Supergirl. I'm a massive fan of all the Tom King short series comics. Woman of Tomorrow is largely a Supergirl version of an existing book, which I don't want to spoil, but it's a great story to re-imagine as a Supergirl comic. Plus if it does well, maybe we get King's Mr. Miracle, Rorschach, or Human Target adapted.
I honestly wish they rolled harder on the "Elseworld" projects. Stuff like The Batman and Joker have proven that more disconnected movies tend to be DC's strongsuit.
They did nothing but that until 2013 and the did connected until 2017 and then loss connection from then on out with a whole 2 other universes, one on the cw, and on of animated movie universe and still made joker, and the batman. I think it's time for a connected live action movie universe
I feel bad for Gunn, there is no way the timeline announced will be successful. We need another project like Joker and The Batman to be announced, that will generate real hype.
@@Smeagol601 Big characters aren’t the only things that can be popular though. The characters he mentioned that you may not know about can be massive still. I really think it’s smart to focus on both bigger and smaller characters, which Gunn has shown he can do well himself, and with the help of other writers and directors. A lot of people had no idea what The Boys, or Invincible was until shows came out. The boys was in demand more than Marvel shows at one point, and Invincible is loved. If you don’t think a character Booster Gold with the right director and writers can do that, you wildin lol. Imagine Booster Gold being done by Lord and Miller😭🔥🔥
@@GLC48__ Exactly! The massive debt they've accrued over the past decade, canceling content left and right, getting rid of a plethora of shows and movies on HBO Max, disrespecting the entertainment and animation industry have all led to their stock plummeting to new lows. If the DCU flops, then that's it. They're done for good.
With Reeves' Batman trilogy already doing the gritty & grounded direction, hopefully the DCU Batman movies will embrace some more fantastical elements. I'd love to see villains like Clayface done right.
@@Jellybob69 Eh, even if Reeves does do Clayface it'd probably be an alternate approach to make him more grounded. Not so much the big goo monster we're used to.
@@Jellybob69 this pisses me off cause then he could’ve let them use Pattinson in other films. Keeping the trilogy storyline separate eliminating the need for multiple Batman but NOOO Some fans just have to eat their food separately 🙄
It would have been easy enough to just have solo movies for every Justice League member and finish it off with a team-up movie and just try to replicate the MCU again, but the fact that we're getting stuff for characters like Booster Gold, Swamp Thing and the batfamily this early on shows they're willing to tell stories by directors and take calculated risks, gives me hope.
I couldn't disagree more. Although it gives film makers a chance to tell some cool stories that people probably don't know, the average movie goer couldn't care less about these characters. I'm baffled they're going this route with a half-rebooted universe and introducing these lesser known characters. NO ONE outside of comic die-hards know or care about the Bat Family. And if you're going to have that story told AND still have a stand alone Batman, most movie goers are going to gravitate towards what they know; Batman.
@@PatstarDeluxe yeah I agree with you. I really don’t think people will care about that other shit at all. Especially booster gold. The only reason he’s a “cult popularity” figure is because he’s so exemplary of the terrible goofy characters DC has that people online were mocking it lol. Somehow they think that makes him popular? It’s morbius all over again
@@sanguine2552 I'd love to say that these characters will all be boosted to A list level like Gunn did for GOtG but with the confusion of the DCEU, superhero fatigue and everything else, I just don't see it happening. Id love it to, don't get me wrong. But.... yeah
@@PatstarDeluxe I know where the concern comes from but no one outside of comic fans knew who characters like Thanos, Peacemaker, etc. were and their stuff worked out great
If you ask me, Damian only really works because he's the 4th/5th Robin. His relationship with the other Robins, especially Dick and Tim, is a huge part of his character.
Damian actually makes a lot of sense considering they want to introduce a lot of the bat family. it gives us a robin while also giving us the others, admittedly without their backstories, but it's not like they were ever going to make movies of each character's time as robin. This also makes a ton of sense to approach it in a drastically different way from The Batman franchise. But yeah, overall, i feel like the slate is pretty risky, it could easily all crash and burn. But frankly it kinda needs to be risky, and I'm cautiously optimistic about it all.
Damien is also the easiest to pallet for most people as being a kid in combat as he is trained for it already. Plus his personality seems like the kind of family bickering dynamic James Gunn prefers to the other Robin's more deferential relationship
If nothing else this introduces Bruce's more recent status quo to casual audiences who likely never heard of Damien, giving future adaptations more "safe" stories to pick from.
Re-read this to yourself, but replace Damien with suicides squad redo, and Snyder cut of the justice league to realize you've all been making this type of plea for a decade
It's wild how the realization hasn't taken hold that this is just another way to keep all of you patiently waiting, despite all the failed promises from DC @@omalleycaboose5937
Introducing an already active Bat Family gives us an opportunity on revisiting each character's origins later..and them getting multiple projects. Without the long wait on establishing each character one by one movie by movie.
@@malcolmhodnett8874 They failed because the movies were bad. Edit: Also, there's a difference between starting with individual movies featuring established heroes and having a big crossover in the second film. That's not a problem of starting in the middle, that's getting too big, too fast.
@@youknowwhoyouare2269 leadership makes all the difference. All DC has to do is start making great films. See how easily everyone's opinion of The Flash changed once that trailer dropped? Now everyone is excited. Just because you fail once or twice doesn't mean you are doomed to fail always.
