Sorry to comment again but - you can mask just the clothes by 1st masking the entire person and then "subtract" the person's "face skin, hand skin" etc. That leaves only the clothes. I've played with it a bit and it seems to work pretty well. With your technique using presets, this should be a winner. Thanks again for the great video.
I'm not sure will LR remove head on every other photo since the brush is separate job on each person. But i will give it a try and make a preset myself.
My only concern with preset masking is that the masking is never perfect and you typically need to do some level of adjustment. It probably helps to quickly add affects to specific areas, but you have to make sure to double check the mask.
The healing tool has pretty much always been dog crap in light room, kind of annoying having to move stuff to photoshop all the time to get good results when im doing product photography. Like you'd think they'd have it down since Photoshop is their product as well.
The problem with erasing the balloons happens if you have done significant editing on the area. My experience is you have to spot out the items first and then do the rest of your editing on the photo. Otherwise, you can spot erase in Photoshop. This issue feels like a bug to me, but I'm too lazy to report it to Adobe. Great video. Thanks and keep posting!

Sensor spots show up like crazy and you cannot remove them in Lightroom with this problem. If you move the picture into Photoshop, then the spot removal problem is fixed, but the results leaves you with a new entry in the LR catalogue, which is fine, but without history. IMHO, Adobe has a problem here and they are not acknowledging the real issue. It might not be fixable. Look through their technical support entries. You can see they are trying to talk their way around this instead of owning up to the issue and admiting this might not be "fixable" for now.

Did you know that if you hit the "H" key on content aware fill, it will hide the outline of the selection, and you can click over the current selection to go over it again? Game changer!
Although not the focus of your vid, I mostly find the content aware fill in LR to fail to deliver in pretty major ways and the clone stamp also real hit or miss, unless the area sampled is virtually identical to the area to be applied. If I use clone, I often end up then applying heal to help blend and make the edit unnoticeable.

Great video, very helpful. As for selecting clothes, you can do that indirectly by selecting subject and subtracting hair, eyes, lips teeth mouth skin and so on. Then you create a preset and it is ready.
Great job with the video, quick tip…. I would apply all the AI stuff, especially the removal/erase before the edit of colors and light. AI will get confuse when you edit light and color and will be more attempt to mistakes.

I got 30 seconds into this before leaving. I can not watch over-the-top excited, hand waving, big phony smile presentations for entertainment purposes. It's so MSM. I look for authenticity in YT videos.
The workflow is interesting, however, I still enjoy starting with presets as the foundation for anything I work on. I have discovered that presets, especially the better ones can take you 80% of the way, leaving the final 20% for you to complete. Have recently been using Alex Ruskman's stuff which cover quite a lot of ground (mostly a film look) which definitely do the trick for me.
Great video. - thank you! Adobe just cannot seem to nail the erase function. Luminar has a much better erase function so I use the Luminar Plug In when a quick erase is needed.
I've discovered that you can save the masks you've created. Really cool. Thanks a loOot. In my experience, however, the masks I used to import from one photo to another, and especially from one character to another, are rarely accurate. I often spend an infinite amount of time removing / adding areas of them. There's an important question I'd like to know the answer to... Is it possible to subtract a previously created mask from a new one? For example, new selection (the sky) + subtract a mask/shape I've drawn myself already (not a generic mask like LR Classic offers...). I hope I've made myself sufficiently clear. I have an older computer and earlier versions of LR. Adobe upgraded my LRc and it pretty much gorked my desktop for editing in LR. So $#@%# frustrating.
You have to remove the balloons BEFORE you create the preset then you won't get the ghosting effect when trying to remove the ballons after applying the AI preset

For the second pass you can enter the overlay. On the bottom of the image you should have a small info saying: Tool Overlay: Always; just change it to never for that moment and its easier. I believe that you have it hidden, because I can't see it on your video.
A lot of the problems you're having maybe the computer you're on. Better CPUs, better graphics cards, more memory can all enhance performance. However all of that comes at a cost.

