Pretty good video. I own a 2008 auto PRHT with 50k miles. The trans has never been serviced and the pump whines pretty loud. I'm going to do the service following your example and hope for the best. It is encouraging to see one of these with such high miles. Hopefully this car will last for a while. I am not a young man. This is probably the last car I will ever buy so I need it to be reliable.
I hope it goes well for you! Im glad to hear you found this helpful
I got mine for $65 dollars from Ebay not an OEM one. The first one did not fit right and broke during installation, got refund, second one fitted just fine. That said the look and finish of the ones I had was close to the original.
Thts Great!
I think i drained all of the fluid out, but i only filled another 3 quarts. Now removing the check bolt drains soo much fluid?? Did i do something wrong 😢
did you get the car to operating temp? once the transmission is war it starts circulation of the fluid.
@@knowgearsknowglory2862yeah it's been warmed up, i just drained all of the fluid from the check and pumped in more, going to turn the engine back on and go through the gears again. will probably just test drive now.. used 3.5 bottles
Watch this
Just did my girlfriend's. My extra piece if advice. Remove the driver seat, makes access much easier. 4 10mm triple square bolts, one pop connector and 2-3 electrical connectors and its out. Takes less than 10 min. And find someone small to help. Girlfriend could get two hands up there where I could only get one. She got the electrical connector and top screw done way easier than I could. I also had a small ratchet meant as a portable bike repair tool that accepts 1/4" hex bits. It fits up there easily.
Great way to raise the car on 4 ramps! have to do some work on my car (Mercedes SLK r171) and was thinking of doing ramps at the back and axle stands at the front but I think the 4 ramps solution using the jack on the front is way better!
I’m just doing this job and I’ve put everything together I’ve bought 5 litres of 3309, how many litres does it take as I cannot find this info???
mine took around 6
Is 40k miles too late to change the transmission fluid in my 2010 NC MX-5 Grand Touring with an automatic transmission? I heard people say not to do it. I see you have a lot of miles. How did it hold up after the change?
Thank you for the video. Do you happen to have the part numbers for the oil ring, pan gasket, and filter?
where did you get the carb bowl gasket? Thanks

Isn't self servicing an automatic MX5 the automotive equivelant of an oxymoron ?
Hmmmm
What is the part number?

hello. is the 450r worth it/better than the 400x? i also ride in Arizona dessert.
The 450 def rips hard. The last couple years of 400's were faster than mine. either way they are hella fun!
Today I fixed my 2016 Touran, same issue as yours, driver side actuator was clicking after ignition on. On hot days most of the times it was switching to cold with AC on, but lately the weather got a little bit colder and it stuck on hot only no matter AC or not. I couldn't find a 1/4 boxed-in wrench as advised, so I used a L-shaped T20 instead. It was a struggle with the L-shaped, but here I applied the "be patient - breathe - take a break" routine and I got the unit out successfully. Then I slapped in the new actuator, struggled again with the top screw, same routine, aligned the gears. Done!!! Btw that metal pipe next to the actuator is really hot, so to avoid burning your hands don't use the car prior you start fixing this. In my case i had to wait a little for the pipe to cool down. Cheers and Thanks!!!
Congrats on your fix ! Man It's great when its done!
How many quarts did you end up pumping in?
5.5 I think was the last count but please done quote me on that
I made a pair last year like these but rectangular. More specifically, poster size (24" x 32") because I covered the fronts with posters. Now the artwork sings. A subwoofer is absolutely needed to bring out the lows, even with larger panels.
Thanks for the video. Subscribed. I know on the NB, three of the bolts that hold the filter on go through the control valve, two thread into the transmission body and the third has a nut on top of it that can fall off. Is that the case with the NC/ND filter bolts as well? Or did Mazda fix this absurd design flaw with the SJ6A-EL transmission?
Similarly a couple bolts go through the valve body but I don't think the rest apply.Maybe they learned?
@@knowgearsknowglory2862 Thanks a million!
Will this be the same process for a 2016 seat leon estate
It will likely be similar, if not the same.
Thank you
2011 NC PRHT Auto trans. Dumb question. Car just turned 22K miles as I dont drive much and live on an island so no place to go. Anyway, since buying I have changed oil, tires, struts due to a huge hole in the road. It suddenly hit me one day that while the miles were low I had exceeded the months element on my owners manual. Car drives well but I am wondering should change the AT fluid? Does it break down just due to time? Also, what other things would you suggest I do just for "insurance". Not realy a DIY guy. I have read the cooling system can have issues. My coolant tank looks a little yellow so I figure I will just replace that as well as the coolant. My AC is running but seems to be much less cool than it was initially. Likely low gas/coolant? I like this car and after a few years of health issues want to start to use it consistently again. Appreciate any input. Aloha.
Doesn’t that light mounting bracket get mounted on top of the fender before bolting together? The other one is and that looks to be part of the struggle with mounting. I could be wrong, just an observation. About to do some work on my fender and was looking for tips, definitely got some good ones from your 2 videos… thanks
Excellent explanation 👌
Thank you !
Great job man! Love the NC1 vs the later NC front end designs. Not a popular opinion, I know.
Mine was clicking and now my right side doesn't blow cold air when I turn on the ac. Is this what I need?
yeah sounds like it. Are there 2 sounds clicking? The hot/cold is one that switches and then I believe there's another blend actuator for the vent system

