It would be an act of dishonesty if I am not admitting that I was slightly provoked by your statement as it sounded slightly disrespectful to Murali whom I see as a role model in the craft of writing. I am sorry about that bro.
I don't believe that just because a piece of art failed to satisfy the every miniscule of the society, it can't be classified as an entertainer or intellectual for that matter.
If that was the case the greatest painters in the history of mankind would have been drained down the sink by now. Most of the masterpieces of those legendary painters are super hard to comprehend and only a few can delve deep into it and derive the pleasure of a connoisseur. Because painting itself is an art that is very less enjoyed when compared to the literature and music. Within that limited spectrum, many paintings (which the common masses consider even now as totally meaningless) are still considered as the greatest works of art.
Same applies for cinema too, as you know a movie is nothing but moving images.
