- Henry McKenna was voted "Best In Show" at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition back in 2019. Ever since then, the price has inflated. Let's find out if this is still something I'd consider to be an amazing whiskey and learn a bit about it's history.

Payed $65 for a bottle yesterday. Honestly, I couldn't resist . It's my first bottle,and will be my first pour. Might open the bottle on New year's eve!
The funny thing is I currently have very little interest in bourbon (because I am focused on studying Scotch) but your thumbnail was so well done I HAD to watch the video,

One of my favorite bottles that I used to find this all the time around $40-45 which it is worth 100%. Now stores are trying to sell it at a secondary price of $60-75 which I think is a lot compared to some other bottles out there and with the value I would lean to the other bottles. If I see it under $60 its an automatic buy.
This is always readily available near me in central California. A grocer sells it for $60 and a spirit specialist sells it $70. I still haven't bought one as I heard it used to be a $30 bottle and I'm just miffed by that knowledge. Also, I heard these have a notable batch variation to their quality.
It was 34.95 when I started buying it, then low 40s after it won an award. It disappeared entirely after a second award, then came back at 60. I dunno about 60 but I will say the market has caught up to that price a bit in the last couple of years.
In 2019 it was readily available here in Texas for $28, but none in recent years. I bought several different bottles in early 2019, one was barrel #4960 barreled on 4-07-08. Recall that the 2019 whiskey of the year was barrel #4976 barreled on 4-07-08. So I have one that likely is very similar to the winner. I plan to open it some day! It is a fine whiskey.
I'm in Pasadena Texas. In two years of bourbon collecting, I've only seen this bottle once. It went for 80 bucks (August 2023). It was painful, but I ended up getting it just for the fact that I've never seen it before in the two years I've been on the lookout. It's very good, but would I buy it again? Sure, but not at that price. 50 would be my max.

I live in Missouri and discovered this brand at Costco today for $55. Because I share the name, I wanted to buy the 2 bottles they had in stock, but I was limited to only 1. I found more at a nearby store for $69 a bottle.
I think that SRP is outdated. Maybe they never officially updated it publicly. But I don't even think stores in NY buy it for less than 40 bucks from the wholesaler. It's routinely $60 near me and it does start to sit on the shelf. I know people say it's more than it used to be blah blah blah, but when people sell like 4-7 year old MGP for more than that, a 10yr 50% ABV bourbon at $60 is a strong buy now a days.
How much does the charcoal filtering contribute to the taste in your opinion. Love your explanations.
I bought a bottle of this at Costco here in Arizona last night. Opened it up after I got home and enjoyed it very much.
$60 in Oregon. Hard to find and no tax. I love it and will buy it every time I see it. Elijah Craig BP is $70 here and I have only heard good things. Evan Williams BIB is a mixer. The McKenna 10 experience is NOTHING like EW BIB. If you are experienced you may pick up similar notes, but dont rob yourself. This is a $60 whiskey and should be compared to Woodford Double Oaked, Old Forester 1920 and I like it better than Eagle Rare. F*** with it.
It’s $69.99 at Total Wine, I passed on that one, purchased the Larceny B523 barrel proof instead for the same price. I’m sure Henry McKenna is
great but for $70 there better options.🥃
Thanks Bill, important to note it's a single barrel and they can vary quite a bit (from what I've read/heard). Which one was this? Starts at $60 in NY and can get silly in some stores. Cheers!

I'm pretty sure they raised the MSRP to $60. At least the state regulated stores I've been to sell it for that...if it ever shows up.
I just passed up two bottles at $59.99 each but the last bottle I purchased was $53. I find Henry McKenna to be hit and miss and although I like it, $60 is my price limit.
Paid 56$ at Costco 11/10/2023, I bought 4 bottles 😂 my favorite whisky period, extremely delicious caramel, vanilla, and maple syrup over pancakes, and dark chocolate cherry finish. 😋 😋 😋
I had been looking for this since i started my journey and finally came across it in Billerica for $70. Thought it was great but not worth the price tag. Found it in tewksbury for $60 and grabbed it again but still wasnt happy with the price. Id stock it all day for $40-50.
Id like to make a suggestion of Taffer's Brown Butter Bourbon. Total wine has it for $32. My buddy got it for me for my bachelor party and we finished the bottle. So tasty. A little sweet but great with an ice cube or 2.

