Best acoustic guitar instructor on the internet. Quick question for Angela or the group: I've found using my fourth and fifth fingers for the D and B strings on the first two chords lets me keep the same basic shape for the third chord at 10:59. Hi Angela, I'm 65 and you're the best teacher in my lifetime, the meticulous break down of each section makes learning easy and your joy makes learning a delight. Angela, a sincere thank you for posting this video. Back in high school, I was “three cord Eddie.” Decades later, thank God for TH-cam! I’m now retired and picked up my old Ovation a few months ago… it needed some fretwork… actually cut my first finger on the loose second fret of it, which inspired me to purchase a new and upgraded acoustic guitar. My decision was to order a Martin Grand Performance Cutaway, 16 series (made in Nazareth, Pennsylvania - not Mexico), with electronics. I actually drove from North Carolina to pick it up at the Martin factory in Pennsylvania. While there, I did the factory and museum tours (an incredible full day), then got to play my new Martin through an amp in room they have set up there. What a great time! If any of your viewers ever get to visit Martin Guitars, as soon as you enter the building, the museum is on the left, the gift shop is just after that on the left, the reception desk is in front of you and the factory beyond that to the right. But what’s really GREAT, is they have about a dozen acoustic guitars (one 12 string) on stands just beyond the reception desk - you can walk up to those guitars, pick them up and play any of them… they all have stools in front of them. Just such a beautiful place! When I returned home, I waited less than a week and headed over to Harry’s Guitar Shop in Raleigh - my local Martin dealer who also stocks Fishman amps (what you play and play through in this video). I wound up picking up the Fishman “Loudbox Mini Charge” acoustic amp, which has a built-in battery, so I can play “unplugged”. My goal is to record “The Rain Song“ and have it up on TH-cam sometime this summer so I can share it with friends and family. Thank you so much for all you do for us music lovers! Ed L. Angela, I'd like to sat this. I've seen so many guitar masters and instructors on TH-cam (though I don't come across a single good accordion instructor). This brought such a big smile to my face that I could actually play this. I just started playing again a year ago after taking 20 years off! Thank you for the joy!
Angela, this is so, so refreshing! How wonderful to see a woman giving an awesome guitar lesson on TH-cam. I’d rather watch and learn from you than some guy who thinks he’s God‘s gift to the world. LOL!! You are fantastic. Appreciate you!
Angela - I figured this out with the correct open tuning some years ago, but I found this lesson and it was a good refresher. You are a natural born teacher. I can’t imagine what a challenge this is to teach to students you cannot see, but you are a natural. You did this two years ago. I hope your musical journey is fulfilling. You would/will be an amazing mom.
So, every now and then, I just surf thru TH-cam. Today, I was watching some Zep videos and came across yours. First, like you, the Rain Song is my absolute favorite LZ song. It just calms me in a way that only great music can. Second, the enjoyment of this song and the desire to see if I could play it is why I bought my first guitar. With practice, I got more and more of it down. Anyway, I enjoyed your video and it inspired me to pull the old Martin out of the case and play a little. Thank you.
Angela, that's what I love about the old days....stereo separation on the tracks....so much easier then to zero in on the acoustic in one speaker, plus analog being a warmer sound as well with each track....loved Pages finesse with sound details too! God bless, you do a lot of people a great service with this one pretty lady! 👠
I don’t understand why these videos don’t have more views… thank you Angela for taking the time to do these. I am actually playing songs that I thought were impossible to play, known only to the guitar gods and not for us mere mortals.
Angela, I am 58 years old, and learning to play guitar along with my son, I’ve been frustrated trying to learn from other people online, you by far are the best teacher I’ve seen, I built a Les Paul kit, along with my son, and painted it, this tutorial is the first Zeppelin song I am learning, Page was my all-time hero growing up lol. I’ve gone from just knowing chords, to actually not totally destroying the rain song intro because of you! Thank you for what you do, I am enjoying learning from your lessons.
I cannot believe I lucked onto this absolutely awesome lesson. The Rain Song is one of Zeps greatest songs, and you play it and teach it beautifully. Thank you so much! ❤️❤️
I bought Houses of the Holy in 1973 when I was at University in the UK. At the age of 68, I can now play my favourite track on my lovely Epiphone guitar, which I bought second hand in the same year. Thanks for such a brilliant lesson.
I Wish I'd discovered your lessons years ago. I just learned The Rain Song and I'm so excited to have that one in my repertoire, I can't even stop to put the guitar down. My son said he couldn't find any other song that used that open tuning. One of my acoustic guitars will be tuned to Rain Song tuning from now on. Thank you.
