i have a Ryobi bp42 backpack and it never run good after i watch your show i worked on mine it runs great, but it cuts off and it won't start again unless I pull the spark plug out and put it back and then it will start. Can you tell me why this happens? Thank you for all your help with these videos, they helped me a lot.
sounds weird right,,, thats not a problem that can be diagnose in a text. your looking for some kind of loose connection. Watch it again, I clean the coil and the connections. Check the plug connector for rust. But even with all that, it could still be something else and your only noticing it in this way check your compression, ya need at least 100 psi check the muffler and screen.. Clean that as well.
Good question Clint! I often speak of this in newer videos.. Its a 50/50 mix of gas and transmission fluid. Tranny fluid has cleaning agents in it but cant hurt seals/O rings! And its a lubricant,,,
My BP42 has ran great for two years. Always ran 40:1 engineered fuel. News plug. Recoil is fine but no spark. Only residential use. Any idea what I need to do to get it to crank.. Thanks, Darryl
Check the coil with an ohm meter if you have one,,,Try going from the plug wire to the ground, or metal body of the coil, my guess is it should be around 2 -5k ohms, then check from the metal body and the tang or control tab. not sure what that would be but probably around 500 ohms or less
Take the plug out and spin the engine over the opposite way to check the coil/plug/spark as long as the switch is on you should have spark, its just a simple generator, doesn't care which way it turns! Just start the drill slow and speed up slowly
You didn't show anything that helps the diyer. You cut to the finished item each time. We need to see the details between each cut...How did you take the yellow top off, how did you get the rope wound?
Your right,, thanks for the feedback!! These videos are so long to begin with, I struggle to edit them, what do I show?? I have better camera gear now and editing software but still face this issue,,, In the future I will take all the footage I can, this way I have it and then I can decide later..
I talked about that but I didn't have to do it. I cleaned the coil and the mounting flange after I did the OHM meter test, often that's the issue, the chassis wont ground the coil due to oxidation. The coil to chassis ground has to be there. Its the return path to the plug ground, the control switch is grounding the the control electronics. Sometimes I do pull that wire but considering all the oxidation I look more towards cleaning and testing 1st.
AceOspades I’ve looked up Ryobi magneto replacement but can’t find anything. Is this the same as replacing the igniter coil module? I found one on amazon but reviews are not the best. Where would you recommend I get one if this is the case? Harbot 291424001 Ignition Coil Module for Ryobi RY08420 RY08420A Backpack Blower www.amazon.com/dp/B07DCWN19H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_9jLvFbXSDVDCJ
There is no choke cable, its a lever on top of the carb,,, the Throttle Cable is shown, pause the video if need be. Its one of my early video's, I didnt have the equipment to shoot with that I have now
I've never found any information to be useless. Especially when it free! I was a beginner at making videos, I offer what I can and for free, how about you?

What's in the small clear squirt bottle you used at 22:34 (among many other places)? I never caught you naming it explicitly. Is it a lubricant?

Great video. I am trying to spin the magneto like you to check for spark but the nut on the shaft just spins and the magneto never turns. Any ideas?

Why didn't you just disconnect the ground wire from the coil ? If it fires, you know it has a bad ground.

Its your Magneto. Had one myself. Ran great for a while then come to find out the Magneto was no good. Replaced it. Never had a problem since
