The Arc Welder's DPS against robots is actually pretty good, especially at lower levels. I like going to the start of the Lonesome Road DLC and using it to take care of the Sentry Bots, to help with gathering loot that sells for a fair amount earlygame.

Despite your praise to the Sprtel-Wood, the showcase, honestly, makes it look pretty atrocious, like dumping hundreds of ammunition on a couple of legion soldiers really makes it look off putting.
Yeah I am biased because I only play on Very Hard and I forget that some folks' opinions of guns might be based on lowered difficulties. Not many, but some.
I was always a fan of the incinerator. I got it on my first playthrough at Primm and thought it was the best. Mixing it with the Heave Ho perk makes it a fiery mortar, lobbing shots from distances I didn't think possible and accurately too if you know how to measure the distance.
It really is super fun and it's a shame that fire in general is so weak in New Vegas. It's very good on like Normal or easier modes, but I only play on Very Hard and only with upgraded ammo and all relevant perks does it get to be of any use. But when it is built around, it makes for a fantastic long-range siege weapon to take out easy raiders/animals, cripple and scatter cazadores, or get deathclaws and super mutants taking on damage before switching to some other goodies.
@@ManDuderGuy haha, yeah it is kinda silly. But huh, I just realized I'm not sure if Loose Cannon also increases the incinerator's fire rate... Must find out!
I do like using Elijah's Tesla Cannon for fighting the Legendary Bloatfly. The high damage and pinpoint accuracy make it easy to snipe the bloatfly. Otherwise, even if I do pick any of these up, they usually end up in the locker I use in The Sink I use for storing weapons and armor.
I’ve been using the plasma caster for my recent playthrough, and i would honestly put the upgraded plasma caster up in s tier. Its dps is almost the same as the smitty but higher damage per. shot, making the smitty pretty much inferior. Kinda sad since i liked the fo1 reference. Only thing holding it back is the lower amount of hp.
I also only recently got around to really boosting the plasma caster after having been unimpressed as a newer player with it's performance and knowing how to play it's insane. Fast Shot, upped ammo, and just a couple of relevant perks and even on a low critical character it can just blast through a mountain.
Plasma caster is my fav to give to companions too. It's pretty ammo efficient and is suitable at many ranges. So it doesn't really matter what Veronica or Arcade try to shoot it at, they'll hit hard without pissing away ammo.
The regular Plasma Caster is better outside of VATS while the Smitty Special is much better in VATS. Because it is full auto, Plasma and has high base damage for a full auto weapon. That means it gets Plasma Spaz perk, shoots 3 shots for every action and each of those shots have high base damage. At a base damage of 35 per shot a single action in VATS will deal around 105 damage. That's without perks and with standard ammo.
While the strength and ammo consumption make them inconvenient to use, Sprtel-Wood and Gatling Laser are game-breaking in combination with sources of what I call "static crit". Most sources of crit chance are multiplied by the Crit % mult on the weapon, (which is very low on these weapons) but some sources are "static" and just give the same crit chance to every weapon. The relevant sources for these weapons are "Set Lasers for Fun" +4 Crit, "Laser Commander" +10 Crit, "Light Touch" +5 Crit, and the 5% crit from VATS attacks. I personally used a Sprtel-Wood to kill the Legendary Bloatfly with this and it astonished me how quickly I burned his health bar down.
crits with the gatling laser can be quite effective if you use perks with a fixed crit chance like laser commander, light touch and both ranks of set lasers for fun.
I also never really found a use for them. Energy rifles were just easier to build around, more easy to repair, and did comparable outputs. Being able to put SPECIAL points into other things instead of STR is also another reason. These big energy weapons just don't have a ton of synergy late game. Early game incinerators and flamers are a super solid choice though until armor starts becoming a thing.
I love the Sprtel-Wood 9700. My favorite weapons because it's everything that makes the Gatling Laser great plus more and some cool green lasers. Only issue is the extremely high price meaning I have to save most of my casino money for it.