Great video!
I highly suggest using a sub woofer with the DML's. I prefer the Dayton Audio DAEX25x4-4 quad/ spider cage exciters, had good luck with them. I also suggest spacing the speakers farther apart and play with proximity to the back wall. For anyone building these I just use coarse thread screws directly screwed into the foam to hang the speakers - no adhesive involved and no issues even with the heavier quad exciters. Cheers
Lol. The plastic cap backed off the unit. I thought it was broken and almost bought a new one
Nice save!
Appreciate the content on the 2 door trim piece removal - everything I found was for the 4door before ya! Gotta pull mine to run some helix wiring in the coming weeks.
Great to hear it was helpful, that's the point!
Thanks I took it to the dealer and it was the fill plug seal they said it would splash over and it was leaking from that 130 dollars no more transmission leak
Great to hear!
Hi question yes yesterday I noticed couple of spots of transmission fluid on the floor. I cleaned the floor put the car out side for about 2 hrs put cardboard on the floor ln the garage and put the car back in the garage looked under the car don’t see anything wet and no fluid on the cardboard. Sucks I’ll go to Mazda today to check the fluid how do you check it or is there an indication light something tells you that you have transmission warning it’s crazy thanks You mentioned the check to see if it’s full how won’t it come out if you pull the plug? And if I put jack under car won’t it give false reading?
the only way i know to check the fluid level is to pull the plug when at running temp and try to add fluid. if it runs out immediately its full.

You might think only "successful" builds are worth posting, but this is useful as you did what all DML starters will do, the foam panels, and will get not great results. Its always the bass missing. I read you should frame your panels, like with a rectangle of wood around the back, to get bass. The whole audio scene is new to me "crossovers, impedance and ohms, oh my!" lol. I will try a few things but liked for your effort.
This explains it all right here…. 1. 240k plus miles- it runs perfect 2. 4/5 owners n still like this? 3. No other car can do this! 4. I own a mint 13’ prht in SF- 5. 10 on a 10 scale😂 Cons? Wife nor hound can fit! Oops- that’s a good thang🎉🎉
That's a 1976 not 1977 or later.
Really helpful video even for ND owners. Good work
Can someone help me with the proper part number for this exact issue but on a 2017 Passat SE?
I found the part. Question is do I need to spend $125 on OEM or can I buy the $37 aftermarket Santech?
HVAC Blend Door Actuator Part Number: 561907511B Supersession(s): 561-907-511-B I think this is the VW Part Number you need. You should be able to narrow down on price from here. I hope it helps.
Jajaja
Love you men thank you
So air fuel screw must be turns 1.5 or 2?
Thanks so much! This was the only video I could find on how to do this job without taking the car apart! Took me maybe 20min with your help. I heard your voice in my head when I was dealing with the top screw ("be patient, you will get it") and I sure did lol. My tip for the next guy, I ordered a low profile wrench from Amazon for under $10 to get that top screw and it worked like a charm. All around under $40 and less than hour for a potential $800 repair.
Thanks!
Hope this helped?!
Dude, you made the best video for this job on TH-cam! I like that you also showed any mistakes or problems along the way. I have a 2017 ND Automatic Miata. Do you know if the NC and ND use the same transmission?
thank you for that great compliment! My understanding it the transmissions between the generations are different. I don't have knowledge of how different they are.
Same case, different torque converter. Otherwise the fluid is the same, and maintenance should be approached in the same way
@ADUSN Thanks. Just finished mine. I did a lot of research and found that Idemitsu Type TLS synthetic fluid is the absolute best. Also, there is a line pressure valve adjustment on the valve body that can be adjusted to a higher setting with just a flathead screwdriver and without taking the valve body out. I adjusted mine and can feel about a 10%-15% improvement in shifting firmness. If you drop the pan, there is no reason not to adjust this setting. Next step would be a shift kit but that could make it too harsh for normal driving.
@@DaveSimkus Good Info, we've discussed this on the Miata forums but nice to hear from someone who did the work on an ND 👍
@@DaveSimkus Great info thank you!
Where did you buy the replacement for the door sill. I am not having any luck. Husband removed during speaker replacement and the LED strip ripped. Can’t find replacement parts.
I found it through a VW dealership online. Ill have to look back to see who
Look it up under " Door Scuff Plate" and add which side of the car that needs it. You'll get results youre looking for
Where are you located?
Outside Phoenix, AZ
how did you remove the washers?
Do you have to tune your Mk6 GTI after installing high flow drop in air filter with everything else stock
No Sir!
All this shit wanst an issue 15 years ago when there was a cable from the knob to the door flap. Did they need to reinvent the wheel by coming up with stupid electronically controled motors?
I’m in Az. Can you help me do bike work on my TRX 450 lol 😅
All of those servomotors are the same for a 2015 GTI S, I have several damaged ones but I don't know how many in total it has and finally does this cause the air to not cool properly?
There are tab least 2 servo motors. 1 to change from warm air to cool air. the 2nd is the change which vents the air come out. if the servo that changes from warm air to cool air ( like in this video ) doesn't work it will only stay warm or cool and not change between them.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH I NEED THE SERVO TO CHANGE WARM TO COLD AND THE RECIRCULATORCAN YOU GIVE ME THE CORRECT FOR MY GTI 2015 S@@knowgearsknowglory2862
