    inb4 "You only hate it because you suck at it!"
    You're absolutely right that I suck at it, but there are plenty of games that I suck at and still think are fun. And if I can play all the way through a game multiple times and it still doesn't "click," I don't think it's unreasonable to eventually throw up my hands and decide that it's just not a fun game.

    One thing that makes me absolutely livid about this game is how quickly people will say "take the time to get used to the controls and then you'll like the game", but I have been saying the same thing for literally YEARS about Star Fox Assault and its on foot ground missions. The controls do take a bit to get used to, sure, but once you get the hang of them, the missions are extremely fun. Assault gets no love, despite it being one of the few games in the series that actually expanded the Star Fox universe.

      As mich as I love TGX Game Reviews for how analytical, hilarious (words cannot even describe how funny he can be at best), unpredictably creative and unbiased (for the most part, more on that now) he can be, there is one reason why he’s ALMOST one of my favourite TH-camrs. He can be a hypocrite by slamming great games for having “cynical nostalgia” (aka the “Twinsanity Effect”) like Retro City Rampage, Mega Man 9 & 10, Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy and Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, yet even when he was aware of the problem with Star Fox Zero in his review of that game (which is that instead of naturally evolve the franchise like Star Fox Assault Al the best game in the franchise since Star Fox 64, it regressed into a rehash of Star Fox 64, and no, it didn’t even come up with its own story like he said!), he would compare haters of motion controls to babies, and I mean those that use their age as an excuse to do such annoying things like cry all the time even if he gets what he wants!!!! God, SFZ, like Star Fox Command, is overrated because people just love to hate on a perfectly valid review like this instead of realize that as many great things as Nintendo can do, they can also screw up a lot of the time!

    • @garfieldcat007
      @garfieldcat007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Eh? Sorry you lost me at "extremely fun." When I played those "extremely fun" missions, they consisted of: find enemy respond devices and destroy them, and sometimes break away to destroy airborne enemies before enemy bar fills up. Mission Accomplished! Now do the extract same thing in a different level, perhaps this time with an ally whose AI is only capable of moving within a contained proximity and shooting any baddies that come into said proximity, and maybe we'll reward you with a "TURRENT SECTION!" Whoopie! And good luck if your doing that on a level with multiple floors since the radar becomes really unhelpful trying find respond devices, especially if you have to navigate multiple confusing rooms just to find some way to ascend/descend "cough" Aparoid Homeworld "cough." And why do the in-game models and on foot levels look worse than Star Fox Adventure, a game that came three years prior? And if the graphics are bad, why do the on all-range mode sections drop to 30 frames per second when the on-rails parts perfectly achieve a flawless 60 frames? Even if you learn to TOLERATE (not love) both the way-overly sensitive aiming and movement while on foot and the plot that tricked people into thinking it was smarter and darker than it actually was (spoiler, everybody lives!), the main campaign is over in a couple hours after a mere 10 missions with no branching paths.
      There's only two redeeming parts of the game for me. One of these is the OST, which features great remixes of 64's as well as solid original tracks (I do admit I especially like how the menu music starts up). The other is the multiplayer which I will admit is vastly superior than 64's even. All the loads of options, weapons, and vehicles make it a blast even if the problems in the campaign persist through here too, because you only have to deal with 1-3 other players instead of hoards of mindless baddies that overcrowd the levels. This is the only reason I kept the game, even if I had to suffer the campaign to unlock everything, and is what I feel really the only reason people have fond memories of this game. Oh yeah, you can also unlock Xevious... it's not the arcade version, just the NES port, but it's still alright.
      These are just my opinions, though. You have different opinions. You may even like the stuff I hated. I respect that, more power to you. I WILL say: I think Star Fox Assault is a flawed but great multiplayer game, but an awful single-player game (64's campaign mode has yet to be topped). At least that is more than I can say for Zero, which is just a awful solo-player travesty.

      +ZeddtheVHSotaku Nah, that should've been the 3DS one instead of them just forcing a cringey remake...only to reboot the series next game. That would've made for a great jumping on point for new fans as well as give old fans some new content. Unfortunately, Nintendo has no idea what to do with this series and have basically been using it as a means to promote hardware over actual game play ever since Command.

