Love it or hate it, this performance is the essence of this man. Eric Burdon is a prodigy much in the way Stevie Winwood is. He sang this song when he was much younger and from that video he looks like he's seen the world already, thus he embodied the song... This performance shows the song now embodying HIM. Most were high back in the 1960/1970s.
Eric reminds me a bit of Robert Plant in that each time he sang a song it was a bit different.
Loved his music since I first heard back in the mid 1960s
he seems so high. the only time he has his eyes open looks like a new born child opening his eyes for the first time... love it !

Burdon 's voice sounds great, I must admit that I am NO fan of all the "musical gymnastics" that are in this video. Meaning how all the instruments are played like each band member wants to show just how good they can play. I like the plain ole version like the original old video is. Straight and to the point is best. Burdon is good looking here.

They all are at different points in the song. That's the beautiful thing. A good musician can be performing a song and just run with it. A great band can do it together and make improvisation sound planned.

IT WAS PERFECT IN THE 60`S. THEY RECORDED IT IN FOUR HOURS. HOWEVER ERIC WANTED TO CHANGE IT UP THRU THE YEARS FOR A LOT OF REASONS. FOR ONE REASON HE NEVER WAS PAID FOR THE SONG OR THE ROYALTIES THROUGH THE YEARS. HIS VOCALS AND HIS ARRANGEMENT IS WHAT MADE THE SONG SO GOOD TOO AND TO NEVER GET WHAT HE DESERVED PERFORMING IT SUCKED. ALAN PRICE GOT IT ALL. IT WAS A FLUKE THING. WHEN THEY MADE IT AND HAD TO SIGN THE PAPERWORK THERE WAS ONLY ROOM FOR ONE SIGNATURE AND THEIR MANAGER PICKED ALAN BECAUSE HE DID THE ALPHABETICAL ORDER WAY NEVER THINKING THEY COULDN`T TRUST HIM AND THEY COULDN`T.
