!!!BE CAREFUL DOING THIS WITH N50-640 I5 12400f GTX 1650!!!
    I bought the noctua NHU9S.
My motherboard is different, it has only 2 ram slots and there are things between the screw holes that stand over the screws' level. When you mount the noctua's bracket nearer to the rear fan it means there is a 2-3 mm gap that makes impossible to mount the cooler. You can solve using nuts to reach a similar level, as I did, but then you have to force the motherboard to reach the processor with the cooler. Furthermore the 12400f supports 1700LGA which means you have to use the number 2 hole in the base brackets (NOT THE 1 AS SAID IN THE VIDEO, for 1700LGA it's written in noctua's user manual). Ok, temperatures are 30 degrees better in average which is insane, but I needed 1 hour to mount the cooler and honestly I'm lucky I didn't break the motherboard.
NOTE: If you're able to install the cooler, no space problem with gpu and ram (4060 and 16gb for me). Sure there is an amazing noise difference and the temperatures in gaming are cut by half ( I just installed the cooler and nothing else: no other fans, no tape which is ugly to watch).
NOTE 2: If you install the cooler and nothing else, you don't need any cable, splitter or anything: just remove the stock cooler 4 pin connector and connect the noctua's one.
NOTE 3: As the screws kit in the description is unavailable, any other m3 should work you just need 10mm m3 and their nuts.
    Hope it helps someone.

This upgrade was exactly what I needed! My temps weren't unreasonably high to start with, but the exhaust (rear) fan had a harmonic resonance (sounded like blowing across a coke bottle) at medium load. Adding the small fan to the front (and covering the meshy vent on the side cover) killed the noise completely.

    Just info for upgraders:
I installed Noctua NH-U12S REDUX on my Acer N50-620 yesterday.
You need 4 M3 screws (I used 10mm long like in the video) to attach the brackets to the motherboard.
Temperatures went down by 30c, which is way more than I expected.
Only issue is, the case can't close completely as the fan is too big for the case. I think I will puncture some holes on my side panel later so I can close it fully.

    • @TNW1337

Thank you for the N50 content. I had bought one of these a while back on sale and immediately sought out any info on upgrades. I followed your tips and added noctua fans and a nh-d9l cpu cooler - super quiet and good temps.
I just swapped the Chicony ATX12VO psu with a 750 watt corsair sfx + ATX bracket and I used the COMeap 24 pin to 6 pin adapater (from amazon) and to my surprise it worked! It's been running fine so far. Just thought folks might like to know.
Also, there might be a way to pry those drive bays out (if you don't need them) and increase airflow from the new front case fan while allowing more space for something like a triple fan GPU to actually draw some cool air.
Thanks again for the great content!

i highly recommend for everyone who only has an ssd to remove the hard drive tray thing that is in front of the intake and below the gpu. just a couple of rivets to drill out from the outside of the case and screws to remove and it pops out straight away. dropped my gpu temperatures almost by 20 degrees when i also added an intake fan like in the video.
the tray blocks fresh air getting into gpu intake so this is a must do if you want to run your gpu near 100% usage without overheating.
i can now play pretty much any game on ultra graphics since the temperatures barely pass 70c.
if you have a hard drive in there just come up with a smaller tray for it or something because removing the big hunk of a tray thingy is the worst. really an engineering fail in this case.
thank you technitwit for the amazing video it helped out a lot!

I’ve used a few of your videos for upgrading this PC in particular just because I wasn’t sure what cooler would fit properly and what I’d need to make it fit properly. Took my CPU temps down from 89°C average even while doing mundane tasks to 57°C average while under a full gaming load. If you have this specific PC, I encourage/implore you to make these cooling upgrades. Love the content and thank you much for your help!

When i saw this video i immediately ordered the cpu cooler and the extra noctua fan. I have the nitro 50 with 3060ti blower style fan and i tested the cooler in 4k gaming (AC valhalla and odyssey) for a couple of days and the cpu temperature dropped from 80 degrees celsius to 45-50 degrees and never went above this threshold whilst in 1080p stays around 40 degrees. Great tutorial, TNW! I'm not sure if you mentioned it, but to the people reading this: be sure to press the power button after unplugging the PSU to drain the capacitors just in case, as they might hold a charge that can shock you and potentially even short your hardware.

Thanks for putting up this video and the hassle of upgrading this POS. I was helping a friend's kid buying their first gaming desktop. Rather than building one from scratch, I opted to start them off with a pre-built Asus as oppose to an Acer.
While both brands offer similar specs and price, Asus seem to put more standard parts and cut corner that is commensurable, like crappy CPU fan or RAM. This Acer is just a POS, non-standard case, non-standard board.

CPU started throttle after 84C, from 4.3GHz -> 3.3GHz, and stayed around 79C after that. Later I repeated and it peaked 88C and same throttle and kept around 80C.

The thing is though I can reproduce the overheating with my thermal paste. So I am leaning towards Fan or heat-sink change. I do not think so. it does not look like a Standers ATX screw Pattern, also you would lose all the front I/o. Best thing to do would be get a new case, Mobo and PSU & cheap heat sink.

    • @tonyboraggina6223
      @tonyboraggina6223 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes you can, but like TechNitWit said, you will lose easy access to front IO. I used a CoolerMaster Nr400 case and just used some 90 degree adapters to use the front IO slots through the back of the case.

Quick question is the mounting bracket for the cpu cooler already installed? , I'm at 7:44 in the video and it looks like it is but just wanted to make sure it was because some cpu coolers require you to take out the motherboard and install the bracket on the back of it.

Judging by what I see in your video for the NH-U9S, the Noctura NH-D9L (double heatsinks with fan in middle), that you also said can be used, will provide airflow rotated 90 degrees to that of the Noctura NH-U9S when it's installed.
ie From top to bottom in the case, whereas the NH-U9S when installed flows the air from the front of the case directly at existing back case fan.
    Is this correct ?

its pretty much there with out going to a larger PSU, If you put the 500w in you can do a RTX 3070, you could do 64GB of ram but 32GB is good here. 64GB is overkill for gaming.unless you are video editing you want as much ram as you can afford, CPU Is maxed . If you did a case swap, Mobo change and New PSU. the sky is the limit. you could do a RTX 3090 I9, 256GB of ram. the 11th Gen I9 are not worth it. Intel bomb hard here never got them right they overheat and do not turbo well to there 5ghz for long. Better sticking with the I-7. People where pretty mad at Intel about the 11th Gen.
Pretty much making the I9 11Th Gen worthless. This is also why I think they Drop the 12th gen so soon.
