And both pilots were heavily traumatized, so something was bound to go wrong.

This scene nearly makes me cry. It's that symbolism of a massive unstoppable mech and it's pilot being backlit by the sun, in humanity's darkest hour. The sole beacon of hope in a world that desperately needs it.
The truth is that the meaning is brutal but the truth is that in the words of the author, coyote tango was not adapted for melee, that mako's dream is false, that is, in the sense that the marshal comes out all calm, basically his partner died in the fight and Jeager was destroyed and the marshal was too injured but it does not take away from the epicness of the scene

This is how you visually depict a hero. So many superhero movies and it's Pacific Rim that gets it right. Even the Avengers assembling in 2012 wasn't this much of a spectacle.

Honestly, this might be the best scene I've ever seen. I wouldn't say it's underrated, but I feel like it's underappreciated. Imagine being a child, your parents were killed, you can't ask help from anyone, you try to hide, but the monster keeps chasing you, until one man, just a guy, come to save you. From the marshall's pov, your co-pilot went unconscious, forcing you to pilot the mech alone, destroying your body and even then, you were late, the city is destroyed, leaving a single child.
4:00 I love this character moment when he grabs the Marshal and the guy just gives him a *look* that tells him he screwed up in doing so. No words are spoken, but there is an entire dialogue between the two in posture and facial expression.
Maybe in normal situations, but when the fate of the world is at stake, discharging a pilot of a machine that is as difficult to control as a Jaeger for something you can shake off without too much issue can be counterproductive.

Ashley Smith Coyote wasn't a Very good Jaeger. sure he had one of the best pilots ever, but to be true he wasn't an interesting Jaeger. His kill count before being destroyed Was Just 2 Kaiju. Sure It would be cool see more Mark 1 and 2 Jaegers. I would like to see Blue Romeo and Tacit Ronnin and Cherno Alpha (the Mark 1 with the most kills, he killed 6 Kaiju, and the only one that wasn't destroyed until the movie, Better than Cherno were only Typhoon(Mark 4) with 8 Kills and Striker Eureka(Mark 5) with 10. remembering that i'm conting the kills from before the movie. and then, Gypsi had 5 kills yet.
Coyote Tango was a good Jaeger to an extent. However it was understandable that it would be destroyed since it was a Mark 1 going against Kaiju rated category 2, 3, 4 - ect :')
I really love the score played during raileigh's memory of mako's memory. While the whole movie was very well made, that whole scene, mana ashida's and idris elba's performance, along with the music playing made me cry like a little girl ... which i am but anyway. Too bad I could not find the score anywhere (exactly as in the movie). Every version I have come across has something slightly different, maybe the vocals are a bit more empowering than during the movie? Still amazing, but doesn't give me that same sense of awe that I get from the score in the film, when Mako sees Pentecost

Even then, its attacks are primarily defensive and not offensive...ok??
This scene is so powerful and so well done, it far better when they tried to recreate it in that trainwreck of a sequel, this was an amazing scene and an amazing film

I honestly admire Raleigh's patience. If I was in his shoes, I'd just say: "You just grounded the best candidate and I'm not fighting for someone this stupid. I'm outta here. You stay and watch the world burn knowing, that it's all your fault." True, that means the world would be destroyed. But that's just the way I am. I can be a hero if you know how to ask, I can be a villain if you're too proud to do so.
Don't be mistaken. Raleigh was the best qualified person for the job, true, but he wasn't the last on Earth. If he refused, Stacker would send him back to work on the Anti-Kaiju Wall project and get another pilots replacing him and Mako possibly. It's better, that Raleigh realized, that he really is an expendable item at this point and that he knew, where his place is (in the Jaeger of course, just like when Stacker recruited him after the five years. "Sorry, but my brother died there, I can't let anyone into my head anymore" "Haven't you heard, mr. Becket? The world is going to end, where would you rather die, here, or in a Jaeger?" Seconds earlier he refused, because still suffering trauma from losing Yancy, now Raleigh turned 360° and was like "say no more, where am I to sign up, boss?"). They both knew, where their place is. It's not like patience, it's just a simple logic. You make trouble, you lose your job, regardless on how good you're at it. Fixed point, fair and square.

This movie is so frustrating. It has great character moments like this. It has giant robots punching giant monsters. But somehow it came up a little short in putting them together. I can still repeat watch it though.

Legendary Pictures should had not been sold so easily. That franchise could be great, if the second movie wasn't made just for flattering their new stockholders.

I honestly admire Raleigh's patience.
If I was in his shoes, I'd just say: "You just grounded the best candidate and I'm not fighting for someone this stupid. I'm outta here. You stay and watch the world burn knowing, that it's all your fault."
True, that means the world would be destroyed. But that's just the way I am. I can be a hero if you know how to ask, I can be a villain if you're too proud to do so.
Don't be mistaken. Raleigh was the best qualified person for the job, true, but he wasn't the last on Earth. If he refused, Stacker would send him back to work on the Anti-Kaiju Wall project and get another pilots replacing him and Mako possibly. It's better, that Raleigh realized, that he really is an expendable item at this point and that he knew, where his place is (in the Jaeger of course, just like when Stacker recruited him after the five years.

It did surprise me Stacker didn't look that old, even after, what 18.. 20 years?? He was a freaking immortal if it wasn't for Striker Eureka's sacrifice. Damn! I cracked up!

This movie is so frustrating. It has great character moments like this. It has giant robots punching giant monsters. But somehow it came up a little short in putting them together.
I can still repeat watch it though.