Forget when when did you got me updated. But I have been enjoy this for a while. But sometimes may struggle little bit in foggy situation on moutain in layers like landscape. I still need use brushing manually select the target area. Hope Adobe may make it goes advanced in future as AI photo is getting popular

Thank you for showing these!! Some great new tricks, especially the sky one and making it into a preset! The object removal doesn't work for me in any mode except clone (even then its not great). I basically go to other programs for my object removal needs, Capture One's is fairly functional, but I hate having to pay for C1 each month for basically just object removal. I am kinda relieved, however, that it isn't just me, Lightroom's improved (not) AI object removal "worked" for you precisely as it does (not) work for me. Anyone have a good, hopefully cheap, object removal go-to for Windows?
😅 yeah there are cool features in Lr, but sometimes it’s just insane how a free phone app can do something a lot better. Personally if not in LR I just head over to photoshop, even though Ps is my nemesis and I avoid at all costs haha. Let me know if u find something better! Agree with u on C1 :)
Unmesh Dida at PixImperfect did a video a while back that showed how he was able to use DALL-E to remove background elements and maintain incredibly realistic results within the areas he had removed items. Select clothing on a Person is pretty easy. You make just one Mask selecting the whole Person, then go to subtract and subtract all the Person single Masks (Skin, Eyes, Hair...) and what you are left with is a selection of the clothing and maybe some pros like aHandbag or jewlery.
Great tip! Hopefully next update Lightroom will actually ADD THIS as a selection, instead of having to do this workaround, which although great, is a little time consuming :)
For someone like me this will save a LOT of time. Many photographers in my area do photo shoots and deliver 5 - 7 images and tell the client "Hey, I have more....but it will cost you". I, on the other hand, deliver all quality photos that I took during the shoot. It could be 20 or even 50 which is a lot of editing time. This type of workflow will make this process a lot easier. Don't deliver all the photos. That's costing you a lot of money and time is money. 3-7 images at a set price and charge $15-25 an image after that. You don't want to give things away, that's how you get stuck in that hole that's hard to get out of.

if you're really busy in general giving your clients all the images. Then you're not charging enough. If you're giving clients all the images from the shoot and you're not very busy then your work needs improving. If your session rate includes the time it takes to edit all the images then no problem. Personally, I only want my best work out in the wild. I would never dream of giving a client 50 images for just a session fee.

You're actually able to update any AI mask after you do your edits! Click on the mask, and then there will be an update button at the top of right panel that you can click on that will redo the mask with any healing you've done. So in the example with the hot air balloons, once you've healed them, you can update that mask and those bright spots will be fixed

In order to select the dress try the following. So SELECT the subject and then INTERSECT it with SELECT COLOR of the actual clothing color (s). Works great unless the dress is also skin toned
I've been working with the AI features on a pic-by-pic basis because I didn't realize you could make presets with them - thanks! Also, the content aware feature is unreliable. I don't waste time with it and go straight to Photoshop.
Me too! Made a big difference for me :) Agree - I've had mixed results with content aware. For me giving it a shot on easier replacements seems to work a reasonably amount of the time

Just few days ago i have done all this and my head was like, wooow, this is awesome. 2 seconds for cloning and now its an easy job to work with editing portraits, just love new LR! Made myself ai presets for various occasions, but youve gone a bit further fore more versions of portraits. Great job!

Yup, won't be long and any dumb schmuck will have the talent to "hit the AI button" for pro editing. Right up there with musicians that make music on computers, not instruments. The enthusiasm over having algorithms replace humanity's creative skills is astonishing to me. I've seen some of the AI work and it is truly amazing. In fact, many of the AI photos I've seen didn't require a camera or a photographer. Oops! Went too far.
I get the perspective! although probably the same thing was being said by the og film photogs when digital came out, then by SLR when mirrorless plus AF got better and better… Imo the gear will get easier and easier, but the plus side is that the real ART of posing, composition, light etc are going to be more our focus, and less about fixing the imperfections of the shot :) Time will tell!

