They should have included a perk that specifically helped Medium armor to make them more desirable. Like some "It Has Pockets!" perk where while wearing medium armor, you can fast travel while over encumbered and thrown explosives and spears/knives have no carry weight. That'd have been cool. Oh, and Stealth Suit is C tier for multiple reasons: 1. It eats stimpaks and Med-X against your will. If built around, it can become helpful, but it usually results in addiction to painkillers and no stims. 2. It's kind of a pain to upgrade all the way. It's not quite the chore that getting power armor training is, but it's second place for the most to-do for a piece of gear. 3. If it applied Med-X and stimpaks to companions, it would be the best companion armor in most situations since you could just stock them before or during a battle, but sadly it also doesn't do that without mods, either.
I can't believe that the Desert Ranger combat armor was placed below the Combat Armor Reinforced Mk 2. More DT, easier to get. A few pounds of weight isn't that critical, even in Hardcore mode. All Legion faction armors belong in D tier because 95% of the map will shoot you on sight. In fact, the Great Khans may be the only faction (other than the Legion itself) that won't. That said, Vexillarius armor is excellent for jury rigging because it can be fixed with other (light) Legion armor and it can be used to repair medium armor itself. Since Legionary assassin groups will always have a Vexillarius in them, this can pretty much keep your medium armor in shape throughout the entire game. For marked tribal armor, it has +1 strength which provides +10 carry weight so it effectively weighs 16 instead of 26. Still D-tier material due to the poor DT, but not as bad as you make it seem in my opinion. At least it's better than the marked trooper armor. Stealth Suit Mk II is super annoying. It injects Med-X when you don't need it (and causes you to become addicted more often than not) and keeps yapping/joking around. Also seems to break faster than most other armor for some reason. The effects are nice though, and it can be fun to combine it with Tunnel Runner and the implant that increases crouch speed from The Sink's Auto-Doc to essentially sneak as fast as you can run. In any case, can't deny its usefulness for a pure sneak build where you barely ever get shot at. I just wish you could tell the Sink CIU to turn off the personality of the suit like you can with the others in the Sink.
The Combat Armor Reinforced Mk2 is actually easier to get, just more expensive via its most easy method of acquisition: buying it. But yeah, the Stealth Suit Mk2 is way worse than it initially seems. Either half its functions do nothing due to not getting detected (the auto injects) or said half of its functions are for non-stealth combat which doesn't contribute to its primary stealth function.
Combat armor reinforced mark 2 also isn’t recognized as medium armor by the game and therefore gets all the bonuses from light armor associated perks. That makes it S Tier imo. Plus it’s in the base game so no dlc needed
@@ReapeeRon It is in fact true. NV-light-touch-bad-armor-list there are two missing armors. Combat armor reinforced mark 2 and lightweight metal armor from the mercenary pack dlc. If you get “travel light” you’ll move 10% faster in these armors. I think YUP fixes these errors, but base game it kind of makes these armors even more “valuable”. I wanna say itsjabo possibly has a video on it
Don’t forget, the helmets for the elite/advanced riot gear give you a bonus to perception and the elite riot gear gives you a +5 to speech along with the sneak sight, which just cements my belief that those armours are THE best armours in the game (if you aren’t doing a build that doesn’t use medium armour of course)
Certain light armors are quite a lot better for the strongest source of damage in the game, crit spam, due to Light Touch existing. Ulysses' Duster + Light Touch + 10 Luck = base 20% crit chance that with weapons with high crit chance multipliers just steamroll everything with Better Criticals constantly proccing, on top of a flat non-multiplier flat 5% crit chance with Finesse. That being said, the riot armor drip is unmatched in terms of pure fashion.
The good thing about the Van Graff armour is that once you finish the quest and they take it back, you can steal it from the chest beside the guard at the front door and it’ll stay in your inventory as a quest item so you can take it into dead money without the game taking it from you
The voice used to jump scare me if i was sneaking around somewhere and it says "Fighting initiated... just kidding", although it was such a good armour i put up with it. I'm thankful of Jury Rigging for it too
@@Corrupted I think the utter freedom of NV helps it stand the test of time. It feels like Obsidian tried their hardest to give most items a place in your inventory. @@sussinhardrn1048 absolutely, also the focus on atmosphere/writing/worldbuilding gives it a huge edge over gameplay/technical games, games like it really are timeless
Interesting fact about the Combat Armor Reinforced Mk2 is that it’s the only medium armor that I know of that isn’t a part of the list that takes away light armor perks. What this means is that you can use Light Touch, Travel Light and Tunnel Runner on it which is unique.
