My father was a GM in PIA. He told that the major reason for the downfall of this great airline was politics and the interference of the institution. They were hiring extra people who are not needed and they didn't upgraded anything. He sometimes had quarrels with the MD about not serving fresh food. Since it was a govt institution, they couldn't fired him so they transfer him from Karachi office to Lahore office and vice versa. He also told me he was supposed to become MD of this institution but they revoked it due to that quarrels he had.
Brother the reason for the first glorious years is that the first and second generation were from India and they were educated and from Elite class and once the Pakistani reign and management came into full power is all in history
Open skies policy is concurrent with the capitalist society and it also means our airline as said that was one of the best airlines, as soon as they got some competition with gulf airlines their true situation start coming up to the surface my point of view is PIA was never a good airline but it was only surviving when it was a monopoly.

But there are blunders by some, for example, you exposed the PTI blunder which was one nail in the PIA coffin and showed this PTI's policy of destroying Pakistan.
