I sold my 2003 C class last year after 9 years of trouble free motoring and bought a Nissan Juke because my wife wanted one. The worst decision I ever made car wise, especially when the Mercs new owner keeps contacting me to inform me how brilliant it is.The Juke will be sold next year and replaced by a Mercedes C class, similar age and spec to this one so as to regain my sanity.
I did it, I could stand the Juke no more, with just 16,000 miles on the clock it had a new CVT transmission fitted (under warranty) so it went, I took a hit financially but that was OK I hated it so much! Now a 2017 C Class 220D, AMG line premium, sits on my drive and my sanity is restored :)
I'm sniffing around a random 2004 model with 180,000 miles onto it.. It looks Worn inside ... and outside... but the lack of corrosion is insane! Apart from the slightly less powerful version of the motor, would this video be telling me most of what I need to know.. (electrionic flim flam aside also)??
As a taxi driver I have had 3 C class, 1 saloon and 2 estates. All manual. All grafted well. Boot was a bit small on the saloon. Helps running costs if you stay away from main dealers and find yourself a good mechanic. I loved them, but in the end turned to the dark side and bought a skoda.
Having had this version in a 250d (201bhp) I’d say it was possibly one of my favourite cars ever. These are also so much better built than the 3 series of the same era!
Got a 64 plate C250 and having to change it due to low emissions regs that came this year and will be extended in 2020. Not happy. Really enjoyable car!
I've got an estate version of the w204 chassis. It's got the 3.0 V6 cdi engine and I love it! I've had to deal with cleaning the dpf once and prior to that I've had to do the oil cooler seals. A good car to be in. Indeed the 3 series looks sportier and the a4 is a bit more elegant but this car hits the perfect balance between sportiness, elegance, practicality.
Bought the 250 cdi coupe a few month ago and fell totally in love with it such a beautiful car to drive and looks fantastic. It is so well suited for long journeys
Agreed, I just bought a 2013 estate c250 amg etc. Bought it down in Gloucester and drove it back to Glasgow. Most enjoyable drive I've ever had. Phenomenal cars
I have a 2008 c class sport for over a year. 150k on the clock. It has every toy you could want. Full leather! Absolutely everything. It cost me £2500 and it's going strong! Brilliant car.
I had 2010 220 C Class estate. It was maintained from new by Mercedes main dealer but the timing chain tensioner broke causing over £4000 worth of damage and no help from Mercedes. I would never buy another as there are many cheaper cars which are just as well made.
Bought my 2015 C250d with 23k mile back in May this year and love it. It feels solid and well planted. I drive approx 25 miles to work on a mix of B roads and motorway and it enjoys both. This weekend we have driven from South Somerset to Cumbria to visit family and it hasn’t missed a beat. It happily sat on cruise around the speed limit, but had the power to clear the idiots when needed. I think it is under estimated when sitting at the lights and takes the boy racers by surprise. The large doors can be a bit if a pain in a tight car park when you get an idiot who can’t park pick the spot beside you.
Just bought a 66 plate C220d AMG Line Premium yesterday, in Obsidian Black, 19 inch alloys, it looks the absolute bollocks, let's hope it serves me well! Great video.
I rented a Merc 220d for a week when my 22 year old car was being fixed. It was the newer model with the stick-on iPad in the dash. All the blanks instead of switches really gave it that "entry level feeling rather than "I've arrived". So glad to get my old car back.
This shape was the essence of merc coupe for me. Although the new one was different and now everywhere and makes this one look old hat this one still reeks of class the way the original clk did. Shame that down south especially south east london these are or were the roadmans car of choice in peckynarm devaluing it greatly. I hated with a passion the revised ones 63 on with the newer alloys this with these rims is perfection. Theres a midnight blue petrol 350 down near the riverfront in gravesend opposite tilbury. Cream interior simply sensational. Stare at it everytime im that way.
I owned this model for nearly 5 years. Really reliable and manual gearbox was actually ok. MPG exactly as stated, 40+ in town, 55+ on motorway. I really enjoyed it and would have kept it but for impending ULEZ zone in Glasgow from Jan 2022.
