I grew up in the UK listening to my mother’s story’s, on how she carried my older brother n sister, on her back as she walked from Hargesia to Dira dawe, when the planes attacked the city in the afternoon right after prayer. She said people climbed the roofs of there homes to see the planes flying over, until they started bombing the city. This story deserves more than a 10min clip the story is deep but ends up beautiful mashallah..

Instead of wishing to become President and and flattening Mogadishu in the case of war, why don't you wish to become President to improve Somaliland and to bring it modernity. Even in the case of war, you shouldn't want to commit a genocide like Barre's govt did. Do you really want hundreds of thousands of innocent people dead?

@Master Ali I have a plan. We spend 500 million on khat a year. If we cut it by half we can make an oil exporting company and drill our oil with no cost. I will build a dam on togdheer river that will stop flooding and produce electricity. I will ban charcoal production and start growing trees everywhere. After that I will change the economy by using tourism. I will construct the tallest building in the world in Burco which will be the Dubai of Africa (as tourism). So if oil prices drop we can use minerals and natural gas tourism fishing and livestock export as a backup

@@Noobscodee Somaliland is the only Somali region (out of the 5 regions constituting Somaliweyn) to have given up its sovereignty and independence for the cause of Somaliweyn willingly. No other Somali region did this in the past, and no other Somali region is willing to do the same today. Fact It was Isaaq who insisted on uniting with Somalia immediately when Michael Mariano and the Garaad of Dhulbahante advised against immediate union. Fact Immediately following the union, the majority of Somaliland voted against the constitution in 1961. There was clear dissatisfaction with the terms of unification and every single government of the Somali Republic failed to address Somaliland's problems. Fact Somaliland received under 7 per cent of development assistance sent to Somali Republic. Fact By all accounts northerners and specifically Isaaq contributed the most towards the war effort against Ethiopia (here is a Marehan vet of the 77 war detailing this point, if you do not believe him check this source too, it is well known that Isaaq shed most blood during that war and suffered the greatest depths of resultant economic deprivation, yet Siad Barre repaid their valour by ordering the executions of six Isaaq generals. Fact This was followed by Siad Barre attempting to displace the Isaaq from their lands in favour of his maternal relatives the Ogaden. Ogaden refugees were settled in Isaaq lands, they were armed and began to attack Isaaq nomads. Fact It all culminated in the genocide of Isaaqs at the hands of the full military might of the Somali Republic. What many of you do not understand, or ignore, is that this was not a clan vs clan situation, which happens all the times between all clans. This is the only time in the history of the Somali peninsula where the full military might of the state was used against a single clan. There were smaller scale attacks by the government against other clans, but what they did against the Isaaq was clearly an attempt to obliterate us. They even hired South African and Rhodesian pilots to completely destroy our cities. Understand this, the Somali state killed 200,000 civilian Isaaqs. The Somali state completely levelled our cities. Many of civilians killed were strafed by military aircraft as they were attempting flee to Ethiopia. Fact These are just some of the facts. We joined this union willingly and put everything we had on the line for it, we fought and shed blood to reunite all Somalis, we forwent a state that we completely dominated, our own independence and got shat on for 30 years straight. You lot are the real Somalidiid, we have sacrificed so much for the notion of Somaliweyn, it did not work out. We will never repeat the same mistake again.

Millions of Isaaq people were massacred by this regime and Airplanes Bombarded their two largest cities Hargeisa and Burco. The same planes that took off from the airport of Hargeisa Bombarded the same city and people of Hargeisa. Millions Fleed and the Airplanes even followed them to the refugee camps. So I say today is not the time to mourn but it is the time to fight back and Gain what we want out of this world. We want recognition, peace, and Justice for Somaliland and its people.

The more we speak about those problems the easier it becomes and closer we get to find a solution for the problem of yesterday and today. I’ve always said Somalia is at war with itself but no one else and I’m glad you have said it too. Unless the Somalia of today accepts the fact that the so called “greater Somalia concept” is a failure and let the Somalilanders express their right to self determination, there will not be a long lasting peace between the two countries and people.

Abdurrahman Isse Somalia will not be great as long as it continues to be at war with itself. You mentioned “chaos” in all parts of Somalia but in reality Somaliland continues to enjoy the peace they have brought to themselves. The chaos Somalia wants to bring to Somaliland is due to the fact that the two countries are in proxy war ever since the independence of Somaliland in 1991. Somalia will not let Somaliland and Somalilanders live in harmony and of course Somaliland will continue meddling with internal affairs of Somalia both directly and indirectly.
The two governments are far better off working together as two sovereign nations to strengthen the economy of the two countries. There are so many different opportunities and untapped resources that the two sides can benefit from yet we continue to fight w meaningless war that only brings more suffering to no one else but the people. 🤷🏽‍♂️

But somaliland and Somalia can both accomplish alot together as a team. Somaliland has one option. Mohamed Farrah Aidid, a Somali warlord stated a basic truth when he said "No victory, no peace". As scary as that is to contemplate it holds a very real kernal of truth.
His son was a US Marine who was stationed in Somalia who has since returned to Somalia after the death of his father to take up the tribal banner.
No civil war in human history has ended till one side lost. Yes there have been cease fires but only a short lull in the fighting. No victory, no peace. This fact will haunt Somalia!

why Isaaqs (northerns) wre being targeted was that the Isaaqs clearly refused the dictatorship, communism, the lack of power sharing and justice and all the corrupt culture of southerns that took over the union government. They sacrificed their everything for freedom and demoqracy. That is pure braveness.

Rare earth thanks for being the voice of the voiceless. I see a lot of people from south claiming that Somalia’s civil war effected almost every one and every town. But keep in mind that the civil war between clans started in 1991 but, in the case of somaliland we are talking about between 1980-1990 when the siyad’s regime was in full power. We talking about unprecedented brutality committed by government to its civilians. Apparently, almost every family in the lost a member of his family to this war. Somalia’s story from 1991 is different, and northerners have nothing to do with that.

swifty , there’s no specific way to get recognition. It’s comes down to the political situation of the country. I see a scenario of Somaliland/Somalia talks breaking down after many attempts. Then Somaliland will probably request a referendum observed by the international community accepted by the UN. Once Somalilanders vote for independence then the international community would have to except the results and recognize them. This might take 15-20 years or longer.

Iraq was an illegal war and I hope to God the day will come where my people - the American people - will no longer stand for such atrocities. The song we sing is changing, we as a people are weary from constant war. As time goes on, our tolerance for the deplorable acts of the rich and powerful wanes. I hope there comes a day when we rise up and say we will not stand for this any longer. When that day comes, I will put my life on the line to make sure our efforts are not wasted, and I hope every other American reading this would do the same.