As just an average fan, I just wanna be able to catch a few movies to follow up with the continuity of a universe, like how the MCU did it before all the TV series came. That just makes it so much easier and I don't really have to worry about buying their streaming service, spending so many hours watching a couple of TV series to be updated on it all. I feel that Elseworlds will be a huge selling point for DC since creators can put their own spin on projects without having the burden of being tied down to the DCU
I have always tought it is odd that such big MCU related things happen in the series. Like disney plus doesent have that many subscribers (not is it avalible everywhere?) To throw such a huge plot point or universe altering thing in there, that the movie goers will not know about and hinder their movie experience.
I recommend just watching thingss if you enjoy them and not bother about continutiy. Thats why im excited for this line up, drops you into and already established universe so just enjoy the story
@@dangerfly just because they’re gods doesn’t mean you can’t make good stories out of them. He knows the characters well enough and what stories should be started for proper world building and forming eventually the league.
@@UrsaWarrior95 Success is possible, but it'll be more difficult due to the nature of DC characters. Thor is relatively unknown so you can play around and add tragedy and humor to create a three dimensional character. Superman is much more rigid and archetypical so fans get annoyed when you try and give him depth. His visual design requires the "s" symbol which makes it look like he's perfectly fine with promoting his super-ness like a narcissistic.
@@dangerfly Difficult nature of DC characters? Yes there are different interpretations of the characters based on whoever's writing the comic book. But difficult? Not really. The animated justice league cartoon is one of the most highly rated and successful interpretation of the characters. It's not entirely dark. It's not edgy. It gives depth on the characters. Why would fans be annoyed when you try to give superman depth? Superman is a boy scout. That's always who he is. He's not narcissistic when he carries his S symbol. He's the last of his kind and he's supposed to give people hope as what its supposed to mean. Saying sups is rigid, archetypical and a narcissist means that you don't understand his character and why he do what he does. Not one bit. I suggest you read on Grant Morrison's take on Superman and why Gunn is adapting one of the best interpretation of Sups imo.
I wasn't a huge fan of Damien until his most recent Robin run. In it, he confronts his legacy and also his attitude to things in a really healthy way. It's a great run that gave him much needed agency and perspective without Bruce looking over his shoulder. If you want to get into Damien, highly recommend the Joshua Williamson 2021 run
It’s about time we got Green Lantern stuff. The character(s) didn’t deserved to get pushed under the rug for this long because of 1 bad movie from 12 years ago.
4:33 Agreed. Skipping all of the previous Robins in favor of Damian is odd. Titans is a very popular team and we won’t see Dick Grayson’s growth from Robin to Nightwing. Not to mention, he was the one who spent the longest time working for Bruce, therefore their relationship shouldn’t be tossed aside.
I think this is one of those compromises you have to make when it comes to movie adaptations for these long running comic series. Comic books are drawings. But in the movies we may only get 3-4 movies focused on Batman because actors simply want to move on. You just don’t have time to cover everything and so I think skipping straight to Damian actually kinda makes sense. By the time Dick grows into the role of Nightwing, the actor playing Batman might already want to move on. And so by starting at Damian you get the chance to at least tell stories with as many Batfamily members as possible.
@@rakoonshampoo2608 yeahhhhhh, I just wish Titans was a more faithful adaptation to the New Teen Titans if this is the case, that’s a story I think really need to be told in some capacity in live action, idk
@@rakoonshampoo2608 could also potentially have a solo movie be a prequel for characters like Nightwing or Red Hood. Similar to what DC did with Wonder Woman 1, where whilst it was technically after the events of BvS they were able to make it a flashback to tell her story
I’m always curious to see the Captains take on stuff like this. He always has rational well constructed arguments regardless on if you agree with them.
He’s just being cautiously optimistic, offering no actual opinions. Which is fine, but nothing worth noting Plus, given the recent track record of DC comics, shows and movies, it’s an extremely misplaced way to look at this massive project that will more than likely be a massive flop
"need to avoid feeling like homework" When your reasoning on motivation and entertainment, such as the content of your hobbies, harkens back to high school at best I find it difficult to give you credit on being "rational". It is BAFFLING any adult actually still uses that kind of rhetoric, and tragic when it actually applies to any population that votes on how their world police military operates. And how it OPERATES, is providing a healthy dosage of propaganda in movie deals like Top Gun, while you're sitting here finding it difficult to assign YOURSELF some fulfilling work like... keeping track of these live-action cartoons full of messianic figures.
I’m very glad that Gunn talked about how writers/directors visions and takes will be valued by focusing more on letting them create. I always hoped that once WB got it together with Dc, we’d get things like this being done since they’re a company who’s had success with things besides heroes with big directors. Instead of the same formulaic, comedic, cgi fests were used to seeing in this genre, we can actually see these movies delve deeper as dramas, sci-fi, mystery, and horror all in one universe. Everything can feel distinct, and have style tailored to what a director wants. We really can get a Stephen Spielberg Superman, or Edgar Wrights Flash someday without the whole “creative differences” excuse we hear from other companies when they don’t fall in line. I trust Gunn, and I think this is going to be something truly special. Hope it works.
Yea. As much as I love Marvel and the MCU, I feel like they don’t try anything that new or exciting. They stick to the same formula, and I think they need ti try something new. Something DC could benefit.
I love Robin!Damian but at first I was a bit upset that they were making a Batman movie with his biological son before any of his adopted children. I hope they don't have all the Robins be interchangeable. Robin's legacy is important to me personally, especially Dicks story. I don't really get having a young Superman at the same time as a Batman on his 5th Robin. Gunn is being very ambitious and I hope it does well because I love DC and it deserves good movies. I'll wait for more info before I make bigger judgements.