I’ve had a c220 CDI black Premium Plus model for 5 years and trading it in tomorrow for a one year old BMW 4 series, with a bit of a heavy heart. Bought the Mercedes with 14k on the clock and have done 68k miles in it. It is the best car I have ever owned, an absolute pleasure to drive and never had an issue with it. It made the Glasgow - Edinburgh M8 commute so much easier, as well as a comfortable drive in all weather. Beautiful car, highly recommend and will miss my sunroof! Decided against upgrading to the new C-class coupe as they are dreadfully overpriced and just not appealing to me. P.S great review once again!
Just picked up a 2011 C220 CDI AMG Estate. Best thing is the becker sat nav unit can be replaced with a wireless car play/android auto receiver for £150!
Nice review man, I got a 2012 C350 Coupe in the same colour as yours, the m276 engine is amazing and super reliable, it's quite powerful and fun to drive. It's not the most exciting car but I think it stands out from the second-hand cars in the same year and similar price easily.
As a huge Mercedes fan I can confirm that they are always slow to add “ fads” to their cars . For years you could not buy an S or SL with a cup holder 😊They held onto the foot operated handbrake in some cars until 2014 . As for the seats, it’s a Mercedes it’s not meant to go fast and grip you, it’s supposed to waft to the speed limit and keep you comfortable whilst doing so. If I ever pass in my 1990 S class I will take you for a spin and you can experience fully sprung horse hair seats, Marvellous!
I have 2017 CLS 550 and it has the foot operated handbrake. The 2014 E550 I owned before had the same handbrake system as well. So yea, MB loves their bloody foot operated handbrake LOL.. Cheers from Canada.
When I drove my dads Merc 190 for the first time in 1980s.....it reminded me of an entirely different car....the Peugeot 403. That was because the nose was so far ahead of the wheelbase it described an arc all of its own compared with modern " wheel at each corner " designs when you went round a bend or did a three point turn. It felt.....well...vintage really. I loved driving it by the way. It was well made and sedate and a nice place to be.
Even if the car is dull I still watch these for the therapeutic countryside views and dulcet tones. Never disappointed. And my wife says I am now more helpful around the house, apparently.
Got one of these atm, exact same spec (apart from mine is tenorite grey) and I absolutely love it. Got a problem with the parking brake sticking though .... good thing I’ve got warranty
I had the 250d AMG line for a year. Absolutely loved it. And even though it's a diesel, on wet roundabouts, I could still see full opposite lock on the occasional slip and slide. The E250d coupe I had after was a little more sensible and designed more for comfort over the C. I miss the smart lights. Don't forget the auto dimming full beam. Good review!
Definitely buy one if you looking for a classy car with great interior and comfy drive under £10k. I've got a silver c250 coupe petrol, pan roof fully speced with heated seats, stage one remap 260bhp. Love it!
I own the 2014 C250 CDI AMG Sport with 200 HP and 500NM and find that I run the transmission in sport and the suspension in dynamic mode and it handles much better. With the glass roof and huge sunroof it looks great. Head room fairly tight in the front with the glass roof so you have to recline the seats a fair bit. Built in 10 GB hard drive holds a huge number of songs and audio books for long drives. On the motorway it gets around 4.3L/100km (65MPG) according to the built in system but around town I drive it pretty hard and get about 25 MPG. Great car but engine a bit noisy and seats can be a bit hard on a long drive. Goes through front brakes and rotors quickly too, and they can squeal a lot.
Test drove one long time ago . Lifeless with a tractor engine for a "premium badge" and expensive servicing . I then bought a three series. Great review as usual. You might get some new shoes sent to you by Clarks !!.
I had a 2010 C-class sedan C-200 CGI and I loved that car - It just did everything right, it looked right (still had the classic Merc front grille with the star 'gunsight' on top and not the modern vulgar 3-bar star in the middle version) which gave it serious gravitas, expecially since it was black - It had plenty of power and a beautiful and functional 'Elegance' interior (wooden trim without all the bling and nonsense of current models), and it felt solid, was very reliable, frugal on consumption and an utter pleasure to drive - Pity they don't make them like that anymore.
My first C class was a lemon, randomly cutting out while driving ( necessitating a restart while not being able to stop), the garage swapped it out for another and had no problems. Now looking to get a new GLC
Top tip... swop out the allen screws holding in the DRLs for security screws. Why these would not be standard is beyond me. Each DRL takes about 30 seconds to remove, and is around £200 to replace. I speak from bitter experience.
