The name is not pronounced Bron rar. Its Bron yr Aur. It's Welsh. Using English as the basis for letter pronunciation with the following adjustments. All letters are pronounced with equal measure, so the r's are pronounced and heard not blended so like r in rabbit not r in air. The o is same as o in "on", the y is the same as u in up, the A is the same as a in Ahhhhh, u is the same as the ee in bee so Bron yr Aur pronounced like B-r-o-n u-r A-ee-r. Nice playing. Thanks for the lesson 😊
I agree Robert Plant's pronunciation was incorrect, and the above is more correct. I live about 25 miles from the cottage and am a Welsh (Cymraeg) learner. Literally translated from the Welsh Bron-yr-aur mean "breast of gold" but in a place name could also be translated as "hill of gold". Great video, encouraging me to pick up an acoustic for a change.
Bron Y Aur - the most beautiful acoustic guitar song I’ve ever listened to in my 62 years on this planet. I’ve loved playing this song and this tutorial is absolutely wonderful. You’re right, it’s a real bear to play in standard tuning and possible but it doesn’t sound exactly like Jimmy Page’s recording. “The Rain Song” off the “Houses Of The Holy” Album is the most beautiful electric guitar song I’ve ever heard on the 6 string electric guitar. If you’re ever looking for a vocalist that loves singing Led Zeppelin and would round out a good sounding band I’m not far away in NC
Definitely getting better thanks to the chord diagrams 👍 Fun fact. My dad was in a band called the Talismen back in the day. Jimmy played on one of their records as a session musician 😉 Oddly, he was never a zeppelin fan.
You are absolutely right with the thumb picking, I can’t found any tab with this. And the arpegios close to the end are right too. You make my Sunday, thank you very much man! 👍🏻🎸
Yup 1975; 15yo me worked at a car wash right across the street from Discount Records in Menlo Park, CA. I remember the day they filled the display window with all the Physical Graffiti cover art. Fortunately, it was payday.
It took me 3 months to learn to play this. The part at 8:39 gave me fits for weeks. I think the problem is I play a lot by ear and this part especially sounds different played slow than it does played at full speed. But of course to learn it I had to play it slow, so even though I was playing it correctly it never sounded right which drove me nuts. Then one day my fingers just seemed to get a mind of their own and take control and I was like, "Yeah, that's it!"
Good version. I've watched a couple of your videos over the last few years. This is the 3rd version I've looked closely at today, and 'If you've got the 2 main sections and the outro, you've got the song' I'm starting to say. We all polish it well past the Page stage, but is it worth getting that early 70's Jimmy Page/Nick Drake/Stills wooden thing to teach a lesson? My Taylor 910 has been the workhorse for years, but the old all mahogany Takamine is thankfully not as pretty. Good choice between sliding and hammering. We have to standardize it somewhat to reproduce the tune. I like the descending arpeggio feel that skips the 3rd, and goes 5 to 2. The Physical Graffiti version is not as polished as our later cover productions, and that pinched note probably sounds better than some of mine. I pronounce Bron Yarr like a pirate, for what it's worth.
Hi What is the Acoustic effects you are using to recreate the original sound j page as on Physical Graffiti 1975 Album on this Guitat lesson of Bron y Aur. Thanks you have done a super job with this detailed lesson . Stephen 😊
Merry Christmas to you! At some point I realized it just couldn't be standard tuning, heard the low C string, so I knew that had to be part of it. Tried a couple things, but then found someone else on YT about 5 years ago that had the figured out. I don't know of any video out there of Jimmy actually playing it live to confirm it, but the pic on my thumbnail has him playing one of the chords which I'm 99% sure would have to be this song.
Love the channel. I remember years ago asking a welsh friend how the song was pronounced, he pronounced it “Bron he her” without emphasis on the h. All I do know is this is my favourite song to play acoustically for years.
Hi - I’m a Welsh speaker. Unfortunately you’re definitely not pronouncing it correctly. Bron rhymes with Don. Yr is pronounced like the “ur” in Durham. Aur is difficult to relay phonetically but the Au is pronounced the same way as you’d pronounce “I” (i). Then add a prolonged “r” at the end”i-rrr”. I hope that helps. It’s a Welsh word and they were staying in a Welsh cottage called Bron yr Aur at the time. I hope that helps. Great lesson
@@12footchain yes, that’s it. I00% guarantee that’s correct. As a bonus, you might be interested to know that the house where Robert Plant lived, near Monmouth, when he recorded the Principle of Moments album is now in private ownership but it’s possible to stay in the attached coach house on the property via Airbnb, if you’re a fan and ever staying in the uk

thanks for that detail!
@@12footchainthanks. No worries. By the way it's the name of the cottage Zeppelin stayed in Snowdonia North Wales

First tutorial for this song I’ve seen that has the notation which makes it so much easier

Thanks Stephen, it was a plug-in Reverb and flanger that went on via my DAW.
Thank you
The whole trick to this tune is knowing how to Travis pick. If you can do Travis style the song will sort of fall together as you work on it.
how did u figure out the tuning ?
Merry Christmas !