Just found your channel I’m 65 and have recently come back to the guitar after a 35 year gap and although I play classical guitar I like rock and jazz music the rain song has always been my favourite Zeppelin song. Kind Regards to you. Conor
This song has also brought me to tears since I was a young teenager! Still does and I'm a 58 year old codger! I'm not a Mozart fan but this music really touches me.
Just bought my dream guitar a few days ago. Took me 5 years of saving to finally be able to afford it. A Boucher BG-152 GMI. This is the first song, my favorite Zepplin song, I'm gonna learn on it.
Oh Angela, I can’t believe I’ve managed to get through all this! Not in a millions year’s would I have thought I could’ve ever been able to play such a beautiful song and it’s all down to your amazing teaching. Yes, I’ve rewound the video a thousand times and practiced and practiced, and copied your every step, but I’ve done it! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You’ve made an older lady very happy xx 🥰 xx
I stumbled upon your Rain Song tutorial and dug right into it. What a nostalgic and beautiful song. It brings me back to my late teens early twenties where the formula was Rain Song + Girlfriend + bottle wine + fireplace = a romantic night. Your teaching style is superb. Thank you
You’re probably the best guitar teacher I’ve encountered on YT so far & you’re intuitive and empathetic. I feel like I could play this song easily if I had longer fingers, but happy made it through the 1st few chords! You’re gem Ms. Petrilli!
Angela you have special gift for community, “how” you teach, and breaking down the significance of this classic song. Your consistency in style, technique and true helpfulness keeps me engaged and growing with each of your ‘Riff Rundowns’ that I commit to. I can so relate to the magic and feeling of this masterpiece. Not only the harmonious brightness of the Gsus tuning, but by the emotional vibe that actually touched my soul when playing the first two chords (in the opening). Tears immediately surfaced. The up-strum… WOW, I got lost in the lesson and was moved! Thank you for all you do. You are an amazing teacher. You are humble and bring new energy to your tribe of students to make learning a joy (even through the wrist cracks). 😂
I started learning this in standard tuning many years ago - many years before the internet even. I played it pretty much how Page played it live at MSG '73. Seeing the open tuning for the first time on YT was such a breath of fresh air. So many open string strums makes the playing resonate so much. Now I have a cheap and nasty acoustic permanently tuned to this song. As a certified and permanent member of the "intermediate" species of guitar player, it is probably the only thing I will ever be able to play that makes people go Wow! (they don't know) about the tuning and..... I don't tell them🤥
After coming off of a 30 year hiatus of guitar playing and trying to revive my guitar skills, I came across your instruction of the Rain Song. Of the few, youtube teachers and there are only a few, who have finesse, detail, personality to taking video guitar lessons to the upper most level, you're an outlier of all and stand the tallest of all as others have mentioned. What I like most of all you're an LZ and Martin aficionado like myself and lover of old guitars. Thanks again! D-28 owner.
I just listened to the Led Zep version.. then came back here to listen to you play it Angela... three times! I like your rendition better! I just discovered you and LOVE your lessons! I am barely, maybe almost, not quite "intermediate" and am now getting farther, faster, than I have in years of trying. Learning Ten Years Gone right now and will be coming back to this lesson soon. Thank you so much! .. Mike in Dallas Tx.
Angela, I have been following lessons for this song on youtube. Several great instructors but then I found your lesson. After many years of being a spectator I was finally impressed enough to subscribe to my first person. You.
Angela Petrilli is like picking up that perfect guitar of the rack ,when it comes to teaching, Forever Grateful, If everyone one the Tube taught like she does. IT WOULD SPARK A NEW ECONOMY. ✌💛😁
Dear Angela, I've been playing a little over a year now. I've always wanted a song to play that I can just groove on and get lost in the music and the beauty of the notes. As I get deeper into the Rain Song, it's shaping up to be the one. I finally have it memorized and now I'm beginning to incorporate the feeling. It's so beautiful. I love your song selection and generous style in teaching. Always, 'just one more' and then you give another play through. You keep the pressure low, 'take your time, remember, you can't play fast, what you can't play slow'. I love your new mantra, ' embrace and envelop the sustain!' 😂 Your attitude and happy personality make it a real pleasure to spend an hour with you, learning great songs and then having the opportunity to go back and study the recording in detail. Thank you. I love your lessons and share your channel every opportunity I get.💖👼🙏
Angela , if I was to put words into details on how you teach, it would overflow the table so to sum it all up. You shine! You are an amazing teacher and person.