The riot gear has an advantage and that is that you dont have to enter the dlc to get it if you win enough money and/or sell everything you find in the base + some barter, you can get all the money to buy it and it will carry you for a pretty nice time, until you reach the point where you are strong enough to go to the dlc and get the better ones You can actually get it level 1 with some luck
If you guys wanna know how to find a set of Ranger Combat Armor early is to do NCR quests until you're liked by them, and then speak to Colonel Shu in McCarran. He'll give you the key to a place called the Ranger Safehouse, which isn't far south of Repconn HQ. The set in there is very low condition, but if you also get Jury Rigging, it's easy to maintain!
Putting the Desert Ranger Combat Armor into B tier just hurt my soul... I always wear it through my playthroughs since I crank my guns up to 100 anyway
I love all of the flavors of Riot Gear. Sometimes I'll use the advanced instead of the elite, because a point of endurance is usually more useful than a point of charisma. Other than that, if I have enough luck to break the bank at the strip casinos, I'll usually buy the mark 2 reinforced combat armor from the gun runners and just use that until I go to the DLCs.
I've always been partial to the regular combat armor. The simple green camo design and wearing a bandana or head wrap with biker goggles. That's usually my fit for a playthrough but I do like the desert ranger's armor and the marked men had some cool armors imo.
The fact that I come back to this game every so often after 14 years and it's still getting fresh content on yt is so great. It's still useful content as well 😂
Sadly the one thing that sucks about the riot gear helmets is that they're marked as heavy armour, so even with jury rigging they can be a bitch to repair since the only things thay can fix them are other riot gear helmets or metal armours, or fixing them with Raul or the Sink (but it's expensive as shit if really low condition).
@@michaelm.2736 that's one downside that's suuuuuper easy to deal with: Jury Rigging+buy cheap low condition heavy armor OR go kill some raiders (Jackals and Vipers mostly) who wear Heavy Armor for repairs
@@snakejesus That is pretty much the best way to fix those, since paying for the repairs usually isn't worth dumping that many caps into it, so keeping a couple Metal Armours on standby in the Lucky 38 is the way to go for that, yes. Just kind of annoying since no other headgear does that, and even the other Ranger Helmets which are very similar are still marked as Light Armour, so it just kind of sucks that those helmets are the only one you have to do that for.
Considering you can get a suit of sexy black combat armor from the sacked caravans almost immediately after getting past the 188, combat armor is S tier in my book.
endgame armors that give skill points are best for builds that aren't putting points into that skill to begin with. if you're building towards explosives, explosives is probably going to be one of the first skills you max out, so a +10 explosives ironically isn't that useful. what makes +10 explosives good is that it's not usually your primary combat skill, so it's useful that it puts points into something you wouldn't normally have maxed out for most of the game.
Just a note, the 20% move speed is stated not to happen due to a bug. The other bonuses work as expected for the MK2 stealth suit, and it's kind of awesome. That being said, the Elite Riot Gear is fantastic, but the helmet being not classed as a helmet leads to some funky results though
If you pick the lock on the crate next to the silver rush you get the van graff combat armor as a quest item so you can take it into dead money and it weighs nothing as well
Every set of Legion Armor is D tier, because the entire map hates you while wearing it. It's also not good for sneaking around Legion territory either, since they have a lot of guards (who see right through your disguise)
The stealth suit is either an A or S. S for everything it does, but A for how fast stimpacks and Med-X can just disappear. Can't tell you how much med-x the suit goes through because a radscorpion gave me a stink eye and being empty when a Legion death squad spots me.
Stealth Suit is The S tier armor. You forgot to mention on top of everything else that it does it will also auto use your Stims and MedX to keep you alive.
