    I totally agree with you. Being a teacher, myself, I believe that students who are taught to think critically can broaden their perspectives on the world and improve their ability to make crucial decisions in school and in life. Awesome video.

    Hello Eric ! Glad I came across this video. It was long ago when I asked you that particular question about critical thinking ! By the way, I' m still deeply interested in finding efficient ways to incorporate this 21st century skill in my daily classroom activities . Way to go, Eric :)

      Naza!! I've missed you 😃
      This was from a livestream more than 2 years ago. There are still 2 more parts that share some info but I'll have to revisit the topic in the future.

    after watch video, we still don"t know HOW teach CT.
    ONE EASY STRATEGY: teacher asks "Is it fake news?”
    can be used for ANY ANY topic (nothing about news)
    the students (ALL ages!) will throw out curve balls!!

    • @etacude
      @etacude  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great idea, Kev! While warching the video I thought the same thing
      But there will be 2 follow up videos with actual ideas on teaching Critical thinking. 😄

    • @kevtherev8194

      @@etacude the problem is that your average ”teacher” quickly degenerates into teaching their own personal ideas - nothing about English; rather than students themselves producing ANY (crazy) ideas, and teacher only checks their English to express the ideas (with which he might totally disagree)

    • @etacude
      @etacude  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kevtherev8194 Exactly, that's one of the points I tried to bring up in that livestream. That we should check ourselves from degenerating into teaching dogma. Many do it without realizing it but worse are teachers that actively push their own ideologies believing that they are 100% correct.
      I'd like to make a better video in the future with some ideas on how we can check ourselves from falling into that trap.

      @@etacudei think the only way is not TEACH critical thinking. Instead, just ask ”provocative” questions, and the students PRODUCE their own CT - naturally - without any instruction. (1) Anything about gender roles always gets a big response, even from young elementary school age. (2) first introduce Animal Rights for turtles, Bambi and fluffy rabbits. Then, suddenly change it to A.R. versus my yummy Big Mac