      I've gotten this question a lot, so I guess I'll finally answer, haha.
      I did hate the game, but I could recognize that there was at least a mediocre game underneath the surface. The graphics weren't good at all, but they weren't offensively bad. Basically a 1 is reserved for a game with effectively no redeeming qualities whatsoever, a game that's purely broken garbage. Star Fox Zero, while not fun in the slightest to me, was the next step above that. Soon I want to do a video explaining my review system, so this sort of thing will be talked about there.

There are tons of unlocks, multiple difficulties, and the best multiplayer I've ever played on a console game.

    I don't believe anyone who even _attempts_ to argue that this control scheme is better once you get used to it. Wanna know why?
    Because they intentionally nerfed the main screen. If the new control scheme were actually better, they could've made the main screen have an accurate aiming system like the other games and then _people would have used the game pad view on their own_. But instead, they intentionally made it so that aiming is useless on the main screen to _force_ people to use the game pad view.

    • @Soandnb
      @Soandnb 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +SuperZez I think the reason why the reticle feels so "off" is that laser shots go a lot farther in this game, and enemy placements are a lot farther away as well.

      Creating a solution to a problem you (as the developer) made up seems like poor game design. Like rock Pikmin, which could easily be replaced by purple Pikmin. However, flying Pikmin were a good addition because it solved a problem that already existed in the world normally, transporting goods over bridges/water/enemies.

    • @beyondz55
      @beyondz55 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Excarius Can you clarify what you mean by "controls on the main screen"? There's only one way to control this game as it is displayed on 2 screens. You have to use the joystick, buttons and gyro all together in one control scheme. So you meant you think the control scheme is terrible...okay. Did you get good enough to get all the medals when you played it though? I just got the 370 hits medal on Corneria 2 after about 30 tries. It felt as rewarding as when I beat a game like Bloodborne. I think the controls are fine when you get better at them. OTOH I think the controls on foot in Star Fox Assault are terrible and unrewarding.

    I feel sorry for the people who wasted their hard earned cash on big badass HD smart TV's only to play this game and find themselves being forced to stare at a low res 6.2 inch game pad screen about 50% of the time.
    Also, even if it is a "reboot". Nintendo are really trying to remind the players about Starfox 64 (A much better game). Right down to the recycled plotline, quotes, music, characters and bosses. Why try to innovate when you can just use good ol' nostalgia to drive sales?
    I'm gonna say it, but I thought Starfox Assault was a better game. At least it felt like an actual sequel and had a more compelling plot than this gimmicky rehashed garbage.

    • @OnlyGoken
      @OnlyGoken 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Mark Haynes (Alvin-Earthworm) There's homages to their predecessors, like what Kirby often does with references to classic Kirby, and/or boss battles from older Kirby games, then there's revamping an older nostalgic memory to make it modernized in a positive way, like Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, and references to visiting older areas from previous games, like Pikmin 2 and 3 do on occasion. There's also taking archaic things or translation errors and turning them to jokes, like Kid Icarus Uprising. But then there's blatantly stealing only the things people LOVE, like Pokémon X/Y did. Star Fox Zero seems to be in the X/Y category, from the little I've seen. It references its predecessors, and tries to recycle them, but it loses what made it unique while trying to do so. Now, is it as bad as I found X/Y to be? Maybe not, but I'll find out someday. It can't be worse than Sticker Star... not in terms of homages, just in general, it can't be worse than Sticker Star.

    • @AlvinEarthworm
      @AlvinEarthworm 8 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      ***** I actually liked X/Y. At least it tried something new with the Mega Evolutions and has now grown out of the sprite artwork.
      Starfox Zero was a lazy dispassionate gimmicky cash grab.

    • @OnlyGoken
      @OnlyGoken 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mark Haynes
      Eh, fair enough. I just felt X/Y was too reliant on the nostalgia factor from Gen 1, and Cyrus from Gen 4 when making the game. Mega Evolution is interesting in theory, but it was somewhat botched in its execution. Some are balanced, like Mega Absol, and some are down-right broken, like Mega Kangaskhan, and, of course, Mega Rayquaza. I hope Gen VII changes things up with Mega Evolution to make it more balanced. That, and X/Y had a pretty sucky after game, compared to its predecessors.
      Still, I suppose Star Fox Zero seems like one of those "Good on paper, but executed terribly" types of games. The dual screen gameplay worked well for Kid Icarus Uprising, albeit taking time to get used to. For a game where you focus on two screens at once at the same exact time, it looks like literal hell to go through.