I always end up ranking these by which ones get the most use for me. For example, I couldn't put advanced riot gear any higher than A because by the time I get it I'm just about to end up with Elite riot gear, which is an easy S tier. Similarly, I have to put reinforced combat armor in S tier because it's offered by the Omertas as one of the top tier prizes in the casino, making it my armor of choice for a long time whenever I end up doing a run where I go straight to New Vegas. I really liked this list though, medium armor is always my choice whenever I don't do a critical build
Yeah two of the Stealth Suits, one of them is Assassin Suit worn by Christine. I would put that B Tier due to the better sneak bonus (+10), but overall a better combat armor. But if you upgrade the heck out of the Mk. II suit, go for it. There was even a Mk. III one from Nexus mod, so I'm all down for it. Edit: OMG I haven't played FNV for the last 3 years! Assassin Suit is Light Armor, not Medium! Nvm, maybe you got some duplicated.
Dlc Medium armor also have the added bonus base game medium armor doesn't where they aren't in the light armor perk exclusion list so they're a great defensive option for those crit builds
To me, Reinforced Combat Armor Mark II is a top tier choice for giving heavy-armor level protection *and* allowing Light Touch and Travel Light to work, because it's not on the list of 'Non-light armors'. Surprised that didn't get mentioned.
I’d throw desert ranger up to A. It’s got better defense than the combat reinforced, is easier to acquire since it’s in a fixed location in a dlc that isn’t too challenging for new players, and looks cool as shit. And it’s got cool lore so that’s there too
Another thing to note about armor set, they usually come with a helmet on a set with a few exception. Those that do adds some additional DT and a few also comes with extra atributs on top of the armor atributs itself
Elite riot gear is just flat the best for open combat and it looks the best, without question! (even though looking st the icons you got elite riot gear and regular riot gear mixed up!)
5:52 Just want to say that if the desert ranger combat armour should be A tier, might not have bonuses, but if you want ranger armour and don’t want the baggage of the faction armour, then it’s a great pick than can be gotten early on, sure you can rush LR, but I usually do HH first anyway, great armour that’ll carry you far and has a great story behind it. Also for the ERG, it’s good to mention that the helmet actually only takes up the face slot, meaning you can wear a hat with the helmet, I typically use the 1st recon beret to pair with the armour, giving a nice +10 to crit
You can easily get a pair of black combat armor fairy early off dead Van Graff thugs near a sacked caravan, just south of freeside. I beeline there every playthrough
one of the things with ranger patrol armor is that it is super cheap to repair at a repair service for some reason and you can easily get some from dead raners when you check out the ranger station of ranger Andy in novac.
I would argue that recon armor like Christines are useless for their primary purpose - stealth character, since medium armour have penalties for stealth, which negates positive +5 , as well as slower movements. For stealth build light armor is a way better choice both in regards to mobility and stealth
“Trooper armor is disappointing.” I mean yeah it’s a standardized, mass produced uniform with the bare basics of protection. The legion has to deal with close quarters fighting. The NCR forms firing lines with their service rifles. They don’t need to be super protected. The whole doctrine is “good enough for a bunch of troops.”
Hey Ron' I could be wrong but im pretty sure the stealth suit MK2 (OWB's dlc) is bugged in the case of the +20% movement speed while crouched, so your just getting the +25 snk, per and agi bonuses. So its Med armor, 14 dr, 25lbs and 2 minor stat buffs that interferes with your hearing. with the upgrading of the suit the DR should also increase by +1 per firmware upgrade for a total of 17 Dr and a downgrade in weight to 20lbs to be viable to use in the fashion that is meant to.
i prefer the assassin suit, looks better (bright ass white for stealth aint 2 smart) is actually light armor so baseline less noise, higher move speed works with light armor perks and isnt constantly blabbering when trying to sneak..especially when you have the perk so your light doesnt affect detection and the dumbass suit is still btching about it
I love making the level 2 or 3 run to The Strip then winning at the to Gomorrah to get the combat armor they award you. Winning chips while winning armor? Why not!
I’m definitely watching all your videos but my gripe would be value is not a factor. I get that money is easy to come by but sale value should be mentioned. Love the videos!