I find it really easy to get all you have to do is use a stealth boy to steal Everything from the silver rush then start their quest and let the suicide bomber in so you get a ton of combat armor to buy the sprtel wood
I personally bumped the Cleansing Flame up to A-teir. I always rock this thing when entering lonesome Road DLC with the pyromaniac park. Why? Those freaking Tunneler abominations. Their small, speedy little fuckers, they burrow under the ground So they can pop out of anywhere, They always travel in packs & Hit like a freaking truck. Especially the hulking ones, those things down deathclaws in seconds. In short, They could become the most annoying enemy in the DLC. Emphasis on could, cuz first playthroughs through lonesome road, Even on high level with unique guns, especially on survival/hardcore mode, these things just ate up my bullets & treating them like mosquitoes bites. But boy oh boy did I learn a thing or two about returning to the roots of discovering fire. These creatures are highly flammable, and while scaring them off with a flare gun is always an option. I found to take the more up close and personal approach much more satisfying. So I slap on the Cleansing Flame & pick the pyromaniac perk for my jack of all trades build. And let me tell you, this thing instantly becomes the bane of all tunnelers. It melts through them all like butter even in packs, especially when going down the elevator into the silo & jump over the lifts fences. You could fry these mangie gits before they even set foot in the elevator, meaning you've got yourself a safe trip all the way down & You're very own personal tunneler repellent in the form of a devastating dragon breathing weapon of choice. In conclusion, tunneler's fear nothing, but the moment you equip the cleansing flame. The only thing they truly fear, is you & your Cleansing Flame, Cuz your cleansing the freaking world of these abominations & having a hell of a good time doing so. So yea, forever A-tier.
Armor's kinda straightforward, isn't it? Bigger number = better. Maybe besides some fun gimmicks like getting Light Touch and high crit% light armors. It should be more like a fashion tier list.
I've always found flame weapons to be underwhelming in fallout. Wish more games had the flamethrower feel more like deep rock, or even team fortress 2.
Thats why you use it vs naked enemies and Low DT targets. The Flamer could kill a Cazador if lucky. Also you can save up your precious Micro, Fusion and Electro cells on targets that actually deserve them.
The Gatling Laser having a low Crit Multiplier isn't an issue since several of the perks for boosting crit chance for lasers such as Set Lasers to Fun!, Laser Commander, and Light Touch boost crit chance by a flat amount. A total of a flat +19% crit chance can be applied to the Gatling Laser when those perks are applied. That's just two perk choices (Set Lasers for Fun! is a challenge reward perk) for a near 1-in-5 critical hit chance on a Laser RCW, Gatling Laser, and MF Hyperbreeder Alpha.
I like using energy weapons but not the heavy energy weapons, i prefer to use weapons like the Q35 Matter Modulator or the AER14 prototype both of which are vastly superior to heavy energy. Also i love how you used the cleansing flame on Oliver, nice touch.
They're good for general purpose, but Gatling laser vastly outclass both of them in dps, and you'll want that dps for lonesome road, especially in courier's mile.
i honestly think that the gatling laser is S tier due to it reching 900 dps with the right perks and fully modded with max ammo, even though it breaks quite quickly, in comparision at that point its a great "oh shit" option and with the -5DT from max charge ammo its shreds enemies that are below 30DT
Not much in it, but i think the regular gatling laser edges the unique one in most scenarios, both deals obscene amount of damage, but gatling laser has a much bigger mag size, so i'd go with that if you have the strength for it. Both are S-tier imo.
One time (just once) I used the heavy incinerator to clear the Deathclaws at the Quarry at Level 5. I used a stealthboy to get to the top of the central building then lobbed the fire balls like mortar rounds one at a time and let the fire damage run it's course before I fired another. My favorite heavy energy weapon is the Gatlin Laser. You can add mods to it to do more damage than the spartel 9000. You can add focus optics and CF frame mod to add +3 damage and make it weigh less. Perks you can use with gatlin laser. Laser commander, bloody mess, lord death and thought you died perk for a total of 3.4 damage. So with perks and mods the regular can add up to 6.4 more damage.