@EdittZz I suppose that's true. I personally didn't enjoy Titans but I get what you mean. I am excited for Damian. Batman to me has always been about found family, kindred spirits. Its just weird that for the first film in what I'm assuming is going to be a big franchise is starting with the latest (main comics) Robin
I think Damian is a great character but people are stuck with the vision of him as he was in Batman and Son and his earlier appearances. He grew so much during Morrison’s epic and Tomasi/Gleason’s tenure with him across Batman and Robin, Son of Batman and Superman and Supersons. His most recent book was a lot of fun, too. I think Dick will be explored alongside him more than likely echoing their camaraderie as Batman and Robin. It’s a best of both worlds deal where we have a big Bat fam but can delve into the character’s and build them up still.
Yes, it is too much... these studios have learned nothing from the missteps of making comic books too hard to follow with multiple continuity-heavy universes... it's hard for people to come into new and it forces people to see movies they aren't even interested in because you have to know what's going on in the ongoing continuity. It led superhero comics to lose a lot of readership and fail to bring new readers in for decades and now the movies are going down the same path
There is a chance certain projects will tie into each other and certain projects won't. You probably won't need to watch the Superman or Batman movie to watch Swamp thing or Ceature Commandos.
Since they are starting from scratch people can get in at ground zero without having to know anything about the previous movies. The fact we are getting a more optimistic version of Superman should attract people who where turned off by the Snyderverse. People are excited about Bostergold , Swamp thing and Lanterns. And the Authority should appeal to people who want hardcore Super heros. Overall this slate should be highly successful
@@kwayneboy1524 no need for the ‘plus’.. it’s not a different point. You being salty about Cavill is why you are unimpressed. Get over it, NolanSnyder made sewage n it’s about time we move on. Everyone should be happy these characters are no longer being held hostage
It's gonna be the MCU all over again if done right, using lesser known characters and putting them in the forefront while rebuilding and rebranding the popular characters This is a hopeful announcement and I hope it works out the way it needs to
I think it'll be a Batman in his mid 30's with an established bat family for the most part. Like Dick will already be Nightwing by the time the film begins. That's how I'm interpreting it.
I agree with you, the fact that they're starting with Damian - a character that most of the fandom doesn't like and only appearance I personally like is... when he's the last Robin showed. But hey, we'll see.
@@tylerwise866 Yes he does but like I said he's not likeable, in my opinion. I don't mind the cockyness or how he smart he can be, I think does are his best qualities but I wanna see him fall a bit more and on top of that, I don't want him to be the first thing we see. I want people to see Batman with his first sons, his failures to bring them up and his pride in seeing they don't want to be like him. After all that Damien coming in would be a nice change to that lifestyle, he could finally be proud to have a son that wants to take over the mantle as Batman. A son with flaws that need fixing but something that is polar opposite to it. I think Damien is at his best when he's challenged to act in a way his father would but still acting like his own man.
There are a few things I wished James Gunn would change. The first would be for the Green Lantern show to be a movie. The second would be to have Dick Grayson be the Robin of the DCU, although I understand why they pick Damian as it gives them the most creative freedom involving the Bat Family. It's a shame that we won't see Bruce and Dick's relationship grow in real-time. These things aren't deal breakers for me, plus I have fate in James Gunn that this will work out, so I'm excited.
Lanterns as a series is the best move. The lore is just too complicated for a couple of movies. You gotta get people used to the idea of what a Lantern is and then get them on board with there being a whole rainbow of different factions.
@@LicoriceLain I said this too. Their lore is too extensive to do a film and that’s it. I do think they’ll get a film later on down the line, but a series will run concurrent with it to flesh out the things we don’t see. Different corps, planets, civilizations, etc.
I’m excited. Gunn is expanding the universe in scale and tone from the start in a very natural and interesting way. The scope is setting it up in a way to get the shows and films connected and able to maneuver about in a way marvel films didn’t have the ability to do until phase late phase 3 early phase 4.
Y'all said the exact same thing about Snyder and justice league do-over, then convinced yourselves a new suicide squad would do the job of overpowering or even competing with MCU

Considering what Gunn was able to do with the Guardians and the Suicide Squad, I am definitely leaning on the more optimistic side going into this new chapter of DC
im super excited to see what comes from the new DC slate. It's sadly been a rocky road but everything announced sounds super interesting with a wide variety of characters from big names to the smaller side characters who deserve a chance in the spotlight. And im glad that blue beetle is gonna be considered a part of the new DCU since it would suck to lose his him right when he finally gets a movie debut. Probably most excited about superman legacy since hes my favorite superhero and so far everything about it seems very promising, especially the comics gunn has talked about taking inspiration from
I am totally with you on the Batman thing. I am a die hard batman fan but I think the character has been milked way to much these past ten years and having two separate movies and continuity with him going forward will start to draw people away
I think it's totally up to the quality of "core" writing. If the movies will have good stories, it wouldn't matter if they manage to tie all stories in one universe or not.
Honestly i’m pretty excited for this slate. These projects look very unique and different from each other. I love that Gunn is exploring familiar characters and unknown characters at the same time. I enjoyed what he did in DC with TSS and Peacemaker, so i’m confident that i will enjoy these.