    • @DevilHunter1994
      @DevilHunter1994 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Mark Haynes (Alvin-Earthworm) I freaking hate the dual screen mechanic. Thankfully I've learned to play the game without ever having to use it and I'm enjoying the game now, but that first playthrough was filled with more than its fair share of frustration. I can actually see why they chose to reboot the series. Assault left the story on a pretty good note, but Command's story was a complete train wreck. It pretty much took all the joy and fun out of the universe. After Command, I'm not surprised someone decided it was time to hit the reset button.

      I mean after the disastrous story of command on the DS this isn't to shocking to go back to the beginning. Besides it's been 10 years since Command so going back to basics was probably a good call since continuity isn't the best in this series. Also since many hated Assault and especially Adventures. The motion control stuff hell no that's just dumb and stupid but the story thing I kinda get especially since Star Fox isn't that big of a series. It's kinda one hit wonder with all it's other games having fans but never being too popular.

    It saddens me to say this, but I think miyamoto is passed his prime.... His constant push for innovation for innovations sake is what lead to abominations like sticker star and this. And his inability to come up with new innovations for F-zero is why we haven't gotten a new game in the series that desperately needs a new game. I'm kind of glad there isn't a new F-zero now that I think about it. Motion controls wouldn't work for that game.

      Youre right. Miyamoto has so much respect that most people he works with are afraid to talk some sense into him. He's like George Lucas in that regard. Same. Loved assault and my only gripes with it were that the singleplayer campaign could've been longer/given you more to do and the on-foot sections(landmaster is always awesome in my book though). Though, the multiplayer in that game was fantastic so it kind of makes up for that.

    • @PANICBLADE
      @PANICBLADE 8 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      The flying sections and story for Assault were spot on. It was much more linear than 64, but it was still a great game that I played a lot. The "out of the cockpit" sections were ok but noticably unpolished, and the controls were meh. The wing shooting sections were fun but also kind of irritating sometimes. I'm surprised so many people forget about Assault. It was a very worthy successor to 64 in my opinion. The aparoids were a very intimidating threat and awesome concept. No Andross needed. Starfox is the one series NOBODY wants Nintendo to reinvent, but the only one they can't stop trying to reinvent. It's really weird.

    • @amihartz
      @amihartz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The flying sections in Assault was great but I felt like the majority of the time was in the on-ground sections and many of them were godawful. A couple were... okay but some were just plain bad. If you removed them all from the game then it'd be a great game but with them, I honestly just prefer 64.

    Star Fox Zero is an interesting game. Some people get to grips with the controls pretty quickly. And some people just haaaaate them.
    But neither side understands the other. It's hard to imagine the controls being annoying because for that player they are not. And it's hard to imagine people liking the controls, when you absolutely hate them.
    So it's a case of "well..I liked the controls and thus I loved the game" vs "well, I hated the controls and thus loathed the game".
    So that's why you have two sides of people who just cannot agree because it's just so divisive. And that's where the game absolutely fails.
    I love the game, I really love it, it's what I've been waiting for since 64. BUT, the fact the game is so divisive and inaccessible for a ton of people is really a problem. Nintendo games have always tried to be as accessible as possible, so to have a game like this is a bit anti-Nintendo.

I love how child-friendly you seem yet you offer such good wisdom, kindness and fairness that even adults can and should learn from. Your content is still just as enjoyable as the other guy who might make reviews with lots of dirty jokes while you talk about it with the most level headed, clear mindset.
    Maybe its because you and your personality already agrees with me that I think this way but it makes me happy to see someone actually critique a game properly and look at it and fairly dissect it. Even if you where not to like it, you'd turn around and say that "its alright if you do" and accept the fact and admit to the viewers that its great they can enjoy it, and see why they do as well. Such maturity and wisdom, or just how you put out things is not something i'd see from my other favorite youtubers and reviewers. Even your other videos have similar charm that just makes me smile, even if your talking bad 'bout something. I an actually stand to listen to you.

