    Wow, the last thing she said really shook me to my core. It takes courage to stand up against falsehood and not everyone has the guts to do so. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Ma'am Ayesha's insightful podcast, and kudos to the host for a great job! The questions you raised were spot on.

      @AhmedSultan-hi4gv 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      Siddiqa is not so Siddique What she is saying about Pak Arny is not the whole truth. She is looking at the things from one side only. Some of her findings or observation in her book Military Inc are valid but what she failed to understand that all those business concerns being established and being owned or run by Pak Army are not a burden on the Govt or tax payer. The Army is managing these institutions like Fauji Foundation on self help basis and any Profits accruing from these'set ups are being spent on different welfare projects like health, education,. These are self generating entities and saving lot of financial burden of Govt. What is wrong with them.
      Armies all over world are paid for their welfare projects.
      As far Housing Projects like DHA etc are concerned, these are again self financed and are meant to provide housing facilities to Officers and other ranks after retirement who keep paying for cost of land in instalments during service. The DHAs are not getting even single peni from tax payer but rather paying huges taxes and providing employments to million of people being hired in construction of houses or in the down stream industries linked with construction business. Pak Army is now the biggest employer in country.
      Ms Ayesha must realise that Army service is a very tough job over demanding profession with bare minimum emoluments. I dont think Siddiqa' has any of her sons serving in the Army who could withstand the vigor of life at heights over 22000 feet and face 50 percent deformity to body.
      Moreover our mothers and sisters and daughters sleep well in cosy rooms bcz the Army is there to protect them from both internal and external threats .
      Maintaining large Armies is a universal phenomena and not only in Pakistan. Dont you realise the multiple threats emanating from all sides of borders . It's the soldiers who are bearing the brunt of terrorism 7/24 at the cost of their blood. By the way, Does She know as to what happened with Bangladeshi women folk in 1971. A huge number if women and young girls were abducted by Indians directly under nose of Indian Army and sold out in brothels of Kolkata and Bombay. Does Siddiqa want same kind of scenario here. Mind you Pak Army is protecting the nation from a ten times bigger enemy for the last 75 years. A Again She should be knowing as to who invited Soviet to invade Afg and pose a big threat to Pakistan as well? was it Pak Army or Zia? And later who invited the US and NATO Forces there who occupied Afg for two decades. Do you think if Pak Army was not there, who could save the country from these Super Powers threat . More so, most of the major development projects in all provinces were undertaken by Military and completed which are now serving as back bone of economy.
      Lastly dont bluff. Army was not called in Islamabad in recent disturbances nor she fired any bullet. Aap Dushman ki Zaban Bolti ho. Army Chief openly stated that lawful agitations is the right of people and that we will not create hindrance except where there is grave threat to life and properties of public .

    Madam Ayesha, you have very nicely explained the most talked about & sensitive issue of our country which was in the past & it is today. But I would have been grateful to you if you could have also pointed out how to resolve this matter.

    Brilliant analysis by Dr Ayesha Siddiqa. In Pakistan Manzur Pashteen has the makings of a genuine national leader willing to face down the Army. But because of that he has not been allowed to broaden his political following beyond the Pashtun. The military of Israel is hugely popular with Israeli civilians because of its military record against Arab armies. Sadly the Pakistan Army to put it politely cannot match this record. The only Muslim country's army that enjoyed a similar respect is the Turkish army - and even this respect was compromised by its efforts to constrain civilian supremacy until Erdogan emerged and survived military conspiracies to eliminate him. In addition, the Israeli army has not taken comprehensive control of the Israeli economy. Its influence over Israeli strategy flows from its record of success on the battlefield and not the abuse of its power against its own civilian leadership as has happened in Pakistan. Of course, the whole of Israel including its IDF is a raging cancer implanted in the body politic of the Arab world. Nevertheless, inefficient and greedy militaries may conquer their own civilians but they can never conquer the enemy. The only solution to this challenge lies in organizing and sustaining civilian resistance. Imran Khan today is the only leader attempting to do this.

    Her comments on America and disadvantages of privatisation are of next level because most of our so called intellectuals keep playing in the hands of ultra elite industrialists to speak rubbish against public institutions. Listening this critical commentary from a lady who is a professor London and still loyal to Pakistan’s public interests as most of other people like Miftah and Ayesha Jalal keep pretending to be liberal by defending undefendable . Salute to anchor as well!