Medium and heavy armor give movement and detection penalties. Armor weight gives an additional detection penalty. The crouching speed bonus from stealth suit mk2 doesn't work in all versions. The stealth suit mk2 has auto-injection, but it is bugged. The stealth suit mk2 is just a bit over average for sneaking compared to other armor and easily beaten by many light armor variants (especially duster variants).
Wish FNV had spesial stats and skill points above cap with clothes and perks, like u could max out your guns skills to 100 with points but get 110 with clothes for even more dmg
I generally avoid the medium armours as whenever I play fallout New Vegas I rarely come across peices of medium armour so even with the jury rigging skill I find it hard to fix I usually go for reinforced leather leather which can be fixed with any light armour or peice game of clothing and is really effect if you take both levels of toughness for an extra 6 DT and the sub dermal armour implant that gives you another 4 DT Or like I do fairly early in the game do the brotherhood quest line so that you can get access to both T45 and T51 power armour which can both take a ton of damage and can be fairly easily fixed using metal armour that a lot of raiders and some mercenaries use you only need about two sets at half condition to fully fix a suit of T45 that is nearly broken like the suit you get from the brotherhood when you join them
For light armor, early game, Space Suit + Helmet beats almost anything: armor has same DT as reinforced leather at half the weight, and the helmet adds 4 DT and weights nothing - oh, and +40% radiation resistance.
I’ve tried to get the ncr ranger armor and wear it in my playthroughs knowing how cool and it’s so iconic, but knowing how for some reason I want to try and do honest hearts early since the required level is 10, so having to either get to the point of the story where rangers come in and going to their safe house is kind of useless knowing the Desert Ranger Armor is a thing.
Btw Ron +1 Endurance doesnt work like you think, at least last time I checked which was in FO3: Having +1 END effects only gives you the defense not more Health, its basaically just +2 DR in the case of FO3 its 2% more defense (capped at 80%). Its terrible lol. It's one of the worst effects to have. (it seems that +END in NV it only gives poison resist & rad resist idk) (you should test this for all stats, part of me guesses that +AGI doesnt give more AP either just skill bonuses & reload speed) STR, AGI, LUK, etc are more useful, especially STR because the more STR the more the armor carries itself & that makes the defense/weight ratio be worth more.
Yeah I disagee with your list, I would order the bottom tiers different. The top tiers you got them on the spot tho for sure. The armor of the cover of the game is the uncontested best. Anything that gives Crit or Luck tends to be that way, altho it depends almost all my builds are maxed in Luck so flat Crit is better.
after seeing the desert ranger armor ranked below the mk2 of all things, yeahh no. desert ranger armor's got more DT and can be obtained way more easily, plus the aesthetics alone puts this at the top of A tier at the very least
I find that the major drawback to medium armour in fallout new Vegas is that although their are quite a few versions of it they are fairly rare so are difficult to fix even with the jury-rigging perk find that power armour is easier to fix it you have any metal armour which is quite plentiful and light armour being way easier to fix as for light armour you can use any piece of clothing to fix it

I really enjoy playing that game lately and even tho it has less options than New Vegas i think it would be nice to see your opinion on those too. :D
I dont think medium armor even exists in FO3, the game only recognizes "clothing" & Power Armor. So a Combat Armor for example would be "clothing", no sneak penalty whatsoever & Power Armor has the sneak penalty thats the only difference. Power Armor can be whack in FO3 because % resistance with a cap at 80% is dumb. The DR system of NV is much better. Reileys Rangers Armor is probs the top tier in FO3 lol, that & the Chinese Stealth Armor due to the invisible field.
If you dont believe Power Armor is the weakest in FO3 outta all the game test it. Spawn a BoS or Enclave enemy & kill it with the starting baseball bat. FO3 power armor sucks it is the easiest game to fight the BoS at. Somebody already tested it actually the video is called "power armor in fallout games" or something, it compares all the series. FO4 has the strongest, NV has the 2nd strongest, FO1 & 2 it is pretty damn competent, FO3 its the weakest due to the % defense system.

Can't you disable the voice over at Big MT? I could have sworn it was a setting on the main room console.
