Calverton - “Calf Farm”
Hello again Gedling, its been a little while again! With only four left to cover in the district, today we tackle the second largest here in terms of size - Calverton. There’s quite a bit to cover in this one. Calverton - which is often pronounced “Carverton”, due to the derivation of its name - Calf Farm lies in a small valley about 7 miles Northeast of Nottingham, and was for most of the latter half of the 20th century, associated with coal mining.
During most of its existence, this was a forest village, in a part of Sherwood known as Thorney Wood Chase. Its rural economy was limited by a lack of grazing land, and so handicrafts like woodworking and framework knitting were commonplace. Calverton can even claim to be the birthplace of the stocking frame, thanks to a man named William Lee.
Calverton has at least six properties which are haunted - and a road which many people avoid at night.
Did that put me off? Not at all.

That's a shame about the car boot, it used to be huge and very popular.
You mentioned the name Seely quite a bit and i was trying to think where ive heard that before. When i worked at the park hospital we had to park at the rugby club at the top of burntstump. On the same stretch of road is the Seely primary school.
Wait until you cover Borley in Essex. The infamous Borley Rectory was considered to be the most haunted house in England, and the site still attracts people today. Both the rectory (burnt down in 1939) and the church are reputed to be "haunted". So I'm sure you'll have fun with Borley when you get to it.

So everything I know about Calverton seems to be outside of the boundaries. The massive car boot, spring water Chinese restaurant and gravelly hollow which I think you called witchwood
