When I saw the landers come out of the smoke stacks, I got a good chuckle haha. This is a beautiful and crazy mission! I can tell you've put a ton of effort into all the architecture, designs and camera work. Looking forward to the next part!
Hehe, thanks! I always try to challenge myself in finding new vehicle designs and aesthetics, both in the epic and... humorous kind. I appreciate the compliment, indeed it was quite a bit of work. Hope you enjoy the finale! :)
What an absolutely insane project. Cant imagine how long it must take to plan, build all the crafts, do all the manuevering, all the editing for youtube...not to mention dealing with the kraken
I'm doing something similar to this but I won't be landing on Io or Europa, only flybys, it will be interesting to see how the two missions compare given that I'll be doing it with modern, present day tech instead of 1960s/70s era tech, I'm sure it will be a banger as always TD.
Heh that should be interesting indeed! Note that due to the accelerated timeline I do have some more modern tech (modern RL-10s, advanced NTRs) available. Will the Io/Europa flybys be crewed? Would still be quite a bit of weight just to have the radiation shielding needed to survive.
@@TDChannelKSP yes, they will be crewed, they'll have a decent amount of lead shielding (10mm I believe), and I wouldn't expect you to be able to do any sort of Jupiter mission reasonably without advanced NTRs
@Reach did his Trappist in KSPIE style, very different to stockalike or RO style(though he limited himself from using FTL tech)and he did it six years ago when RP1 itself is still branded as lightweight modpack so I’m not sure if it’s feasible now
do you see any benefits for this wheel placement besides the looks? while you don't perform roll it's probably safe but why the risk? are they going to dock, land and become a bicycle? the ships are amazing!
Correct! (well, Andoria, not Tholia) It's effectively the precursor to Seayuz, timeline-wise - switching to sea-based launches later once they realized massive land infrastructure was too cost prohibitive. It's also a reference to the first time I used it 5 years ago... th-cam.com/video/dsP-yQ17U88/w-d-xo.html
Please don't tell me that they're rescue rockets... Also please don't tell me that something will go horribly wrong that almost results in a mission failure, unlike what happened with the VAV in Project Tholia...
Not quite! All of them stayed safely below their career limits of 1.5Sv thanks to some planning and trajectories in Part 2 ;) plus, only 2 crew will venture inside the radiation belts, the other 4 will remain outside. (so, higher risk but not too terrible)
BDB has limited support in RO, but I didn't use it here. Instead, RO has various mods (ROCapsules and ROengines, for instance) that use models derived from BDB!
For KSP, it's all about single core performance - the AMD vCache CPUs like the 7800X3D make the best choice (5800X3D is also great as a slightly less pricy option). Pair it with a modest GPU (I record in 4k so GPU demand is a bit higher, but it's not much overall - a 4060 is more than sufficient) and you'll have a good system. A key part of it though is editing: I use ffmpeg to decimate my clips (automatically removes stutters, freezes, sped up to a good framerate) to make the video look smooth. Ultimately KSP will still KSP even on good hardware. Personally I have a 7950X3D, 64GB of RAM, and an RTX 4090 as I do stuff other than KSP (non-gaming related)
If you're referring to the ones around Jupiter that look fairly white, those are the inner/outer radiation belts, added by Kerbalism! They're quite dangerous, and one of the main challenges the crew has to go through for landing on the inner moons.
@@TDChannelKSPI actually refer to the ones during the third burn of Calcutta during departure to Jupiter part 1... 13:20 or so, as well as during the rendezvous of Calcutta and Kronos.
@@darkstormetherstar Ahh, gotcha. Those are communication lines / cones (the area they can connect to) from the RealAntennas mod. (different antennas can have different beam widths and such)
Imagine sailing on the ocean and you see a ship sink into the water, stop, and fly up again like it’s nobody’s business

Wow! Very impressive! Mission cost in the trillions of 1967 dollars!
I like that there's one completely absurd rocket that we're yet to see
Another legendary project from the man himself! Man, this must have taken incredibly long to produce!
this is one of the best kerbal videos on the platform. the cinematics, the visuals, the execution, and the beautiful craft design. well done man
This is the craziest logistics I've ever seen in a KSP mission.

i love the editing and the camera angles! great job td!

"The burn will be split into multiple segments to take advantage of the Oberth effect" basically in every interplanetary video.
yay finally! next one is trappist system!
Impossible in RP-1, kinda possible in ancient RO
The problem is NTR can’t get to that kind of speed…even with TD’s magical power of making **BIG** rockets
Also you need to dump kerbalism away and replace it with TAC or USI to either hibernate or have new generations…