I'm doing an energy weapon build. If you put plasma spaz, laser commander and Meltdown perks on. Your character ......it makes energy weapons extremely OP
I like to do Lonesome Road before Old World Blues, so I can take the Arc Welder with me. It does well against the various robot enemies, even more so if you have a high Energy Weapons skill.
The perks Laser Commander (10%) Set Lasers For Fun 2 (4%) Light Touch (5%) All apply their crit chance after the weapons multiplier incidentally giving Automatic laser weapons the highest Crit chance of any automatic weapon making them decently stronger As 19% crit rate for the Sprtel-Wood melts even the strongest enemies
I have laser commander, max energy weaons, and more then the strength required to use the Arc Welder, I can attest that, that gun blows, even vs. Robots. Unless another perk helps it, it's worthless. Almost forgot to mention I used Max Charge Ammo.
Just found your channel about two days ago and I've been bingeing these lists. Keep it up man! Also how do you feel about 76 making basically a BS NV being where I live now AKA Atlantic city???
I've hadn't played it at all but the map seems enjoyable and I just want to find my house. Even though it doesn't need to happen because it already looks like it was hit by nukes if you're on the right side on town.
@@ReapeeRon Also the only of your tierlists I really disagreed with (and therefore left a dislike) were energy pistols. Like, you really should rate every TOOL under any given category as a TOOL and every WEAPON under said category as a WEAPON. Because there are a lot of TOOLS in energy pistols category and even TOOLS/WEAPONS too. Like, flare gun is obviously a tool. Pulse gun is also a tool and a bloody good one, it deserves S tier for a reason. Euclid is BOTH a tool AND a weapon, and it's in no cursed twisted dimension lower than S tier. So considering a difference between tools and weapons and rating them accordingly would really be helpful.
I think you’re selling the arc welder short. It does bonus damage against both robots (+8) and power armor (+4) (minus NCR salvaged PA) So if you’re siding against House or eliminating the BoS as house wants you to-Arc Welder is not a bad choice
Flamethrowers always bugged me in FNV and FO4 because of their effectiveness, sure they are not going to be as lethal as just straight up shooting someone with hot lead in the head, but either way they fell way too underwhelming Idk if that was possible for Obsidian at the time but giving flamed targets fear and panic would absolutely justify low direct(and still kinda low burn damage but maybe thats just me), otherwise they just always feel like glorified cooking utensils(and i cant even forget that in fnv flamethrowers are literally used by White Gloves to just cook up some meat lol)
fire overall feels super weak in 3d fallouts. 5 damage for a few seconds for being set on fire is stupidly weak. fire geckos were really scary in fallout 2, but they are so bad in NV
The DT system in NV make flamers borderline useless which is probably one of the greatest weaknesses of the DT system. With DR in FO3, the damage was reduced by a percentage which allowed flamers to still do tons of DPS. They then ruined DR in FO4 causing most weapons to be borderline worthless by lvl 70 and for the flamer to be completely worthless.
the beaton prototype should be S tier its the only laser weapon that does splash damage and is affected by the perk that improves splash damage. also elijah's jury rigged tesla canon has an HP drain effect per shot and it stacks, making it easily one of the most powerful energy weapons you can wield in the entire franchise imo. one more thing: the heavy incinerator with appropriate perks straight up murks whole groups of cazadores from well outside of their aggro range. with all the right perks, it can do A tier damage from artillery ranges.
With a properly built character the regular gattling laser is the strongest weapon in the game, there are so many perks that benefit the weapon and the weapon mods are really powerful Obviously I'm excluding mini nukes, they surpass the gattling laser dps by quite a lot but it's more of a technicality You can have a lot of extra ammo for it if you're smart and use the unique recharger pistol on weak enemies, it's surprisingly powerful with laser commander
I think so too. The only thing the Sprtel-Wood has going for it is that it's more ammo efficient cuz it does more damage per shot... but even so, Electron Charge Pack ammo is pretty easy to come by.
