What is the current state of Christianity in the Holy Land looking like? The history of Christianity stretches back 2,000 years and when considering the Jewish history of the Old Testament/Torah, this goes back thousands of years further. The Land of Israel has transformed many times over the millennia politically, religiously and ethnically due to the various wars, conquests, migrations, intermixing and cultural exchanges from around the Mediterranean and beyond. Christians in the Holy Land have always been a very heterogeneous group as they have come from Jewish, Greek, Arab, Sryiac/Aramean or Latin backgrounds and have traditionally spoke many languages and belonged to many different denominations belonging to the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Eastern Catholic churches. Although these groups have been placed in the same category as Christians, they have had and do have a number of disagreements and conflicts throughout history that have hindered unity and caused friction in the community, especially under the immense stress of living as an oppressed minority in their own homeland.
Some Christians of the Holy Land may consider themselves to belong to the wider pan-ethnic Arab nation, while others may reject this label and instead identify with their own denomination or another underlying identity based on the language they speak and their region of origin. In today’s video we’re going to be looking at a brief history of Christianity in the region, how it spread beyond the confines of the Jewish community to all ethnic groups of the world, the history of Christians in the region throughout the ages as well as the situation for Christians in the region of the Holy Land today, who may be Israeli, Palestinian or foreign citizens. Let me know your thoughts on the historic and current situation of Christians in the Holy Land. Thanks for watching

Funny little joke there at the end, Mr Nextime ;P
Neither the Assyrian church of the east nor the oriental orthodox church rejects the Nicene-Constantinoplitan Creed. They are what is regarded as “non-Chalcedonian” meaning they regect the dual nature of christ. The Assyrian church of the east is also “non-Ephesine” meaning they reject the virgin Mary as the mother of God but accept her as the mother of christ. Both of these churches are Nicene Christian, only the Arian church was non-Nicene as the Nicene creed was made to refute Arianism.
Real Jews aka the enslaved Israelites come from Egypt… Not Europe. The rest of are converts to Judaism.
Your Jesus was a brown Semite guy from the Middle East, who literally got killed by the money changers!
The Oriental Orthodox denominations accept the Nicene Creed. They rejected the Council of Chalcedon.
I think the Oriental Christians still have the proper sign of the cross while the (Reformed) Eastern Orthodox made up some sign that uses only the thumb and middle finger. It kinda looks like the sign for rock n roll
@@simmat6419 I don't know anyone who makes funny signs in church barring Roman Catholics, and they are barely Christian being mostly superstitious pagans.
@@Ponto-zv9vf The Eastern Orthodox make even more signs of the cross during their service than us Catholics do, adding the sacred tradition of prostration too. The Oriental Orthodox do the same, even going so far as to tattoo the cross on their wrist to remind their children to stay Christian when abducted by the Mohammedans. The Catholic church is the one, true church founded by Christ through Peter. Repent and believe in the Gospel!

As soon as I returned to the UK from my first (and hopefully not last) pilgrimage to the Holy Land, I put myself forward as a volunteer for a charity supporting Christians in the region. I would go to churches of different denominations raising awareness and collecting donations. The response I got was really incredible. It just goes to show if more Christians around the world understood what was actually going on in the Holy Land (I really had no idea before I went) then it would be something they take extremely seriously and would become a central issue for the worldwide Christian community (obviously sadly there will be those for different reasons who couldn’t care less about the problems facing our brothers and sisters in the land where our faith was born…)
Arab Christians in Israel are actually one of the most educated groups in the entire world. (By degrees per capita).
There used to be more in Palestine, but facing discrimination, they moved to Israel. Where the majority now lives. It's good they're alive, sucks having to leave their homes, though...

No mention of 1948 and its devastating impact on the population of christians in the holy land. The Christian community was disproportionately impacted by the establishment of the Israeli state, both as a result of expulsion, and in terms of lands seized.
I can mention that in order to distinguish the Muslim Arabs, the Christian Arabs were allowed to return, because they are richer and with this Israel gained the support of the West. This is precisely why Christians suffered less than Muslim counterpart but they where more important For developing united palestine identity becouse they have connections with western thought whose included nationalism what muslims where kinda suspecious.

