      Great instructional video. I have a 2019 Ford edge; the engine looks a little different than the one in this video. I have had to fill the coolant reservoir twice in the last couple of months with no apparent leaks anywhere I'm guessing it might be the head gasket. Any advice? Thank you.

      I keep reading about carbon build on a direct injection engine. All brands that use it have carbon built up on the valve stems and surrounding areas. VW had a severe problem with it in the mid 2000's. How bad was the carbon built up (intake) on this low mileage motor? Curious because my 2018 Edge has 63,000 miles. I believe Ford has created a problem that can only be fixed by replacing the engine with the new design (2019 model and newer). There is a class action lawsuit against Ford pertaining to this problem. Been wrenching for 50 years (mostly my stuff) and I would bet that all these engines (2015-2018 2 liter) are going to fail prematurely, it is just a matter of time. Reminds of my explorer sport with a german engine, what a pos. Same thing, head gasket failure at 43,000 miles and out of warranty.

    • @NiXFiX
      @NiXFiX  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kawadude all direct injection engines get carbon build up. Traditionally injected engines inject fuel behind the valves, thus, the gas cleans the valves. With direct injection, carbon isn't cleaned and builds up. Doesn't matter the make, it's inherent to the design.

    Hello, Ford Escape 2.0L ecobost 2017, on the intake and exhaust vvt sprockets, do they have safety washers? Those that go between the camshaft and the vvt sprocket are safety washers so that there is good grip, which are used in the land rover 2.0L and the mazda cx7. DOES THE FORD ESCAPE 2.0L have that washer?

      @NiXFiX  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@TheCasperoso no. Not normal. Do you notice/feel a misfire? If not, clear code and see if it comes back in week. If you do feel misfire, might want to compression check cylinder. Should be over 120psi. If that is good, swap the cylinder 2 coil pack for cylinder one and see if you now get p0301. If so, coil pack is bad. Also a chance the plug is fouled out.

    Thanks for the great video, just the right amount of info for me (not too much, not too little!). Did you use an OEM head gasket or aftermarket? Any issues since the replacement? I heard a lot of times the head is warped or the block is cracked so the new gasket doesn't always fix the issue? I'm thinking the same as you, I don't mind spending a weekend replacing the head gasket if it gets me another 50,000+ miles before it goes again. The current one lasted 120,000 miles.

    • @NiXFiX
      @NiXFiX  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you for the kind words. Yes I used an OEM head gasket. Heads don't typically warp unless you over heat an engine. The reason these head gaskets fail is because of the block design. I sold this vehicle awhile ago, so I can't give you any further data.

When mine goes and it surely will, I have no desire to do what you did in these videos. I have no understanding why engineers would design an engine with sprockets to be installed on any kind of smooth shaft without a jetway and key. Ha. Where are you located? Do you do this for pay? Could be turbo blow by. Could be valve seals. Could be rings (but less likely in my opinion). So I assume you used a borescope and saw the oil? If you did, run the engine to operating temp. Then pull a plug and look in. If dry, wait 12 hours, then look again. If oil, likely valve seals.

Since then I’ve put over 2k miles on the car and it’s held up fine. I only wish I had replaced the timing chain along with it…
      Your advice was awesome. FORD wanted close to 10k for this and it cost me around $300.00. I changed the water pump and switched to a cast aluminum thermostat housing while I was down there.

      A (redesigned) short block replacement is the best solution to eliminate the problem. But, a $40 head gasket (if you can do it yourself like I did in 15 hours) wins every time. Did you have to plane the head??

    • @NiXFiX
      @NiXFiX  ปีที่แล้ว

      No. I typically don't resurface heads unless I am also resurfacing the block (especially if it was an overheat condition and the head warped but is still within spec. This is because the block probably warped a little as well and having a slightly warped block and perfect head would be bad. If it overheated and they're still in spec, they'll match better going right back together). Just hand clean the surfaces with a blade and some solvent/brake cleaner.

      You're not wrong. But a less than $60 head gasket to get another 60,000 miles out of is vs. buying a whole long block wins every day.

  • @jwhite601

    this engine has a block flaw design....those slits in the head are never gonna let a head gasket live....lot of work for a motor to live another 30k miles.

    • @NiXFiX
      @NiXFiX  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yes. I explain that in the video. Also, the slits are in the block, not the head. 15 hours of work isn't much time for another 60,000 miles in my opinion. But, you're not wrong. Shouldn't be this way.
