Very interesting tuning. The "standard" lap steel tuning is C6, but it is C-E-G-A-C-E. That gives an A minor triad on top and a C major triad on the bottom.

Interestingly, a (great) new Andy Partridge interview (with Chanan Hanspal) has just dropped where he cites his D6 tuning for Mermaid Smiled.