So the western catholics don't all use the latin rite (mozarabic and ambrosia rites aswell as some order's own rites) and the eastern catholic churches are not Ethno-churches but rather the church that grew up in those groups. A nonmember of those ethnic groups can go to those churches.
Palestinian Christians do suffer from constant discrimination by the Muslims Arabs, especially in Gaza. Most ancient Christian cities are now islamised and Palestinian Muslims even had problems with the Christmas tree on display last Christmas. Israel on the other hand has many huge vibrant churches and a huge thriving Christian community that's in the much better state then the constantly abused pali Christians
The constantly abused Christians founded palstainian armed groups like palstainian liberation front that is still active in gaza now lol
Palestinian Christians are treated the same as Palestinian Muslims by Israel! They suffer restrictions all the same. In recent years, Palestinian Christians have been prevented from attending churches beyond the wall. The Christian population in Bethlehem and Nazareth decreased sharply with the creation of Israel. We aren't allowed to talk about how Israel stole Palestinian Christian land and in some cases murdered the Christians living in them (Al-Bassa massacre with the murder of Melkties). Israel saw the Christians there as Arab and treated them all the same. You can find videos on TH-cam of the way Israeli Christians get mistreated by Israelis. Nuns being spit at, people urinating on church property. The situation is far more complex than 'Jews good, Muslims bad'.
Yeah thats why a Palestinian-American Christian journalist was shot by Israel, right? And thats why her funeral was attended for by Christians and Muslims? Thats why George habash a Palestinian christian dedicated his life in Fighting Israel, not because they killed his sister in the Nakba but because of the DAMN MUZLOMS! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
The Christmas tree has German pagan roots so I can understand why

5. Cultures of micronations, both independent and sovereign ones, as well as the new age de-facto ones. (With the latter, state how their projects are creating the potential cultures there,
not that there has been a solid ethnic group there since the start.)
6. Hypothetical future of ethnicity and genetics on colonies on other celestial objects?

11. Ambazonia, Biafra, the Cabinda
12. West Papua, Bougainville, French Polynesia, New Caledonia
13. Khalistan and Punjab

"They weren't the first"
Rabbinic Judaism came after Christianity.
True but we still aren't the first
Rabbinic Judaism was there before Catholicism - so what? It's the same people with extra laws and changes added to the same faith during the 2nd to 4th century, at it's core it's the same religion, and people. Separating Rabbinic and second Temple period is like separating between early Christianity, Orthodoxy and Catholicism.
@@eidorm.7953 It's a little bit more complicated than that.
Judaism central place of worship was the Temple. It's central governing authority was the Sanhedrin. Both ceased to exist after the 2nd Temple was destroyed. A whole bunch of Rabbis had to essentially reform the religion adding rules and laws because they no longer had their place of worship nor their leaders.
Imagine if suddenly in the Catholic Church, if the Pope, and all the bishops suddenly disappeared, and none were to replace them. All you had left were the Priests and Deacons. You would probably presume that the Church would function very differently than previously correct?
That's the same with Rabbinic Judaism. It's functions and has evolved very differently than 2nd Temple Judaism.

The future of Christian civilization in the Holy Land, depends on if Palestine gets to become a free country finally.
In the future, if this happens, Palestine will become either 2/5ths or 1/3rd Christian within the next 100 years... not counting the supposed "Christian Arab Revival" that's been rumored to be brewing up. Especially if this conflict FINALLY ends and the region's governments all become peaceful, only dealing with terrorist groups and not each other anymore... allowing for pop culture and modern ideas to finally be the focus of the youth in Arab and Muslim countries.
Christianity will go there. And it will be a world where eventually even Jews will be free and open to travel one day. This is a great future for all religions, ethnicities, and people.

That is less likely. His socio-political ideas fitted for most Galilee Jews at the time, and Nazareth is very close.
@user-sh3cf7kd6e He was raised and lived in Nazareth most of his life by all biblical and historical accounts, that is not what is being argued.
I have been trying to get a handle on exactly what the difference between the eastern churches my whole life, some the uniate groups acknowledge Rome but others dont. Its super confusing
The Eastern Churches are the original Christians, the Latins broke off from them. The Pope is just a bishop, he isn't special. Mr Borgia was a Pope, nice fellow?

The Catholic Faith is the true Faith. From a Byzantine Catholic.
@@AlexanderTheFarmer I'm a Roman Catholic myself. So Byzantine Catholic. Is that what's known as a Uniate Church. If that is in any way insulting ,I apologize, it isn't meant to be.

there is no such thing as abrahamic faiths he only had one faith which is fulfilled in orthodoxy
According to legend, Abraham's father was a polytheist and had lots of idols.
Yes, there most certanily is.
Jewish = 1st abrahamic religion.
Christian (Catholic) = 2nd abrahamic religion.
Muslim = 3rd abrahamic religion
Orthodox = 4th abrahamic religion
Protestants = 5th-1000th abrahamic religion
What are you talking about? This supposed to be the Christians in their own land of Palestine. Just bad video
He talks about the bad Christians supporting Netanyahu's genocidal far right government and the good Christians who are against the tyrannical far right government of Netanyahu. Did you know Netanyahu funded Hamas? see Last week tonight with John Oliver. This good video yo.