Yes you should buy one, i had one of these in 4 door. Not exciting as you say, but drives nicely, and very good on fuel on a run. manuf mpg on a run 65-72mpg easily. Expensive to service with main dealer, an oil change service was £250. i.kid.you.not. would love to have another one
I’ve had a 2008 C350 for many years now, 148,000 miles and it’s been wonderful. All I’ve done is regular maintenance, and I’ve had to replace the alternator. I can see myself in this car another 50k miles at least.
A gentleman who goes to my gym, drives one of these, in black. Very attractive vehicle. C-Class coupes are rare, here in the states, which makes them kind of exotic.
Spot-on review, as always. I have a 250 2011 model, and like you say, its solid, but a little unexciting. Looking to move on to a Range Rover L322, watched your videos on it. I worry about what kind of issues I will inherit with it, given the Merc has been mostly trouble free. But I feel like Range Rover drivers are in on a big secret. They enjoy the best car around, while everyone else is worried about its reliability. So I will be going for it. YOLO!
I have been running a C class coupe for 12 years and do not consider it boring at all. A lovely car with everything I want on it and totally trouble free....and delightfully analogue !
Hi Matt, before the X358 Jaaag I had a CLK270 cdi and enjoyed it very much. It was incredibly good on fuel but a little bit crude engine noise wise. Bought it for 1500 and sold it a year later for 2500 so great ownership experience.
I've owned a C-class S205 (Estate) 220cdi AMG Sport plus since new in 2012 and it's now 10 years old / 120k miles up. Apart from consumables , servicing etc , the only unexpected thing thing to go wrong was the clock spring which busted at 90k miles. The main dealer wanted £600 to replace it but my local indy Merc dealer was able to locate a 2nd hand item for me for £90 and fitted and coded it for me for £100 - it regularly gives me 60mpg on a run and will usually average 44-48mpg between tank fills.
@@HighPeakAutos The car was awesome.Yes that diesel engine is a little noisy but the 201 bhp were wonderful. Also even back in 2012 they could have made it look better a little better.Got myself a Mazda CX5 2.2 diesel turbo now.Very happy with it.
Mercedes UK are cunts, they've decided UK customers can't have the classic star unless you buy the S Class. If you really really wanted the star on the bonnet on a C or E class, you could import to the UK an Irish or Seth Efrican RHD model which have the classic star in tact.
@@HighPeakAutos Oh cheers mate! They've also got those cool drop down back windows too. Right, all I've got to decide now is do I go nuts and buy the 3.5 ltr petrol!
I’m glad you’ve done the video on this as I was looking at it on your auto trader and looking to possibly buy it if it’s still around in a few weeks :)
I've owned what they call a poverty speck SE, s204 estate for three years and I can't fault it. It's hard to find something to replace it with, apart from an s205.
woot! about time you put up a new video, what have you been doing since?!! another splendid review, it's like me sitting in the passenger side enjoying the talking points.
Had my 13 plate 180 coupe now for 4 months and already driven over 10000 miles. It’s is a real good car for the price they go for now. Don’t even think just buy!
@@abdula7745 I drive a lot in a town and on the motorways my average sits around 22-27 mpg. On the motorway it's fantastic, built for cruising on long journeys.
@@LAZALOF thanks, mine is mostly town driving so average is about 22.5mpg . i don’t even drive it hard, i was shocked with the mpg. do you know if doing a Stage 1 tune makes the economy better?
@@abdula7745 Yes I agree town driving was a bit os a surprise when I got it, but I think the engine size and the weight of the car really impact it, Reagrding the tuning im not sure? But if you find out let me know!
I miss my old c250d coupe. I’m in a BMW now, whilst I like that can’t help but think that I will be going back to Mercedes for my next car. C43 please.
what bmw do you have? I bought a 5 series after a rude salesman pissed me off trying this car.... still prefer the mercedes interior but the bmw is really a joy to drive.... i just dont like germans , they are made to cost you to maintain... wish lexus had more attractive alternatives.
@@thepro08 I have a 420d gran coupe now. It drives nice comfort and practicality is nice, the other half has a 240i convertible and that is unreal so won’t need c43… for now! Servicing on both is cheaper than the Mercedes.
I've just bought a manual version c250d.. did want a auto but didn't want to spend another 1000. Got this one at a very very good price. 12 plate 115k 5k! Amazing value and it the same spec as this car same wheels, black, xenon, full leather. I'm a bmw person but this feel nice.
