I think the slowed movement speed of power armour makes the DT boost kinda useless and once you get past level 10 ish and start getting hunted down by death squads light armour doesn’t really hold up in 4v1 gun fights
Hazmat Suit is F tier strictly because of its poison resist. Remember, just starting Old World Blues automatically gives you the Heartless perk, which makes you immune to poison. In other words, it’s effect is already pointless by the time you find it, and Heartless doesn’t lock you out from wearing armor with better DT and effects
Its DT alone should make it at least top of C tier. You can also gain some benefit from the poison resistance by giving it to companions when going to cazador-heavy areas like Callville Bay or west of Red Rock Canyon. Or you could always swap back to your original heart after finishing OWB, which replaces the immunity with 50% resistance in exchange for extra healing item effectiveness.

Even if you get your old heart back, the perk plus the suit will add up to 133% poison resistance. Best case scenario, that’s poison immunity with extra steps. Worst case scenario, the poison resistance hits a cap (like DT and rad resistance) that prevents immunity while still using a mediocre DT suit with no other benefits.

The hazmat suit is still better than most types of leather armor, which are all over C tier, so high C or low B tier looks reasonable to me. Personally, I use the hazmat suit for my courier on playthroughs where I go to Big MT first because it has much higher DT compared to any other light armor available there. If you do what most of the community does and go to Zion first, then of course Joshua Graham's armor would make the hazmat suit obsolete from a gameplay perspective. Still, one can't deny the coolness factor of dressing up in the hazmat suit and darklight cowl while sporting a bear trap fist. The ghost trapper's in town!

You made a mistake re: All-purpose science suit. You get it from the Followers safehouse, and also imo it's not A-tier because you can't wear headwear with it, preventing you from stacking additional DT and other useful benefits
And you can rock the 1st recon beret WITH the riot helmet for that smexy +5 crit boost (even though it looks ridiculous clipping through the helmet in 3rd person) lmfao
Love light armor, my only gripe is that I think light armor is a bit over-tuned in this game when you consider light touch and travel light on TOP of the fact heavier armor makes you slower (and run speed is already notoriously slow in FNV) Ulysses duster+1st recon beret+ Halo from OWB is optimal, even for melee/unarmed builds, basically everything other than pure explosives. I kinda wish they added some heavy armor perks because as it stands, the ~10 DT boost you get from rocking remnants armor doesn't really justify using it for much more than role-playing (again, if you aren't going pure explosives). And if you are playing on very hard difficulty, then you really can't face-tank high-level non-human enemies regardless of the DT difference (at least not much more than you normally would with a slasher+med-X+battle brew combo). I try not to min-max too much in this game for immersion's sake, but it's hard sometimes lol like I said, a few heavy armor perks would have gone a long way.
Agreed on all accounts. I tend to gravitate towards light armor, but with all the benefits it gets how can you not? It’s simply the most viable option, at least in most cases unless your game is modded.
Well, there is one heavy armour perk with "In Shining Armor". Just a shame that it's bugged and doesn't do anything, and even with mods that fix it it's pretty bad, but they did try.