Honestly, after Spider-man having 3 diferent spider-men from 3 different eras in the same movie... I think everything is fair game and people understand several Batmen stories are being told at the same time and they do not correlate
I’m very cautiously optimistic about this lineup. Granted, I’m a comic book fan so seeing something like Woman of Tomorrow or Booster Gold on the big screen sounds incredible, especially sharing those particular pieces of comic art. I’m willing to take that risk, but I am extremely curious how it’ll pan out with general audiences. I think if the movies are received well, then they won’t mind learning comic-booky terms like “Elseworlds” and “Flashpoint” and all that. They did it with Marvel (multiverse, quantum realm, infinity gauntlet, etc.) so they can definitely do it with DC.
I loved the Swamp Thing TV show that was on DCs streaming service before it got ate by HBO. The best part was how they leaned into the more occult characters, like Madame Z , Blue Devil and Phantom Stranger.
DC will never fail, their characters are just too well known to ever run out of financiers willing to try again and again, even though I kinda wish they would.
Fully agree on the shared universe thing. I love the idea of disparate interpretations and universes so much more. Like, we wouldn't have Teen Titans, The Harley Quinn Show, and Young Justice if they were all supposed to be part of the Justice League cartoon universe and arguably Batman Beyond could have benefitted from some separation.
Generally the best thing about Damian Wayne being Robin is that Robin doesn't matter that much AND you get to have Dick Greyson as Nightwing, Jason Todd as Red Hood, Tim Drake with the Teen Titans etc. If you have to develop each of those Robins it gets a little soap opera-y for the audience. Better to have them seperate to start and just say from Batman to Damian "These guys used to be my sidekicks."
I think DC is trying to take a note from how Disney handles Star Wars, where they have managed to make live action, animation, and video games all part of the main universe canon.
This slate has some really cool characters they are going into if you ask me, I'm excited to see if James Gunn can pick the DCU up from the shambles its in. I am having whiplash from all the different batman's at this point though. Guess it could lead to a cool teamup movie in the same vein as Spiderman: far from home though. Only time will tell...
I’m definitely fine with the Elseworlds brand idea but I’m very worried for some general audiences because we’ll have to explain it to people constantly so they won’t get so confused I’m also glad that the tone for these DCU films don’t all have to be similar such as Swamp Thing being more horror where as a majority of MCU movies tend to have the same tone and humor like every one yuh know
Honestly, I'm mostly hyped for Swamp Thing. Mangold will be a great fit if he takes on the project. The best news for me to hear was the emphasis they're placing on the importance of the writing and not green lighting projects till they're confident in their quality, which places a huge emphasis on the importance of writers -- and considering how writers are treated/overlooked in the industry, this was an unexpected, but welcomed surprise. Elseworld projects as expected sound the most interesting (for me) than the canonical stuff. Idk how The Batman 2 will top let alone match the first's Batmobile sequence. That was the best Batmobile chase I've ever seen on the big screen, but I can't wait. As far as Superman is concerned, I wish James Gunn would put a cap on anymore Henry Cavill talk outside of dispelling rumors and misinformation. His latest attempt noting how Cavill "wasn't fired, just not hired" is a pretty tone deaf response imo. Especially in the wake of David Zaslav's project cancelations and Peter Safran's (imo) disrespectful vocal support of those decisions. That said, Gunn has more than proven his capability of adding genuine empathy and emotional depth to outsider characters so I'm sure his Superman film will be okay at worst. I just think it's funny by the time the movie comes out, it'll have been over a decade since our last Superman (Clark Kent) centered film. I don't think a rebooted origin story would've hurt, but obviously only time will tell. If anything, I'm looking forward to seeing the differing reactions between general audiences and fans of the Snyder-verse once this Gods and Monsters phase begins on the big screen
For this to succeed, it's going to take at least a year of iron-fisted control, and probably more like two to five years. DC has been all over the place in tone, theme, characterization, and certainly quality, across movies, shows, games, and comics. For this to work, it cannot have some self-styled auteur decide that their vision means everything adjacent can go hang, nor anyone who thinks their messaging is a higher priority than story or character. Gunn has a hard road ahead of him, and I'm not sure he has the amount of "no!" it's going to take.
You have some great ideas for sure. I like Gunn’s plans and I’m eager to see how they play out. Some projects may not all match up perfectly but I hope they do connect well. I’m glad that DC finally has a brand new vision to follow. I’m strongly looking forward to hearing more about Superman legacy and the new streaming serieses. Brave and the Bold also has potential.
Honestly these movies all seem way too eclectic, they've been trying to copy the MCU for so long but now they're going way too far in the other direction imo. The fact that they announced a canon Batman, a non canon Batman featuring the Joker and a Joker movie featuring a young Batman, all within like a year of each other. That's just so dumb.
i wholeheartedly agree with the point that this new approach could very well feel like homework to most people. im honestly pretty disappointed to hear that (almost) everything is going to continue being part of a collective universe, even if it's a new one. it's already exhausting enough trying to understand, and explain, which comic book movies are connected to each other, which ones are standalone, which ones require prior knowledge, etc etc, and this new delineation between "canon" media and "elseworld" projects just feels like another layer of confusion i'm gonna have to explain to my dad. i've always been a big proponent of the idea that it makes sense for superhero movies to have insane concepts and interconnected references to each other, because that's how comic books have always been. but there's a point where it becomes, like you said, impenetrable to the casual viewer/reader. i can already imagine how difficult these movies are gonna be to recommend to people without spitting out an essay explaining why they exist. every time these movies are brought up it's gonna be like "no _this_ batman is a _different_ batman, the _other_ batman is his _own_ thing, but _this_ batman is part of the _new_ universe that was created in the _old_ flash's universe. yeah joker 2 is coming out but it's _not_ part of the _current_ universe, cause _that_ universe has its _own_ joker, and so does _The_ Batman." i'm _also_ at the risk of sounding like a cranky old man when i say that i kinda wish they went the direction of every dc hero having their own standalone movies. it would set dc apart from the mcu and make it feel much more accessible, not to mention the fact that joker and the batman were both wildly successful, partially on the merit of them being completely independent. it's so relieving to hear the words "don't worry, you don't need to watch anything else to get it" in regards to superhero movies nowadays. that all being said, gunn's existing superhero films have never let me down, so here's hoping he can truly redirect dc's future in a positive direction.