Love the comment, never got kickers, always got shite,.....but managed to get a pair of addidas samba, in the 5th year....(after saving up).....and treating my self...lol.😂😂
A great review, i have a Mercedes confession though, i once owned a C180 with cloth seats & wait for it................ a manual gearbox!!! it was awful, i will never make that mistake again.
Matt I've got this 2.1 Diesel engine in my E Class and its amazingly economical and with annual servicing you get the benefit of lifelong RAC Breakdown cover with Mercedes. Its ultra-reliable and surprisingly refined on UK A & B roads.
@@ln5747 servicing at main dealers is for people who have no clue. Extortionately over priced so yes it's an expensive way to get breakdown cover. You could service independently and get breakdown seperately and save a fortune
@@pauldavison7105 not necessarily. Main dealers can often be reasonably priced and not everyone wants to go to an independent for various reasons. And not everyone has a good independent specialist near to them. You under-estimate others decision making and over estimate your own, evidently.
@@ln5747 not underestimating anyone's decision making. Was just making the point there are better ways than throwing money away. ANY garage can service your car using correct parts it doesn't need to be a specialist. I just don't understand people who think a dealer in some way gives a better service or a more valuable service history. It's simply not the case
I’ve had my C Coupe for 5 years and still love it... I went for C250 petrol... very quite engine and as a bonus it had DAB, Online command (full Satnav) and heated leathers....

R Bousfield I agree! Mercedes certainly know how to charge. I always go to a specialist instead
I must say, you give a very good professional review! Cheers!
Thanks!
Great review on a car I've always been a bit curious about
"Is that a c63? "
*Nah thats a KS63 FAM!* 01:41
I like the C36, C43 and C55 from the late 90s. CLK equivalents from that era are a nice design too!
Me too
great review super informative
Glad it was helpful!
W204 C63 AMG 4door would be awesome to see here!
I’ve had a 2008 C350 for many years now, 148,000 miles and it’s been wonderful. All I’ve done is regular maintenance, and I’ve had to replace the alternator.
I can see myself in this car another 50k miles at least.
Pleased to hear it. You've got a good one there
How much miles has it hit now?
Your references are so funny. It is like a Clarks shoe you are right!
Hi Matt, before the X358 Jaaag I had a CLK270 cdi and enjoyed it very much. It was incredibly good on fuel but a little bit crude engine noise wise. Bought it for 1500 and sold it a year later for 2500 so great ownership experience.
Haha thats a good years motoring! :)
I had the coupe 270cdi bags of torque Brilliant car and the mpg was amazing for a 5 pot. Looking at the w204 coupe now.
I had exact same, with pan roof 12 plate
Problems
Blower motor regulator.
Dpf pressue sensor.
Boost pipe
I've owned a C-class S205 (Estate) 220cdi AMG Sport plus since new in 2012 and it's now 10 years old / 120k miles up. Apart from consumables , servicing etc , the only unexpected thing thing to go wrong was the clock spring which busted at 90k miles. The main dealer wanted £600 to replace it but my local indy Merc dealer was able to locate a 2nd hand item for me for £90 and fitted and coded it for me for £100 - it regularly gives me 60mpg on a run and will usually average 44-48mpg between tank fills.
I work for a certain 'comfortable shoe' company, there are quite a few C classes in the car park (of all ages). You might be on to something here!
Hahaha thats funny
Always fun to watch your reviews, "sensible shoes" and all :)
Thanks for watching :)
Owned a c250 cdi 2012.Loved it and 201 bhp was useful.Had to let it go because my back cant take the low seating anymore my back aches.
johnny wires They’re pretty good aren’t they
Buy a grey qashqai
Haha don't
@@HighPeakAutos The car was awesome.Yes that diesel engine is a little noisy but the 201 bhp were wonderful. Also even back in 2012 they could have made it look better a little better.Got myself a Mazda CX5 2.2 diesel turbo now.Very happy with it.
@@EinkOLED Got a Mazda CX5 mate.Try it it aint bad.
No handbrake button, there is a hold function on the footbrake for this model.
I have one and I love it ... I love it so much. I would not change it for an Audi or BMW ever.
Good choice
@@HighPeakAutos compared to yours I don t have leather seats and xenon lights, but I do have tinted rear windows and aluminium trim
Nice clean car, I hate the fact MB deleted the star off the bonnet. Sad I know but that's the only reason I lusted after one.
