I just built up a Ranger for myself in the green color with gold accents XX1 AXS, waiting on a separated shoulder to heal before I can ride it but it sure looks pretty,
Yup, still really enjoy it! It's a bit creaky which is a known issue with the Revels, but something they have been working through. That's my only small complaint however!
New subscriber here. Came to know about you & your channel from the fine fellas @ Sixes. Was in there a few months ago to p/u a few parts and they were building your bike!! Great videos, content, & music! Love your videos also because you ride all the places I do as well. Keep it up!! My Son & I really enjoy the channel.
Still have it, still love it! Same set-up, except I've been running the Continental Cross Kings on it and they've been grippier and faster than the popular rekon/dissector combo. Such a blast. I've been considering putting a dps and step-cast 34 on it as well.
Met the owner of Revel at Outerbike Bentonville a couple years ago. Talked with him at the bike wash station and he convinced me to give one of their bikes a ride. I returned the Transition Sentinel and made my way over to the Revel tent. The guy there was just hanging out and wouldn't give me the time of day. I didn't get to test ride one and ended up buying a Transition Sentinel.
Man, I’m really sorry to hear that. It really does suck when you have a bad interaction with someone that represents an otherwise awesome company. Can put a bad taste in your mouth for sure. If you ever feel inclined to give them a second chance, I definitely recommend hopping on one and giving it a span.
Nice! I don't really get into how a bike looks - function over form for me - but the red accents on the back of the seat, the stem, and the pedals look sweet!
Interestingly, the wheels, saddle, pedals and stem all came from my old Honzo I just sold. They just ended up looking so nice on the Ranger. I was glad it worked out like that. Added bonus, the function still exceeds the form. It's been such a blast to ride so far.
Such a sweet bike!! Looked hard at this bike and really really wanted it but right now in my life I can only justify a 1 bike quiver so went with something else but man is that ranger awesome!

The new "Downcountry" product segment is already proving popular and there are plenty of reasons why - light, agile and capable. If you had the opportunity to demo several brands I think you'd find they're all great to ride. I love my Epic Evo!
Great review of the Ranger. Can I ask where you were able to demo it in person? I live in Chicago, there’s zero Revel dealers around. I’d love to make a Ranger or Rascal my next ride, let me know how you hooked up with Revel from Tennessee.
Hi Eric, according to their retailer map, Aventuron in Sheboygan, WI is their closest dealer to the city. I drove a couple of hours to a neighboring state to demo as well. I’m glad I did!
My son and I met there before Thanksgiving. We shuttled the trails a couple times. Down the live wire 1 & 2 and the the other side down high voltage. Pretty technical trails. My sb100 did okay. My sons trek fuel maybe was better suited for the trails. The one thing I noticed about the ranger that is different than my bike is the reach- about 25 mm longer. So it puts you behind the bars further and that might be best for the steep sections at the top of high voltage. We did not get to do any of the playground trails at the top. Would like to make another trip up. Great video - good quality. Thanks.
Definitely worth another trip to explore more, for sure! The Ranger has become my go to bike up at Raccoon over the course of this year. Such a blast, and I've come to love it more and more.
😂, I hadn’t even ridden it since the demo many months before. It was only an hour later when I was overly smiling after finally riding it. I was way too business in the morning bike check 😂
i had an Izzo pro race, then i got a GG shred dogg as a "second" bike. i love it so much, i sold the Izzo. but hey, i needed to add another short travel trail slayer to my collection, and the REVEL ranger was on my radar way back before the Izzo. so, it will be here next monday. so much good to be said about this bike all over the interwebs, i cant wait to shred it!
Hey man im heading to Racoon today! Do I park at the overlook at the top and just make my way down the mountain or do I go backwards toward the entrance ? Thanks so much in advance. Really looking forward to hitting that rock slab part towards the end of the video.
Hey Kane, sorry I didn’t see this earlier. I’m laid up recovering from a surgery and just feeling good enough to check in this evening. That slab is back in the upper chunky area. It’s easiest to find from the upper gate right off east rim trail. Did you have any luck finding it?
