My first concert, at 15 years old, in 1975. How lucky could a kid get to be exposed to the brilliance of these guys. Saw Rick's version of Supertramp and Roger a couple times, and although great, never the same. Breaks my heart that Rick and Roger couldn't put their differences aside. What a huge loss for the rest of us.
Seems like greatness sadly pushes so many artists to wanting more individualist freedom and ability to express their ideas leading to bands breaking up. The parts often do end up summing to be greater than the prior band, but something special is lost in the change that will never come again. We can also wonder what else Roger would have done had he not fallen 10' out of that loft onto concrete crushing both wrists and taking him out for a decade.
I love this song. He's so full of energy somehow and yet so sad. Supertramp were one of the best bands. There will probably never be such talented musicians again.
When I saw Supertramp in 77 the train ride was such a blast.. I was 8th row dead center and I was inside that train.. I will never forget it.. it was one of the best concert experiences of all concerts I have been to.. and I have seen most all of them starting with Wings over America in 76!!.. Thanks for the memory of going back with this high quality video.. Amazing the quality of this video from way back then.. Cheers! (footnote.. the train ride in real life was high quality.. though it may not be noticeable in this video, it was crystal clear on the screen in concert...)
I saw them in 1980 and my experience was the same. Some 40 years later and it still gives me chills. Supertramp is in my top 3 all time favorite bands!
@@soguatasgohtas wow! how awesome is that.. Indeed, that train ride.. in real life, on screen, at that concert was most excellent and I will never never forget how thrilling it was to be a part of it. I even remember the conductor bouncing around after all these years.. Rudy's on a train to nowhere!.. Who knew Rudy would be driving his train all these years later in my minds eye.. He really did go somewhere it seems..
@Colin Barnes indeed Colin... so true indeed... I was not notified of these replies.. sorry for the late reply.. Yes - we are part of Rudys train ride to nowhere thanks to Supertramp .,,, how amazing it lasted all these years. It shows how great that song is, how excellent their music was/is and the power of sound and vision..
Such an amazing concert experience. The entire crowd is on that train ride and the music keeps accelerating. When it pulled into the station and stopped the entire crowd leaned forward as if we were stopping too. That's why that applause is so strong at that moment. It was one of those few, incredibly memorable concert experiences.
The amazing thing about this concert was the audience. Rudy is an awesome song. But, live, it was more than awesome. The entire audience was on that train and when it pulled into the station and suddenly stopped, the entire crowd leaned forward as if they were velocitized in an actual train. That's the cheering you hear just before the end of the song.
One of the best songs ever. They remain truly classic songs and remind me of a wonderful time in my life. I saw them twice live in the Netherlands together with my girlfriend who unfortunately passed away 1 month ago. The music is always good and still speaks to me every day. For my one of the great classical albums with a beautiful atmosphere and perfectly recorded
I was going to declare this the best live video of "Rudy" ever, then the view switched from the live performance video to their stock video footage of railroad track as seen in the music video, and I missed all that live instrumental action. I REALLY wanted to see them play the fast paced portion more than ever, but got nada. AWESOME music and AWESOME performing, if only I could have seen it all.
I remember back in 90s when I was almost 7/8 years old, I was stealing the tape from the desk or my father and listening it at the minimal volume because I didn’t want him to know I was loving supertramp and admit music of 70s was highly better. And I still love supertramp like the first day
To this day this is the most memorable songs I ever saw done live!! That line about all good things coming too late made me what to change my life so that I didnt have that compliant at the end of it!!
Es magnifico escuchar y ver a este supergrupo, sus temas son grandiosos, diferentes, lastima que los egos o proyectos personales predominen provocando la ruptura, pero afortunadamente podemos disfrutar de su legado como grupo.
If I had the chance to see any bands I missed like Zep at the MLG or Floyd at Nassau Coliseum or SUPERTRAMP Again, Supertramp would win hands down. I caught well over 200 Live Acts but None other than Genesis put on an awesome show. Toronto CNE Stadium SUPERTRAMP an absolutely breath taking experience. FRONT STAGE FLOORS not 2 rows in front of me....😎

Absolutely. I saw them in Montreal in 1979 when I was 16. It was a huge outdoor concert.
This is a masterpiece! I’ve always loved this song!

same thing they said after the Beatles, yet Supertramp came about. Don't dismiss God's power to keep up
Lots of em. It's just a question of getting the right ones together.
No way KURT cobain was the last real Rock star ...these rock Gods 🙏 will never be again 😢
This song makes me nostalgic, to me it’s about missed opportunities, indecision, fear of risk taking.
Well said, took the words that I hadn't formulated right out my mind.
Every time I pass Swindon (Ricks home town) on the motorway I think of Rick and this song!👍
Proud Swindonian here!!
😢
🎶 The piano segments are truly genius 🎶
What a band! Even now, after all these years, "PARIS" the live album is still my favourite of all time.
Paris is up there in my top 5 LIVE albums

I saw the Video 1983 in Basel Switzerland. I was inside the Train too. Great! And since 1989 I am a Train driver. Really.

That's exactly what happened in Edmonton when I saw them there, I almost fell over!! lol
I feel so lucky because I got to see this concert played in Toronto Canada at the CNE, it was unbelievable. I was 19.
Best tune on the album and Ricks piano is just SO lovely! Man Rick plays so well for someone who's completely self taught! Just Wow!
Underrated song
it's probably my favorite, along with Crime of the Century!
agree, heard it on sirius deep tracks 1x.
@@rhondawebb7985 My favorites too, alongside Fool's Overture. Hearing one of those three leads always eventually to listening to the two others 😉
Paris is one of my two top live albums, together with Deep Purple's Made In Japan.

Best live album ever.
My absolute favorite song on my favorite Supertramp album. So brilliant 💕
Amazing performance of an amazing song.
What an unbelievable performance of a great song. Such gifted musicians. Roger Hogson makes the guitar look easy. Talk about slowhand.

Yea, some of the train would have been fine, but it was too long and covered up great live instrumental action.