The main concern for me and many other fans is the fact that we are seemingly getting an older Batman in his early 40s (41, 42, 43) and a Superman said to be in his mid 20s (24, 25, 26). The age difference in this situation is not very appealing when the two are supposed to be peers even though Batman has always seemed older. So, I propose a Batman timeline so that we can get the experienced Batman that has gone through Robins to have his son as a 3rd or a 4th (Depending on Tim's inclusion), and is young enough to be a part of a 10 year plan as a man in his prime. Specifically, early to mid 30s (31 - 36). Here is my proposed timeline; Bruce Wayne is 8 years old when Thomas and Martha Wayne are killed. Ex - British Soldier/Spy Alfred Pennyworth becomes Bruce's legal guardian. This is when Bruce's training begins in truth. Training Arc I: Alfred begins Bruce's training in order to give the boy an outlet and the means to protect himself while he continues his school education. Training Year One - Bruce is 8/9 Training Year Two - Bruce is 9/10 Training Year Three - Bruce is 10/11 Training Year Four - Bruce is 11/12 Training Year Five - Bruce is 12/13 Training Arc II: Alfred and Bruce travel the world in order to take a brake from Gotham. Bruce continues his education and training while gaining additional Mentors when Alfred has to leave for Gotham periodically to tend to the Wayne Manor and Wayne Enterprises. Training Year Six - Bruce is 13/14 Training Year Seven - Bruce is 14/15 Training Year Eight - Bruce is 15/16 Training Year Nine - Bruce is 16/17 Training Year Ten - Bruce is 17/18 Training Arc III: Bruce becomes an adult and parts from Alfred, the latter returning to Gotham. He gets a Collage degree, gains more mentors, and runs into Ra's, Talia, and The League of Shadows/Assassins. Training Year Eleven - Bruce is 18/19 Training Year Twelve - Bruce is 19/20 Training Year Thirteen - Bruce is 20/21 (He takes a gap year. This is when he runs into Talia specifically and begins his affair with her, siring Damian). Training Year Fourteen - Bruce is 21/22 Training Year Fifteen - Bruce is 22/23 End of the Training Arcs. Bruce returns to Gotham. He trains for 15 YEARS and has been gone from Gotham for 10 YEARS. Batman Year One - Bruce is 23/24 Batman Year Two - Bruce is 24/25. Dick Grayson becomes the 1st Robin at 13/14. Batman Year Seven - Bruce is 29/30. Dick is fired and becomes Nightwing at 18/19. Jason Todd is taken in to become the 2nd Robin at 13/14. Batman Year Nine - Bruce is 31/32. Jason is killed by the Joker at 15/16. Tim Drake is taken in to become the 3rd Robin at 13/14. Batman Year Eleven - Bruce is 33/34. Tim is 15/16. Talia brings Damian to meet his father at 13/14. Batman Year Eleven is where the Brave and the Bold should take place. We have a Batman who has trained for 15 YEARS, 10 of it which he spends away from Gotham, and has an 11 YEARS worth of experience as Batman under his belt. He sires Damian during his solo travels as a 20 something year old. All of the Robins take on the mantle at 13/14 which I think is the most reasonable minimum age for a live action Robin. Dick would have been Robin for the longest out of everyone (Which it is how it should be) and has been Nightwing for sometime at this point. You can Include Barbara as Batgirl and her transition to Oracle in anyway you like using this template. Jason was killed at 15/16 and is resurrected a couple months later at the same age range which puts him at 17/18 during Brave and the Bold. This gives him enough time to grow and come back as the Red Hood down the line. Also, I think that Superman should be in his late 20s (27, 28, 29) as well. And before people think that this is too old for the planned Superman, I urge them to remember the fact that their beloved Henry Cavill portrayed the Man of Steel in an origin movie where he hadn't even began his career in the Daily Planet at the age of 28. So the ages 27, 28, or 29 for a Superman who isn't having an origin and has been a reporter for a little while and is considered young would be no issue at all. A Superman who is 28/29 to a Batman who is 33/34 is absolutely perfect. And to those who think these ages might not work, remember that Chris Evans was 29 when he played Captain America for the first time and RDJ was 42 when he played Iron Man for the first time. They played their characters throughout a 10 year plan as well and I think nobody is complaining about the results. Anyway, if you have come this far, thanks I guess 😂😅
I'm intrigued by Brave and The Bold. The presence of Damien would imply that Dick, Jason, and Tim all had their time under the domino mask and gives me hope that we might get some spinoff projects about them. I would absolutely love to see a hard R Red Hood movie.
@@marcusanark2541 Ackles is so old now that he could be Batman rather than Red Hood. Honestly him as Batman isn't a bad pick either, but obviously 20 years ago he would've been THE pick for Jason Todd.