I learned how to play this song a favorite song and then got into fingerpricking blues and stop playing it for a short time and forgot much of it. Well you just inspired me to learn it again. I'm 61 with CRS. Can't Remember Shatner 😊😊😊😊 Baby I'm Gonna Leave You, this song I like all their music. Thank you
I’ve been trying to learn guitar since I’m 13, now 62, I started again during Covid and I’ve been making progress. I love Zep and the rain song Is one of my favorite songs- to think after a week of watching your video a million times I can do this is simply unbelievable. I’m in awe of you and your style. If I could actually have you teaching me, I don’t think I’d ever leave the house again. Just simply wow ❤
Love this. When building my next list of songs to learn, I hadn’t considered The Rain Song. It’s now on the list. Favorite Zep Songs: (1) Over the Hills and Far Away (2) What is and What Should Never Be (3) Kashmir (4) Going to California
Also my favorite Led Zeppelin song. I had a vhs copy of the song remains the same in my younger years, and I listened to the rain song over n over.. no quarter would have to be my second favorite.
I've been wanting to learn how to play this song forever. I have listened to others teach this, but to my ears, this is the closest I've heard. Thank You
Angela i want to thank you and tell you i found you tonight on u tube for the first time 10/24 21 and ended up checking out several of your videos its now 4:14 am can't believe its after 4...fell in love with your teaching technique and will be learning so much from you. Thank you so much. I also love open tuning. The rain song is the most beautifully written song and you nailed it. Last but not least. You certainly are beautiful. Thanks so much, Richard
1:08am…definitely my favorite Led Zep song to listen to and absolutely my favorite Zep song to play. I haven’t played in quite a while, I am really enjoying this. I look forward to hearing you play the outro…it’s pure brilliance, isn’t it?
It's now the end of January. I had made no "New Years Resolutions", nor had I set any goals for this year.... until now. I'm going to learn this song by the end of the year. That's taking quite a bite, at the moment, I'm still stumbling my way through "American Pie", but this is a beautiful, relaxed piece. I think I can do this. 👍👍👍😏😏😏
I can tell by watching your face while your playing, you get into that zone wear you and the guitar are one. This too is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs. At the end I almost broke down in tears. Thank you.
This is the best rain song lesson on the entire Web. Your picking techniques are mandatory for the right sound of this song! I love how you pick songs that are so musical!
Wow thank you so much I was had to work today and I missed it but I'm home now and I'm watching it and I've been waiting and waiting for somebody to do this the right way what you have shown me thank you very very much take care stay safe
What an outstanding tutorial! You have a gift for teaching! I first heard this song when “The Song Remains The Same” movie came out, but only recently have I fully appreciated how beautiful it truly is. It’s my favorite Led Zeppelin song too. Your video has given me hope and inspiration that not only will I be able to play this song, but play it correctly! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this for others! 😎👍🎸
SW Ozarks - the rain song's my fav. Have learned so much from your lessons. You're a great communicator/ instructor. You obviously have such a great time playing and doing these that you're a joy to play along with. Thanks for all the tunes.
I want to sincerely thank you for this amazing lesson Angela. I subscribed to your channel immediately upon stumbling on it. I have been in a very bad way lately and haven't picked up my guitar in months. I was very inspired by this lesson and it made me feel really good about myself which is something I haven't felt in awhile. I picked up the song pretty quickly thanks to your amazing technique of teaching. Maybe it was divine intervention; Idk. I just wanted to sincerely thank you and let you know that you made a real difference in my life. That's the power of music I suppose which comes through angels like yourself. God bless you and thanks again.
I hope so badly you read the comments after 7 months. Sincere gratitude for this video. Probably not general consensus but IMHO my favorite of all Pages pieces. You couldn’t have taught this in person any better than you did on this video. I will watch this video until I can play this without the video. Your patience is amazing and you don’t rush through it. Finally, I have no clue how but I just found your channel and I will be watching many more. One last thing… I love that you play the song in the beginning. So many instructors online fail to do this. By hearing the song in its entirety to start the video it puts the viewer in the right frame of reference. Nothing more enjoyable (to me) than playing in various tunings. Again, thank you so much!
Thank you so much for those kind words! I am thrilled to hear this lesson helped you learn this song. Keep at it! Wishing you success on your musical journey!
Beautifully played Angela! The expression & love that you played the Rain Song with was just lovely! My favorite Song has to be Achilles Last Stand! Jimmy Pages guitar work on that track with all guitars on top of each other is incredible! Ps. I play the Rain Song every day! It’s a favorite of mine! ✌️🤘
Great band, great song, l met them all and hung out with Jimmy Page's guitar tech in Montreal 77' tour. Was given John Bonhams drum sticks and Robert plants harmonica. Cool times. 😎
Love this lesson. I've only been playing about 8 months now, and stumbled on to you. Been working on the Rain Song about 3 weeks now. Your teaching skill is the best that I have found. My family is amazed when they see me playing this song. When might you be doing Pt. 2 of the lesson. Thank you so much.
