done twice, it’s lovely.
Cannot believe you gave those cows a wide berth
This is the England that I imagined reading the countless storybooks of childhood . When the sun shines it is the most beautiful country in the world
Watched the walk from start to finish it was fantastic to see you on your knees sometimes but still going on showed massive commitment well done lad, keep it going son it's a brilliant watch ,beautiful places some of them me and the wife had been to so we could understand your enthusiasm,we stayed with you all the way bless you for sharing this experience.

Nah then, ey up me duck.

Lovely first day fella and of course it's going to be nice as it's in Yorkshire, Gods country.

Glad you liked the campsite - it’s owned by friends of mine, Jason and Claire!
Man i'd love to just get away like that.
You have the most beautiful countryside, hiking trails, cute paths, lovely bridges and gates- so much history and culture ... love going on these hikes with you❤
Beautiful!! I kept expecting to see Compo, Foggy and Clegg!! Parts were very Last Of The Summer Wine ❤ just gorgeous ❤
That bridge (43 minutes) is the Nidd Aqueduct, built in 1899. So no knights. Or maybe just knights who say 'Nidd', instead of 'Ni!'.
Thank you for a lovely set of Yorkshire videos. I live half an hours ride away from Bolton Abbey and spent many days by the river with my son enjoying the scenery, water and picnics. Have to say, "look at it" has to be your new catchphrase. You say it with so so so much excitement. Love it.

Great vlog looking forward to the whole walk
Thanks Glenn. Grassington brings back happy memories...it was the start of my first (of many) walking holidays with my father and two brothers...happy days.
Supported a mate running it last year.. I did from windermere to the back end of Sedbergh for him.. lovely route
Mans first time seeing robo mower. Exciting times
Walked The Dad's Way 20 years ago. We walked it from Windermere to Ilkley.

I'm very much enjoying all the Klingon/ Star Trek references you've made in this first video. I except more in day 2!
WOW! Breath taking 😮 I really enjoyed this video, what a stunning place ❤ All I said while watching is.. WOW! WOW! WOW! …
First 7 minutes u sounded like a kid in a candy shop 😊made me smile ❤from Michigan
Love watching your videos, so interesting and funny along with all the stunning scenery you take us through, love your van trips too xx
Got to love Yorkshire it really is picturesque, and less crowded than the lakes 😅
Did the Dales High Way in July 21 and what a fabulous place Yorkshire is, this vid brought back so many wonderful memories - Glen I think you have to the best job in the world, and here's hoping you get to 100k subscribers real soon, you absolutely deserve it !!

Loving these adventures, just had to pause it there cos you’ve just said you’re going to camp, woo!! Excited! Back to the walk now😀
Brilliant video Glen as usual, im absolutely loving these multi day trips I have to say , beer of choice while watching (Stella Artois)
I was a scout then became scout leader then onto being a venture scout. I live in Norfolk and the later introduced me to the hills , then I started climbing which let to exploring the Alps and long distance walking . I’m
70 now but still do walking !. Scouts started this for me !.
France is stunning.
Looks like Yorkshire.
It’s Ap’trick!
Glad your enjoying it , I live in Addingham it certainly is a wonderful place to be
So glad to see you covering the dales way. I did this in April and loved it then in may I did the Cumbria Way and in July the Cleveland Way which was my favourite.
Yey, I loved the Cumbria way.
The Strid is THE most dangerous stretches of water in the world, bar none. Fall in there and there’s basically no chance of you getting out alive.
Yes. The river turns 90 degrees. The width becomes the depth. Don't jump it!
Tom Scott did a great video th-cam.com/video/mCSUmwP02T8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nmh0A1krtx5VVvr3
Stupid kids that we were we used to jump across the Strid puts the fear of Gods in me now when I look at it.
Tom Scott made an informative little vid about it: th-cam.com/video/mCSUmwP02T8/w-d-xo.html
Picture postcard houses and villages…….stunning……..must be a dream to live in places like that
1:04:50 we used to sing a song, "we call it smelly helly, yeah" to the tune of mellow yellow, definitely to be avoided! 😂
Hiya Glen ...so glad you did The Dales way ...its a trail that few people know about but different to the Cumbria mountains it may be but the scenery is so spectacular in a different way ..I loved it👍🏻😁👍🏻
I can't believe you just bypassed the strid, probably the most impressive part of the whole part of this walk 😂💔
My young years in The Royal Ranges definitely planted the seed for the outdoors
Hi Andy great seeing clan members out and about!
Was a Guide and then a Ranger and brilliant memories of those big green tents… Two Raven weekends where we nearly froze to death in the snow and then had to rescue belongings in the next as the campsite flooded 😂. I even won a place to go to an international camp in Sweden - wonderful and a whole different scale with totem poles and tables and benches made from whole trees…… Those ghost stories and sing songs round the campfire with spam fritters and hikes into the countryside definitely instilled the love of the outdoors and got us through the awful 1970’s and 80’s in Northern Ireland.

West Highland way next? I absolutely love your videos. Keep it up!
What a wonderful wonderful video. I truly felt like I was with you. You can’t wait for the next stretch!
Good morning Craig

Great start to the next walk, looking forward to the rest.
Wow Ilkley looks beautiful and English. Soooo looking forward to this series and going along with you. Hope some nice b&bs we are staying at. Can’t wait ❤
Beautiful scenery.
Loving these 'Ways' walks. Can't wait for you to do the Cotswold Way. Thanks Glenn 😊
It is a very pleasant walk
Dont forget there is also the Cleveland Way too and Pennine Way
Hey Glen what a beautiful walk that looks, at 71 Yrs old still in scouting and very much promoting the great outdoor life. keep up the good work gives me something to watch every night instead of soaps, will be getting my Explorers to watch your vlogs ✌⚜
Outstanding Crag lad. Grew up in that area, can confirm it is totally brilliant.
Glad you didn’t fall in to the Strid mate, deadly! Fantastic vid as always dude! 👍🏻
Watching from Australia 🇦🇺
These videos bring me so much joy! Thanks for creating them.
The fancy bridge before garden bridge is for carrying water pipes over the river
Great to meet you on that walk. Video turned out great!
Another great area and walk ,beautiful scenery. A place you could check out which my brother camped and walked a month or so back which seemed mountainous and beautiful is the Vosges its in France on the border of Germany, he saw Chamois a type of mountain goat