Dont follow Dc super hard, but I am optimistic about this announcement. I hope we see the Bat family interacting. I picture Dick Greyson and the other former robins catching us up on their history (like the “lets try this one more time” sequences from into the spiderverse) to give some foundational context as to where they fit into the family
The tones would match really well, and I've wanted a period piece detective batman movie for a long time. It would make even more sense now as an elseworlds story
How when the DCEU is being reset…it won’t be elseworlds cuz it’s the same universe that got flashpoint’d to give us the DCU. We just have 2 and one is elseworlds so it makes sense
I'm very excited for Booster Gold and Swamp Thing. I'm kinda divided on some other projects, but I'm willing to see where this goes. Thanks for making this reaction video.
I like the working group they've put together which should get the basic structure there, and I like that he emphasised the writing and a willingness to have a variety of tone. Obviously there's the potential for tension between those things, but if they get it right... could be good. Whole lot resting on Superman (fittingly), so props to Gunn for taking that on himself. I'm with you on the games, I'm very sceptical that results in anything but a very delayed and at best underwhelming game.
I have mixed feelings on this news. I feel I like having this timeline that is able to stretch across movies could be cool (if pulled off right of course), but I am really hoping that DC will continue to create these “Elseworld” projects, especially for Batman. I feel like this has allowed us, and hopefully will continue to allow us, to see different variations of some of my favorite characters on the big screen.
I totally agree about Damian being a little too 'Young Sheldon '. I think it was the recent slate of animated Batman movies that did it for me. Those movies really loved Damian.
Prior to the MCU people were used to the idea of a multitude of different Batman movies all completely separate from one another, i think people will mostly get it. In a lot of ways I think this will be like the animated movies we’ve been getting shooting all over the map for years now
I think the elseworlds announcement and the fact that James Gunn has been on Cavill's side on the Superman fiasco means he'll get a Superman movie, just not a mainline one. Which I think is for the best.
Saw gods and monsters and got hope for the zod superman son universe. It's perfect to have an else world story of more dark stories of the crew. I highly recommend to watch it. Batman is a bat. Wonder women has zues as a villains and the line between heroes and villains is warped
I personally don't like two Batman unrelated at the same time, but I thought of something i wouldn't mind. If i recall correctly Dick Grayson took The mantle of the bat for a time, with Damian being Robin at the time. It would give a pretty unique look explore the batfamily with his creator missing
I think Gunn has the potential to deliver a cohesive DC world but I’m apprehensive about the Authority fits in a world with the Justice League. I don’t think the DC and Wildstorm worlds really gel in that way.
Shame it's not happening, but Egger's version of Swamp Thing would be amazing. Good call🙂 Also never happening, but I always thought Ben Wheatley or Shane Meadows would be great directors for Constantine... the OG Moore/Vertigo character.
In my opinion Gunn already messed up by “rebooting some things, keeping others” when EVERYTHING should’ve been rebooted after The Flash. There is no reason Amanda Waller needs her own show, or Weasel from Suicide Squad, etc. All new actors, all new storyline(s) is what the universe needed, but they STILL won’t fully commit.
From what I've read the head at Discovery wants a properly connected DCU, which I don't have a problem with, they want to follow the same formula as the MCU First do some standalone movies for the characters with a post cred scene here and there which will lead up to a team up movie, this is the direction they should've gone the first time instead of rushing and putting out JL.
The good thing about DC is that the Characters aren't just in 1 City like in Marvel. In Marvel, Spider-Man might be right around the corner fight Green Goblin, while the Avengers are Nuking Time Square with Fin Fang Foom. In DC, Superman might be facing Metallo in Delaware, while Green Lantern is in Space... Or in Black Adam's case, the Middle East. So they don't necessarily have to be super connected like in Marvel, since they live far enough to not be heavily influenced Locally.
I actually like that they start with damian. He's not my favorite robin but I learned to appreciate the story value of having a robin that's trained to be an assassin. But the reason why I like that they start with the last robin, and the reason why I think they chose him is so we don't have to wait years to have nightwing, red robin and red hood. This way they can show up at any time they want and if they want to show them as robin they can always use the first half of their own movies to show us the whole progression, or even make the whole thing a prequel, which makes more sense than having the movie take place in the future and then go back to present day.
What do you think of DC's new slate?
Get a great deal on Nebula now: nebula.tv/captainmidnight
I think it's quite solid, hoping that they nail the new casting though
I'm very cautious of it. Hard for me to be a DC fan with knowing the slate so far :(
If it has Wendie Malick as Star Sapphire, I'm all in.
I hope "The Authority" does well
I honestly wish they rolled harder on the "Elseworld" projects. Stuff like The Batman and Joker have proven that more disconnected movies tend to be DC's strongsuit.
That's absurd. Stories are stories. Whether they are good or not isn't up to the interconnectivity. Just look at Civil War.
I agree with my twin here.

I recommend just watching the shows when you need to instead of when they come out. Like WV before DS2.
I have always tought it is odd that such big MCU related things happen in the series. Like disney plus doesent have that many subscribers (not is it avalible everywhere?) @@UrsaWarrior95 Success is possible, but it'll be more difficult due to the nature of DC characters. Thor is relatively unknown so you can play around and add tragedy and humor to create a three dimensional character. His visual design requires the "s" symbol which makes it look like he's perfectly fine with promoting his super-ness like a narcissistic.