Duster is just a little bit better with crit chance, but looks-wise I totally agree with you. Classy snakeskin boots, snakeskin belt, a shirt with mormon sign on it and ballistic vest to justify high DT, what's not to love?
@@mangosteak It depends. If your build can handle fights in LR, you can complete it first and enjoy all of F:NV using top tier gear (and even smuggle Rawr's Claw into Sierra Madre).
i'd pick the assassin suit over the chinese stealth suit mainly because the helmet is stuck to the CSS, meaning you can wear other hats and helmets on top of it. while some might see it as a way to stack bonuses, i don't like how the models clip.
It's strange, Dead Money is my least favorite of the DLCs, but it's got a bunch of my favorite equipment in it, between the holorifle, the reinforced Sierra Madre armor and the bear trap fist. Other than that, Joshua Graham's armor is my favorite light armor for looks, defense and ability.
it's sad to hear that people dislike DM so much, for me it's up there with OWB. i dont get why the Survival Horror style and taking your time to think things through is such a bad thing.
DM is cool the first time, you are learning the history through terminals and tapes. Everything is still new and surprising. Subsequent playthroughs it just feels like a chore. Granted on my current character it was pretty easy even on VH difficulty because I was prepared. I waited till ~lv. 30 and I had a few things to make it easier like Light Step for the traps, Thems Good Eatin' for the healing, and crafted Fist of Rawr.
Offensive-Ulysses' duster (10 percent crit chance from the armor alone... nuff said) Defensive-Sierra Madre armor, reinforced (love it for heavy handed melee builds) Middle ground-Joshua Graham's armor
It looks cool, has DT on par with Medium Armor for a Light Armor peice, easy to repair and excellent paired with Travel Light and Light Touch. Basically you sting like a bee with it!
5:15 the dusters are actually based upon your reputation with NCR, Legion, and the Strip, not necessarily who you decide to nuke. If you have neutral or lower reputation with all 3 you get the black jack varient, otherwise it depends on who you have more reputation with and with ties NCR is given priority then Legion.
One thing is that doing Mr. House’s quests doesn’t give change your reputation with the Strip. I got the NCR duster instead of the House one during my House playthrough of New Vegas because of this
Gecko backed reinforced leather armor is my absolute favorite, it has the same defense as regular combat armor, is very strong against cazadores, fire weapons, and has decent rad resistance, and is very durable. It fits the road warrior aesthetic perfectly, and does what armor is supposed to do; it keeps you alive.
@@ReapeeRonit does have rather steep survival requirements, but if you can work around that as well as get enough turpentine, it’s easy enough to make. I can get it relatively early in Zion with a bit of pre planning, and the armor is more than sufficient until the end of HH where I tend to usually stick to Joshua’s armor because it’s simply peerless, aside from Ulysses’ duster perhaps.
Fire resistance would have been a good bit of flavor. They could've memed it and gave it MAX fire resist like 200% lol but i really think they should have just given it a much higher durability.
I've been rocking the Space Suit since I picked it up. Great DT to weight ratio(especially when you add the helmet, which has 4 DT itself). The +40 rad resist is awesome for areas like Vault 34, and it has a really unique look(sunglasses under the bowl!). I just hit lvl 20, so I'll probably be replacing it soon, but it has been a great early-mid game item for me.

