    “Beware of destination addiction” wow I absolutely needed to hear this. Remember that 99 perfect of getting to the goal is the journey. This is such a beautiful way of thinking and in a world obsessed with hustle culture it’s a great way to recenter the mind and enjoy the small moments 💜

    I watched this video last night and already forgot what the 5 habits were so I'm back to rewatch and make a note for myself.
    1. Enjoy the journey - we spend more time climbing up during the hike than we do enjoying the view at the top so why not enjoy the entire journey.
    2. Mind your response in situations, it is the only thing you can control to influence the outcome of things. - perception determines how we feel
    3. Swap out words with negative meanings to words with positive meanings. The words you use can influence how you feel. We tend to vent about our frustrations and use negative words in the process. Then when we are alone, those same word choices are made, the effect can compound. Get in the habit of expressing things with more positivity, gratitude, hope, excitement, etc.
    4. Comparison is the thief of joy. Comparison seems to be a natural human response so don't feel bad about doing it, just be mindful of it. Remember that we know 100% of our own lives, all the good and all the bad but we only see what other people want us to see about theirs.
    5. Tend to your emotional wounds as much as you would a physical wound.

    When my mother was alive, I would stay with her two evenings a week while the sibling who lived with her worked. If a friend asked if I'd like to go out on one of those evenings, my response would be, "I have to watch my mother." I am beyond grateful that I finally caught on to how I was phrasing my answer, and changed it to, "I get to spend time with my mom that evening."
    I loved her, and I was talking as though spending time with her was a burden. She died a couple of years ago and I long for the times when I was able to spend time with her.

    "There's nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." - That is so truee, it all starts with ourselves and our own perceptions of things.

    • @GS-lq2is
      @GS-lq2is 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I couldn’t disagree more. Losing a loved one, for example, is bad-that’s not the fault of your perception. Life involves some crappy stuff sometimes.

    • @KateViko
      @KateViko 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@GS-lq2is Sorry if you are experiencing something like that in your life right now. Unfortunately there're a lot of things we can't control, but what we can control is our mind.

    • @Ella.L.
      @Ella.L. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Idk... that mindset seems kinda toxic to me. Sure, not everything is black or white. But things like war, hunger, rape, etc.? These are entirely bad things, no matter how much you try to think otherwise. Is that really what you want to say to people who experienced such things, to simply change their perspective on things? That's BS.

    • @GS-lq2is
      @GS-lq2is 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@KateViko Thanks, I’m not at the moment. My issue is with the concept-for example, do you think that Jews in concentration camps should just have changed their perspective and then everything would have been fine?
      I’m not trying to argue with you per se, but I believe this is a pernicious attitude in western culture. I admit I haven’t read it yet, but Barbara Ehrenrich’s book, Bright-Sided, apparently explores this subject quite a bit.

    Another helpful thought pattern shift is saying "I could" or "I get to" instead of "I have to." I think it was mentioned in another PUL video. "I have to do laundry" vs. "I could do laundry" and "I have to exercise" vs. "I get to exercise" have made a world of a difference in my life.

      Hello, I just wanted to add to this great advice. I replace it with, “I can”. Little tip from my therapist; saying, “I can” instead of “have to”, “need to”, “should” helps empower you. My mother is abusive and made me feel incapable of things so I struggle with that. Saying I can do something makes me sound capable of doing it and more likely to do things and feel good about it. It also helps with low motivation. The more you do the more capable you feel and therefore the more capable and confident you become.
      Thank you for sharing your tips!

    The mindest is seriously so important, I personally started studying last summer and I never really liked the people in my semester. I just don‘t like the vibe and didn‘t make a lot of friends here. It really lowered my motivation o study and attempt the classes. Yesterday I started looking around and began to think about a positive thing for each person in the room (like „I like her outfit“ or „he actually seems very chill and relaxed“ stuff like that) and it just makes a huge difference and I suddenly don‘t feel that lonely anymore when sitting in a class

    Hi Sadia. I just wanted to say. My lovely wifey and I went plant based 4 years ago. We're still experimenting with recipes and flavours and combo's of things, with mixed success. But your dishes have been a total godsend. You single handedly changed the way I made oats for 30 years!!! Yes, this is a good thing. So I just wanted to share, let you know that this ex South African and ex Japanese lady both adore your work and your content and your recipes. You rock. All the best. Big hug.

    I really needed to hear this, especially about E + R = O since it's most often this pattern that changes my mood to something negative. Perfect timing! And thank YOU for sharing about your own anxiety ❤🧡💛

    The Power of Now & The Four Agreements are good reading materials to help those needing to be mindful/staying in the moment and to let go of the negative thoughts and spiraling over what could’ve been or what could be. Thank you for this share. I was just speaking with someone about this topic a few hours ago. Definitely resonates with me.

    I really needed this video today! I've been wondering these same questions for the last few weeks. I've been feeling lots of autocriticism, lost, and somehow aimless. "Beware of destination addiction". Thank you for your positive mindset, and making me feel less alone in this journey. Greetings from Spain!!

    I'm so glad I found your video just now. I've been looking to make changes in my life and as I'm working towards those changes I'm also feeling so much anxiety, fear, and doubt. I even wondered if I should just stay put where I'm at even though it's been making me so sad and frustrated. But your video has helped me realized that I am doing the right thing for myself and I just need to continue with my journey and not be afraid. Thank you ❤

    Thank you so much for talking about how we are often too focused on the destination. I am reminded now to reflect on my journeys in the past and be proud of where I am now. Today we are often so focused on these fleeting moments of success and then those moments go away. I forget that my past self would be thrilled to see where I am now!!!

    Thank you for doing those kinds of videos. I've been having a hard time and I decided to do a spring cleaning of my mind this year, not just a spring cleaning of my apartment. I've been making a list of daily things I can do to take care of my mind and body, and ways to add more daily joy in my life. I appreciate this video!