@ReapeeRon that'd be great honestly. So far you're rankings have been hitting the head perfect. I'd love your views and opinions on the quests and DLCs
Upgraded gatling laser is much stronger than the Sprtel Wood once you have Camarader-E (+5 damager per beam) and all the critcal perks. Laser Commander + Light Touch + Set Laser for Fun will give it 19% chance for a critical hit per shot. With Eye for an Eye, Slasher amd Yao Guai meat using Max Charge ECP you get over 1500 DPS ignoring crits. My damage build has 1620 DPS (54 damage per shot 30x per seconds, without crits).
Arc welder is weird. I know 100% against robots it does a flat + solid number effect damage regardless of other factors such as your skill and it can help for some locations with weak trash robots with ease. I think it also does some to power armour to a lesser extent. It's by no means amazing but I gotta respect they did give a weapon to deal with Just the basically trash of robots
It also is absolutely cracked in owbs because it doesn't suffer the damage penalty to robots in that dlc like emp rounds (I think) the emp gun and the NCR dogtag weapon. I still agree d tier is probably the position overall but if you're doing owbs I'd bump it to maybe a mid c because it can be useful at all those stages
Given how fast they use ammo and weight, I wouldn't put any of these to s tier. Some of these are not even all that good against larger opponent where you would need the most firepower.
I kinda disagree with alot of stuff and kinda think most energy heavy weapons suck mainly because of two things dt system and crit multi of automatic . For example in your video fighting legion assassins it seemed that a 600 dps weapon took along time because of lack of crits (which sucks considering energy weapon builds get laser commando making crits insane ) and also the dt system means the 16 damage shots will be considerably weaker (ammo kinda helps) .
m.th-cam.com/video/x1L6G_t298A/w-d-xo.html This is how fast you can clear out deathclaw promontory with the Gatling laser. No other weapons I've seen can do it at this speed. Laser commander is actually best on high dps weapons like the Gatling laser because it's a flat bonus, meaning it's unaffected by the bad multipliers these weapons have. Combined with max charge, only robots and power armor can have any noticable effect on your dps, and they still go down decently quickly from my experience.
The Arc Welder's DPS against robots is actually pretty good, especially at lower levels. I like going to the start of the Lonesome Road DLC and using it to take care of the Sentry Bots, to help with gathering loot that sells for a fair amount earlygame.

incidentally giving Automatic laser weapons the highest Crit chance of any automatic weapon making them decently stronger
As 19% crit rate for the Sprtel-Wood melts even the strongest enemies
Love the list, and I think flamera are great, but just a super niche weapon.
Thanks!
If you haven't, you should consider doing a melee and unarmed weapons tier list :o
I absolutely love cleansing flame, one of my favourite weapons
I caught that burning of Oliver's dead body with the Cleansing Flame lol
yo have you thought about doing mod reviews?
That could be interesting.
Awesome list! I was wondering if you'd do a Video on the original Fallout 1 and 2?
Thanks, and i might in the future.
I have laser commander, max energy weaons, and more then the strength required to use the Arc Welder, I can attest that, that gun blows, even vs. Robots.
Unless another perk helps it, it's worthless.
Almost forgot to mention I used Max Charge Ammo.
The plasma caster does have 1 mod, High speed electrode, which increases its fire rate !
You are right.
Gatling Laser + focus optic upgrade + optimized ammo + laser commander & meltdown perks = S+ tier weapon
Just found your channel about two days ago and I've been bingeing these lists. Keep it up man! Also how do you feel about 76 making basically a BS NV being where I live now AKA Atlantic city???
Thanks, I have not played 76 so I don't have to much to say about it right now.
I've hadn't played it at all but the map seems enjoyable and I just want to find my house. Even though it doesn't need to happen because it already looks like it was hit by nukes if you're on the right side on town.
FINALLY CYKA
I've waited for so long for this
Hope that you enjoy that!
@@ReapeeRon Be sure I did :3 Even though I haven't really used anything beyond Gatling Laser, Plasma Caster and Tesla Beaton Prototype from that list
It does bonus damage against both robots (+8) and power armor (+4) (minus NCR salvaged PA)
So if you’re siding against House or eliminating the BoS as house wants you to-Arc Welder is not a bad choice
I found it to be okay at the start of the game, but once you are getting to the end you have weapons that do more to robots and power armor.
