Goodbye, Mr. Chips, starring actor Robert Donat and actress Greer Garson, was the film that - in 1939 - was nominated for seven academy awards.
This film is a romantic drama based on the novella of the same name by James Hilton. It follows Mr. Chipping, a beloved, aged school teacher at a boys boarding school, as he he recalls his career and personal life over the decades.
Robert Donat, the man whose portrayal of Mr. Chipping was nothing other than pure genius perfection, won the award for Best Actor in 1939. He beat Laurence Olivier, Clarke Gable and James Stewart.