    I absolutely hate that they removed Krystal and took back Peppy tbh, sure they was it to be like Starfox 64, but they basicly just made ALL the progress the starfox team has made since 64 completely irrelevant. Adventures? Didn't happen. Command? Didn't happen. Even Assault which was a pretty darn good game appearently didn't happen. Because people begged for a straight up Starfox 64 follow up so they just.. I don't understand what even happened.

      I wouldn't mind a sequel to Assault. I enjoyed that game quite a bit. I would want a new game to focus mostly on the Arwing and other vehicles though. An on foot mission here or there is fine, but I really do feel Star Fox is at its absolute best when the levels are on rails. As far as command goes though....I would be genuinely overjoyed if they completely removed that game from the canon altogether. I hated almost everything about the game; the controls, the levels, the story, and of course the endings. Really the only thing I liked about Command was how they allowed you to play as other characters besides Fox. That was cool and I like how all the ships had unique abilities.

    ASSAULT. Assault was on the GameCube and it was FANTASTIC and NO ONE TALKS ABOUT IT and I cannot for the life of me figure out why. It had a new villain, decent story with character development for dang near everyone, an absolutely stellar soundtrack, while combining traditional gameplay AND ground based combat that was LITERALLY THIRD PERSON METROID PRIME, a game that everybody RAVES about and yet Assault gets shut out and treated like garbage because it's not 100% "traditional." God, this makes me so mad.
    And battle modes? I used to bring Assault to sleepovers and we would ditch Melee, frigging MELEE, for Assault because it was that good. I have memories of shooting down my friends' Arwings with the rocket launcher, of one of my friends setting mines by the good weapons so we couldn't get at them, playing rock paper scissors to see who got to play as Falco... I could go on, but I won't. But I could.

    I'm glad you said this. The controls and the vehicles aren't even the main issue. Even for people that don't mind the controls and think the walker is awesome (including me), it's still a disappointment because everything about this screams "nostalgia cashgrab" and none of it seems like an attempt at a new Star Fox game. For those defending the game's lack of a new story and new characters by calling it a nostalgic throwback, here's the deal : It isn't. The Oikonny boss fight in Assault was a nostalgic throwback (to the Andross boss fight). The Throwback Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2 was a nostalgic throwback (to the same level in Super Mario 64). The various races in Mario Kart 8 are nostalgic throwbacks (to their respective other versions, with amazing modern graphics). Star Fox is just another "reboot" from Nintendo, with no REAL innovation.

      +DarkSonic180 Riiight, except SF64 was not 60 FPS, did not have motion controls, did not have as many all range modes, did not have gyrocopter or walker transform, did not have the exact same roster of enemies and bosses (mix of old and new in SFZ), did not let you pick levels directly (on the original 64 version), did not have co-op mode, Andross fight is completely different, some of the medal challenges in Zero are harder than anything in 64 and objectively speaking the submarine level in 64 is the worse than anything else in the entire SF series, yet people act like 64 is perfect (I love 64 too, I grew up with the snes one and 64) but that Aquus level is just bad with horrible FPS drops, murky graphics and terrible sub controls, and boring boss. That level is worse than anything in SFZ. But yes, we get it, you really really dislike this game and keep commenting about it. How about now you focus on positive aspects of games you like and move on from this, as it's just a game you blatantly hate and you aren't adding any substance to the discussion.

    Miyamoto. Honestly, something needs to change with him. I feel he has way too much control and his ideas have been really bad. He ruined Paper Mario, forces awkward controls in games with no options, and really seems to push a gimmick, just so it has a gimmick with no real purpose. I'm not sure how much control he has over the next Zelda, but any involvement by him just worries me now.

      ZombiedWolf Well, HE is the creator of Zelda so of course he's got to have some saying in the game, but when it comes to directing the project and make the decisions that are going to shape the game into form, Aonuma is the man who's calling the shots. And to be fair, it's not like all the decisions Miyamoto make are bad, like when he decided to make Metroid Prime in first person perspective, or when he designed the concepts for Pikmin and for Super Mario Galaxy. Guy can have some really neat and even brilliant ideas, I just wouldn't let him go too far or too crazy with them.

