I really enjoyed flying the Roaster 3. I agree; it has great launch characteristics; with trims in, it's a docile, lifty wing; let out the trims, and it's an edgy performer that easily carves tight 360's and quickly builds wing overs. Thanks for letting me take it out for a spin! Super fun wing!!
I got to fly a demo unit while out at Midwest PPG back at the end of Sept. I loved it, it was my favorite glider that I got to fly. It will be what I order as my first wing.
damage.cc awesome! Been flying mine for a bit. Absolutely love everything about it! Just wait until you get it into the air, you will never want to come down.
Excellent Review guys. I'm currently learning on a MacPara Charger... Once I master that wing, I'll surely consider the R3... Oh, and Eric, one of your first students, Blake Davis is my Instructor up here in Georgia! Small World! Safe Flying Guys!
Loving our Roadster 3! Has been an awesome progression from our A wing. Strongly recommend as an excellent all around 2nd wing. I didn’t think I’d like the pink (or fuchsia I guess) in the color scheme, but it actually is a gorgeous wing.
Thanks for the review. Only thing is that in the manual page 7 it says "When accelerated directional control should be maintained with the TST system. Do NOT use the brakes". It is different here 5:22
Is the roadster 3 an option for a brand new pilot? I was looking at getting into the sport with a mojo, but don’t want to outgrow it too quickly. Incidentally, I’d like to be able to paraglide with the same wing, but this isn’t an absolute requirement. I appreciate there are always trade offs.
I’m about a 40hr PPG pilot at this point if you include training. I trained on a Velocity Edge A wing equivalent and purchased the newer gen Velocity Core A equivalent. At about the 25hr mark my dad and I picked up a Roadster 3 simply because we needed 2 wings to fly together and it seemed like the logical progression. I don’t think I’d be too worried about outgrowing an A too quick. We’ve flown every Saturday-Sunday(and then some) since June and I’d say I still have a ways to go before “mastering” our A wing. We’re throwing BIG wingovers on it, and still thoroughly enjoy flying it every time we go out. One thing I guess I’d potentially hazard against is buying a reflex wing as your first wing. It adds some knowledge elements that you MUST know and understand in regards to the shape of the airfoil. Read up on reflex wings and maybe even read the Roadster 3 manual on the web. The added elements of a reflex wing could add to the already overwhelming experience of learning to fly PPG. I will say that the huge trim range, tip steering, and faster handling of the Roadster are nice, but aside from those things you’ll be plenty happy on a Mojo for a while and can always sell it on one of the many forums or FB gear pages. The only downside to our A wing that I’ve experienced is how SLOW it is, but mind you it’s a 33m A trying to keep up with a 28m Roadster 3 and 24m Spyder, not exactly a fair fight. Happy hunting!
Both are very similar. I got to fly both. Mind you I am still a new pilot, only about 36 total flights, so take my opinion with an appropriate grain of salt. I found the charger needed more break pressure than what I had learned on (Ozone Mojo). This resulted in me (being new), not applying enough pressure on launches and landings causing me to have to run more. I am not dissing Mac Para, they make good stuff, for me it was more about what I had learned on and was used to. It seemed Mojo and Roadster seems to have comparable brake pressures.
Beautiful wing! If I ad enough vision to fly, I'd want my custom design to resemble the Martian invasion craft in the classic War of the Worlds. Thanks for the video. :)
The thing to consider is the kona's trim range is almost nonexistent. I launched one yesterday full trims out and I could not tell the difference at all compared to the spyder which is close to the roadster 3 in trim range. The kona feels very ridged in flight and I was riding some booming thermals the other day taking collapses and it takes it like a champ. Thats about the only thing it has going for it. Tbh its a wing that feels like its trying to do too much and not excelling at any of it.
Hi, kona owner here for about two years. The Kona excels in free flying as a low enB, it's a free flying wing (buzz z5) with trims. For paramotor it's great to learn a to get the feeling but the trim range is very short, so for xc and on mildly strong wind you are not gonna have a good time (you can use trims out and speedbar though). The roadster (I used the 2) is fully ppg oriented, so for free fliying it sinks too much on turns. I would say If you're going to do free +some ppg the kona. If you're going to do ppg definetly the roadster
What do you think, in which aspects is the Roadster 3 better than the Speedster 2 and the other way around (I know, they are not really in the same class EN-B vs. EN-C, but I am trying to figure out which glider I should buy next)?
I would just tie the tip lines into the brake toggles and kite the wing making sure the tips and trailing edge engage at the same exact time, also make sure you have zero deflection with trims open and on bar.
After some more research you could even set it up so the tips engage slightly before the brakes, makes flying full out trims even safer because your turning with less brake.
It seems to be a competitor to the Mac Para Charger. Can you compare the two. Speed (relative comparison...the same person using the same gear), trims, material, weight, flight characteristics, etc.???
Well it has tip steering and full reflex profile so it will take much more for it to collapse but if it does it will be a bit more violent than the dominator k2 which is just a free flight paraglider with motor risers.
Their full EN reports are available on Ozone's websites :) The Mojo is much more docile and designed to keep you safer if you make a mistake. It's ideally targeted toward schools and beginner pilots :)
@@jeffobrien1836 with trims in and brake pressure 1 to 2 the glider will soar no problem..use tips to turn without losing much altitude. It will free fly but can't compare to a true free flight glider.

The R3 definitely has some cool new features the current Spyder does not have but it will still probably be a little while I would guess on when they decide to release one, if thats what they do. I love Ozone. And after flying the new R3 last night, I have to say, I am really really impressed! This will be my next cross country glider.
Very intuitive ...but they decided to call it a Spyder 3..but I will still go with the Roadster 3 after all its the same wing except lighter fabric ..so I think in this case its just a bit more durable ..BTW I just sold my Spyder 1 or now called two LOL