16:17 You can select the clothing there's a trick lemme share (And don't mind my English tho xD) So first select the 'Entire Person' in the Mask, then make subtraction mask by selecting all the given options like Face Skin, Body Skin, Hair and all and Boom. There you go your cloths are only left in the selection. 😁
Hello Ryan, thanks for a lot of useful hints and tricks that make editing easier and faster! - I'd like to add another suggestion for retouching the clothes, especially if there is one colour only: choose entire person, click intersect with, click color range, draw a rectangle within the shirt or dress (or click up to five different points): done. Very useful also, when you have e.g. blue trousers and a yellow shirt.

You can control the amount of feathering on your masks to ensure there are no harsh lines when applying effects to an imperfect mask.

hey rita! yes they are, but you cant easily turn them into presets so the workflow is a little more complicated!

To use the heal/content aware in the same spot multiple times just uncheck the "show overlay" option :)
or press the command key and select the area from which the pattern is selected.

I, on the other hand, deliver all quality photos that I took during the shoot. It could be 20 or even 50 which is a lot of editing time. This type of workflow will make this process a lot easier. Don't deliver all the photos. That's costing you a lot of money and time is money. 3-7 images at a set price and charge $15-25 an image after that. You don't want to give things away, that's how you get stuck in that hole that's hard to get out of.

if you're really busy in general giving your clients all the images. Then you're not charging enough. If you're giving clients all the images from the shoot and you're not very busy then your work needs improving. If your session rate includes the time it takes to edit all the images then no problem. Personally, I only want my best work out in the wild. I would never dream of giving a client 50 images for just a session fee.
with Lightroom's new AI tools, do you think other AI editing tools such as imagen are even worth wild?

Hi! I purchased your presets but I cannot access them when I click on the link through my email. I am also unable to log in on the site. Can you point me in the direction where I can get assistance accessing them?
You're actually able to update any AI mask after you do your edits! Click on the mask, and then there will be an update button at the top of right panel that you can click on that will redo the mask with any healing you've done. So in the example with the hot air balloons, once you've healed them, you can update that mask and those bright spots will be fixed

In order to select the dress try the following. So SELECT the subject and then INTERSECT it with SELECT COLOR of the actual clothing color (s). Works great unless the dress is also skin toned

I've been working with the AI features on a pic-by-pic basis because I didn't realize you could make presets with them - thanks! Also, the content aware feature is unreliable. I don't waste time with it and go straight to Photoshop.

Agree - I've had mixed results with content aware. For me giving it a shot on easier replacements seems to work a reasonably amount of the time

Just few days ago i have done all this and my head was like, wooow, this is awesome. 2 seconds for cloning and now its an easy job to work with editing portraits, just love new LR! Made myself ai presets for various occasions, but youve gone a bit further fore more versions of portraits. Great job!

Yup, won't be long and any dumb schmuck will have the talent to "hit the AI button" for pro editing. Right up there with musicians that make music on computers, not instruments. The enthusiasm over having algorithms replace humanity's creative skills is astonishing to me. I've seen some of the AI work and it is truly amazing. In fact, many of the AI photos I've seen didn't require a camera or a photographer. Oops! Went too far.
I get the perspective! although probably the same thing was being said by the og film photogs when digital came out, then by SLR when mirrorless plus AF got better and better… Imo the gear will get easier and easier, but the plus side is that the real ART of posing, composition, light etc are going to be more our focus, and less about fixing the imperfections of the shot :)
Time will tell!

The sliders show up automatically after applying the preset! This is only on newer versions of Lr though - older versions wont show the slider

16:17 You can select the clothing there's a trick lemme share (And don't mind my English tho xD)
So first select the 'Entire Person' in the Mask, then make subtraction mask by selecting all the given options like Face Skin, Body Skin, Hair and all and Boom. There you go your cloths are only left in the selection. 😁

Hello Ryan, thanks for a lot of useful hints and tricks that make editing easier and faster! - I'd like to add another suggestion for retouching the clothes, especially if there is one colour only: choose entire person, click intersect with, click color range, draw a rectangle within the shirt or dress (or click up to five different points): done. Very useful also, when you have e.g. blue trousers and a yellow shirt.