      Nintendo is very strange in how it handles its first party IP's. They say they always want to do something "new" with new entries into a series, but then do puzzling things like this. They knew people wanted a new Starfox game, but it's as if Miyamoto has finally run out of creativity with some of these titles. There's nothing wrong with a retro style arcade shooter, but as Arlo says that doesn't really shift units nowadays. Zero is just a 64 rehash with a gimmick of motion controls, in a weird way for Nintendo to desperately push the tablet as a key integral part of the experience; even though it's nothing but a hinderance.

    Personally I've just started playing the game and I'm really enjoying it. I'm not having that hard a time with it. Yes it's a bit awkward, but it hasn't been overwhelming to me personally. With that said....NEVER AGAIN NINTENDO! Yes I have been doing okay with it, but that's no guarantee that everyone else will have the same experience and even I would still have a much better time with a more standard control scheme. Zero has the kind of control scheme that might just click right away for some and for others it will take hours before things even start to get okay. Star Fox is supposed to be a fun on rails arcade shooter. You pick it up and just start playing. It shouldn't take an hour, or two hours or three hours, or four hours just to learn how to fly the damn ship. The challenge should come from within the levels themselves, not the controls. Sometimes there really is beauty in simplicity. Star Fox Zero felt like they were innovating for the sake of innovating and that's never a good thing. I just hope the polarizing response this game got doesn't spell death for the series. Star Fox is easily one of my favorite franchises in gaming. I'd hate to see it end.
    Edit: Well I've been playing the game for a bit longer now and I've just made it to Andross. Previously I said the controls were a bit awkward, but not too bad. This was mainly because even though the game pad gave more accurate aiming, the early levels were pretty good at letting you use the game pad at your convenience, allowing you to eyeball most shots in the third person view. Now that I've played a few more levels and have seen how the game outright forces you to use the gamepad for many of the bosses, all I have to say is....WHAT WERE YOU THINKING MIYAMOTO!? Goddamn does this just feel awkward. Don't get me wrong. There's still a lot to like here. The level designs (aesthetically speaking) are some of the best in the series in my opinion and the on rails sections are an absolute blast to play, but whenever a boss shows up and I have to use the gamepad to aim, It's absolutely infuriating. Overall this still isn't my least favorite Star Fox game. That "honor" would go to Command, but I'd put this below Assault and definitely FAR below 64. Seriously Nintendo, never....ever....EVER AGAIN!

    That's what annoys me with Zero, it's a reimagining of 64. they could've made a traditional Star Fox game with a new story, new worlds and new characters. it's been almost 10 years since Command and they seriously couldn't come up with anything new other than slapping on motion controls, making small changes to the story and Pepy being obsessed with the Barrel roll mem?. It's just so lazy, Zero could be the start to a new universe. but they could've done this such a long time ago.

I would've been haapy with having the same phsysics, the same controls, the same gameplay from 64, but bigger, with multyplayer, ONLINE multiplayer, maybe some co-op (as in, 4 players using the whole team on story mode) maybe make the game longe, more routes, different final bosses, etc... When Starfox Adventures (which IMO was pretty good, but with a lackluster ending) has better Arwing controls than this, then, they should do something about it, it felt too forced, sure, everything else in the game is nice, but it feels so empty for a 2016 retail 60 dollar game.

      Making a game open-world doesn't make it a better game. The reason why _Zelda: BotW_ works as an open world game is because the original Zelda was very exploration-based and was about finding ways in the environment to solve situations. It's essentially going back to its roots by going open-world. The reason Mario wouldn't work as an open-world game is because that was never the series' intended direction. It was always about focused platforming on obstacle courses. Likewise, Starfox was never about exploration, it was always an on-rails action shooter with emphasis on enemy placement and boss battles. It was never meant to be like _No Man's Sky_.

