    It's obvious that without the right tools and a thorough knowledge of the "workings" of these locks, a great majority of these locks are virtually unpickable from a walk-up-and-pick-open situation, even to a lock-pick person.

    • @tashkiira7838
      @tashkiira7838 4 ปีที่แล้ว +209

      There's good Chinese stuff out there. I used to own some very high quality Chinese shirts that took 8 years of warehouse work to kill. It's just buried under lowest-common-denominator import crap. Basically, you need to have someone over there you can trust to dig out the good manufacturers, you have to keep your factor (the guy doing the digging) sweet, and you have to keep the manufacturers sweet. So instead of paying $1/1000 parts, you're paying $1/100 parts, or even $1/75. Compare that to paying $1/50 parts here in North America.
      Unfortunately, most people are on a race to the bottom on prices for all but luxury goods, so finding quality Chinese goods in North America is unlikely at best..
      Having said all that, Master locks mostly suck (they DO make some very good stuff in very specific areas, but you're not gonna believe that high quality lock-out/tag-out lock is from Master when you're used to their normal garbage quality).

    • @SpiraSpiraSpira
      @SpiraSpiraSpira 4 ปีที่แล้ว +197

      Tashkiira very true. China is great at producing whatever product you want at whatever spec you give. The main spec people give is price, so cheap shit is produced but that doesn’t mean they can’t make quality products.

    • @amirabudubai2279
      @amirabudubai2279 4 ปีที่แล้ว +94

      @@SpiraSpiraSpira I wouldn't say that. False ratings/specs is a big problem in China, particularly in materials like steel and copper alloys. I saw a building where they had to redesign the roof mid construction because the Chinese company lied about the grade of steel which resulted in the roof bowing in before it was even finished. Worst part is, nothing could be done against them; China has no real mechanism for foreign companies to sue. Never followed up on it, but willing to bet the steel company just changed its name and went on to scam the next American company.
      In short, China is the wild west when it comes to business. You have everything from high quality electronics to straight up scammers to companies that produce high quality products with stolen molds.

    I'm sure you can easily get the key in China, since it must be the same for many locks.
    Around here they use a master key system. Anyone can purchase the lowest level lock, which contains the bitting for all the higher levels, and modify the key. Very smart to provide the general public that kind of access to your power distribution network, just so their guys only have to carry the one key around.
    Now there's talk about replacing them with some incredibly complex system where each individual key (and any copy) can be traced to the owner, but the locks would cost an absolute fortune. All just because someone didn't understand how maser keys work.
