Is the 2021 Nissan Sentra SR a better compact than a Corolla or Civic?

  • The Sentra recently received a major redesign from Nissan. On the outside it took a similar look from the Maxima, but added its own twist. On the inside you will find a more premium interior with Nissan's zero gravity seats and revised infotainment system. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 that produces 149HP & mated to a CVT. Is the 2021 Nissan Sentra SR a better compact car than a Corolla & Civic?

Just picked this car up in the same color combo as my first brand new car. After 10 years of driving a vast variety of used cars I’m definitely not disappointed, not the fastest thing in the world but holy hell it takes corners like a champ. All things considered for the price this is a great daily driver for someone that doesn’t need something too crazy but still looks nice inside and out.

Just got my SR in this exact color scheme about three weeks ago. Took it on a 5 hour both ways road trip last weekend. Had absolutely NO PROBLEM keeping up with traffic or having to gain pickup to pass others so I don't get the whining from people about the CVT tranny. Responded perfectly as I needed it to. Plus the steering was nice and taut as I made my way around the crappy curvy PA Turnpike. Averaged 39.2 MPG on the trip which exceeded the listed 37 MPG stated.....and without ECO Mode. 👍👍

Bought this car a couple months ago now, absolutely love it. Coming from a Jetta previously. A couple of thoughts, yes, this car is slower compared to an SI or Corolla, but if you’re struggling to merge on a highway or pass someone, than I think its the driver and not the car. This does have a sport mode which the button is hidden on the shifter.
The car is light and it picks up acceleration pretty quickly, despite the 149 HP engine.
One suggestion is I hope they come out with a NISMO 200 hp version, that would satisfy people that need bigger engines.

It climbs all the mountain roads I drive with ease and no loss of speed which is really important to me. I have almost 40,000 miles on it now and it still runs like new. I get up to 44 on flat highway and consistently well over 40 at 70 and up to 80 mph. It does do better at 70 with the mileage, but little difference between 65 and 70.

Thanks dood this video pretty much helped me make up my mind. I've always loved the Nissan brand but apparently they dont offer hybrid or give that reliable transportation vibe. I'm looking to get rid of my beater corolla and this year there's the 2022 civic, the corolla hybrid, and the insight. The hybrids are more expensive but they dont look nice. The sentra is not a hybrid but..the style is to my taste. I love the aggressive look and it reminds me of king skyline but lacks the bite of it.. The biggest thing here is
-360 camera. As far as I know none of the hybrids I mentioned have these even at the highest trim. The mazda 3 have this but only at the highest trim..idk what the deal is but features like this should be a no brainer. This makes me lean heavily towards getting a sentra. The SR is affordable for me compared to other cars that goes atleast 4-6k more for the better trim so the price is doable for me. This will most likely be my new car this winter.

I was considering the Nissan Kicks SR but now I have my eye on the Sentra SR. I love the amount of tech Nissan is leading with and getting a sunroof at the top trim is something that the Kicks does not offer. I love the MB/ Audi air vents and the interior overall. However Nissan is seriously lagging behind with the HP. The Hyundai Elantra has 200 HP. CVTs continuously turn my stomach and AWD should be an added at an additional cost. Overall I think the sentra is a great option and the two toned white & black with black wheels is a head turner. As always Joe and Lori you do a phenomenal job. I wouldn't buy a car without consulting you first! 😉

    1. How long have you and Lori been married? Has to have been for quite some time because CLEARLY she is use to your humor because I don’t see how she films without cracking up out loud!😂😂😂.
    2. Confession, I always would comment on your videos whenever you reviewed a Nissan product and would dig out their CVT’s. I need to buy a new smaller CUV and it came down to Hyundai Kona and the Nissan Kicks. Nissan was offering a better deal with more options and well....... I bought the Nissan Kicks! Bolder Grey, dark dark tint, loaded up and Joe I love it, had a Sentra back in the mid 90’s and had zero issues but was initially really scared to go with Nissan but so far the CVT has not been an issue at all shift quiet and normal. Of course I did get the longest warranty possible. 🍺 to another great video! Can’t wait for the TLX TYPE R review

Now compared to an antiquated 21 Infinity that looks like it's from the 90s for like 70k the Nissan SENTRA SV (different trim than Joe showed) trim for 25k looks like a Bentley inside with the diamond stitching. Considering Nissan is the parent company to Infinity it is strange to see Nissan making such a nicer car than their premium brand infinity for so much less money?! That just provides my conspiracy that Infinity deliberately wants to go out of business more validation 😂!