@@MLG1014 I think that's only for the Sink personalities, not the stealth suit l.
the 9mm is easier to get than the fat man so that means its better
Really? That is strange I wonder if it was just added wrong to the game files.
I wanna say itsjabo possibly has a video on it
@@AxialmatI believe these also apply to the DLC armors like desert ranger armor.
Well good news dlc Medium armor isn't in the exclusion list for the light armor based perks
The Van Graff combat, depending on how you get it, is an S tier for the sole reason you can bring it into Dead Money and weighs nothing
That is true.
I always give the Van Graff armor to Cass to wear. She deserves it as a trophy.
How did I not know this until now!?
The good thing about the Van Graff armour is that once you finish the quest and they take it back, you can steal it from the chest beside the guard at the front door and it’ll stay in your inventory as a quest item so you can take it into dead money without the game taking it from you
That is true, and that does make it a bit better.
I dug all the Riot Gears, the Desert Ranger Armor, Tesla Armor, and the Stealth Armor Mk 2 is hilarious with its voice as well as super useful.
The voice used to jump scare me if i was sneaking around somewhere and it says "Fighting initiated... just kidding", although it was such a good armour i put up with it. I'm thankful of Jury Rigging for it too
I think the one you skipped that looks like the Stealth Suit MK2 is the Assassin Suit Stealth Suit MK1 found in the infirmary in the Sierra Madre
The assassin/stealth mk1 suit is light armor.
The mk2 is medium tho and definitely should be on this list.

To be fair, you can probably find tier lists on pretty much every somewhat big title - but im super happy about these videos on fnv
@@Corrupted I think the utter freedom of NV helps it stand the test of time. It feels like Obsidian tried their hardest to give most items a place in your inventory. Really keeps content for the game fresh even 10+ years later
What this means is that you can use Light Touch, Travel Light and Tunnel Runner on it which is unique.
that's awesome
Wait is that for real? I have to test this.
Same with the dlc medium armor's none of them are on the exclusion list
The riot gear has an advantage and that is that you dont have to enter the dlc to get it
if you win enough money and/or sell everything you find in the base + some barter, you can get all the money to buy it and it will carry you for a pretty nice time, until you reach the point where you are strong enough to go to the dlc and get the better ones
You can actually get it level 1 with some luck
If you guys wanna know how to find a set of Ranger Combat Armor early is to do NCR quests until you're liked by them, and then speak to Colonel Shu in McCarran. He'll give you the key to a place called the Ranger Safehouse, which isn't far south of Repconn HQ. The set in there is very low condition, but if you also get Jury Rigging, it's easy to maintain!
I just kill Andy
@@tonydv9260 Lmaoo, easy Ranger Patrol Armor there! I meant the Elite Ranger Armor though, the one from the main menu lol
@@GalacticBadass Oh, ok. I'd still kill Andy tho.
Literally the reason that I mainly do NCR runs, that armour is just too cool.

I just go to the Divide immediately after Goodsprings or Primm to get riot gear and helmet.
Putting the Desert Ranger Combat Armor into B tier just hurt my soul... I always wear it through my playthroughs since I crank my guns up to 100 anyway
I can understand that, it is a super cool looking set of armor.
It's still useful content as well 😂
You also forgotten the Riot Gear set (Normal, Advanced, and Elite) all their helmets gives an extra bonus such as Sneak Sight and +Perception boosts

Considering you can get a suit of sexy black combat armor from the sacked caravans almost immediately after getting past the 188, combat armor is S tier in my book.
endgame armors that give skill points are best for builds that aren't putting points into that skill to begin with. if you're building towards explosives, explosives is probably going to be one of the first skills you max out, so a +10 explosives ironically isn't that useful. what makes +10 explosives good is that it's not usually your primary combat skill, so it's useful that it puts points into something you wouldn't normally have maxed out for most of the game.
new reapeeron upload 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️ can’t wait for the light armour video but we all know sierra madre reinforced is gonna be at the top of S tier
Nah, Naughty Nightwear is best.
Thanks for the info!
If you're playing New Vegas, you're going to end up with any ranger looking armor, sunglasses, cowboy hat, and a revolver.
That is a fact of new vegas.