Ulysses duster is S++ tier. Along with 1rst recon beret + unique Halo. If you go pure performance, there is nothing that even gets close. Armor gets you so far when you destroy everything from max distance.
Personally, I'd put the armored vault suit lower. Not because of the stats or anything, but because of the repair material - You need combat armor to fix it up. Thankfully it drops to any light with jury rigging, but still... Mid game armor to repair a starting armor? Ugh.
On the Merc armour, I hear you and agree with everything you said, but the unmatched early game drip of the Merc Troublemaker outfit and the Desperado cowboy hat makes it worth it for me 😅
It's a very effective strategy to head to Lonesome Road early and grab the items in the Hopeville Bunker. You can avoid all combat if you're quick and get some great items. Plus having ED-E able to repair your weapon for free once a day is amazing to get early and makes the trip worth it just for that. The Marked Scout armour is nice early on as well, so it's typically my low level go-to choice.
Absolutely. Hopeville Bunker at level 2 or 3 immediately after Goodsprings or Primm is the best start. I see too many players think that you have to go all the way to the end and confront Ulysses before returning to the Mojave.
Light armor is KING in this game, and it isn’t even close. Although I do like quite a few of the medium armors. The only heavy armor I’d consider using aside from power armor would probably be the gecko backed reinforced metal armor, and even then I’d prefer the leather armor over the metal.
I don't use the reinforced Sierra Madre armor much outside of Dead Money these days since I tend to go for the Desert Ranger armor through the rest of the game, but I used to use it until the end. It is, in my opinion, top tier light armor. Can't go wrong with it. Regular clothes repair it too so that makes it even more useful. No stat increases though, but that's not a huge deal.
I really don't think any of the skill bonuses on armor are that good. SPECIAL, Carry weight or crit % are good but I always end up getting 100 in my high priority skills through skill books and levels. Also magazines exist.
Gladiator armor unironically the goat it’s a quest item and you can keep it forever if you don’t care about the fights in the little gladiator arena in the fort so you can keep the armor for the entire game if you just walk backwards and get out before the gate closes
In my current playthru I gave joshua graham's armor and the 1st recon cap and Raoul goes absolutely insane with the medicine stick and mysterious magnum especially after I got raoul upgraded thru his quest.
I can see why light armor is very popular. Not because of the perks like Light Touch, but because there are so many light armors in Fallout: New Vegas.
I'd honestly count the faction armors lower than their stats because of the forced reactions based on the disguise. It's a limited benefit with huge drawbacks.
Personally for my current build on my playthrough of FNV I think I'm just going Light armor since my character is Guns/Explosives/Sneak. Mainly laying traps and picking off what ever is left from a distance
@@gunslinginleftist You could always just give Julie all the extra Fixer/Med-X/RadAway you don't need, I think having 50 total between them all should be enough, and then of course do all the quests associated with them (the recovering addicts, fixing the conflict between kings and NCR, fixing the medicine distribution)
@@gunslinginleftist 6 months after the fact, but if you ever have any interest in getting that safehouse opened, try recruiting Jerry (an NPC in the Great Khan camp in Red Rock, standing outside the circular fence structure in the middle of the camp), helping Jason and Bill Ronte get sober, getting the Followers a supply of chems from the Atomic Wrangler, then donating chems to Julie Farkas to max out your reputation the rest of the way. Last week, I ended up accidentally maxing out my rep with them with those donations. Happened right as I was saddling up to start the second battle for Hoover Dam. If you do that, you also get offered a lab coat and an invitation to join the Followers.
New vegas and skyrim definitely did armors the best. The 2 best examples of Different armors fit different builds, not... Start at light and work to heavy
You can get caesars armor without killing him If you dont have enough medicine skill and have the medical supplies you still can operate him, thought u need high speak skill to convince luscius I mean you theorically kill him but, you don't get any bad reputation for it
Standing high above S tier laughing at all the light, medium, and heavy armors is the Naughty Nightwear. In New Vegas, luck and speech are the most powerful abilities. If you kill every enemy from stealth, then it doesn't matter what your DT is.
The Assassin Suit is my favorite, even without running a sneak build because it has really nice DT for light armor, which means you can still get all the extra bonuses from perks for light armor, including the speed bonus. The stealth buff is also nice even if you aren't running a stealth build, just to get those first shot crits off in an engagement, or avoid a nasty fight. I also just think it's the coolest looking. Never liked the Chinese stealth armor's look much, honestly. It always reminded me too much of a bug, and it has too many internal bits showing. It fits what it's supposed to be, but I'm just not a fan. Assassin Suit looks a lot cleaner, and I even prefer it over the Mk. II.
Caesar's armor is D tier in my opinion just because obtaining it requires you killing Caesar, meaning that Caesar's Legion will hate you, and you can't wear it around any NCR. The benefit of disguing you as Legion doesn't really help you either, as Legion assassins will still attack you and there isn't much to do with Caesar's Legion that isn't the main quest.
I always liked the assassins suit in Dead Money. Simple but I really like the design. I know it was used for the stealth suit in owb but I sort of like the simpler version better.
Why on earth would a rad suit be that high? There are only two places in NV with rads that aren't avoidable, the one town and a small section in lonesome road.
This was my favorite clothing review you’ve done as this class of armor is based more on bonuses and trade offs - you have to be intentional with light armor
My prefered armor setup EVERY time is: Eulogy Jones's hat, Lucky Shades, Viva Las Vegas, and a cigar in my mouth (from a mod) best armor in the game imo
Early game I like to use the Basic leather armour until I get a set of reinforced leather armour but usually by the time my character is level 14 I use T45 d power armour and I also usually build my character for using power armour by putting 7 points into agility which counteracts the minus 2 to agility from T45 d although the medium armours look good I find that they always wear out at the wrong time and are expensive to fix because if you cant find another peice to fix it you have to buy one usually from the gun runners and that can cost a few thousand caps
The advanced radiation suit is rendered totally useless if you have done the lonesome road, ulysses mask has 50 rad resist..... Then top that off with some power armor and you are now a tank with a shitload of rad resist
All this time I never knew the courier duster had different effects and logos. Probably because by the time I get it the Riot gears are equipped and I always hold off on the main faction quests so I can get away with nuking both sides