Flamethrowers always bugged me in FNV and FO4 because of their effectiveness, sure they are not going to be as lethal as just straight up shooting someone with hot lead in the head, but either way they fell way too underwhelming
Idk if that was possible for Obsidian at the time but giving flamed targets fear and panic would absolutely justify low direct(and still kinda low burn damage but maybe thats just me), otherwise they just always feel like glorified cooking utensils(and i cant even forget that in fnv flamethrowers are literally used by White Gloves to just cook up some meat lol)
fire overall feels super weak in 3d fallouts. 5 damage for a few seconds for being set on fire is stupidly weak. fire geckos were really scary in fallout 2, but they are so bad in NV
@@erikbukovac5944 flamethrowers in fallout 1 were a nightmare to go up against because of that deadly crit chance.
The DT system in NV make flamers borderline useless which is probably one of the greatest weaknesses of the DT system. With DR in FO3, the damage was reduced by a percentage which allowed flamers to still do tons of DPS. They then ruined DR in FO4 causing most weapons to be borderline worthless by lvl 70 and for the flamer to be completely worthless.
flamers are still good in 3. as halofornoobs pointed out, DT absolutely ruins it though.
They become better with pyromaniac. But having an entire perk dedicated to making your weapon class viable makes it a hard sell.
it's good to see that Cleansing Flame causes a FPS drop for others as well. Thought it was a me problem
the beaton prototype should be S tier its the only laser weapon that does splash damage and is affected by the perk that improves splash damage. also elijah's jury rigged tesla canon has an HP drain effect per shot and it stacks, making it easily one of the most powerful energy weapons you can wield in the entire franchise imo. one more thing: the heavy incinerator with appropriate perks straight up murks whole groups of cazadores from well outside of their aggro range. with all the right perks, it can do A tier damage from artillery ranges.
Melee weapons next? Another banger video btw
Explosives next then melee weapons
Plus you can have expanded tanks on the normal flamer !
'That is true.
I got into FNV recently cuz it was free on epic games, I like these videos a lot ❤
Awesome, glad that you are enjoying the videos!
The gatling laser actually outclasses the Sprtel-Wood with mods. Which is pretty sad since the Sprtel Wood is a nice tribute
Because getting ed e’s daily repair is really easy I feel like the low hp on Tesla Beaton is not an issue
I find it funny that both the Tesla weapons are just found lying around
Will you do Melee weapons next? Seems like the only weapon category left for you to cover unless you decide to do Fallout 4 weapons?
Next is going to be explosives and then we are moving onto the melee and unarmed weapons.
@@ReapeeRon Awesome! looking forward to it man keep up the great work. It's making want to start another playthrough of new vegas haha
Does anyone else sing Ghostbusters theme song while using the Arc Welder because it reminds me of their weapons they use against ghosts?
With a properly built character the regular gattling laser is the strongest weapon in the game, there are so many perks that benefit the weapon and the weapon mods are really powerful
Obviously I'm excluding mini nukes, they surpass the gattling laser dps by quite a lot but it's more of a technicality
You can have a lot of extra ammo for it if you're smart and use the unique recharger pistol on weak enemies, it's surprisingly powerful with laser commander
11:40 really? that was a load of rounds needed for that little fight!
the flamers are great vs rad scorps they cripple limbs like crazy
Yeah they are good for enemies like that.
Does laser commander buff Gatling laser and sprtel-wood 9700?
Yes it does work with them.
It does, and it's extremely effective due to being a flat increase to crit chance rather than being a multiplier to the weapon's own crit multiplier.
Plasmacaster is one of the strongest weapons in dmg per shot and dps with the mods. Its easy S+ Tier
Cleansing flames fire is always invisible to me. Is there any way to fix it?
I haven't had that before, if you are on PC you could try mods.
i killed both lanius and rawr with one use of vats each with sprtel wood. good gun, kills good
Isnt the regular Gattling Laser with all the mods stronger than the sprtel wood ?
