    Thanks so much! This was the only video I could find on how to do this job without taking the car apart! Took me maybe 20min with your help. I heard your voice in my head when I was dealing with the top screw ("be patient, you will get it") and I sure did lol. My tip for the next guy, I ordered a low profile wrench from Amazon for under $10 to get that top screw and it worked like a charm. All around under $40 and less than hour for a potential $800 repair.

    Man, this video was so helpful and saved me a tremendous amount of headache. I was on the verge of buying a new AC compressor when I found your video and realized that this is what my problem was. Thank you so so much man.
    If anyone is having a hard time getting that top screw off because of lack of clearance, I used a pair of vice grips to hold onto the T25 and then slowly worked it out that way. I wasn't able to get a ratcheting wrench to fit in there, so that was the solution I had in my garage. Also, make sure to wear some gloves when doing this if you've been running your car at all. That metal pipe next to the motor is super hot (which I suspect over time causes the plastic housing to degrade and eventually fail).

    Great video and this is a very challenging fix. I did the same on my ‘17 Passat a month or two ago. Same set up as your GTI. Mine has dual climate. Drivers side always blew cold. I got my actuator at VW; $130. While I was in there I replaced the heater core too; $40. Not a fun project but if you do it yourself you will save yourself around $1000 as it is very labor intensive and uncomfortable. Very good video in this process and well done!

    Guess what man, my passenger side cog fell off the blend door motor as well! Never heard of it happening to someone on both sides.
    The passenger one is easier to get to than the drivers one and managed it myself this time. I think these motors are accessible for a reason!

  • @jamiechristie9417
    @jamiechristie9417 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, not sure about the casing being open. Haven’t heard of that before. What usually happens to this part, from my experience also, is that the motor’s pretentiometer track inside goes bad and it loses it minimum / maximum vales (that’s why the cog keeps wanting to turn, even when it’s at the extreme of its turn). The cog eventually can fall off the motor and lie in the footwell. Well done for managing to replace this, I managed with great difficulty to get the old one off but got my vw dealer to put the new one I ordered back on. The space is extremely tight. If you have fat hands , forget it! I was lucky to get mine fitted for free as a goodwill gesture from vw uk (after a bit of persuasion) I also don’t know if the new motor needs programmed to the car, but certainly I would be doing the flap recalibration at least. (Press and hold Ac button and face vent button at the same time)
    Well done in having the patience to fix your own!

      Yes I’m in the process of figuring that out. I’m think I’m just gonna take the whole thing out I was hoping to just remove two bolts and slide it out of the way.. but the one at the top is a nut which doesn’t allow you to slide it towards the firewall.

I was only able to remove the most buried screw once the mount had broken off the actuator and couldn't figure out how to get it back in after the replacement so my actuator is only secured by one screw. Hopefully it survives until next summer.

      I am unsure where I purchased min, If you look on Google "mk7 gti blend door actuator" Many options will come up. Some Of them will come with the Gears that mates up to the motor, you will need to look at yours to tell if you need it. My understanding is the motor casing splits like mine did and that's the common failure point.VW Parts warehouse is a good option and very affordable. Mine turned out to be ok, and it's the blend door mechanism that's failed.. I'm going to try and replace without pulling the entire dash

    I have a 2015 Passat and the issue I have is, the blend door actuator doesn't stop at the defrost. It continues to roll past. I have replaced the blend door actuator motor and it didn't resolve the issue. I also replaced the controller on the dash. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    • @wmluna381
      @wmluna381 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interested in insight as well. Have you resolved the problem since your post, Travis?
      I have a 2015 Passat Wolfsburg and the only heat I am getting is at the mid-level vents at anywhere from 130-145F degrees at a 3-6 fan level while the car is at operating engine temp. So okay enough heat there.
      No footwell or windshield heat blowing through. Footwell is at 43F degrees. These measurements were taken while it was 33F outside within the last hour. It's way worse when outside temps dip below freezing here in Michigan in January. I've had some really uncomfortable commutes.
      Based on the process of elimination troubleshooting, I am leaning towards blend door actuator, but it sounds like you still ran into issues there considering your listed efforts.
      I don't happen to hear any ticking or clicking with my vehicle, and I can change btw hot and cold, so maybe my particular problem is something else.

I’m thinking our mechanic family friend might have forgot to put something on or something isn’t properly installed ? It’s a 2016 gti. What is there that he possibly could have not put on properly while installing the water pump or timing chain ?

      Just a guess, maybe the wrong model of, or missing the thermostat. If the car cannot build heat through the heater core it won't blow warm air. The thermostat should be changed with the water pump, you may want to ask if it was changed out or if it was put in at all.

    All of those servomotors are the same for a 2015 GTI S, I have several damaged ones but I don't know how many in total it has and finally does this cause the air to not cool properly?

    • @knowgearsknowglory2862

      There are tab least 2 servo motors. 1 to change from warm air to cool air. the 2nd is the change which vents the air come out. if the servo that changes from warm air to cool air ( like in this video ) doesn't work it will only stay warm or cool and not change between them.

      I had the same issue with my VW as well. (2015 TDI S D/Z Climate) I bought the car last winter and the car did put out some warm air, (not enough to take the chill out) and on really cold days I almost froze to death. My issue was the whole passenger side would put out relatively cool air the driver side being somewhat fine on warmer days. Thought it was the blend door motors failing, but turns out in the end it was the heater core... now you can't even hold your hands there for 5 seconds without burning them off😂

The plastic rim which stops the cog at max turn worn off and causes the cog to hops over the lid and puts the gear out of sync.