Interestingly, both the climbing and descending performance as well as the handling were all notably better (or better suited for local terrain). The CBF suspension is super efficient on the climbs both in and out of the saddle, yet still more plush with small bump, chatter and larger hits. The Spur drops weight by using flex stays, but I felt this wasn’t a benefit to its tracking and small bump. Even though the Ranger is heavier, it feels more spry when hammering down. The Ranger picks up snappiness in steering with the steeper HTA. In theory, the spur should be more stable at speed with the slacker HTA, but the chatter in the year drew away from its potentional stability IMO. I’m a HUGE Transition fan, and the Spur is one of the most drop dead gorgeous bikes I’ve ever seen. Revel is just on to something uniquely special.
I did. Ended up being able to ride them same day, same place. I'm a huge transition fan, and the spur is one of the most beautiful looking bikes I've ever seen. I had my heart pretty set on it, but at the end of the day, the Ranger came out ahead for me. It's really interesting how the numbers all played out on the trail. I thought the Spur would be much more stable, especially in rough stuff at speed. With just a factory base tune and proper sag set on both bikes, the Ranger felt much more planted and composed in the chop. The small bump was more supple and medium sized (3-5') drops felt dialed on the Ranger. The Ranger also offers more responsive geometry and faster handling, great for our terrain here in the Southeast US.
@@SemiSendy nice. Sounds like the suspension on the ranger might make it a better technical climber as well. Mind me asking what size youre on? Does the slightly slacker STA bother you at all? One or two reviews elsewhere online mentioned a little petal bob and had wished for a steeper seat tube
@@mitchelllawver6097 I'd venture to guess it would lend itself to technical climbing a bit better as well, due to the general tracking. The test track I was on didn't have any significant technical climbing though to really say for sure. The steeper STA's definitely help reign in the trend of longer/slacker front ends, but the STA on the Ranger feels appropriate to its overall geo. As for pedal bob, that's not something that's been a notable concern. Even out of the saddle the pedal efficiency is super responsive.
Dang man, I hope you’re feeling better! I haven’t gotten to watch much TH-cam in recent months, but I’ve been laid up too and doing some serious binging as well, LOL. Cheers, Jody!
Comes in right at 27lb. My Hightower ranges from 32.5-34 depending on set up. The Ranger can’t touch the same level of gravity riding, but it’s insanely impressive for trail and fairly techy trail.
@Josh Camp I am keeping it! I have my eyes on a potential replacement for it that's coming our sometime in the next year or so. I'll likely just do a frame swap if that ever comes to fruition though. I'm still stoked on the Hightower though, no question.
I have. The new 429 felt a bit dull to me, for lack of a better description. I felt it lacked snappiness and the rear end felt really over damped even after a lot of fiddling with the shock, which I've found usually indicates a characteristic of the linkage design. It certainly wasn't bad, but also not great. It reminded me of the way the latest 'flex stay' bikes feel.
Hi looks great! Whats the weight? What size did you use? Im between this and spur for a great climber, light bike for long days in technical trails on the descend ☑️ Thanks
Dude great video! You have hands down my favorite MTB channel on TH-cam. Big fan. Got the Fbrand jersey cause of you and love it! Funny you got a Revel because I have been eying them up as my next bike. Looking at getting the Rascal though. Hope to meet you on the trail someday! Keep it up!
Nicely done. Those red accents look perfect! That trail system is exactly the type that I enjoy the most. I definitely plan to ride it soon. I sold my Ibis Ripley because I needed to size down. I’m hoping to test out the Epic Evo, Spur and now the Ranger. Can you tell me your thoughts on the Evo?
I really liked the Evo. Super fast and really capable. Pedaling performance was really similar to the Ranger. The rear end reminded me a bit more of the Spur, which may be due to the flex stay design. Both the Spur and Evo shave weight with this feature, but to me both just don’t feel as smooth on small bump and harsher on bigger hits too.