Rob Ajob They still have them in the bigger models. I like them too
Mercedes UK are cunts, they've decided UK customers can't have the classic star unless you buy the S Class. If you really really wanted the star on the bonnet on a C or E class, you could import to the UK an Irish or Seth Efrican RHD model which have the classic star in tact.
On the early C class 08- you can get an SE model or classic with the bonnet ornament
Buy a star off Ebay about 25 quid easy to fit
The C350 CDi (265bhp) is very good, never bored of it !
I'd love a comparison between the C Class Coupe and the E Class one (Mostly because I'm thinking of buying one themm and can't make up mind!)
I'd go for the E personally. Theres more room in the rear and the boot and they are more stylish
@@HighPeakAutos Oh cheers mate! They've also got those cool drop down back windows too. Right, all I've got to decide now is do I go nuts and buy the 3.5 ltr petrol!
Tony Schumacher Thats right. They just feel a little but more upmarket
@@HighPeakAutos Thanks mate, and keep the great work with the vids, they are superb.
I completely agree about the manual gearboxes. I have a 320 cdi 224 bhp auto box and loads of power!
I've got the c350 coupe and I'm happy with it , as you said the foot break is dated but I'm enjoying it still after 3 years of owning
Good choice!
very enjoyable as usual keep em coming
natsopa6034 thanks for watching
You are doing great! Not many good buyer advice vids on youtube and yes I follow every one of them. Thank's again and till the next one👍
Thanks for watching :)
woot! about time you put up a new video, what have you been doing since?!! another splendid review, it's like me sitting in the passenger side enjoying the talking points.
Skubee Raw haha thanks. I’d do more but my main job always gets in the way 😉
When i went to school all i had was wellington boots. Great Video.
Cheers :)
Had my 13 plate 180 coupe now for 4 months and already driven over 10000 miles. It’s is a real good car for the price they go for now. Don’t even think just buy!
What mpg did you average ?
Grey Quashkai. 😂👍 Great review as always! Your skills are way above other full time reviewers! This channel and the Grand Tour.
Haha thanks! Thanks for watching :)
Great review very professional
Love your vids
Sly Bear thank you
great reviews. subscribed to your channel
Thanks! Thanks for subscribing
Never tired looking at it n driving it. Looks better than the new version imo
Am driving the CLA AMG45 fast asf. It’s a 18 an it’s still the talk of the town ya dig!!
Always love the c class .....
I've just bought a manual version c250d.. did want a auto but didn't want to spend another 1000. Got this one at a very very good price. 12 plate 115k 5k! Amazing value and it the same spec as this car same wheels, black, xenon, full leather. I'm a bmw person but this feel nice.
Just about to take delivery of a C250 Coupe. I made sure (after listening to you) to get all the Toys!!👍
Pleased to hear it! :)
Love the comment, never got kickers, always got shite,.....but managed to get a pair of addidas samba, in the 5th year....(after saving up).....and treating my self...lol.😂😂
I bought my c class a week ago and i am loving it 😊
Pleased to hear it
A great review, i have a Mercedes confession though, i once owned a C180 with cloth seats & wait for it................ a manual gearbox!!! it was awful, i will never make that mistake again.
A mercedes shouldn't be sold with cloth and a clutch :)
Nice one bud great video
Matt I've got this 2.1 Diesel engine in my E Class and its amazingly economical and with annual servicing you get the benefit of lifelong RAC Breakdown cover with Mercedes. Its ultra-reliable and surprisingly refined on UK A & B roads.
An expensive way to get breakdown cover
@@pauldavison7105 not if you like to service your car.
Keep up the good work. Really enjoy your videos.
Thanks for watching :)
i have a C 180 from 2011 with manual transmission and 140.000 kilometre on it
I love it :)
Pleased to hear it :)
Another good video Rick
Cheers!
I’ve had my C Coupe for 5 years and still love it... I went for C250 petrol... very quite engine and as a bonus it had DAB, Online command (full Satnav) and heated leathers....
How is the fuel economy as compared to the diesel?
@@nickywickyful not sure buddy as I've never owned a diesel car in my life. But I only have to fill out twice a month.
In my last job I would travel 50 miles round trip from Heathrow to Marlow (yes in a petrol car). didn't have any issues :)