This is absolutely my favorite Zep song. It has so many memories attached to it, and some are painful. I don't listen to it much because of the flood of tears that come with it...like just watching your intro.
I play this song for 30 years and I didn't even know there was an open tuning... For the 2 first chords, basic G and GM7 works fine too even though it's much profound with open tuning.
Fantastic. I've also learned this one in standard which doesn't quite sound complete but gets pretty close and is pretty fun to play in standard with strange chord shapes. But I love hearing this the way it's supposed to be played. Easily Page's most beautiful song for guitar.
I learned this song a long time ago. The chord shapes and changes are pretty basic with an open tuning but it's all in the "way" it is played. You do an excellent job in evoking the emotions of optimism and loss contained in the lyrics.
You are a very cool chic! I'm diggin this lesson. I used to know the first part of this piece. I had a bad fall in 04 and lost most of the feeling in my left hand. Crushed my soul for years. Just when the lights started going on after years of stumbling around in the dark, putting attention and focus on areas too far ahead or getting frustrated and confused being bombarded with trying to understand spelling out relative chords and keys, where half steps fall. All great things to learn but just didn't feel like the right time at the level I was at. Didn't feel like I had reached a level where I could comprehend that info at that time. My uncle was very accomplished, loved playing weird diminished chords and stuff and he would go off on these lessons to a point where I'd become confused, frustrated and felt like a dumb bastard so I'd put it down for day's. Eventually went out on my own and picking up little things along the way I started to get a better understanding and like most guitar people reached a point that felt like lights began to pop on in areas and inspiration began to drive me further and then I fell 40 feet and got banged up pretty badly. Basically accepted my injuries were such that I had no choice but to throw in the towel. Over the years I have picked up my acoustic which was the only one I held on to. Had many nice models but brought me nothing but depression so I got rid of all of them. Began to realize I could still play a little. I can be obsessive and still get frustrated with limitations but the satisfaction of being able to play even if I can't sound like I did 20 years ago brings a kind of joy. I'll never gig or play with a band but I can entertain myself. Anyway, sorry to Ramble On. Pun intended there, l found you to have a very approachable teaching technique. Friendly, warm and inviting. You also remind me of someone familiar and I can't quite put my finger on it. No pun intended. You definitely have a gift and I've subscribed and will be checking out more content. Very Impressed.

Ewww!
Awesome lesson, you explain the technique very very well. thank you.
I don’t understand why these videos don’t have more views… thank you Angela for taking the time to do these. I am actually playing songs that I thought were impossible to play, known only to the guitar gods and not for us mere mortals.
It is my pleasure! I am so grateful that this lesson has helped you along! =)
Thanks for the kind words!
They’re all great, dude. It’s difficult to have a “favorite”
@@sergedenovo2389 blah blah blahhhh
Awesome song! Really challenges my norm, and I love it!! Great lesson Angela, you're an awesome teacher! Thank you!
Aww thanks for the kind words, Matt! Sending you success on learning this one! I also did a Part 2 with the chorus and outro!
@@AngelaPetrilliMusic Yes, thanks, I saw that. I'll get to that next. 👍
This is the one I have been waiting for! Such a groovy song for acoustic guitar.
Love groovy ❣❣
Thank you
My 17yrold son recently floored me by playing this.....what an awesome tune.....
D-28 owner.
Welcome back to playing!!! I am thrilled my lessons are helping you! Much success on your musical journey!
I figured out the basics in standard tuning for fun, but nothing like the complete details like this. Very nicely done!
Thanks so much!
I just found you..I am not learning to play guitar but I really enjoyed your video. I am a fan of Led Zeppelin. Thanks for your pleasant personality.
Angela, I have been following lessons for this song on youtube. Several great instructors but then I found your lesson. After many years of being a spectator I was finally impressed enough to subscribe to my first person. You.
Angela Petrilli is like picking up that perfect guitar of the rack ,when it comes to teaching, Forever Grateful,
If everyone one the Tube taught like she does.
Thank you. I love your lessons and share your channel every opportunity I get.💖👼🙏
Kudos to you sir for getting in to this after only one year of playing.
Can't Remember Shatner 😊😊😊😊
Baby I'm Gonna Leave You, this song I like all their music.
Thank you
you are a terrific teacher and you have a beautiful smile.
Favorite Zep Songs:
(1) Over the Hills and Far Away (2) What is and What Should Never Be (3) Kashmir (4) Going to California
WOW! That was a heartfelt performance! The few seconds of choked emotion at the end was killer. Beautiful. Thanks for the lesson.
