I'm 42 and a tesol certified teacher... next wedensday is my first day teaching (I'm so nervous. starting a completely new career at 42 turns out to be very challenging). thank you for sharing your teaching techniques and valuable advice. wish me luck!
Ahh dude. I taught my first english class at 52. Retired myself and started doing this. Incredibly rewarding! This video is greatly informative and, I'm sure, helped a helluva lot. Cheers to you
I completely agree with your suggestions and advice. I’ve been teaching ESL in Japan for over 20 years and the first 15 or so were very frustrating with their hesitancy to speak. I realized that they learn the other aspects of English at their schools and cram schools, so in my class I began to focus 90% on speaking and I see a huge difference now. I also love to praise their effort and encourage them to feel proud even when they make a mistake, because then we turn that into a mini lesson and all of the children learn from it. We all say thank you to the student for them helping to teach our class that day (with their unintentional mistake). Love your videos and even after teaching ESL for so many years, I still learn so much. Thank you!
Hi Holly! Thank you for your kind comment. I feel blessed to know there are teachers with a similar with regards to English teachers. I always appreciate the experience that other educators bring to my views on teaching. I'll try to share more ideas in the future. 😊🙏
@@etacude The biggest point I took from this is the "Do you understand?" question. I ask this but I often do not follow up to verify what their understanding is, if any.
I am a teacher of English and I am from Egypt . I want to say that you have a great talent in teaching and I realy feel excited when listening to you , Thanks a lot .
Lots of great tips here. Teaching ESL to students in the United States means that we also have to consider the student population's goals. I teach ESL to college students who are recent immigrants or refugees, and we have to target the students' writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills so that they can be ready to succeed in college classes. Certainly speaking is the skill that they often need to most, but we also have to help them with the other skills so that they can perform well in college-level classes.
This guy clearly knows what he is talking about. You can discern this from the logical arguments behind his method, even if you have never taught a single class. ~JSmith
Thank you so much Eric for your videos. I am an undergraduate in TESL (Teaching ESL) and your videos are really helpful for my studies and practices too.

Thanks a lot Eric for your great tips Tomorrow I'm gonna teach for the first time, kinda feel awful but it seems you gave me a better sight about it ☺️

Do you think it's alright to teach young learners and toddlers in class by using two languages (English and our own language) at the same time or just keep English only in classroom?