I think so too. The only thing the Sprtel-Wood has going for it is that it's more ammo efficient cuz it does more damage per shot... but even so, Electron Charge Pack ammo is pretty easy to come by.
Still owe myself a Space Marine run. Power Armor, Melee and Heavy Energy Weapons
For The Golden Throne!
@@ReapeeRon FOR THE EMPRAH!
Subbed n liked, have u done all weapon categories?? N armours ??
Not all of the weapons yet and I have not gotten to the armor.
Doesn't the vanila gatling lazer outdamage sprtel wood when upgraded?
can you do a heavy explosive weapon tier list with weapons like the grenade machine gun or grenade launchers
Is the incinerator effected by pyromaniac and demolition expert?
Just Pyromaniac.
What's next? A ranking of all the quests in the game? Tier list of the DlC's?
I could do those as well.
@ReapeeRon that'd be great honestly. So far you're rankings have been hitting the head perfect. I'd love your views and opinions on the quests and DLCs
There's only 1 weapon that is the best, Service Rifle
NCR Propaganda keeps getting stuck here.
I wish I used heavy weapons more but they are heavy, expensive and ammo is rare and expensive so it just makes them hard to use
Yeah I don't use them very much either. I play on Hardcore so weight can be hard to manage.
My damage build has 1620 DPS (54 damage per shot 30x per seconds, without crits).
does incinerator benefit from explosives perks since its projectile explodes?
You would think that it does, but sadly no.
The unique flamer is bugged on xbox, you dont see the blue fire, its bugged in that regard, makes the flame invisible
Given how fast they use ammo and weight, I wouldn't put any of these to s tier. Some of these are not even all that good against larger opponent where you would need the most firepower.
Looks like Cleansing Flames also causes fps drops for you
Yeah that is something that can happen with energy weapons sometimes. Mods have helped that.
Ron, do you use any mods in Fallout New Vegas?
Usually I do, but for these videos I have not.
@@ReapeeRon Can you tell or make a video, what mods? Are they cosmetics, just adding minimal changes?
can you make video about all armor in FNV?
Sure
You should put Plasma Caster in the S tier.
That's fair, it is really cool!
ZOMM **crumples into ash**
What was going on in the Sprtel-Wood video? You wasted hours worth of ammunition collecting on 3 legionaries
i always feel like im cheating when i use the sprtl-wood with overcharged ECP's, its just a monster
i prefer the stock gatling laser with modifications, having more than 3 times the ammo is nice.
mounted machinegun?
That will be with the explosive weapons.
I dropped Elijah’s jury rigged Tesla Cannon in old world blues and it disappeared! I’m on console and I can’t do a thing
That sucks, that can happen though the ground sometimes just eats stuff.
Cowboy tier list next plz.
For the Cowboy weapons?
@@ReapeeRon yessss
@@ReapeeRon Cow boy perk weapons, then Grunt perk weapons, Laser Commander perk weapons.
the normal gat lazer is far better than the unique version because of the mods you can put on it you can put mods on unique wepons
So what's the last one. Explosive weapons?
Explosives are coming up next.
Statistically the gatling laser+ is better than the spertle wood
I kinda disagree with alot of stuff and kinda think most energy heavy weapons suck mainly because of two things dt system and crit multi of automatic . For example in your video fighting legion assassins it seemed that a 600 dps weapon took along time because of lack of crits (which sucks considering energy weapon builds get laser commando making crits insane ) and also the dt system means the 16 damage shots will be considerably weaker (ammo kinda helps) .
I don't have laser commander with this build and I was just using normal ammo.
m.th-cam.com/video/x1L6G_t298A/w-d-xo.html
This is how fast you can clear out deathclaw promontory with the Gatling laser.
Plasma Caster is S tier, everyone that played the first game will prob agree
It is pretty nice that it made a return in this game.
I'm sorry brother, but upgraded plasma caster is S tier. Though the sprtel-wood with laser commander might still be better