Nope. Naughty Nightwear, Rebreather, and Hyperbreeder Alpha.
never understood why the stealth suit and recon armors and whatnot were medium armor and not light
The stealth suit is either an A or S. S for everything it does, but A for how fast stimpacks and Med-X can just disappear. Can't tell you how much med-x the suit goes through because a radscorpion gave me a stink eye and being empty when a Legion death squad spots me.

Wait, legit? So Desert Ranger and Riot Sets can legit be used with Light Touch?
Glad to see my choice of advanced riot gear was a good one
Yeah, it's a really good one.
And it’s got cool lore so that’s there too
That's fair, I think I did by the end of this. It is a great armor.
NCR armor should be up 1 higher if ur doing a non ncr playthrough for the disguise function .
We NEED Side Quests tier list! Plz make it happen 🥺🙏
one of the things with ranger patrol armor is that it is super cheap to repair at a repair service for some reason and you can easily get some from dead raners when you check out the ranger station of ranger Andy in novac.
I would argue that recon armor like Christines are useless for their primary purpose - stealth character, since medium armour have penalties for stealth, which negates positive +5 , as well as slower movements. For stealth build light armor is a way better choice both in regards to mobility and stealth
I give Christine's COS armor to Veronica. Looks good on her and gives decent protection for the weight. Plus it was her girlfriend's armor, so...
There are two tiers of medium armor:
The coolest looking armors in the game
Or
What I pick up to jury rig the ones in column 1
“Trooper armor is disappointing.”
I mean yeah it’s a standardized, mass produced uniform with the bare basics of protection.
Why not!
Don't forget to steal the Naughty Nightwear from Mick in Freeside first for the +1 Luck.
@@CliffSedge-nu5fv Where do you steal it from? Do I pickpocket it?
I agree with all your opinions here apart from 1 which you put in D tier and I think it's just about C tier. can't remember which one though.

Holy shit dude didn’t expect such a quick upload… No I’m curious on which version of the right gear is your favorite
10:25 FALLOUT!!!!!!!!!!
I generally avoid the medium armours as whenever I play fallout New Vegas I rarely come across peices of medium armour so even with the jury rigging skill I find it hard to fix I usually go for reinforced leather leather which can be fixed with any light armour or peice game of clothing and is really effect if you take both levels of toughness for an extra 6 DT and the sub dermal armour implant that gives you another 4 DT
Or like I do fairly early in the game do the brotherhood quest line so that you can get access to both T45 and T51 power armour which can both take a ton of damage and can be fairly easily fixed using metal armour that a lot of raiders and some mercenaries use you only need about two sets at half condition to fully fix a suit of T45 that is nearly broken like the suit you get from the brotherhood when you join them
i just activated archimedes and took all the dead ncr armor, never had to worry about repairs again. i love jury rigging
How is Desert Ranger armour below reinforced mk 2 when it's a strict upgrade on it?
Btw Ron +1 Endurance doesnt work like you think, at least last time I checked which was in FO3: Having +1 END effects only gives you the defense not more Health, its basaically just +2 DR in the case of FO3 its 2% more defense (capped at 80%). Its terrible lol. It's one of the worst effects to have. (it seems that +END in NV it only gives poison resist & rad resist idk)
(you should test this for all stats, part of me guesses that +AGI doesnt give more AP either just skill bonuses & reload speed)
STR, AGI, LUK, etc are more useful, especially STR because the more STR the more the armor carries itself & that makes the defense/weight ratio be worth more.
For some of us I swear our whole tier list is comprised of only Ranger Combat Armors and is scored solely based off aesthetic preferences hahaha
after seeing the desert ranger armor ranked below the mk2 of all things, yeahh no. desert ranger armor's got more DT and can be obtained way more easily, plus the aesthetics alone puts this at the top of A tier at the very least
We require the light armor tier list
“Welcome back to the wasteland”? We all never left

I missed Gannon's Armor in the last vid and was just reminded the power armor is medium lol
Damn dude, you make multiple factual errors and bad calls with these rankings
@@ElDrHouse2010wtf dude, PA was OP in Fo3, NPCs in vanilla were easy because Bethesda wanted a linear storyline.

50 DR: 125