    I got used to the controls, but I still agree with a lot of what you're saying. The entire game's design is just bogged down by unnecessary crap. The controls for instance, they work and they're fine once you get used to them, but they add next to nothing to the game that 64 wasn't able to accomplish on its own. Star Fox, After Burner, etc, have all worked fine with only aiming ahead, I see no reason why it needed to be changed.
    Even my favorite game of all time, Kid Icarus Uprising, played it smart with its moving and shooting and made it Space Harrier where you can aim, as well as locking your cursor when your stylus is on the screen. Meaning so long as you're touching the screen, you always know where your shots are going to go, regardless of where Pit is.
    That's not true in SFZ, your reticle is tied to where the Arwing is, much like every other star fox game, and the game commits the sin of letting you aim further away from the arwing than the reticle on the TV will display.
    But above all else, it just didn't need this at all. The top speed section shows that the team was plenty capable of making the arcadey action of 64 again without needing to bolt on all this unnecessary shit. And that's really my biggest beef with everything about this game. It's like any other Nintendo game or modern game nowadays, bogged down by unwanted unnecessary crap that nobody asked for, nobody wanted, and would have been better off without.

      +Randomface gaming I personally had no fun with it, thus the bad score, but others just don't feel the same way. That's the nature of opinions; they're going to differ. If there were a truly objective measure of a game's worth then there would be no reason to have reviews at all.
      Also I did say that without the factors that made me hate the game, it's a mediocre game underneath (not pure trash, just not particularly good). It's perfectly reasonable for those factors to not affect someone, then for them to feel that the mediocre game is actually great, thus resulting in a completely opposite score.

You can actually change the controls to something more comfortable in that game. It's just a simple matter of taking a look at the options. With THIS game you are stuck with the dual screen, motion control centric control scheme whether you like it or not and that's what really makes it bullshit.

      Ranma personally I feel Kid Icarus Uprising is far more Superior game however. Yes the controls are far from perfect but it still had a new well written story with interesting new gameplay mechanics. Star Fox Zero even if it had standard controls wouldn't be much farther away from simply good. If KI:U had standard controls it would be one of my favorite games from Nintendo, the controls are just that one thing keeping me from loving it to the fullest extent, however the controls in SF:Z are not the only things that aren't good.

    Just saying, Miyamoto is the man who is ALL about the gameplay, not the story, not the atmosphere or the characters, to the point where certain franchises *cough* Paper Mario *cough* are void of these elements.But if Miyamoto is responsible for good gameplay, why is there massive controversy over his latest games controls?

      To summarize; The man earned his keep and beyond. He's one of the men most responsible for the success of Nintendo. At the same time, this isn't at the stage in development he is most skilled at. He thrived in Nintendo's time as a desperate start-up trying to take off. He has a rigorous, perfectionist, and creative mind. Every year, though, more stories pop up of him shutting down good ideas and projects that just aren't his style while also failing to catch glaring flaws.
      I remember hearing he wanted to scrap Smash Bros. after 64, that he harshly and brutally gutted Paper Mario: Sticker Star (it's probably a colored report, but it's still a mark against him), and most recently there's this motion controlled, double screened, shitty gimmick thrown in the middle of every other level, Star Fox 64 reboot. I've lost most of my respect for him at this point, I guess.
      I took Paper Mario maybe a little too personally if I'm being fair, but even he seems somewhat remorseful in some interviews for his creative control. He's quoted as shutting down roughly 70% of ideas put forward, also quoted as saying maybe 20% of the people he has to turn down he treats maybe a little too harshly. In that same interview he says some of the ideas he tells people "Stop pursuing that. Move on." actually turned out to be important pieces of fantastic games. He cites the development of Super Mario 64, saying "You know how in Super Mario 64 you can grab Bowser and spin him around by his tail? I actually stopped that. I didn't tell them it was impossible, but I said, 'Don't explore that direction anymore.' I just felt like it was pretty risky. Then something happened to get the program working, and I decided that since there was now a light at the end of the tunnel, we should go with it as one of the main features."
      So he's no slouch. But even he doubts his place and qualifications for management. His ideal development team is a struggling start up barely keeping it together, a dream team of desperadoes who make it perfect through hard work and their own perfect style. He wasn't made to have to tell people "Your ideas and your process for developing them are good/bad" and manage teams. He was made to do it himself.

    One defense I *HATE* is "the lack of lip syncing is a reference to 64"
    SERIOUSLY!?! HOW IS THAT A FUCKING GOOD THING!?
    It's an 8th gen game, the bare minimum is there to be fucking synchronization.
    And if it is a reference then it's just insulting 64, "ho look remember how shit the lip syncing was in 64? Good times"
    Don't get me wrong, lip syncing isn't important but for fucks sake it's not a reference it's laziness which would be scrutinized.