Here in Minnesota it goes for $60-$70 and is easy to find. A year ago it was $40 and flew off the shelf.
New York it's hard to find anywhere from 55-100. Somewhere in the middle of these prices is where I do see it when available.
I live in Indiana and haven't seen it in a store in a few years. Last time I saw it it was around $45 I believe.
I was at Heaven Hill today (5/21/23) and bought a bottle for $69.99. There were about a dozen bottles behind the counter that were sold within the hour of my tasting experience.
Thats insane that they mark it up so high at the distillery... shameful. Hopefully you enjoy it! How was the tour?
I agree $70 was a bit much to pay for a bottle at the distillery. I looked for a current MSRP but couldn’t find it. I think the $35 was accurate in 2016 but is likely a little more today. So I’ll enjoy the bottle I have but not stock another.
We only did a tasting tour. It was fun mostly because the presenter, Herb, was very friendly and personable. Tasting focused on Larceny and Elijah Craig
State minimum here in Michigan is $59.99. I grabbed a bottle at that a year or two ago. It was decent juice, but definitely wouldn't pay more than that or go out of my way for it.
It’s gonna be harder to find since it’s been discontinued as well. It’s a great bourbon, and the price will soon rise rather quickly as supply is low
Bill, good review with discussion and alternatives. BUT my experience has been lots of variation so I pass up even at 40 to 50. Much prefer ET BiB at about 25 for 1 liter.
I've never seen it here in Australia. I did find it sold out on a specialist whisky seller site for AUD $220 (~ USD $145), so based on the other comments, it definitely isn't worth that price.
I'll stick with the brands sold here in stores.

In wyoming a one certain liquor store has it all the time. $78 and thats probably why
MSRP in my state on the west coast is $59.99
If enough money was spent in the liquor store, then you would able to pick from the allocated list that Henry McKenna is on. That price would be $58.45 plus tax.
In North Carolina I see it about every other month and goes for $60 after tax
I bought this several years ago in Mississippi for around $30. About a year later, the price was around $...50 or so. Was kind of hard to pay $50 when it was selling for $30. Now I don't see it.
Picked up 3 bottles in MD, $59 ea.

I want to know where ECBP is only $50-55. It's $70-75 pretty much everywhere on the west coast. Haven't seen Henry McKenna under $50 since about 2019/2020. Pretty sure Heaven Hill has upped the msrp on those in the last couple years.
Yeah ECBP is like easily $70-75+ anytime I see it. And some stores still try to gouge it for $100+ sadly

You forgot to mention that it’s a single barrel and not a batched product. People will get widely different taste profiles from these.
I’ve had some good ones, but also a lot of crap ones.

$60 here in Ohio. It looks somewhat uncommon, like I'd have to make a 30 minute trip to get it. Not in my local stores.

dude.. that is a allocated or rare drops by our ABC.. good luck finding it at all, much less at MSRP 60$.. you will pay 200$ or more for it in any other place.. that is also a single barrel..

Lol - in my travels I've seen this as high as $100 for a bottle, which is asinine. In my area NC ABC has this available like water $54.95. The only way it ever won whiskey of the year was because they picked a honey barrel for the competition, extremely meh whiskey.

Not sure what's up with all the negative comments I see on HM 10....there are a lot of garbage, over- hyped bourbon out there for over $60. I pay $53 and would pay $70. EC Barrel Proof may retail at $55 but stores now have jacked the price.

60 bucks is relatively inexpensive for a 10 year age statement in 2023. A whole lot of young craft not good bourbons out there for more money.

MSRP isnt $30 anymore and hasn't been for years now. HH raised the MSRP twice already since its $30 price point.
I can't find any evidence of that. I see the practical price raised, but their website still suggests 30 dollars.
