  • EAST LINDSEY PARISH #31: HOLTON LE CLAY
Holton le Clay - “Hill Spur Farmstead in the Clay”
Hello again East Lindsey and hello again Grimsby. I’m willing to bet if you live in the Southern reaches of the port town, you may well be familiar with this place. Located just off the A16 between Grimsby and Boston is the large village of Holton le Clay, a residential suburb-like settlement, or it is these days at least. Holton le Clay was once a tiny hamlet, but such was the speed of Grimsby’s expansion over the last century, its now more than three times the size. There are some really good landmarks here though, its not all modern suburbia.
The most obvious is the former railway line, which swiped its way through Holton from Grimsby to Louth. Holton had two stations on it, one in the village and one to the South. We’ll see what remains of one of them in this episode. Another standout feature of this place is its village hall, named the Hornets Nest, in honour of the RAF squadron that flew from a nearby airfield. There are three pubs, two playing fields, and a gorgeous church that dates back to the 11th century.
And the whole thing is twinned with the suburb of Sarge-Les-Le-Mans, in Sarthe, in North Western France. People love living here - and two famous ones once did - scientist Richard Collins and parasport athlete Hollie Arnold.
It’s a great place all ends up, lets go and see why!

Ah we've seen a couple on the channel. I remember another one in Pirton. That's in the North Hertfordshire Series, check it out!

I’ve noticed people’s cars parked pointing either direction as you drove by them in the beginning. Is that a normal things everywhere? I’d be afraid someone would pull out straight into me. Just wondering 😊