    • @gemmerchant6029
      @gemmerchant6029 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +sonic meerkat no, it's definitely an homage to SNES and 64, not 'laziness'.

      It isn't laziness nor is it a reference to older games. I believe that Miyamoto when he first thought of Starfox had the idea to have the characters to be like puppets because he liked the muppets or something like that, or some other series with puppets. It's definitely done intentionally.

      sonic meerkat of all the things anyone can possibly complain about in StarFox ZERO, lip sync or an intentional lack thereof is probably the most arbitrary.
      it would be like complaining about how quickly or slowly the text scrolls in a game that progresses independently of it while also being fully voiced.

    I WISH this had been just Star Fox 64 again, gameplay-wise. HD graphics, some new cutscenes and dialogue, that's literally all they would need to make a great game, even if it'd be simply a rehash.
    Star Fox 64 was a really fun, fast-paced arcade-style game from beginning to end and I still play it every once in a while all these years later. Star Fox Zero had clunky controls even in the arwing, and the gyrowing was the worst offender in terms of taking fun away from the player. It's stressful to stealthily avoid enemies because you desperately don't want to do all that busy work again if you die.

    As a child I found Starfox on the SNES very impressive but as a teen Starfox Adventures meant everything to me. It was one of the most beautiful, most emotional, most true game experiences I ever had and I couldn't imagine Starfox to be ever a rail shooter again. Since those days I'm desperately waiting for a new Starfox Adventures to come even so it's very unlikely.

    • @franck4727

      Same, I started with star fox adventures which I absolutely love then I've played assault and the old 64 and I couldn't get into them. I feel like star fox would be a successful franchise if it was more like SF adventures. An action adventure game where you explore planets, use guns etc.. Ad have some space battles

    • @wihatmi5510
      @wihatmi5510 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@franck4727 I love Action Adventures with this formula in general. Okami for example was a beautiful game. Sadly Zelda took a big step away from this formula with Breath of the Wild even though I think the Metroidvania-like puzzle-box approach could still work in a (gradually expanding) open world and also Mario or Donkey Kong could benefit from being more like a story-based Action Adventure with NPCs while not going all in as an open world but taking an inbetween approach. The same for Pikmin but I also wish this gameplay for franchises like Starfox that had their origin in completely different genres like F-Zero. Why not exploring Mute City and getting to know captain Falcon as a person more closely.

    • @franck4727
      @franck4727 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wihatmi5510 I both love and hate breath of the wild. First time I feel this way toward a Zelda game. The problem with open world game is that you can't really make a great story since everything is "open" you have to lean on side quests to make the world interesting. In BOTW after the great plateau (which I find great) you have all the tool needed to explore the world which kills the sense of progression you would have if you unlock new abilities that allow you to reach different area.
      I agree with you on f-zero and starfox. Both franchises are science fiction, they have so much potential to make great adventures, stories and locations but they are limited by their genre. F-zero is great racing game but has much more to offer than just racing. Same with starfox. Since Nintendo games doesn't focus on story (they can make good storues but they choose to not do it), franchises that would benefit from it doesn't evolve. They should let a third party studio make starfox and f-zero games

    • @kurokamina8429

      @@franck4727see that's where a MASSIVE miss conception about starfox. StarFox decline only started to happen with Adventures, when they started to do everything but "more of the same" which is something that literally mainline mario and zelda does. Instead of doing more of what people loved about it, they choose to do genre jumping for no reason. It doesn't help that nintendo doesn't stick with a certain 3rd party developer to maintain a creative vision. That's the big one, without a designated team you end up having games with clashing styles or visions. You would also be dealing with quality not being there which does hurt ideas that would work like StarFox Assault.
      But to top it all off is Miyamotos GIMMICK first philosophy for the series. Its very restricting, it mean you have to squeeze an idea out of your rear that isn't good and basically dictates whether or not an entry is made.
      Imagine all of what I just said being applied to Zelda. Zelda would be in the same position that StarFox is currently in.