Nearly brought tears to my eyes listening to you play this song from my teenage years
Yes, I would say that this is ONE of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs. -The other being, Bron-Yr-Aur.
She plays it like a meditation, so wonderfall, no words needed
Very well Said, Just Beautiful to watch and listen to her play this song❤
She is not meditating At all... she has to open the eye at every problem coming...
Whenever she has time she acts as meditating
Well worded.
Also my favorite Led Zeppelin song. I had a vhs copy of the song remains the same in my younger years, and I listened to the rain song over n over.. no quarter would have to be my second favorite.
Love LZ favourite song When the Levy Brakes. 🇳🇿❤ur work.
I know this is a year old but I loved it so much I instantly subscribed
It's now the end of January. I had made no "New Years Resolutions", nor had I set any goals for this year.... until now. I'm going to learn this song by the end of the year. That's taking quite a bite, at the moment, I'm still stumbling my way through "American Pie", but this is a beautiful, relaxed piece. I think I can do this. 👍👍👍😏😏😏
Sometimes I just want to hear you play the music you know and love so well! The rain song is awesome! Thank you!
I can tell by watching your face while your playing, you get into that zone wear you and the guitar are one. This too is one of my favorite Zeppelin songs. At the end I almost broke down in tears. Thank you.
The best lesson I never see. Thank you for!!
This is the best rain song lesson on the entire Web. Your picking techniques are mandatory for the right sound of this song!
I love how you pick songs that are so musical!
Thank you James!
I'm just blown away that someone can come up with such a beautiful song. I love you Jimmy.
not to mention the lyrics
Wow thank you so much I was had to work today and I missed it but I'm home now and I'm watching it and I've been waiting and waiting for somebody to do this the right way what you have shown me thank you very very much take care stay safe
Your an awesome teacher.
😎👍🎸
I subscribed!
Beautifully played, Angela. You always look like you enjoy the tune you're playing sooooo much. Inspirational.
Thanks David!
SW Ozarks - the rain song's my fav. Have learned so much from your lessons. You're a great communicator/ instructor. You obviously have such a great time playing and doing these that you're a joy to play along with. Thanks for all the tunes.
The complexity and feel is so much more enjoying and fulfilling that country music!
I dig your teaching method, thks
Hi Angela,
I absolutely love your performance of this Zepplin classic, well done. Oh and good instruction as well.
Thanks,
Paul
Great band, great song, l met them all and hung out with Jimmy Page's guitar tech in Montreal 77' tour. Was given John Bonhams drum sticks and Robert plants harmonica. Cool times. 😎
I play this one on a 12 string, I love this song too!!
I’ve seen so many try to demonstrate this song but you are one of the few who does it properly. Subscribed.
This is absolutely my favorite Zep song. It has so many memories attached to it, and some are painful. I don't listen to it much because of the flood of tears that come with it...like just watching your intro.
I loved this so much! I’ve been practicing for a week , and I’ve got it down. Thank you! I can’t wait for pt 2
This has gotten me out of endless practice to playing songs! Never ever thought I could make these sounds. Thank you thank you
Thank you so much Angela..this was a amazing lesson to a beautiful song..🙏
This is absolutely amazing. This is how I’ve learned to play guitar from TH-cam. Thanks for the lesson you make it so easy to follow.
I learned this song a long time ago. The chord shapes and changes are pretty basic with an open tuning but it's all in the "way" it is played. You do an excellent job in evoking the emotions of optimism and loss contained in the lyrics.
Girl, you kill that! I caught myself swaying left to right just like the original version. Great Job!
Wow, Angela, you really bring out magic and mystery of this song. It’s enchanting.
I'm 65 in idaho wanting to learn my favorite Zepplin song thank you
Great song !! My favorite LZ tune. Shows the genius of Jimmy Page Guitar work, just one of many though. Thanks for the great lesson !!!
Angela, a big thank you from Brazil, I’m here to say that you made my dream possible. Since i listened the version from David Barrettrio, i wonder to learn some day this incredible song, and YOU made it so possible. Keep up with the good work, girl!!!
Angela......what a beautiful song and you did a bang up job.....excellent......keep up the good work.......from Toledo Ohio loving your songs......
This is wonderful, Angela. Thank you for this gift 🫶🏻
My favorite zeppelin song from houses of the holy LP track 3 lol I love watching people playing this and tuning to it plus we have something in common our favorite Zeppelin tune
Angela, simply put, I love your lessons and your personality!
Finally caught you live! Can’t wait, open tuning in from Memphis Tn.