@@dangerfly Difficult nature of DC characters? Yes there are different interpretations of the characters based on whoever's writing the comic book. But difficult? Not really.
Im really looking forward to that Green Lanterns project, cant wait to learn more abt them
It’s about time we got Green Lantern stuff. The character(s) didn’t deserved to get pushed under the rug for this long because of 1 bad movie from 12 years ago.
It’s hard to look at the Batman as an Else World’s story because it seems more like an attempt at a definitive Batman rather than a different spin.
That slate wasn't even all of this chapter, just part of it!
i know, idk if anyone knows that
4:33 Agreed.
Yeah I really didn't like that at all.

I hope they don't have all the Robins be interchangeable. Robin's legacy is important to me personally, especially Dicks story.
Yea i wish it was the first robin, Damian could come later
@Phil Rood It will be necessary to observe what the companies do with the live action projects on comics
There is a chance certain projects will tie into each other and certain projects won't. You probably won't need to watch the Superman or Batman movie to watch Swamp thing or Ceature Commandos.

After all that Damien coming in would be a nice change to that lifestyle, he could finally be proud to have a son that wants to take over the mantle as Batman. A son with flaws that need fixing but something that is polar opposite to it.

I am totally with you on the Batman thing. I am a die hard batman fan but I think the character has been milked way to much these past ten years and having two separate movies and continuity with him going forward will start to draw people away
I really do have high hopes for the Lanterns show. GL is my favorite hero, and when he's written well it's some of the best stuff in comics.

I’m also glad that the tone for these DCU films don’t all have to be similar such as Swamp Thing being more horror where as a majority of MCU movies tend to have the same tone and humor like every one yuh know
Thank You for the Video 😀
All this *and* that ”Crime Alley” project finally coming out? I’m sold.
I hope the new DCU work and great video man :]
I have faith they'll do great with this line up in DC
You have some great ideas for sure. I like Gunn’s plans and I’m eager to see how they play out. Some projects may not all match up perfectly but I hope they do connect well. I’m glad that DC finally has a brand new vision to follow. I’m strongly looking forward to hearing more about Superman legacy and the new streaming serieses. Brave and the Bold also has potential.
Imagine Ezra getting arrested at the premier😜
I’ll say this much from what we got I think it’s a decent starting point how it follows up from that starting point is a bigger question
Ezra Miller playing one of the most important roles, potentially in the DCEUs history and future is one of the biggest shames in Cinema.
I love how they’re doing a lot of new stuff that (as a MARVEL fan) I’ve never heard of, makes me a lot more interested
That's just so dumb.
i wholeheartedly agree with the point that this new approach could very well feel like homework to most people. im honestly pretty disappointed to hear that (almost) everything is going to continue being part of a collective universe, even if it's a new one. it's already exhausting enough trying to understand, and explain, which comic book movies are connected to each other, which ones are standalone, which ones require prior knowledge, etc etc, and this new delineation between "canon" media and "elseworld" projects just feels like another layer of confusion i'm gonna have to explain to my dad. i've always been a big proponent of the idea that it makes sense for superhero movies to have insane concepts and interconnected references to each other, because that's how comic books have always been. but there's a point where it becomes, like you said, impenetrable to the casual viewer/reader. i can already imagine how difficult these movies are gonna be to recommend to people without spitting out an essay explaining why they exist. every time these movies are brought up it's gonna be like "no _this_ batman is a _different_ batman, the _other_ batman is his _own_ thing, but _this_ batman is part of the _new_ universe that was created in the _old_ flash's universe. yeah joker 2 is coming out but it's _not_ part of the _current_ universe, cause _that_ universe has its _own_ joker, and so does _The_ Batman."
i'm _also_ at the risk of sounding like a cranky old man when i say that i kinda wish they went the direction of every dc hero having their own standalone movies. it would set dc apart from the mcu and make it feel much more accessible, not to mention the fact that joker and the batman were both wildly successful, partially on the merit of them being completely independent. it's so relieving to hear the words "don't worry, you don't need to watch anything else to get it" in regards to superhero movies nowadays. that all being said, gunn's existing superhero films have never let me down, so here's hoping he can truly redirect dc's future in a positive direction.
So, I propose a Batman timeline so that we can get the experienced Batman that has gone through Robins to have his son as a 3rd or a 4th (Depending on Tim's inclusion), and is young enough to be a part of a 10 year plan as a man in his prime. Specifically, early to mid 30s (31 - 36). Here is my proposed timeline;
Bruce Wayne is 8 years old when Thomas and Martha Wayne are killed.
Ex - British Soldier/Spy Alfred Pennyworth becomes Bruce's legal guardian. This is when Bruce's training begins in truth.
Training Arc I: Alfred begins Bruce's training in order to give the boy an outlet and the means to protect himself while he continues his school education.
Training Year One - Bruce is 8/9
Training Year Two - Bruce is 9/10
Training Year Three - Bruce is 10/11
Training Year Four - Bruce is 11/12
Training Year Five - Bruce is 12/13
Training Arc II: Alfred and Bruce travel the world in order to take a brake from Gotham. Bruce continues his education and training while gaining additional Mentors when Alfred has to leave for Gotham periodically to tend to the Wayne Manor and Wayne Enterprises.
Training Year Six - Bruce is 13/14
Training Year Seven - Bruce is 14/15
Training Year Eight - Bruce is 15/16
Training Year Nine - Bruce is 16/17
Training Year Ten - Bruce is 17/18
Training Arc III: Bruce becomes an adult and parts from Alfred, the latter returning to Gotham. He gets a Collage degree, gains more mentors, and runs into Ra's, Talia, and The League of Shadows/Assassins.