You can reverse pickpocket the Regulator Duster from the Lonesone Drifter so you can get it on console and you don't have to spawn it in on pc.

The Hazard Suit should honestly be ranked lower, as the Heartless perk that you’re forced to get from OWB makes you completely immune to poison.
If you go with cardiac arrest instead, that plus hazmat suit is full or almost full immunity (not sure how they stack).

another thing the spacesuit has going for it is you can still wear a helmet and shades while having the same rad resist as the advanced suit

Awesome, that is what I do on some of my runs too.
Space suit + helmet is hard to resist: 14 DT for 7 weight and good rad resist make it better than almost any light armor you can get in the game.

After lvl 50 with Light Touch and Travel Light, you can pretty much use every set of Light Armor and RP to your liking.
I really wish the standard Riot Gear from Lonesome Road was classified as Light but alas at least we have the SLCPD armor from Joshua 😂

Ulysses duster is S++ tier. Along with 1rst recon beret + unique Halo. If you go pure performance, there is nothing that even gets close. Armor gets you so far when you destroy everything from max distance.
Haven't watched yet but Joshua's armor best be S tier.

Personally, I'd put the armored vault suit lower. Not because of the stats or anything, but because of the repair material - You need combat armor to fix it up. Thankfully it drops to any light with jury rigging, but still... Mid game armor to repair a starting armor? Ugh.

On the Merc armour, I hear you and agree with everything you said, but the unmatched early game drip of the Merc Troublemaker outfit and the Desperado cowboy hat makes it worth it for me 😅

I played Fallout New Vegas for so long and I still haven't found all of the armors or weapons and whatnot so this game can still surprise you
Sometimes I like wearing the Merc adventurer armor just because I like the way it looks.

It's a very effective strategy to head to Lonesome Road early and grab the items in the Hopeville Bunker. You can avoid all combat if you're quick and get some great items. Plus having ED-E able to repair your weapon for free once a day is amazing to get early and makes the trip worth it just for that. The Marked Scout armour is nice early on as well, so it's typically my low level go-to choice.
Absolutely. Hopeville Bunker at level 2 or 3 immediately after Goodsprings or Primm is the best start.
I see too many players think that you have to go all the way to the end and confront Ulysses before returning to the Mojave.
Even the US Army combat armor is quite decent, and the general’s outfit is very nice as well.
Poison resist is pointless in old world blues since u get poison immunity via heartless
I wish i could wear Joshua's armor and the Courier Duster together. Seen some badass art drawn of the Courier wearing the Duster over Joshua's armor

Light armor is KING in this game, and it isn’t even close. Although I do like quite a few of the medium armors. The only heavy armor I’d consider using aside from power armor would probably be the gecko backed reinforced metal armor, and even then I’d prefer the leather armor over the metal.

for radiation i use the spacesuit (+40 rad res) and I can wear a helmet/mask and ulyses mask if needed I add rad x

I don't use the reinforced Sierra Madre armor much outside of Dead Money these days since I tend to go for the Desert Ranger armor through the rest of the game, but I used to use it until the end. It is, in my opinion, top tier light armor. Can't go wrong with it. Regular clothes repair it too so that makes it even more useful. No stat increases though, but that's not a huge deal.
I really don't think any of the skill bonuses on armor are that good. SPECIAL, Carry weight or crit % are good but I always end up getting 100 in my high priority skills through skill books and levels. Also magazines exist.

Gladiator armor unironically the goat it’s a quest item and you can keep it forever if you don’t care about the fights in the little gladiator arena in the fort so you can keep the armor for the entire game if you just walk backwards and get out before the gate closes

In my current playthru I gave joshua graham's armor and the 1st recon cap and Raoul goes absolutely insane with the medicine stick and mysterious magnum especially after I got raoul upgraded thru his quest.
I love the assassin suit, paired with the 1st recon beret and a pair of sunglasses, stealth type character I sorta feel like Solid Snake lol

S tier light armor are definitly the best in this game, and they look great.
I usually play Honest Hearts early (Level 7 on current playthrough) and its Joshua's armor for most of the rest of the game.

