    Summary
    1. Dont take anything personally
    2. Argument....never to be last one to say ( appolize)
    3. Always settle argument privately
    4. Make student part of learning experience ( active negotiating)
    5. Walking away is strength (ONE ON ONE DISCUSSION)
    - always be on place of strength

    Thank you for this video. The number 3 is good but with the situation we have today where students felt privileged due to social media and no teacher protection when it comes to discipline process. They have this idea that we are ashaming them when we discipline them. So most of us felt we need to protect ourselves and do nothing instead so we don't lose our jobs or famed in social media negatively.

    My first week back has been a little overwhelming both personally and professionally. I decided to stay put home all weekend to catch on items so that I wouldn't feel rushed or overwhelmed on my return to work tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos on your return to Korea. I am glad you were able to enjoy the Phillipines. It looks like such a beautiful country. I have never been to Asia and it is most definitely on my bucket list. All the best to you !

      Hi Dr. Hemphill, that first week back is always a major challenge. If we're lucky we can prepare well but there will always be obstacles at home or with work. Fortunately we have experience and I believe that if we focus on the process we will end up on top. New teachers have to find a different way of motivating themselves, be it through excitement or taking solace in the truth that there is always tomorrow, they will make it through. Good luck with your year and I hope you have a great week!

      Good question T!
      I probably said it in some other videos but I'm not completely sure which.
      The 3 rules I give my students are:
      1. Respect everyone
      2. Treat your classmates kindly
      3. When someone is speaking, listen quietly.

    Hi Eric! How do you deal with young learners who swear in classroom? I have a new student that swears every time he makes a mistake. I try to make him feel comfortable and your videos have helped a lot in classroom management. I show him it's ok to make mistakes but the other students don't want to make him part of the group so he feels isolated anyway. It's a complex situtation I know, but I was wondering if you any tips. Should I ignore the bad words? Should I pretend it never happened and then deal with it in private with the student? Thanks in advance!

    • @etacude
      @etacude  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Martha! Great question. If it's an isolated incident, strategically ignore it, but later mention to the student that it was wrong in private.
      If it's obvious in front of class, you want to tell him publicly that it is wrong to swear ~ also, reinforce the rule about swearing by telling the class why it's wrong. Ask the student if he understands, if he apologizes then say okay, but you don't want to hear it again.
      If he doesn't apologize, ask to see him after class and continue so that the interruption doesn't steal more of your time.
      I guess those are the 3 options. 😄

    • @etacude
      @etacude  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Every week you have to start class by telling them that they will never improve unless they use English. They can not be afraid to look silly or make mistakes, because that is the only way they will grow.
      Sometimes they can quickly use their language to explain, but that is an English class. They have to use English, especially when they are doing activities!
      Do this every week and correct them. Be strict but understandable.

      I was talking to some Philippinos last night and some of them think it would've been better for them to welcome the Americans. I don't know if it's true or not but it's an interesting idea.

      @@etacude yes theacher erick but the question is not because of reception, americans and yes because they are speaking more native filipino language than english, does that result in what the american colonization did not solve at all?
