I was so disappointed with how they handled Bucky apologizing to the old man. They set it up in the first episode and waited until the finale just for a 10 second scene of Bucky being like "I killed your son. I had no choice...." and then we don't even see the old man's response or anything.

oh thank god i knew i wasnt the only one who felt this way. The way he handled the whole situation was so bad. Its as if he apologised just cos he has to and it felt like his whole heart wasnt in it. This scene shouldve been important cos its supposed to be the end of the winter soldiers conflict. The whole scene shouldve been something meaningful and empathetic but all we got was a half assed apology and a half assed made scene.

And to add there was no response from the geezer so we dont even know whether bucky actually had a proper closure besides the part where he just looks at him through the shop window which really is just lazy writing .

You guys are all missing the point of the old man, sam literally laid it out that bucky was forcing onto the old man what bucky wanted for him because its what bucky needed and not what the old man needed. The only thing bucky should have ever done is told the old man who he was and what he did and left his life. Nothing more. The audience should feel that too and get nothing more because its not needed. The old man needed closure not friendship or to understand/accept/interact with the killer of his son. Bucky's acceptance of this was the point of the scene not the old mans reaction
Anyone that wanted to see more are just pushing what bucky already pushed on the old man and missing the point.

I think tfatws on paper has the best justification for a series, but botched it badly. I think if they cut the action part, and just focused on the slice of life part, it could have been great. Maybe have one or two fight scenes, but not in a forced way. Maybe the second time, Bucky has to interfere so Sam doesn’t get killed or something. Also incorporate Bucky more without forcing it. He has been done so dirty recently.

Cosmonaut was confused why John wasn’t the main villain in the first season. The reason why is because John was focused on fighting the freckled girl as his goal to prove himself to be the new Captain America. Now that his goals are met and the freckled girl is gone, we can focus on him more. It’s like when Anakin Skywalker had to fight Count Dooku for two movies straight. The writers are just having John’s turn to the dark side slow and spread across seasons.

I will agree with the villification of mental illness, but like one ep and he's seemingly "recovered" and fighting together with Sam and bucky, I didn't buy that. Like he murdered someone 2 episodes before the finale along with Sam and Bucky fighting to take the shield back in a very emotional fight an ep before the finale. I feel like even during the discharge scene of john he obviously had some real shit to get through because he was very broken after lamar's death. I think him in the last episode going through some therapy or something showing the beginning of him starting to cope with what happened would be far and away better showing the toll of PTSD and how complicated it can be. Him fighting along with Sam and Bucky kinda negated the trauma he caused and experienced through the show.

    • @randomthings1809
      @randomthings1809 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Mental illness? He was not struggling from mental illness. The serum had side affects that made him more of what he was which was crazy because he was so determined to become Captain America. He was not crazy for any mental illness reason. I personally didn’t see him as a villain because we all saw what he went though to get to that crazy state. But it also shows he was able to control himself from going farther down that path when he saved those people in the truck. If there is a part in the show where it shows him suffering from a actual mental illness let me know.

The only thing bucky should have ever done is told the old man who he was and what he did and left his life of him. Nothing more.
The audience should feel that too and get nothing more because its not needed. The old man needed closure not friendship or to understand / accept / interact with the killer of his son.
Bucky's acceptance of this was the point of the scene not the old mans reaction. Anyone that wanted to see more are just pushing what bucky already pushed on the old man.

Cut to Sam's last speech saying that she was a misguided girl fighting for what she believed in. She wanted to make the world a better place for the people that suffered like her. Cut back to senator telling Sam he didn't understand how complicated these decisions to replace people were. And that's even moreso aimed towards her. She had no clue how to make the world better but she felt like she was fighting for something right. Again as Sam said she was simply a misguided girl fighting for what she thought was right. I feel like a lot of people are good or evil, or start good and become evil. We saw Walker start falling into a bad path, but actually recognizing that and realigning himself with what he truly believes he should be fighting for. He didnt just go "Im bad now cuz they killed my friend and I made a very serious mistake".
Similar reason why I hate that Sharon is just evil now? Like she fought for her country for years and just because they wronged her and it hadnt been rectified yet and she was (rightfully) pissed off, she goes from being a good person to becoming an international arms dealer? I feel in general WandaVision and FATWS had opposite trajectories. WandaVision started off great but then episode 4 basically explained everything, meaning that for the next few episodes we were basically just waiting for Vision to discover what we already knew. The only really great later episode I feel was episode 8 which dealt head on with Wanda's grief, before episode 9 turned everything into a generic superhero climax.
By comparison, FATWS started off really slow, to the point that I was honestly about to quit watching after episode 2. But then it really picked up with the introduction of Zemo, Sam's arc towards accepting the Captain America role and John's fall from grace (personally I never felt that he was being set up as a straight up villain, rather the well meaning person who was in way over his head and kind of set up to fail). I also liked the cat and mouse final confrontation, where you weren't sure who was ahead of who, though admittedly I may be biased as I've loved the political espionage tone of the Winger Soldier and Cival War films (really the only two films in the MCEU that dealt with the real world implications of superheroes) so I was glad to see the series follow in their path.

Yeah same. I totally loved this show, flaws and all, and honestly think it was leagues ahead of Wandavision (at least for me). I was really interested to see what they’d do with Walker and was pretty happy that instead of taking the lazy route and saying “oh hes just evil!!” They made him way more conflicted, same with Karli and thats something that feels very real to me

same. i personally loved this series and i liked how they just didnt make john a super bad evil guy because he isn't really a bad guy. he had to be cap america in a time where political correctness is the bar. i like the fact that he redeemed himself somewhat in the last episode instead of just going off the deep end which would be just too predictable...

I agree with all you guys for the most part. I thought it was more creative to make him a flawed good guy than just take the route of bad, which is what I thought they’d do. That lead to me being personally surprised when he shows up to help and had me rooting for him despite his past as cap. I’m very excited to see where hopefully they continue John’s story. As for Karli, I didn’t really care for her. She served her role fine as the villain, but she didn’t really stand out. But that didn’t take too much away from the show cause it had so many interesting storylines going. That’s my only real gripe with the show. Other than that, I loved the show a lot more than wandavision and am excited for the next mcu show 👍🏻

I do like your point about how they never show us someone living in an abandoned home, only for the blipped to return midway. They did that in Wandavision in the hospital, and we saw true panic. Some people who didn't get blipped were still hospitalized and we saw the traumatic scene of a daughter who lost her mother in a split second, over 5 years. That *really* would've connected with the audience on how grim the situation was upon the return to "normalcy".

I can just imagine a scene where Karli's building is suddenly overrun by people and sometime later, a government agent comes and asks them all to leave. Really would have strengthened the flag smasher's cause.

I really wish John Walker would've showed up to the final battle even more insane than before. Like he's gone so far off the deep end that he's just trying to kill the Flag Smashers because, in his mind, they are the reason he lost Battlestar and the Captain America job. I think it would have been interesting to see Sam and Bucky trying to stop the Flag Smashers, while also trying to save them from Walker.