I can see why light armor is very popular. Not because of the perks like Light Touch, but because there are so many light armors in Fallout: New Vegas.
I use the dead horse stalker armor as my grognak build in nv Ik it doesn’t affect melee but just aesthetically it fits for me
I'd honestly count the faction armors lower than their stats because of the forced reactions based on the disguise. It's a limited benefit with huge drawbacks.

Personally for my current build on my playthrough of FNV I think I'm just going Light armor since my character is Guns/Explosives/Sneak. Mainly laying traps and picking off what ever is left from a distance
I've played this game since 2010 and I have NEVER seen the All-purpose science suit before.
Followers Safehouse, only one in game. uses the same texture as Enclave Scientist garb.

@@gunslinginleftist 6 months after the fact, but if you ever have any interest in getting that safehouse opened, try recruiting Jerry (an NPC in the Great Khan camp in Red Rock, standing outside the circular fence structure in the middle of the camp), helping Jason and Bill Ronte get sober, getting the Followers a supply of chems from the Atomic Wrangler, then donating chems to Julie Farkas to max out your reputation the rest of the way. Last week, I ended up accidentally maxing out my rep with them with those donations. Happened right as I was saddling up to start the second battle for Hoover Dam. If you do that, you also get offered a lab coat and an invitation to join the Followers.

In New Vegas, luck and speech are the most powerful abilities.
If you kill every enemy from stealth, then it doesn't matter what your DT is.
The Assassin Suit is my favorite, even without running a sneak build because it has really nice DT for light armor, which means you can still get all the extra bonuses from perks for light armor, including the speed bonus. The stealth buff is also nice even if you aren't running a stealth build, just to get those first shot crits off in an engagement, or avoid a nasty fight. I also just think it's the coolest looking. Never liked the Chinese stealth armor's look much, honestly. It always reminded me too much of a bug, and it has too many internal bits showing. It fits what it's supposed to be, but I'm just not a fan. Assassin Suit looks a lot cleaner, and I even prefer it over the Mk. II.
Light Armor Melee is fun especially with the movement speed increase both from just light armor itself and the travel light perk.
Without jury rigging the gecko reinforced leather is my favorite light armor. Nice overall and I can repair it easily.
Caesar's armor is D tier in my opinion just because obtaining it requires you killing Caesar, meaning that Caesar's Legion will hate you, and you can't wear it around any NCR. The benefit of disguing you as Legion doesn't really help you either, as Legion assassins will still attack you and there isn't much to do with Caesar's Legion that isn't the main quest.
Well, you could cause him to have an accident and then pass a speech check and the Legion won't hate you.
I always liked the assassins suit in Dead Money. Simple but I really like the design. I know it was used for the stealth suit in owb but I sort of like the simpler version better.
Also, the OWB stealth suit is medium armor and so can't benefit from light armor perks.
Light armor is always better.
Why on earth would a rad suit be that high?
There are only two places in NV with rads that aren't avoidable, the one town and a small section in lonesome road.

I think you will get talked about siding with NCR then. Maybe, I don't know if I have done a playthrough like that.

My prefered armor setup EVERY time is: Eulogy Jones's hat, Lucky Shades, Viva Las Vegas, and a cigar in my mouth (from a mod) best armor in the game imo

That's a medium armor. So it is on that tier list.
Early game I like to use the
Basic leather armour until I get a set of reinforced leather armour but usually by the time my character is level 14 I use T45 d power armour and I also usually build my character for using power armour by putting 7 points into agility which counteracts the minus 2 to agility from T45 d although the medium armours look good I find that they always wear out at the wrong time and are expensive to fix because if you cant find another peice to fix it you have to buy one usually from the gun runners and that can cost a few thousand caps
The advanced radiation suit is rendered totally useless if you have done the lonesome road, ulysses mask has 50 rad resist..... Then top that off with some power armor and you are now a tank with a shitload of rad resist
All this time I never knew the courier duster had different effects and logos. Probably because by the time I get it the Riot gears are equipped and I always hold off on the main faction quests so I can get away with nuking both sides
The one of the radioactive places where the radiation suit is completely useless is vault 34 for that place a suit of T51 B