@@SemiSendy Of course it depends on where you ride. We don't really need the extra travel or burly tires (as in heavy) you are using here in SE Michigan.
Do you still have the ranger? I currently have a ranger and the same 2020 Hightower I believe you used to have. Btwn the two I feel like I am covered in terms of terrain I ride. Both are completely different experiences!
It’s not on trail forks other than an area called “chunky”. It’s off of east rim not far from live wire. It’s a open freeride area with several short trails in the mix. Super fun!
Not sure, the CBF suspension has a pretty bottomless feel, not easy to tell how often I bottom it out on more aggressive rides. Most trail rides though, I don’t get that deep into the suspension.
You mentioned about the steep head tube (67.5) so my question how does it feel at speed? Also how does it feel pointing down? I’ve had some steep head tubes before and it felt like the wheel was underneath the bike. Just curious on your thoughts!
The steeper HTA provides a nice snappy feel. It's more geared toward typical trail riding than steep tech. As for the HTA, that's fairly subjective. Many of my older bikes 10+ years ago were more around the 72* mark, so a 67.5* doesn't feel tucked under the bike for me.
That bike looks amazing . Do you still have it? If so, what do you think the bike is lacking, now that you have it for awhile, if anything? I am very interested in the Revel . Why did you not choose the Spur? It seems to be very similar. Thanks.
I do still have it, and I probably rode it more than any other bike in all of 2021. It’s a joy every time I get out on the Ranger. The spare is an incredible bike, no question. Ultimately though when I test rode both bikes the Ranger felt a lot snappier in the titan twisty stuff with the steeper head to Bangor, and also more poised tackling chunky features due to that CBF suspension and the fact that the Spur uses flex stats instead of the Horst link on their other four bar bikes. I really want to revisit the spur now that I’ve spent so much time on the Ranger though, and it looks like I’ll have that opportunity. My good friend Devon recently picked up a spur in the same frame size as my ranger, and we plan to get out and swap bikes on some rides together.
New bike looks sweet. I'd be real interested to hear your thoughts on that tire Dissector/Rekon tire combo. I am wanting some lighter/faster tires for trail riding and was thinking about those.
I’ve been a long time fan of the Rekon. Fast rolling while still providing good grip. I wasn’t sure about the dissector. Looking at it, it reminded me of the DHF which I don’t really care for. However it’s been really good so far. It feels really predictable in the corners and rolls super fast.
Uh Oh. I was contemplating between the Spur and Ranger as well and ended going with the Spur, now I am worried if I made the right decision. I have another month of waiting, oh the agony lol.
Thank you! As for frame sizing, that's truly personal. For myself, I look at the geometry numbers to see which size fits my personal geo preference. If your preferences fall outside of the manufacturer's suggested size, go with what you know to work best for you. As for the manufacturer's suggested sizing, 5'9" is a bit closer to 180cm (179.8cm). Based on that chart you'd come in at the very fringe low side of the large frame suggestion. If the medium geometry numbers look closer to your preference, that's probably the way I would go.
Bike looks awesome man. Looking forward to the day I can talk myself (or really my wife) into justifying a downcountry bike. Seems like the perfect bike for Raccoon.
The Rocky Mountain Element is another example of not judging a bike by its head angle. The Element is around 68 degrees but is one of the most stable bikes I've ever ridden. Incredibly fun on the downs.
Funny how everyone turns their back to you when you pass them on the trails these days. That or they hop 10 feet off the side of the trail. You'd think a person with covid wouldnt be out on their bike.
I’m not sure if it was that, or just the fact that they wanted to face down slope to make sure they were off the trail but safe. I saw them in the parking lot at another point, and they were super friendly.

It’s not on trail forks other than an area called “chunky”. It’s off of east rim not far from live wire. It’s a open freeride area with several short trails in the mix. Super fun!
Great video, have a ranger on order. whats your weigh in at??
Right at 27lb. You’re going to love it!
Love the new bike! Great job on the vid too.