Training Year Eleven - Bruce is 18/19
Training Year Twelve - Bruce is 19/20
Training Year Thirteen - Bruce is 20/21 (He takes a gap year. This is when he runs into Talia specifically and begins his affair with her, siring Damian).
Training Year Fourteen - Bruce is 21/22
Training Year Fifteen - Bruce is 22/23
End of the Training Arcs. Bruce returns to Gotham. He trains for 15 YEARS and has been gone from Gotham for 10 YEARS.
Batman Year One - Bruce is 23/24
Batman Year Two - Bruce is 24/25.
We meet again.
Gunn said Superman will be 25 and him and Bruce will be close in agw
@@Michael-ww9zt If that is the case, then that's perfectly fine
@@Michael-ww9zt But I also remember the MIGHT before that statement. That is what worries me
Not gonna lie, Lanterns, Supergirl, and Paradise Lost are literally the only things announced I care about even a little bit
I'm intrigued by Brave and The Bold. The presence of Damien would imply that Dick, Jason, and Tim all had their time under the domino mask and gives me hope that we might get some spinoff projects about them. I would absolutely love to see a hard R Red Hood movie.
Jensen Ackles could be a very awesome live action Red Hood, maybe the actor from Titans too.
Aren't we going to have like 3 different Batmen then? This is why Joker and The Batman should've been connected to begin with.
Gunn is ballsy enough to do Superman Red and Blue. It could work and I'd like to see different aspects of such a well known character.
I believe in James Gunn
I'm hoping to see a live action Carrie Kelley at some point
I'm very excited for Booster Gold and Swamp Thing. I'm kinda divided on some other projects, but I'm willing to see where this goes. Thanks for making this reaction video.
Hope they introduce Animal Man,Captain Comet,Legion of Superheroes,Giganta,The Atom,Captain Atom,Creeper(Jack Ryder) and Bird of Prey!
i want justice league dark
They already did Birds of Prey.
Didn’t realize that James gun looked like Adam savage from myth busters lol
I like the working group they've put together which should get the basic structure there, and I like that he emphasised the writing and a willingness to have a variety of tone. Obviously there's the potential for tension between those things, but if they get it right... could be good. Whole lot resting on Superman (fittingly), so props to Gunn for taking that on himself.
I'm with you on the games, I'm very sceptical that results in anything but a very delayed and at best underwhelming game.
This just made me remember that we've had more Batman movie actors than Spidey movie actors
Side comment - Patrick H. Willems being on Nebula is a strike against it to me, not a selling point.
DC just brought their jumbled universe reboots into theaters. How appropriate
If they just had waited for Aquaman, Shazam, and Flash to release before they announced chapter 1.
In a lot of ways I think this will be like the animated movies we’ve been getting shooting all over the map for years now
If creature commandos is anything like the DC showcase short I'll be happy
I think the elseworlds announcement and the fact that James Gunn has been on Cavill's side on the Superman fiasco means he'll get a Superman movie, just not a mainline one. Which I think is for the best.
Was he on Cavill’s side? He didn’t keep him, but he’s keeping Ezra and Jason. 🤔
I think marvel always needed a creative mind Like James Gunn that knows stories instead of just being corporate
Saw gods and monsters and got hope for the zod superman son universe. It's perfect to have an else world story of more dark stories of the crew.
I highly recommend to watch it. Batman is a bat. Wonder women has zues as a villains and the line between heroes and villains is warped
*Its a nice experimental direction for DCU. But it could lead to over-saturation of certain characters.*
Kathy Bates is going to slay as Matlock.
You can see the guardians all over this. I think Gunn just really likes content that can lead to movies with big casts that can shift the tone.
A father/son Batman movie sounds freaking awesome to me
It really WILL be 2040 before we get a Batman Beyond movie
I think they'll make more use of the elseworld stuff in the future when the movies they're banking on right now succeed
I personally don't like two Batman unrelated at the same time, but I thought of something i wouldn't mind. If i recall correctly Dick Grayson took The mantle of the bat for a time, with Damian being Robin at the time. It would give a pretty unique look explore the batfamily with his creator missing
Not fully rebooting the DCU is the biggest mistake James Gunn could ever make
Agreed
I think Gunn has the potential to deliver a cohesive DC world but I’m apprehensive about the Authority fits in a world with the Justice League. I don’t think the DC and Wildstorm worlds really gel in that way.
Shame it's not happening, but Egger's version of Swamp Thing would be amazing.
Good call🙂
Also never happening, but I always thought Ben Wheatley or Shane Meadows would be great directors for Constantine... the OG Moore/Vertigo character.
Hopefully Swamp Thing will eventually lead into Justice League Dark!
Y'know, I am sceptical that any of this is going to work out, but I am glad they're persisting to try and make something cool.
Eh, I'm neutral on it I'd feel fine if it sinks or swims knowing it was because of James.
swamp thing is the most exciting news, hopefully it's not awful
There were two Spider-Man at one time, three technically. Tho yeah in a few years people aren’t really gonna care about fall the confusion
These movies are awesome and I can’t wait to see theme in the big screen
Regardless of how much faith I have in Gunn, I genuinely don’t know how anybody will be able to support a movie starring Ezra Miller 💀
Maybe because there are hundreds of other people who worked on the film who shouldn’t be punished because of one actor?