Thank you, Gene!
How big of a guy are you? I'm a Clyde and was wondering how or what type of suspension I should be looking for.
I’m 185. Surprised how good the SID stuff performs at my weight, but it’s gotta have some close approaching limits. Time will tell.
@@SemiSendy lol well I have you by 100 pounds but I'm working on, I guess I can blow stuff up till I get down to 185,which is my goal weight .
How many times did it bottom
You gonna ride that at windrock ;)
🤷♂️
It is going to a bike park for a fun experiment this summer. 😉
NEW BIKE DAY!!! That thing is siock broski!
Yeah homie! 🤘
How would you rate ranger to these.
Uh Oh. I was contemplating between the Spur and Ranger as well and ended going with the Spur, now I am worried if I made the right decision. I have another month of waiting, oh the agony lol.
I doubt you made the wrong decision. I've seen nothing but love for the Spur so far.
I mean, having ridden the spur it was also top of the list. You’re going to love it. They are both incredible
great video man. cannot decide between ranger or yeti arc... ugh
Over a year later and I still love it to death for fwiw. 🤘
Nice bike.🤙 I am 179cm. I will order a Size Large Frame.
Size Large starts at 5'9. And 5'9 is 175cm. Is that correct?
Greetings from Europe.
@@SemiSendy thanks for the suggestion and info. 🤙😎
Nicccce build man👌
🍻
Bike looks awesome man. Looking forward to the day I can talk myself (or really my wife) into justifying a downcountry bike. Seems like the perfect bike for Raccoon.
They’re so great for our trails around town here!
I’m only a bit jelly 🤤 Sooo cool
🤘🤩
Yes. New video!!!
🤘😊
I just replaced my enduro bike with a custom rascal for the trails, enjoy the Ranger!
Revel is on to something truly special. Cheers, Alex!
I dig it!
🍻
The Rocky Mountain Element is another example of not judging a bike by its head angle. The Element is around 68 degrees but is one of the most stable bikes I've ever ridden. Incredibly fun on the downs.
That’s a great bike too!
@@SemiSendy I live in woodstock ga. They are covid insane around here.
What size you get?
It’s a large. I’m 6’ tall. Perfect fit!
Went with a medium. Seems like a great fit. What are running for sag? Thanks!
Sounds like a great whip, 67.5 HT, 115/120, sid suspension...wait, it's a top fuel?
Mate that was outstanding I actually thought I was on my wee Scottish simulator 😂🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️🏴🏴🏴 excellent 1st time I have watched your vlog well done that was brilliant :-)👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️🚴🏻♂️🏴🏴🏴🏴
Haha, that’s awesome!
Thanks so much Jaxon 🤘
How dare your 😂 at first you have one of the nicest hightowers in the world secondly today should be my net bike day as well but ist wasnt delivered and thirdly forgot your Insta Page again 😂😂
Oh man.... so many things to try to remember when doing these, it’s nuts! 🤘😅
Racoon Mountain 🤟🏻
Such a gem 🤘
No better than the Spur.
and the price....$12,000.......
For two of them? Yeah. 🤘😊
@@SemiSendy yea, you got the budget frame, the budget wheelset, the budget fork......you spent way over 6k
You can get the lowest build with the fork upgrade and their carbon wheel set for around $6300. And you can even go with a 130 up front.
@@tylerdominguez6471 Sorry, thats just nuts....you can get a Riply af and a Ripmo af for that price......I can see spending 6k plus on a race bike....not a thrash bike.
@@mustclime5311 you could definitely race it if you wanted to, just depends on riding style and type of race. To each their own and everybody has to have an opinion.
OBTW.... you sending a Sid? get your dentist on speed dial, you are going to spit teeth when that POS fails. Sid's are light weight race forks.
SID SL is the XC race fork. This is the 35mm stanchion “pike light” version. Incredibly impressive and nothing like the older SID’s or the current SL. I’m
More of a Fox guy personally, but one ride on this fork and I was sold.
